Combo Master - Batman - x677 - World Record [PS4] | Batman: Arkham Knight

These were some of my best splits rolled into one so it’s about as fast as I can go. I’ve been faster at 1 minute (x420) and I did x281 in the final minute this run so theoretically x700 is possible but I ain’t about that life lol.

Combo Master is a timed combat challenge with a 2-minute timer that starts when you reach a combo of x200. It’s the first challenge you can unlock in BAK and showcases the new speed game that was introduced in Knight. (Basically, Batman gains speed as you successfully chain together critical strikes and loses speed if you make a mistake. If you’re not familiar with this mechanic I go over it in detail in my Azrael’s Atonement strategy guide. It’s in the video description here - • Azrael's Atonement - A... ).
Before I talk about some of my strategies for the challenge, I’ll list the enemy spawns so you know what to expect:
x40 - 2 knives
x50 - 2 ninja
x60 - 2 bats
x70 - 1 armored brute (no weapon)
x80 - 1 shield
x90 - 1 medic
x100 - 1 baton
x110 - 2 ninja
x120 - 1 gun
x130 - 1 armored brute (with shield)
x140 - 1 shield / 1 baton / or 2 guns
x150 - 1 medic
x160 - 1 shield / 1 baton / or 2 guns
x170 - 1 armored brute (with shock gloves)
x180 - 1 shield / 1 baton / or 2 guns
x190 - 2 ninja
x200 - 1 shield / 1 baton / or 2 guns
x210 - 1 medic
x230 - 1 armored brute (random weapon)
x250 - 1 armored brute / 1 medic / or 2 ninja
x270 - 1 armored brute / 1 medic / or 2 ninja
x290 - 1 armored brute / 1 medic / or 2 ninja
x310 - 1 armored brute / 1 medic / or 2 ninja
After x310 only basic thugs spawn for the remainder of the challenge.
In general, my strategy is to clear the board of as many time-consuming enemies as I can before I reach x200. This includes destroying all knives, shields, and batons, and defeating all three brutes. Ninjas suck and medics eat time so the fewer of those around when the clock starts the better. It’s your call when it comes to destroying guns. The danger in leaving them is obviously you can get shot, but also the camera can swing unpredictably to center on a gun, causing you to attack in a different direction than you were intending and potentially break combo. Leaving guns isn’t all bad, though, since they will frequently be at the top of the attack queue and other enemies won’t attack in the meantime, giving you more space to combo. I usually destroy a couple and leave a couple but I don’t think there’s necessarily a wrong answer, just what works best for you.
After the timer starts it’s go time. The first thing to be on the lookout for is what weapon spawns at x200. If it’s a shield I destroy it; a baton I might destroy it or I might REC it; and if it’s guns I leave them. Next is the medic at x210. Medics require a minimum of three critical strikes (and at least one of those with special) to KO. I usually wipe medics with multi-ground takedowns so I don’t have to deal with electrified enemies but admittedly the highest scoring strategy is to KO with strikes.
The first brute spawns at x230 and this is where the challenge gets brutal. Using bats against brutes has the highest scoring potential but the best tactic through the brute gauntlet is the one that doesn’t drop combo and comes out the other side at x310. My advice is you start your climb with basic tactics versus the brutes so you can make it to the final sprint and get comfortable with the entire run. If you get hung up on trying to perfect the brutes you might never make it into the clear where you score the big points. Personally, I only used regular takedowns on brutes until after I broke x500 and started the climb toward x600.
The final sprint is tricky. Thugs on Combo Master have a cheeky sucker punch that’s not in Azrael’s Atonement so you can’t combo with auto-aim here the same way you can there. Odds are you’re going to have to counter and move more to stay ahead of incoming attacks. Trying to turn back into an attacking enemy is especially dangerous since that sucker punch is always in play.
Well, that’s the outline. Unlike Azrael’s Atonement or Newton’s Cradle where the best run has been distilled into a specific strategy, Combo Master is much more open-ended. You’re going to need Batman’s entire bag of tricks to make it to the end so keep stacking tactics and pull them out when needed. If you want some targets to set your sights on, imo you’re an Arkham Master at x400 and an Arkham Grand Master at x500. For x500 you’re probably going to need x300+ at 1 minute on the clock.

I can’t imagine with no enemie indicators. This man is flawlessly destroying everyone and destroying all the guns and the big guys like that and never breaking the combo in free flow is literally insane

I’ve been able to get to 524 but that’s not even on Knightmare and it was in Azrael’s Atonement as Red Hood. Not saying that’s good or anything but this is a whole other level of impressive. Also, where did you get that suit? It’s badass
It's called the Earth 2 Dark Knight skin. It was originally available only through a voucher code given out at E3 but was later released by rocksteady for free in 2020. It might be PS4 only, though, I'm not sure.
x500+ on Azrael's Atonement is a solid run, especially with Red Hood since it gets pretty crowded with weapons down the stretch. Nice work, keep it up 👍

The timer doesn’t start until you reach x200 so there’s no rush before then. Take your time and clear the board of the annoying enemies so they don’t start to stack up. If you haven’t seen it, I included the spawn schedule in the video description. Once you know it, it’s easier to plan ahead.
I guess leapfrogging over enemies is the way.
I've been trying to get myself in the top 100 on this one. I have made a combo before in other challenges that could get my their but that timer that starts when you get 200 combo cuts me off. I either use caution and prepare for a counter and take out the brutes witch consumes times, or I try to rush it and risk getting hit. I think I just learned a few methods with this one to use. I had no idea that a weapon would damage an armored brute directly.

In my game there is a bug and my character is moving extremely slow, while enemies are as fast as always.
You have to build speed by timing your attacks one after another. Batman automatically gets faster eventually
you can use the special combo batclaw slam to one tap the militia brutes rather than use two special combo takedowns
All these years later I still want to know who auditore034 is. I always imagine somehow their timer glitched and they got to keep playing until they got hit? Or I'm just in denial about them being some kind of arkham savant.
I had kind of forgotten about that score. It’s curious for sure. The oddest part for me is the player never showed up on any other leaderboards. Even if the timer glitched and they had unlimited time, a x1000+ combo is no simple feat. You’d figure they would’ve put up another big score at some point.
I literally cannot do this because they don't spawn fast enough before my combo meter breaks.
This should only be an issue at the beginning of the challenge when there’s less enemies in play. Once you get to around x50 you should be fine. The timer doesn’t start until you reach x200 so just slow down at the beginning.

How come his combo doesn’t disappear after 1 second? Also any tips for getting critical hits? I know ur supposed to hit attack again after you impact with previous hit but barely works.
I’m not sure what you mean by their combo disappearing after 1 second. Maybe you didn’t see them picking up the bats on the ground at 2:44 and 3:02? Or if you are referring to the stall at 3:19, they waited so they could counter the ninja, but it wasn’t long enough of a wait as to break the combo. Regarding the critical hits, are you talking about the beginning of the combo? Because I share the same struggle. There’s a lot of slo-mo when you’re starting a combo that messes with your timing, but it’s not really a big deal. Otherwise, you kind of just get a feel for the critical hits as you keep playing.
Idk how long exactly it takes for a combo to time out (1s sounds about right), but it’s longer than you think. You can even walk around a few steps between strikes and not drop combo. As for critical strikes, to score a critical strike you press strike after (or ideally at the same time) the previous strike makes contact. It’s said FreeFlow started as a rhythm game so it might help to think of it in that regard. Some attack animations are short beats, others are long beats. The goal is to stay on beat with when the strikes make contact.
Back then when video game industries didn’t screw up the hardware and programming of their games. I tried doing this today on my PS5 and the gameplay is so lagging and full of glitches. Even though I tried fixing the problem.

Is there any benefit to playing on a harder difficulty?
Yes but it's minimal. For this challenge, on normal difficulty, counters score x1 and throw counters x2. On knightmare difficulty, counters score x2 and throw counters x3. Other than that scoring is the same.

You are the first guy I saw having a perfect timing that you even outstrike the incoming attacks and it's because of you I get to know about this outstriking technique . it's the most satisfying technique so far . And iam glad to tell you that iam almost catching up with you with this outstriking technique by practicing and perfecting my timings in the combat.
