    Great video. I've been looking for a decent 27 inch 4K display for work, and this one might very well win. Only bémol is the 60Hz refresh rate honestly, it would have been a perfect monitor with 120Hz.

    Worth noting that while it doesn't seem like there's much difference between 4K and 5K, 5K actually has around 55% more pixels than 4K, so not really all that fair to compare the two. It's hard to really compare given there aren't any other 5K panels from other companies out there, Dell discontinued theirs years ago and it was a stitched image anyway that required two physical DisplayPort signals rather than the single contiguous image stream used in the 5K iMacs etc. Apple had to develop their own timing chip at the time because DisplayPort couldn't physically do 5K over a single cable.

    • @stevens1041
      @stevens1041 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait, what? DP 2.0 has nearly double the throughtput as Thunderbolt 4. DP absolutely could handle 5k over a single cable. Can't even 1.4 do 8k at 60 Hz?

      5K is more pixels than 4K, yes. Which is why I bought 2x of the Dell U2723QE which is 8.3M x2 pixels. So 16.6M - 14.7M pixels = 13% more pixels at only 40% of the price for me.

    mac scaling ...5k over 4k non apple is something to thing about. Most say 4k is fine with "BetterMonitor" (that app that makes the display look good on 4k). I would go 5k anyday of Dell made it. Not Samsung S9. An NOT Apple Display as this only works well foe Apple stuff. Please can somebody make a 5k again that is NOT amied at Mac or Windows. Please both.

    Jeez you addressed everything I wanted to know about this monitor! Great review :) Even as an amateur photographer I really wish I could get the Apple Display. I've used MBP with Retina resolution for the last 12 years and now I just bought a Mac mini. My 11 year old Dell Ultrasharp is so depressingly bad lol 1080p and not even LED lit, colours are all over the place. I just know I'm going to regret getting this Dell. The only real option for a decent monitor is the Alogic clarity. They don’t have matte finishes and they have a lot of the Apple studio features. I got mine for less than 700 USD.

      Fonts looks good, but not quite as sharp as the Studio. The brightness is worse and therefore the white value is a bit more "grey". The brilliance is significantly worse because it is matte. The worst thing about the Dell, in my opinion, is that black surfaces reflect badly, even though it is matte! There are also no speakers, not even bad ones, and no webcam. On top of that, the stand vibrates for a lot longer. But I think the thin frame on the Dell is nicer (like Studio: symmetrical and without advertising lettering but thinner) and you can switch between a stand and VESA mount at any time... At $900, the Dell is pointless, but for under $500 it is of course a cost-effective alternative with limitations.

  • @Voigt_Analytics

    I ordered a new unit but received a used unit from Dell with a broken seal, missing calibration protocol and scratches. However, they also exchanged the device quickly. However, with a lot of support effort and a long delivery time of about a week (UPS standard). They did not even announce the pick-up. The UPS courier had to come back the next day.
    I think the monitor is very good.
    But there are also many points deducted (no speaker, no webcam, the conference soundbar doesn't sound very great, only HDR 400, black contrast is okay but not convincing, everything is only made of plastic, some ports are hard to reach).

    Curious if anyone is having the same experience or could give their opinion on what is happening with my Dell U2723QE.
    I recently set it up with a Mac mini. Whenever it goes to sleep or sometimes when I power up I get a generic pop up stating it's scanning for hdmi signal, then it will state no hdmi signal and then the screen will either power up or sleep.
    I bought a new hdmi cord from Apple, the Belkin 4k high speed so it should be good quality. It is 6 feet so I guess it takes longer.
    When I wake it from sleep it takes about 8 seconds which seems slow when compared to a 100% apple setup.
    Is it normal to get these pop ups stating no hdmi signal?
    The back also seems loose around the power button so I will request a replacement, but I'm curious if the hdmi situation will stay the same.

    • @Underhills
      @Underhills ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johna7411 What do you mean by sharp text? On webpages, in application UI, rendered typefaces in creative software? There's many factors that affects how text is rendered, even what OS you have. In my experience you need at least 32" (or 31.9") screen estate to really utilize 1:1 4K. I've been using 1440p on 27" 16:9 and 16:10 for years and compared with 4K on same monitor size, on a 27" 4K display I had to constantly scale the UI on W10. Even local application scaling in Adobe software in addition.

    • @Underhills
      @Underhills ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johna7411 Well, I think a good high quality monitor would do a better job at 1440p. I'm using the Eizo ColorEdge CG2730 27 @1440p and the text is as crisp as it can be, compared to any 4K monitor I've tried, the difference on sharpness is absent. In general higher resolution doesn't provide better image quality, color accuracy and overall stability in general. Higher resolution can provide improved sharpness, but that in turn can lead to worse image quality as well if the monitor is of poorer quality. Machine hardware also plays a part in this. However if you compare a low budget 2K monitor with a newer and more expensive 4K monitor quality differences are expected. 4K on 27" creates scaling issues in almost all local applications on W10, but I know that Mac OS handles scaling better.

      @@Underhills The pixel density of the 1440p monitor is lower and a high quality 1440p monitor won't change that. My point is that at this lower resolution I can see the pixels at my preferred viewing distance and that is an annoyance for me. Of course picture quality consists of other factors but one part of that is pixel density at various viewing distances otherwisecwe would still be using 1080p 27 inch monitors.
