I’ve had mine for about five weeks now and love it. It eats all kinds of ammo, from cheap aluminum Wolf to hollow points, without a problem. I have 500 rounds through it so far. Love the grip angle/feel better than my G19. Like the large slide release too. Can’t believe it was only $299.00. I put a light in it and will use it as a dedicated home defense gun. I usually carry my G43X for EDC
I've had my sd9ve for 7 or 8 years. No malfunction that wasn't ammo or element related. Great trainer pistol. Added an apex trigger. Very nice trigger pull now. Might pick one of these up. Great video. 👍
These SDs and ruger security 9s and maxx 9s are litterly the best reliable and well made bang for the buck you will find and american made, beats and hi point, taurus ,keltec, or sccy , or any budget gun brands, M&P also , but the rugers and these sd you can find around $300 or less thats half the price of brand new glock with same reliabilty and durability, you can beat em, MPs are better imo but are gonna run u around 500 + still cheaper than glock and beats glock wich i love imo with reliabilty, ergonomics, and overall aesthetics
My girl has a security 9 and I’m desperately trying to get her to get rid of it because of how unreliable it is. It’s her first gun and she’s sentimental so I’m not having any luck. Light strikes and locking back with rounds still in the mag are the most common malfunctions, though it’s had some FTE’s as well. It’s the only gun I expect to malfunction when we go to the range. Nice to see yours has been reliable so far. I’m a big fan of SW’s, I have a 2.0 compact and a shield plus, but both of them had a malfunction in the first ~100 rounds. They have been perfect ever since though. The only handguns I own that have had zero malfunctions so far are my APX A1 and a used Gen 4 G26.
@NJLev ive shot the security 9 n the compact with no issues it could be the guide rod rod or spings ive heard some say ive owned 6 rugers mostly p series ec9s and 1911 and never had issues mp and glock are my edc but rugers are well made guns
Fantastic series of pistols. They are extremely reliable and feel fantastic to shoot. Plus, the finger placement molding is really fantastic, and everyone that shoots it makes a note of it to me
You are an adult who knew the deal up front. No one is ripping you off. You want another mag, buy it. Thats the deal to market it at that price. 101 stuff. Take it or leave it, rather than whine about it. If SW raised the price to cover 2 mags for an economy beginners market that may not need 2 mags, would you complain about that too? The more people that get into this market, the better for all of us. Maybe they wont vote poorly.
I love my SD9ve it was good out the box but it's great with just a few modifications like the Apex trigger kit and a few other things, these guns are cheap and great to modify you can get anything for them.
Low price does not mean low quality. It means manufacturers are responding to competitive pressure. They all have injection molding machines and CNC machines. There is no reason for one polymer framed, striker fired handgun to cost more than any other. The days of hand fitting, high polish bluing are long gone. Today's guns use injection molded frames, CNC machined slides and stamped parts. There is no reason (no _real_ reason) for a Glock or FN to cost more than a Canik, Taurus, PSA ...or a S&W SD9.
It really depends. Some companies are definitely more fair than others.... and some are just greedy. It costs Glock $40 to make a gun (every single cost accounted for), but they have to make 1000%+ profit on them, so they sell for over $400/each. There are guns that only cost $20.00 each too though, because they use cheaper steel, they MIM or stamped parts instead of machined parts... they use an inexpensive or crappy finish compared to a more expensive, more durable finish... etc... etc... It's a lot to consider... but in the end, you're mostly right. Even if there's a $20 difference in cost to manufacture, then why does there have to be a $300 difference in price range? Some companies can be even worse too. There's a reason that we always find out that it's the gun companies that are always lobbying for more gun laws. If everyone could just make guns, then honest people would be producing them and selling them for a fair price and it would be the end of their price gouging. Silencer companies are usually the same way too. It costs them like $5-$10 to make a silencer, but then they sell them for $100s. I always wondered what red dots cost too... because I highly doubt they cost anywhere near what the charge for them. I think it's insane that people pay $400+ for an optic, or even $200+. I wish I had that kind of money, but I'm not sure that I could justify paying that much regardless. I guess people that spend that kind of money do fuel the technology though.
Got one and the grip actually feels very good, fired around 250 rounds with zero issues. I did paint the front sight dot bright orange and is now a good self-defense gun or truck gun. I think even S&W are starting to listen to their customers especially in this economy.
Just got one yesterday at Sports Academy for $299 i cant wait to try it out at the range. I'm also glad i still had 2 magazines from my old SD9VE since the price for each magazine is now $40+ taxes.
I understand for people who aren't mechanically inclined the trigger upgrade is probably the nice feature in the new model. Honestly the only thing that I really liked about this over the last generation is the top of the slide with the serrations grooved into it for anti-glare properties. The front and rear slide serrations really are more cosmetics than functional, maybe they give you a little more grip but it looks negligible. I own an SD40VE and I'm getting a crisp 4.5 lb trigger pull with no creep, grit or stryker safety hump. A little take up a wall and a crisp clean break. I went with the Apex trigger duty carry kit and polished all of the contact points within the trigger group. I also opted for the Apex ultimate striker plumger and spring (polished that also). The only spring I omitted from the Apex kit was the trigger return spring I went with an M&P 2.0 unit. That brought my trigger weight right where it needed to be and provided a positive tactile reset that is also audible. Only drawback is the engineered in longer reset. I did shorten it some but if I could shorten it just a tad more it would be ideal. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast and I think I've taken this as far as I can go, and I'm actually quite happy with it it's become one of my favorites.
If you do a little polishing in the right places and just get an apex spring kit that will be really nice. No need to change out the trigger that's already done. At least after 30 years they finally got rid of that horrid hinged trigger.
The local cops told me that if I shoot someone in total self defense they will take my gun and won't give it back. So why not have a reliable cheap gun compared to others. I now have placed my high dollar Sig in the safe, and have this jewel for self defense. By the way. I got mine for $289 plus tax and shipping. What a deal. Included a $10 off coupon. Where I got it? It rhymes with Buddie.... what a deal...
To answer the question, not necessarily. It's relatve to manufacturer. We both know this community has a high school dynamic. The cool kids would disagree regarding the price. I've never owned one, but wouldn't speak against it for the exact same reason. Thanks 👍🏽🤠
I had the SD40 with the hinged trigger and it was great for the price, trigger was horrible but tolerable. I ended up getting a deal on a Gen 5 G23 and sold it but if your on a budget it’s hard to go wrong and the flat trigger on the M&Ps are awesome.
I have the SD9VE that I installed the Apex flat trigger and spring kit in, From the video it looks like the trigger on the 2.0 is very similar to the results of adding the Apex to the earlier version. Would like to see a side by side comparison.
I'm not sure if S&W will make an optics ready version or not since this is their economy style pistol. Only 1 magazine and no extra grip inserts. It reminds me of the Ruger SR9-E.
The m&p is more expensive and it's a bigger pistol. There's the difference. The m&p is more for duty where the SD line is more for concealed carry personal defense. I own both and I carry the SD a hell of a lot more than I carry the m&p simply because of those reasons. The SD has a shorter slide and grip. And with one in the pipe in my 40 I'm still getting 15 rounds.
I own 2 SW’s, both of them came with a magazine the gun refused to lock open with initially. On my 2.0, I accidentally dropped the mag on the floor and it magically started locking back. With my shield plus, after 1 visit to the range it started locking back. I agree, strange.
Does that go for the Equalizer as well? My girl who has carpal tunnel loved it in the gun store. The Security 9 is pretty easy to rack but the one we have has not been reliable. A lot of others swear by them though, very possible ours just so happens to be a lemon. The M&P compact 2.0 is also relatively easy and smooth to rack. Out of *my* handguns, she likes this one the best because she can actually operate it, something she has difficulty with on my other 9’s. Also has 4 back straps to accommodate different sized hands.
Exactly.. There's virtually nothing different between the two besides the trigger. Makes no sense to buy this if you can get an older SD/VE for less. You also get two mags..
All pistols should have 2mags that has stopped me from purchasing guns if it's cost more money charge more or just lose the sell. There's other guns out there as good or better
