  • Steven William Prestwich (5 March 1954 - 16 January 2011)
Born in Liverpool, England in 1954. Steven's family relocated to Elizabeth East, South Australia in 1971 when he was 17. He was a member of Elizabeth band, Ice, with bassist Michael Smith, later of Scandal, and guitarist John Pryer from 1971 to 1973.
In 1973, he was the founding drummer for heavy metal group, Orange, with the line-up of Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Don Walker and Leszek Kaczmarek. Orange evolved into Cold Chisel in 1974 and a year later, Kaczmarek was replaced by Phil Small. Steve remained a member until early 1983 and during his time in Cold Chisel, he wrote "When the War Is Over" and "Forever Now". Both songs appeared on the 1982 album Circus Animals. He co-wrote with Don Walker the song Flame Trees from the 1984 album Twentieth Century. He briefly rejoined Cold Chisel for their Last Stand Tour from October to December 1983.
From 1984 to 1986 Steve was the drummer in the Little River Band. He toured the United States and released two albums with LRB. Little River Band recorded a version of "When the War is Over" with John Farnham on vocals. Steve rejoined Cold Chisel in later reformations.
Steve released his first solo album, Since You've Been Gone in August 2000, which he also produced. His second album, Every Highway was released in October 2009.
Steve was the father of a daughter, Melody, and a son, Vaughan.
Steve died at the Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney after not regaining consciousness following brain surgery to remove a tumour diagnosed less than two weeks before. He was 56.
Cold Chisel singer Jimmy Barnes later planted a flame tree in Steve's memory at the National Arboretum Canberra

I always enjoy the education that you provide with your videos. I was raised in Salisbury North but worked and shopped in Elizabeth so I like learning about the area.

Wonderful Dedrie. Thank you. I will be covering Salisbury at some point in a "Before Elizabeth" set of videos. Only seems appropriate given Elizabeth and Salisbury once shared the same Council and are basically cousins really. Thank you fro the nice feedback, appreciate it. 🙏🍷

@@elizabeththatwas Oh, I will be looking forward to seeing them. Thank you for reminding us how wonderful our areas were, giving us a walk down memory lane and to share how much they have changed too. The 2 suburbs use to be rivals many years ago which I never understood.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, left and gone back several times, now living in the Mid North, its great to see all the old places and things how they use to be, a shame to see a lot of things gone only to be replaced by what i see as crap. Will always be proud to call Elizabeth my birth place, as they say, you can take the boy out of Elizabeth, but you cant take the Elizabethen outta the boy, keep up with the great clips.

Elizabeth may have been a place with not much going on but great things can come about by being bored you start to use your imagination and take up things like music and with not many distractions those who grew up there could only get better therefore killing most of the boredom and creating something that can last a lifetime most of the best music from around the world came from the working classes and not prestigious ivory tower music colleges/schools who (no disrespect)but aren't or never were the only way of doing something worthwhile musically Steve along with his other band mates from cold chisel proved that
