This is one of the best videos I've seen. The video provided answers to all my questions regarding this monitor. I was glued to the content, I can't believe how outstanding the information and descriptions were. Simply amazing! Thank you so much!
I have this monitor and it’s wonderful. The IPS Black feature makes a significant difference especially when viewing blacks side by side with the previous model I have next to it (U2027Q)
I bought one too 32 inch for the $860 waiting to arrives with i9 desktop computer, with that money I could buy 65 in 4K TV, hope at least goes for the long years
I have a triple monitor setup with 2xU2720Q's and 1xU2723QE. I placed the U2723QE in the middle of the other monitors because of IPS Black is noticeably better on the eyes. It's definitely better as the main (middle) display. I would like to just upgrade the U2720Q's to the U2723QE's since the price point has drastically come down compared to spending over $750 for the first one!
I just purchased two of these monitors, and this video was extremely helpful for learning how to set them up and also understanding all of the included features. Great job!
Question for you Michael. I’ve got the two U2723QEs daisy chained together with a DP cable. I have my work laptop, a Dell Latitude, connected to the 90W USB-C input on monitor 1, and everything is great. I just purchased a brand new Mac Mini M2 Pro and want to get it integrated. I downloaded the DMM program on both machines to set up the KVM. The Mac is connected to monitor 1 with HDMI and USB-C, and configured as such in DMM, but I’m only getting a single monitor at 1080 res, with lots of flickering and WiFi dropping. Any suggestions?
I don’t know if Dell intended to do it but they have created a monitor that I think many Mac users will be interested in. I just can’t bring myself to spend the money Apple is asking for their Studio Display and I am really looking for a 32 inch monitor anyway. Looking hard, I find very little that seems to compare in color accuracy, brightness, connectivity, and aesthetics. This monitor seems to tick many of the boxes and has me very interested. Thank you very much for the comprehensive breakdown. It seems like it may not be your area of experience, but I am looking forward to more information about how this monitor performs in creative tasks like photo editing. Other companies have offerings with similar features, but those seem to be based on older tech and suffer in brightness especially. So the U3223QE is certainly at the top of my list.
Scott, we have a big following of Mac users with our Displays and Thunderbolt docks (we WD22TB4 support dual displays with the M1 Macs). You bring up a good point about the U3223QE, it is an excellent price point for what it is. If you are doing photo editing it is a great display for the price. People will argue that it does not have dimming zones, mini-LED or built-in calman (like the Dell UP3221Q does). But that is the difference between spending sub $1000 vs $4000+. For sub $1000 you can get DisplayHDR 400, factory calibrated 98% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB. The U3223QE give you a great Photo Editing display without breaking the bank.
@@MichaelOHanian Can you give us more info on using this with Mac as concerned to scaling and ppi? mac users (as far as I have researched) Need a range of 217 or 109 so the computer needs to work harder to scale to a 27" 4k monitor. That limits us to either 5k or QHD 1440. Am I missing something?
Yup. I just bit the bullet on this monitor coming from an iMac. This seemed like the best value and hope I will love it. I can’t feel good about forking over $1600 for the apple display plus a $2800 Mac when I purchased essentially the same package in an iMac for $2500 back in the day. Wish more people would vote with their wallet.
@@skyiswomb1 I purchased the 32” version a few weeks back and so far I seriously enjoy it! It’s fantastic to have such great hub options and the color accuracy is as good as I had hoped. Currently I have my new Mac Studio and My old MacBook Pro hooked up at the same time and it’s a breeze to switch back and fourth. That has really helped as I did not do the Apple migration and I am setting up the new computer completely fresh.
I've been watching videos of USB C monitors for the past 2 months. I currently use a 24 inch Dell that I bought over 7 years ago. It still works fine but uses VGA so an upgrade is a must. I first settled on the Samsung M8 but realised it's crap plus it doesn't have VESA mount capability. The next choice was the LG Ultrafine 32 but it has poor or no HDR. I got so frustrated that I was planning to get a Titan Army 32 inch with just 1080p. That was when I saw this video. Although you are a Dell guy, the features you mentioned are no hype. So no more time wasted on video reviews for me. Thank you for a very enjoyable video.
I have this setup, both monitor and sound bar, and for anyone having problems for hub to work (that includes external speakers), just find USB to USB-C cable (one of the options) and push USBC into monitor, into central USBC port, then other side. USB, into any port on back of your computer (I have desktop computer). Works like a charm. I couldn't understand why my dell speaker bar didn't work. One more time - Great review and a lot of extra good info! Thank you
Good review. We have these at work. Problem is that Dell monitor quality has dropped over the years. I deployed one of these 2 weeks ago and the backlight on the left side failed shortly thereafter. We've had other problems as well. Good innovation but Dell needs to up the quality part of the equation to what is was previously.
Thank you! And I agree. Well, within it's price range. Could spend a couple thousand or more an jump a level but that is a very specialized field. I am using the U2723QE as my work display now. Love it!
Hello Mr. O'Hanian, I just wanted to thank you for reviewing all these products :) as I am starting to work for Dell Technologies next week as a Client Sales Solution Specialist I wanted to deep dive into all the Dell Tech. Through all the video's on your channel I've learned about quite a few features on these amazing Dell Monitors, Desktops, PCs, and so forth...
Congratulations for the excellent review, the most complete and detailed I have seen after watching many videos. You deserve to have an affiliate link here to the store, Dell, Amazon or other, to receive a compensation for this work. I think many people would click and use your link if you put it here.
@@MichaelOHanian I ordered one, and the hub was a big selling point, I like the ability to have one monitor that several laptops can connect to by one USB-C wire. Thanks again for the review.
I would like to hear more on this as well. So far what I have researched on a 27" monitor is best to stick to either 5k or QHD 1440 so 4k is just not a good option. Unless the screen can scale for the computer?
I get a lot of questions form Apple users. There is a big following of Apple users with Dell Displays and our Thunderbolt docks. I do know the local Apple rep, maybe I can get him to loan me one. Being a Dell employee, I cannot overcome my objection to buying a Mac. :-)
Thank you for the detailed video and explanation. Really enjoyed the lesson. I just ordered this monitor since I use an XPS notebook that also supports a 4K-output display (the thunderbolt port)
Michael, the great things about your videos are that you are actually Someone from Dell, and with so much deep knowledge you can give us objective and professional reviews! One appeal - If it's possible, please bring both U3223QE and U3023E and demonstrate them side by side. Comparable monitors in 30"s diapason - One is 4K, and the other is 16:10. For the last six years, I'm with U2415 and it's absolutely brilliant! Unbelievable how good this monitor is with the 16:10 aspect ratio, and just thinking of upgrade is it any reason to get 16:9 no matter is 4K, because I'm 99% sure 16:10 U3023E will be better for me no matter lower resolution and on pure black offered from these two models - U2723QE and U3223QE.
Hey Michael Great video - do the ports support daisy chain and KVM simultaneously - funnily enough I have the u2720q and was looking for a KVM and additional monitor to support dual work environments - cheers Barry
Speaking about Black IPS, how can the light be more focus for each pixel individually if the back light is coming from the edge? Is there 2 layers of LCD? The normal RGB one and another one behind to pre-filter the light? Content about this is hard to find.
best video of all u2723qe review videos. thank you so much. and you have great voice by the way. i would have listened to you forever if you talk to me
Which monitor is best to pair with this model when setting up dual displays? Thought you mentioned it in the video but, couldn’t find it. Thanks in advance for your response. Keep the content coming it’s great.
Excellent question. You would pair is with another U2723QE. Reason we don't make a pairing non-hub to go with the U2723QE is it would cost more to support a second display than it would just to make Hub standard. For the last two months I have been using dual U2723QE's for work. Loved it. Just moved the the U4021QE 5K non-IPS Black. Got to say, the IPS Black makes a huge difference. I miss the U2723QE.
I just got 2 of these monitors, I have dell laptop with linux and my 2nd PC will be a mac-mini. Probably a unique combo for sure. Can I use the bottom USB-C with power for my laptop and the 2nd monitor USB-C with power for the mac-mini? I am less concerned about the actual power supply and more about just using that USB-C port for video input. Id like to switch between both computers but have both use dual displays. I know ill still need to daisy-chain them together with the display port cable. Thanks.
Sadly, I had some issues with this monitor while plugged in to my Dell XPS 15 9570 laptop (plugged in via the USB-C port). When I set the monitor to the recommended (and highest) resolution of 3840 x 2160, videos on the monitor would skip and stutter really badly. For a while, I just solved this by lowering the resolution to 2560 x 1440, which was not ideal since I was losing out on one of the major draws to this monitor. I finally solved the issue by changing a setting on the actual monitor. The setting I changed was under Main Menu > Display > USB-C Prioritization, and I changed it from "High Data Speed" to "High Resolution". I figure this is going to have an effect the read/write speed of a disk the next time I plug an external hard drive to the monitor's USB hub, but it's a compromise I'm willing to make.
how did u manage to got no eye strain? i sit like 100cm of this monitor still got eye strain first minutes of using it at 40/40 brigthenss/constrast, any fix? I didnt finish video maybe thats gonna answer hopefully but plz see this and help :S
Wow Michael thanks so much for this great review ....Just to confirm these are compatible with the MS19 Stand ? And with Display stream compression do I use a USB-C cable ?
Great video! Thanks. I like the pbp mode alot. What is the little black box that comes out of your personal labtop? It's a hub .... yes? Your labtob is a usb-c device and you need the HDMI/DP and a USB port to plug into the monitor? Is that about right maybee?
Thank you! That is a DA305 www.delltechnologies.com/asset/en-us/products/electronics-and-accessories/technical-support/dell-usb-c-multiport-adapter-da305-datasheet.pdf
@@MichaelOHanian your simple video did it. Seeing it working the way i need it to and the illustrations made my go for it. Spot on. I’ve watched many of your videos. They tend to have less “cluter” and the others! No thank you! I have many Dell displays and Its has Always been my “goto”. Have a nice day. Btw. I dont think rhe display manager and the mouse share works if one of the machines are on vpn. That would impress. But i dont think it Will work as Its network based (from What i see). So close … But nu cigar. But i have a plan b to solve the issues. The usb hub is also what made me look into this. Brilliant thing to build in. The one downside Will be rhat the control stick is in the back. My current has the control in the front of the display. Very Easy. But after you showed the display manager (i had no idea this exsists!) the control placement is irrelevant. Thanks!
Didn't know that original 'usb-c to usb-c' cable is capable to send a video signal, so I had to use separate 'usb-c to HDMI' cable before watching this video, and separate cable for charging a notebook. :D Thank you, it's such a good and informative video. btw, I wonder if I can connect a PC to this monitor with my old 'usb-c to HDMI' cable, so that HDMI side will be connected to PC, and the usb-c side will be connected to the monitor?
I think MST / dual extended monitor that is briefly explained here is s bit wrong?? the last monitor connected as DisplayPort out should be on the far right side?
Hello! If I have two laptops connected like your video using display port and usb-c, connecting my internet to rj45 port, will I have internet in both laptops?
so much Info. didnt know about blue light thats great as my eyes are old lol. Also didnt know for extra ports THANK YOU monitor is great and works with iPad air 5 M1 amazingly
Can you make a video about Dells 4K displays and MacOS regarding scaling issues. I see more and more of these chats popping up and i would like to know if this means that a 27" 4K cannot work with my macbook, if it results in performance issues and/or is only in specific settings
This is one of the best explanations of this monitor I have been able to find. Thank you. I had a questi0on that I could use some clarification on if possible. I run an M2 MBP and a dual monitor setup. I am looking to upgrade my current monitors. I am heavily leaning to picking up 2 of the U2723QEs. What I need clarity on is if I run two of these, what happens to all the ports on the second monitor if daisychained through the DisplayPort? Can they be the two be daisychained through the downstream USB C and the ports still work? I currently run a Thunderbolt 3 dock to manage all of my connections but if possible, this could negate the need for it. TIA
Thank you @bruane The M2 MBP does not support MST that allows for the daisy chaining. Unfortunately the only work around that I know of is getting a Universal Dock with DisplayLink.
Hi , really love your channel, i help me a lot to decide what i get for dell product, recently (SEP 2023) I got dell precision 5480 after watch your review on Dell 5470. thank you very much for your info and example your demonstration. I have a question about new monitor that i plan to purchase. Since I watch your Dell U2723QE Ultra-Sharp 27 IPS Black 4K . But I plan to get new monitor U3824DW or U4924DW . I just wonder that those 2 monitor have enough power to support my Dell precision 5480 with one single usb-c type? like this video at min 25:45. My precision 5480 ( i7-13800H vPro, 64GB, NVIDIA R TX 2000 Ada 130W Adapter with US Power Cord) and those monitor support daisy chain that u mention on this video also? thank you very much
Hi @thanapoomsiri The most any of those monitors will support is 90W of power. Not enough for completely charge the 5470. You can still charge the 5740 via the monitor but you run the risk of consuming more battery power faster than you can charge it. I have the 5470 (i7-H, 32GB, RXT3000) and I have never gotten to that point. So, what to do. 1. Risk running out of battery (using power from monitor) 2. Plug the 5470 into the AC adapter that came with the systems. 3. WD22TB4 thunderbolt dock. Things are starting to change with power delivery on displays. Something call EPR (extended power range). The new U3224KB, 6K Thunderbolt 4 monitor with EPR and 140W power delivery. But you need more than just the monitor, the notebook needs to support ERP. Right now only the Precision 5680 supports ERP. Hope this helps.
@azer.kafkasli You're welcome! Did use two for the U2723QE's from my work setup for a month. I loved that set up, might be my favorite setup. Definitely in my top 5. IPS Black is real. It is hard to move off of and IPS Black display. Note: I switch displays every month so I know what it like to work with them.
Im using a studio display with my mac but i want to use this monitor too. When I connect my mac to studio, it charges my mac so if I connect this monitor with usb-c(video and data) my mac will be receiving double charge. So, can I connect my mac to the another usb-c upstream port?
Thanks for an excellent product and presentation. Can DELL go the extra mile by connecting the second system just like the first system using a single usb-c cable video+data+PD.
I get that comment often. It would be nice to have just two cables to hook two notebooks into the display. Not 100% but I believe the issues is supply enough power to both systems. There are some power limitations to USB-C.
simple question. i cant sit thru 30 mins of video to search for a 1 sentence answer. I have a USBC webcam. This monitor is connected to my pc via a single HDMI cable. Can I connect my webcam to this monitor directly so i can use it? or does the webcam need to be connected to the pc directly.
Thank you! Two ways. You can do it via the display in the menu settings (use joystick on the back of display) or you can download (free) Dell Display Manager and it will let you create shortcuts on your keyboard.
Any chance you have a Thunderbolt version of this in 32in coming anytime soon (similar to U3223QE)? I use windows laptop for or work and 2020 MacBook Pro (4 thunderbolt 3 ports version with intel chip), so wanted to do a dual monitor set up (32in, 4K, 60hz, IPS black with Daisy Chain capability for my MacBook), but it seems it’s not available at the moment. I am looking at a dual HP z32k as my alternative, as it has same features as u3223qe, but includes thunderbolt 4. When would this potentially come to market, if at all?
@slavaukraini7 Nothing on the roadmap for this year. We are about to launch a 34" (WQHD)and 40" 5K curved with TBT and 120Hz. I posted a video sneak peek on my TH-cam channel of the 40".
Hi Michael, I have two U3223QE Displays. Does Daisy chain works only with “DP to DP” cable between the two monitors or it can also work with “USB-C to USB-C” cable between the two monitors?
Hi Michael. I really appreciated your video 👍. I’d like to know if PiP & PbP can be enabled having one monitor connected through USB-C (Primary) and another one connected through HDMI (Secondary). Is this setup supported on U2723QE?
I have a question regarding the KVM functionality: My setup: - Three Dell U2723QE monitors - One laptop HP EliteBook 840 G8 (1 x HDMI and 2 x TB4) - One desktop custom build (2 x DP and 1 x HDMI) The laptop is connected via 1 x HDMI and 2 x USB-C and the desktop is connected via 2 x DP and 2 x USB-C-A and 1 x HDMI to the screens. Two of the screens (the ones connected via USB-C/USB-C-A cables) have various USB peripherals connected to them that shall be shared amongst both laptop and desktop. Generally speaking, I can use both laptop and PC perfectly fine with the three screens running at 4K@60Hz. However, in order to achieve this, I have to manually switch back and forth between laptop and desktop using the control on the back as I am not running Windows on both machines. I asumed that the screens would just chose whatever input is active when I power up either my laptop or my desktop. However, this does not happen (monitors are set to auto input) as the screens just wait for the last valid input source (i.e.: I used my laptop using USB-C and HDMI, shut it down and boot up the desktop, but the screens will keep looking for USB-C inputs and thus go into standby as there's no more USB-C input in this case). Is this the intended behaviour? It would be much nicer if the screens chose the input source automatically to whatever signal is active. Is there any firmware update for this?
@@MichaelOHanian The laptop is running Windows 10, the desktop is running Archlinux. I don't see how that should have anything to do with the screens automatically chosing the (only active) input source. It seems to be a hardware related issue.
Thanks Michael for walking through this, very useful to understand the 32" version I bought. Was fiddling around the ports wondering how these ports work, why isn't it as easy as my previous Dell U2410. Interesting use cases you explained there, shows much thought that went into the product. No offense, maybe you can ask Dell (Chad?) to supply you a new headset / mike and camera ;)
You're welcome! I hear ya on my video quality. This is not my job at Dell, I just make them for fun. I told my wife how much I need to spend on a good camera and mic and I got a HARD NO from her. :-)
When you use the KVM feature to switch from work to home laptop, is the monitor's Ethernet also switched thus disconnecting the work laptop's Internet connection? If so, then that is a major problem and probably prevents my purchasing such as display (I need to occasionally switch to a second computer without disrupting my USB-C connected laptop's operations like a VPN/onging conference). I am not even sure if I could work around this with an external KVM if I wanted to use the monitor's docking capability. I hope future Dell monitors will separate the docking aspect from the KVM aspect, so the USB-C connected device permanently has things like Ethernet/USB available, with the KVM switching the screen and a few other USBs.
What a great review and i really think of buying this one now over an other brands. I only have a question which I maybe missed in you review. How are the wireless kb and mouse connected in case you use the 2 laptops at the same time ?
Thank you! I have the KB & mouse connected to a USB downstream port on the monitor. When I jump from each PC it automatically connects to the PC being used.
@@kukush1071 you can connect 2 laptops. However, the second laptop will have to have a display connection to the monitor, a USB upstream cable and finally the notebook will have to be plugged into power.
Second question: I have the second laptop hook up to the monitor via HDMI port and the USB-C upstream port (the latter to take advantage of KVM). For the latter, can I link this second laptop via one of the USB-A ports (instead of the USB-C)?
Hey Michael, surprised to see you cannot simply daisychain 3 of these together via usb c (I actually ordered 3…). You mentioned 12gen processor supporting DSC in combination with MST. Do you know by any chance if this will support 3x4k@60hz? Thanks!
It is all a limitation of USB-C. IEEE is going to be releasing new versions of USB-C in then next few years that will greatly expand multiple display capability. MST & DSC is pushing the limitations of USB-C. To your question, it only supports 2 4K displays at 60Hz. Right now, I am recommending the WD22TB4 (Dell Thunderbolt 4 Dock) once you go over 2 displays. The WD22TB4 supports up to 4 4K displays. Sure this isn't the answer you wanted to hear but I help my response was helpful.
Super helpful and throrough. Is the only way to daisy chain to the second monitor is through the Display Port Out? Can you daisy chain using one of the other USB-Cs ports (either the upstream or downstream)?
Hello Michael - a really nice breakdown of the features and I have been eying this model for a few weeks now and it is definitely compelling! Have a couple of follow up questions. Would be great to get some answers to those! My usage is primarily going to be in a dual display + Auto KVM situation where I am planning on pairing my current Dell P2419H as a secondary monitor to the main U2723QE. My connected devices would be my home pc and my work laptop (which has USB-C). 1. Dell Display Manager needs to be installed on both the home pc and the work laptop, correct? 2. If I used the auto kvm, would it switch the entire dual displays between the home pc and work laptop? 3. how will PIP and PBP modes work in your example, if I have hooked up a 2nd monitor? 4. Do I necessarily need to run a USB-C to USB-C cable from my home pc to the USB-C downstream for the KVM to work? How about a USB-A to USB-C, in the event that I do not have a USB-C port on my 2nd computer where I live the U2723QE is a pretty pricey investment for this, which is why I am asking so many questions! Thank you for your time! Edit : I shot off my questions without reading through all your responses to other questions (My bad!) I think I only have #4 that I did not have an answer for in the comments!
It can be USB-A to USB-C. I just uploaded a new video on the U3223QZ th-cam.com/video/Dh5nNickH2I/w-d-xo.html Around the 45 minute mark I show a second PC connecting to the display (with all the connections). 2nd PC will require a power source, video (DisplayPort or HDMI) and a USB connection (from PC to the USB-C upstream port).
@@kayeos You're welcome. It is a really nice display. I didn't return my to Dell HQ after I shot the video..I have held onto it and have been using it for my work display. At some point they are going to yell at me to return it. :-)
Very clear video! Can I daisy chain this 4K monitor with a 1920x1200 monitor? I have an older Dell UltraSharp with this resolution that I want to keep using and would be nice get a cleaner cable management this way.
Hi Michael, I have the U2723QE and an XPS 9520 with the 12th gen. I thought these would be a perfect combo due to only USB-C on the XPS. I am having trouble connecting a new second monitor - a S2722QC. Spent hours talking to Pro Support, each tech has own opinion and no perfect advice. The XPS and U2723QE are connected via the USB-C Video+Data. The S2722QC has DP over USB-C and HDMI but no pure DP as all info seems to expect. From the U2723QE: Tried DP out to a USB-C cable, DP to HDMI, HDMI to HDMI, and USB-C to USB-C. With DP out to HDMI, the XPS recognizes the S2722QC but the screen is black. Nothing with the others. MST & Multi-Monitor Sync are on. Connecting the S2722QC via a second C direct to the XPS works but shouldn't be necessary. The last tech said all monitors must have MST so S2722QC is not compatible, Dell daisy-chain FAQ says last in chain does not require MST. Also was told the U272QE is not a real dock and therefore not as capable, recommended a WD22TB4. I am Dell loyal and disappointed with support. The S2722QC is returnable to seller. What is the best solution? A different monitor, a different doc, or ? Looking forward to your advice.
On top of turning your MST "on" you will need to go in to your U2723QE menu and select "Display" then "USB Prioritization" and then select "High Resolution". Some times it is an Art/Science thing and you have to jump back to High Data then back to High Resolution to get it to kick in. See if that works.
@@MichaelOHanian Hey, Thanks for the quick response... No joy.. I toggled the High Res to High Data multiple times, tried the various cable options, toggling each time.. no change the S2722QC is still black.
@Michael O'Hanian. I thought I would update so others might not struggle as I did. I was able to resolve the problem by replacing the S2722QC with a S2721QS. Other than being a previous model, the only difference is the DisplayPort connection. The S2721QS has standard DisplayPort connector vs the DP1.4/C port on the S2722QC which is not able to sync with the U2723QE. Connected the S2721QS and BINGO! So basically, the Dell S2722QC is not daisy-chain compatible. Dell should update the daisy-chain compatibility of the higher-end monitors for DP/C or include a standard DisplayPort connection on all in 4K line.
Hi Mike. I got this monitor last week to use with my older U2720Q. I feel this one has much warmer colours. So white pages feel paler compared to my U2720Q. Is it how it’s supposed be?
@imranDawood If you go in the the menu of the U2723QE you can adjust the color temperature. I use this same display for work. I have mine set on "Game" color temperature.
@@MichaelOHanian Thanks for the response I’ve checked that and Game profile makes no difference to temperature or brightness. My question was more about the display on Standard profile. If these monitors are designed to be bit paler out of the box?
Display manufacturers should put more money into this. Combining this with mini-led local dimming tech, but instead opting to only slightly dim the zones (lessening the noticeable blooming effect that mini-led displays are infamous for), would result in a much closer competition to OLED.
@@MichaelOHanian Especially when they begin to use fluorophosphorescent subpixels for extra longevity + brightness, and sort out their arrangement for better text and fine detail clarity! Mind you, ink jet oled might take over price/performance wise when they start using fluophosphorescent RGB subpixels as well!
I just bought this DELL U2723QE monitor! I had watched this video prior to buying and really convinced me this was the monitor for me to buy! Thanks for the great video. QUESTION: I have connected my Macbook Pro M2 laptop to the monitor and have selected the 2723QE as the main display and have the laptop selected as the extended display. I bought this monitor with the idea that I can connect peripherals such as a webcam or scanner to the back of the monitor since it is a hub. Will that work? I just connected a webcam to one of the USB ports in the monitor and I'm having trouble getting the webcam to work? Any tricks to getting it to work? Thanks!
How is the low brightness? My eyes are quite sensitive to bright screens especially white backgrounds, but reviewers never bother mentioning about minimum brightness. On my current monitor, I have been using windows with a high contrast setting since colors are mediocre at low brightness.
I would like to use PBP mode on single pc. How can I connect 2 video sources from the same computer? Can I connect them in DP and HDMI? Or can the second DP be used as source to allow connecting 2 DP sources?
Thanks for the great video, Michael. I have a Dell SE2723DS (2560 by 1440 with two HDMI ports and a display port) that I use as a second monitor with an older iMac. I plan to buy a Mac Studio in the near future and plan on using the Dell U2723QE daisy chained to my existing S2723DS as a second monitor. Is it possible to daisy chain these two monitors with the U2723 first in line or will I need to hook up the S2723DS separately via USB C or Thunderbolt. Thank you,
You can daisy chain the S2723DS from the U2723QE. Note, in the display menu you will need to enable "MST" and set USB-C Prioritization to High Resolution.
Great Video, very thorough! I purchased 2 of the monitors. My first monitor is connected to my XPS 9310 is siting at 4k 30Hz and the 2nd monitor connected through MST (Display Port) is sitting at 1920x1200 60Hz. I believe that my XPS 9310 has some limitation and may not support the DSC feature that you mentioned. My question is, How do I find a PC or laptop that supports that DSC technology?
Can you use DDM to have a horizontal splitscreen in picture by picture? And when in PBP mode, does each computer still see the full resolution of the screen or only the resolution of that area? And lastly, could you use the Displayport out to run a 24" 1080 Dell monitor? Loving the hub idea as I currently have a desktop & laptop with dual 24" monitors, and the auto KVM would be beautiful for total control! Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer those, as it's the biggest hurdle to me upgrading to a new monitor setup - one large single, ultrawide + 1080 for reference, dual "27, lots of research to be had! :) And thank you Michael for making these videos, much appreciated sir! :)
Thank you. A lot of your questions can be answered here: www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000060112/what-is-dell-display-manager . PbP you have up to 4 options 1. Side-by-side, 2. One horizontal and two stacked right, 3. Same as #2 but stacked left, and 4. Quad (only supported on the U4320Q). Yes, you can customized your layout. On the DiplayPort out, yes you can run a 24" 1080P. I am running a second 27" QHD as my second display. Great informative video Michael, thanks for posting it. One question for you... I recently purchased a Dell U2723QE to replace one of my dual monitor setup. I'd like to replace the second monitor now, but don't need all the hub functionality on that one; Does Dell make another monitor with identical display features and functionality but without the hub features? Thanks.
Excellent question. It was one of the first questions I had. The short answer is no. Longer answer. The Hub concept is starting to become a standard feature in U series displays. It is more cost effective for us to make it standard than it is to take it out.
@@MichaelOHanian Thanks for replying so quick. Yeah, I went and did my own research and found exactly what you said, that there's no comparable one without the hub functionality. I'm really enjoying the monitor though, so I bit the bullet and just placed an order for a second one.
Thanks for the review, seeing the KVM in action with the keyboard shortcut made it a lot more compelling + the blue light feature. Also seeing the difference in the blacks between the two monitors (I normally can't stand(!) IPS greyish blacks) was great. I'd love to see a 1440p 25"-27" with this kind of contrast ratio so that I could run 3 of them daisy chained + KVM between my work laptop and home PC, while not hating the black levels :). (I'm assuming even if I had DSC / DP 1.4, I still wouldn't be able to drive 3 of these at 4K off a single cable .... and it would be a lot of expense to try only to find out it didn't work!)
You're welcome! Just posted a new video on the U3223QZ 4K IPS black video conferencing display, where I demo using KVM via the OSD. th-cam.com/video/Dh5nNickH2I/w-d-xo.html go to minute mark 43:59. Demo: Two PC’s sharing the U3223QE - Auto KVM, PnP/PbP (Picture-in-Picture/Picture-by-Picture).
Michael, I have a question for you and I understand that I am to be able to use two Dell P2723QE monitors together with out a dock. I am confuse as I can not get this to work. I have an older Latitude 5310 that I can make the monitors work with using the USB-C port and HDMI port on the laptop, but that is using two cables. How do I make this work with the hub and one USB-C cable connecting to the laptop?
I bought this monitor today, I set it up and I've been experiencing coil whine issue for about six hour now. I tried changing the cable, the power outlet, and even the computer, but it didn't fix the problem. I can hear the noise even without connecting the monitor to the computer. Does this noise always occur during the initial setup? Will it decrease over time? Do you think I should return it?
Can the USB-C upstream port be used to daisy chain to a second monitor via USB-C? (Rathert than say to a camera.) I prefer using the more slender USB-C cables versus the display port. Are these Thunderbolt4 ports or regular USB-C ports? Thanks.
I bought 3 of these monitors and have them daisy chained together. I also bought that soundbar you demoed and a webcam. The soundbar and the webcam work if I hook up to the monitor that is connected to the computer. If I hook up to any other monitors though, it does not work. Is this possible to do?
Great monitor and review. I want to connect 2 PC's to mine...no MAC's, no laptops or cellphone charging, just 2 desktop PC's. I have Nvidia cards on both of them so I would like to connect via HDMI or displayport but every post I've seen is about usb c connections, laptop or Mac connections. How would you suggest the configuration I have in mind or is it possible. I played around with the onscreen toggle but cant get it to work.
Thanks @hunn89 ! I believe you should be able to get this to work. Have one of your PC's connect with the HDMI port and then connect that same PC to the USB-C upstream port (you can use a USB-A to USB-C cable). Connect your second PC to the full size DisplayPort (in) port and connect the PC to the USB-C port (data video). Again you can use a USB-A to USB-C cable. Then I would download Dell Display Manager. They will make it easy to jump from each PC. Hope this helps.
@@MichaelOHanian I replaced a U2412m that I've had over 10 years that STILL is a solid product that I used daily. When I lived in Austin Tx, I worked with a lot of Dell vendors as well as a Dell outlet store that you probably know about which I bought Dell computers from regularly and referred many of my clients all over. Good product, good CS, and obviously in touch with their market.
Does the NEW version of the Dell display manager run on any PC? I want to use one of these monitors on a custom built video editing PC as well as a custom built office PC.
@@MichaelOHanian Excellent! i just bought this monitor today and very excited to try the DDM. any further info when the new version will be available??
Hi Michael, I think at 26:45 the picture points to the wrong DP for daisy chaining. It should be the DP out like you stated, which would be the port to the right of USB C (one with orange cap out of box). I have the same setup you have in this video - u2720q and u2723qe and I tried daisy chaining with my MacBook pro M1 chip and the two monitors only mirror each other. Macbook doesnt even pick up the 2nd monitor. Is this a MacBook issue? Or can I somehow find and extend the 2nd monitor?
Hi @kevins5350. Thank you for choosing Dell! You are correct, I pointed to the in port not the out port on the other side. As for the MacBook Pro M1/M2, they don't support MST that allows you to daisy chain the displays. I have read a few post by people claiming they can get it to work, but if they are they are finding away to hack around it. There are some wonderful features to the M1/M2 design and I love the competition they bring to the industry. However, the M1/M2 have some deficiencies with Native dual display and MST daisy chaining.
Which ports are always on, and which are sync'ed to the monitor (on when the monitor is on, off when the monitor is off). I have accessories that I would like to sync to the monitor but they stay on all the time. Thanks. (I just got this monitor yesterday. Beautiful picture, and great connectivity as you said. Little clutter on the desk now.)
Thank you for choosing Dell! There are two powered USB ports are on the right hand side of the display on the bottom. Only ports that are in a different location than the other ports. It is a USB-A and USB-C powered ports.
@@MichaelOHanian When you said "powered ports" did you mean that they are always on, or on only when the monitor is on? From left to right I see these connectors: 1. HDMI, 2. DisplayPort, 3. USB-C, 4. DP, 5. Audio, 6.USB-C, 7-10. USB-A, 1. RJ45, 12. USB-A, 13. USB-C. Currently I am using 3 (USB-C) and 7-9 (USB-A). The accessories work fine except that they don't go to sleep after a long idle time.

Michael, do you have any advice on where I might see one of these monitors in person? I live in the Dallas TX. area and you would think in a city this size I could find a place to go and see one being demonstrated, but I have had no luck and I just don’t enjoy purchasing things sight unseen. Thanks.
Hi Scott. Sorry, I have been behind in responding to comments. If you want to DM on LinkedIn I can see if the local Dell rep in Dallas can show you one.
Fantastic video! Learned a lot. Using an XPS 15 (9510), the only true letdown with this display is lack of 130w power to my XPS. Everytime I try to plug in, I get a "slow charging" notification and my XPS will begin throttling everything due to the poor power connection. Dell is the only company with their own "special" USB-C PD @ 130w connector, and they didn't even put it in their latest hub display. It's likely that I'll now have to pick up a WD22TBS in order to keep from hauling my charging brick around. Am I missing something or is there a workaround to this? I'd love to not have to throw down another $500 for ANOTHER docking station. Again, GREAT video and thank you for this!
I feel your frustration. I am a Mobile Precision user and run into the same wattage issue. When it come our displays we try not use any proprietary technology so that they work with anyone's systems. The USB-C limitation is ~100W. There is a new industry standard USB-C coming out that will support higher wattage (2023'ish timeframe). No real work around for you issue. One thing I do, but is not supported, but I have done, is plugging my Precision into the display and also plug an AC adapter into it as well. Double charging. Again, not supported but it works for me.
@@MichaelOHanian Wow I really appreciate the response! Your comment makes a lot of sense and I do look forward to the next gen of USB4/Thunderbolt. The whole this is very much a "first world problem", but your explanation really helped so thank you. One other question: what's the best way to calibrate this monitor? I can definitely tell the colors are off, but I do not own a calibration tool or anything to confirm. Is there a good resource I can take a look at that would really help guide me through that calibration process? Once again, thank you! Love the videos and keep them coming. Very detailed.
@basementBartender Looks like you can. See page 40 of the users guide. dl.dell.com/content/manual12109242-dell-u2723qe-monitor-user-s-guide.pdf?language=en-us You need to make sure the computer you are hooking up to the display support DP1.2 with MST. Technically you can push 3 displays via MST but I recommend stopping at 2. It is an "art & science" to getting it to work.
This is the most informative video. Thanks. QUESTION to Mike O'Hanian. I have a similar setup with one tweak. I have two XPS 13 (Personal and Work Laptops) and two QE monitors. I want to use both laptops in a dual monitor setup with KVM. That is, when I am at work, I want a dual monitor daisy-chained with a keyboard and mouse. When I toggle to personal, I want the same setup: two monitors, KB, and Mouse. Can I do that?
@ramr9348 You can do this. Only issue you will have is one of the XPS13's will need to use it's own power supply and you will need to run a video cable & USB cable to the display.
Hi Michael, I have a Macbook pro M1 chip connected to u2723qe via USB C and an Asus zephyrus laptop connected to same monitor via HDMI. When I place the MacBook to sleep and turn on the Asus it doesn't switch to HDMI automatically. I have to switch to HDMI manually using the button on the back of the monitor. Do you know why this is? I also have the u2720q and I never had this issue. The old monitor would use HDMI when I turn on my Asus and use Usb c when using my MacBook with no problem.
I have this monitor and I love it. but for some reason, the ethernet and other hub ports are not working. Just updated the firmware and no hope! KVM is working and I connected a Windows and a Mac via USB-C and HDMI. Still and both work great. But LAN and USB next to it + USB A and USBC in the front didn't work since purchase :/
I am hoping someone can help me regarding this monitor. I recently bought one that I either have to keep or return tomorrow. I like the monitor except for one issue that is driving me mad....the reflections handling...I upgraded to this from an old 1080p Samsung BX2440 monitor that was purely matte and has virtually no reflections as do my HP work monitors. With the Dell U2723QE whenever I have a black background which I have in most applications/programs i.e. Chrome, File Explorers etc. I can always see heaps of glare, shine, reflections everywhere which is very hard to keep looking at. I don't know why Dell made such a nice feature rich monitor with IPS black but very poor reflections handling...? Do all 4k monitors business monitors have semi-glossy panels? Is that the trade-off for wanting to work at a 4k resolution? For viewing videos in 4k on TH-cam the monitor is great but for day to day work the reflections are almost unbearable...Can anyone else using this monitor give their views on this please and if it is fixable...?
Hello Mike, I am only able to set up one shortcut key to toggle from computers on my personal computer however my work computer the “shortcut key” function does not work, is that typical? Thank you so much for all you videos they are greatly appreciated.
I currently have a three monitor setup using a Dell Precision 7730 with 64 GB RAM with NVIDIA Quadro P5200 with 16GB. The second and third monitors are both Dell Ultrasharp U2718Q 4K IPS monitors. They are driven by one USB-C cable using a Dell D6000 Universal dock. My plan it to leave the current setup "as-is" and connect my new Dell P2723QE monitor using an additional USB-C connector from the laptop to the new monitor. Will this work?
If I understand the question correctly you are wanting to daisy-chain the U2718Q off the P2723QE. If that is the case, you will not be able to push the 4K to the U2718Q through the P2723QE. You can push 1 4K at 30Hz. If you had a 12th Gen Intel Processor you would be able to get 1 4K at 60Hz.
@@MichaelOHanian thanks for the response. I went ahead and returned the hub monitor and am staying with my D6000 setup with my two external 4K monitors at 60Hz.
This was the most informative review about this monitor for me on youtube. Thank you for clearly demonstrating the daisy chain and DDM functionality.
@benhaze1010 Thank you!
This is one of the best videos I've seen. The video provided answers to all my questions regarding this monitor. I was glued to the content, I can't believe how outstanding the information and descriptions were. Simply amazing! Thank you so much!
I have mine on order and I'm really glad that you ran through the KVM feature as that looks very compelling to use.
Ryan, Thank you for choosing Dell! I am sad, I had to send the U2723QE back to Dell headquarters today. Please enjoy yours, I am jealous.
I have this monitor and it’s wonderful. The IPS Black feature makes a significant difference especially when viewing blacks side by side with the previous model I have next to it (U2027Q)
Hello what is the year of manufacture of your screen 2021 or 2022.
Great job!
@Nateman1979 Thank you for choosing Dell! Right now this is the same setup I am using for work. You are going to love them!
I downloaded the
DMM program on both machines to set up the KVM.
@@MichaelOHanian Just wanted to reply and say that I got the 32” and I am really liking it! Thanks again for the video and your advice.

@@MichaelOHanian my pleasure
I have this setup, both monitor and sound bar, and for anyone having problems for hub to work (that includes external speakers), just find USB to USB-C cable (one of the options) and push USBC into monitor, into central USBC port, then other side. USB, into any port on back of your computer (I have desktop computer). Works like a charm. I couldn't understand why my dell speaker bar didn't work. One more time - Great review and a lot of extra good info! Thank you
Best review I've seen, just purchased this monitor right after. Thank you!

Please keep up the good work
Thank you! I have some more coming in the next next month. There is an updated version of the U2723QE that I am going to review.
Thank you for this review Michael! In my opinion this is honestly best office display out there on the market.
Thank you! And I agree. Well, within it's price range. Could spend a couple thousand or more an jump a level but that is a very specialized field. I am using the U2723QE as my work display now. Love it!

Great product and presentation. More info on the Mac side would be appreciated, especially as it relates to scaling.
I would like to hear more on this as well. So far what I have researched on a 27" monitor is best to stick to either 5k or QHD 1440 so 4k is just not a good option. Unless the screen can scale for the computer?

Thank you! I will see if I can get my hands on both of them. Starting to see a trend in demand for 16:10 aspect ratio.

Speaking about Black IPS, how can the light be more focus for each pixel individually if the back light is coming from the edge? Is there 2 layers of LCD? The normal RGB one and another one behind to pre-filter the light? Content about this is hard to find.
Extremely helpful, thank you.

I miss the U2723QE.
thanks for the information with amazing walk through
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for hitting all scenarios!
Thanks.
Excellent info! Thank you for sharing this information!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Port description is clear as mud.
LOL. I hear ya. When setting up displays I have to pull up the port labeling to guide me.

Thank you! The U2723QE is compatible (the U3223QE is not, too big). If you are looking at stands the MDA20 is also a good choice.
Great video! Thanks. I like the pbp mode alot. What is the little black box that comes out of your personal labtop? It's a hub .... yes? Your labtob is a usb-c device and you need the HDMI/DP and a USB port to plug into the monitor? Is that about right maybee?

Thank you, it's such a good and informative video.
btw, I wonder if I can connect a PC to this monitor with my old 'usb-c to HDMI' cable, so that HDMI side will be connected to PC, and the usb-c side will be connected to the monitor?
Glad I could help
I think MST / dual extended monitor that is briefly explained here is s bit wrong?? the last monitor connected as DisplayPort out should be on the far right side?
Outstanding review; thank you so much!
Thank you! I have been using the U2723QZ for my work display for a few months now.
Very nice set up and narration 🏆
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much for explaining
Thank u so much! Are u still using this monitor? And are u happy with it?
@azer.kafkasli You're welcome! Did use two for the U2723QE's from my work setup for a month. I loved that set up, might be my favorite setup. Definitely in my top 5. IPS Black is real. It is hard to move off of and IPS Black display. Note: I switch displays every month so I know what it like to work with them.
thank you a lot
How do you set the shortcut to switch computers? Great video. Thanks.
Thank you!
Hi Michael,
I have two U3223QE Displays.
Does Daisy chain works only with “DP to DP” cable between the two monitors or it can also work with “USB-C to USB-C” cable between the two monitors?
See page 48. You have to DP to DP on daisy chaining. dl.dell.com/content/manual12003775-dell-u3223qe-monitor-user-s-guide.pdf?language=en-us
Hi Michael. I really appreciated your video 👍. I’d like to know if PiP & PbP can be enabled having one monitor connected through USB-C (Primary) and another one connected through HDMI (Secondary). Is this setup supported on U2723QE?
Great question. You can.
@@MichaelOHanian Thanks.
I have a question regarding the KVM functionality:
My setup:
- Three Dell U2723QE monitors
- One laptop HP EliteBook 840 G8 (1 x HDMI and 2 x TB4)
- One desktop custom build (2 x DP and 1 x HDMI)
The laptop is connected via 1 x HDMI and 2 x USB-C and the desktop is connected via 2 x DP and 2 x USB-C-A and 1 x HDMI to the screens.
You running MAC or lynx on the second system?
@@MichaelOHanian The laptop is running Windows 10, the desktop is running Archlinux. I don't see how that should have anything to do with the screens automatically chosing the (only active) input source. It seems to be a hardware related issue.
@@keineahnung4227 I was going to say, that using Dell Display Manager will make it easer to to configure, however DDM does not support Archlinux.

@@MichaelOHanian You will love it! :)
@@MichaelOHaniancan we use 2 laptops or only one laptop and one PC. ?
@@kukush1071 you can connect 2 laptops. However, the second laptop will have to have a display connection to the monitor, a USB upstream cable and finally the notebook will have to be plugged into power.
Thanks so much for this! I thought my monitor didn't work!
Hi. I wanted to know if the monitor could support a USB thunderbolt dock/hub? Or HDMI dock? Connected via the downstream USB ports?
Second question: I have the second laptop hook up to the monitor via HDMI port and the USB-C upstream port (the latter to take advantage of KVM). For the latter, can I link this second laptop via one of the USB-A ports (instead of the USB-C)?
You have to use the USB-C upstream port. You can use a USB-A to USB-C cable to do this, if you don't have USB-C port on your notebook.
best review.
Thank you!
On the U2723QE you can only use the DisplayPort out.
How about a USB-A to USB-C, in the event that I do not have a USB-C port on my 2nd computer
where I live the U2723QE is a pretty pricey investment for this, which is why I am asking so many questions!
@@MichaelOHanian I appreciate this! Thanks a lot!
Thank you! Yes. You can step down resolution when daisy chaining.
In my opinion, QD-OLED has some of the best promises.
@@MichaelOHanian Especially when they begin to use fluorophosphorescent subpixels for extra longevity + brightness, and sort out their arrangement for better text and fine detail clarity! @@MichaelOHanian yes, I used the usb-c to connect to my MacBook Pro!
You can daisy chain the S2723DS from the U2723QE. Note, in the display menu you will need to enable "MST" and set USB-C Prioritization to High Resolution.
Great Review!! Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for choosing Dell! DSC is found in the new Intel 12th Gen processors. If you have anything earlier than that, it does not support DSC.
And thank you Michael for making these videos, much appreciated sir! :)
Thank you. A lot of your questions can be answered here: www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000060112/what-is-dell-display-manager . PbP you have up to 4 options 1. Side-by-side, 2.

Thank you very much!
Michael,
I have a question for you and I understand that I am to be able to use two Dell P2723QE monitors together with out a dock. I am confuse as I can not get this to work. I have an older Latitude 5310 that I can make the monitors work with using the USB-C port and HDMI port on the laptop, but that is using two cables. How do I make this work with the hub and one USB-C cable connecting to the laptop?
@ricanhorn811 Unfortunately the P2723QE does not support Daisy Chaining. The U2723QE has that capability.
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I would return it or make a warranty claim. It does have a 3 year advanced exchange warranty.
Can the USB-C upstream port be used to daisy chain to a second monitor via USB-C? (Rathert than say to a camera.) I prefer using the more slender USB-C cables versus the display port. Are these Thunderbolt4 ports or regular USB-C ports? Thanks.
There is another USB-C downstream port on the U2723QE that you can use.
Thanks. I'll get to set things up this weekend!

Can I use 2 computers AND daisy chain a second (or even a third monitor at lower resolutions) that will switch with the KVM?
@basementBartender Looks like you can. See page 40 of the users guide. dl.dell.com/content/manual12109242-dell-u2723qe-monitor-user-s-guide.pdf?language=en-us You need to make sure the computer you are hooking up to the display support DP1.2 with MST. Technically you can push 3 displays via MST but I recommend stopping at 2. It is an "art & science" to getting it to work.
Very good! Thank you!
Can you use usb-c just for display without charging?
You can.
Sorry to hear you having issues. Give a call to Dell support, the display has a 3 year advanced exchange warranty.
@@MichaelOHanian thanks. I live in Saudi Arabia? Any suggestions?
Are you using Dell Display Manager?
