I bought a S&W SD9VE in December 2022. Replaced The Guide rod with a stainless steel guide rod and a stainless steel slide lock/take down Tab. Upgrade parts found at NDZ Performance. I also upgraded to a Apex Trigger. I love it the way it shoots now. No problems at all.
Dead on reliable. I wasn't planning on replacing trigger springs but was given new springs. For me the gun got more accurate with new springs. This was my first polymer gun and I really like it and it's much better looking than a Glock.
@@BlueMagicONISUPERNOVA It depends. It is easy, but I recommend watching videos online and getting comfortable before doing it. You have to be careful with power tools though. If you run the tool too fast, you use too small polishing wheels and/or you stay in one place too long, you can make divots that look really bad. Having very flat polishing blocks can be a big help also. When polishing gun parts, you usually don't want to use sandpaper (not even the finest) and you don't want to use a type of polish that removes material (which is why so many prefer Flitz)... but when polishing the outside of a slide, there are no "working dimensions" or "working surfaces", so they should be okay to use (and can make things a little easier or faster). I wouldn't be surprised if there were videos showing how to specifically polish an SD9 slide. A lot of people do it, so there may be videos on how.

Back in 1995 I bought my first gun, it was the SW40F the original Sigma. I still have it in my safe. It has been a great gun over the years, people complain about the trigger but mine brakes right at 7lbs. I also have the SW40VE which is the second generation of the Sigma. The trigger on that one also brakes around 7lbs. The SW99 is also a great gun with a much better trigger. It has become one of my favorites all SW polymer pistols. And the SD9VE that I keep next to my bed, is an excellent gun. I got is used with the apex trigger installed so I can't tell how good or bad the original trigger was. I think the SD9VE has been the best $200 I have spent on a firearm!
I had one in 40, biggest piece of junk I ever bought. Done everything right with it cleaning and everything it jammed all the time and the trigger hinge pin kept working out. None of my other 40 cals have any problems.
I just got one a good used one the trigger does suck I will be upgrading it little by little even though I have better ones I like that one😅 one of the mags that tip was bent that prevented from feeding I bended it back and it works .
Yes the SD9VE is as good as the Glock, if not better when one considers the 'for the money' price/value and the superior hand grip and point to shoot characteristics. IMHO
Agreed as well. Currently own both. Knock on wood but after a few thousand rounds my sd9ve is one of the few guns that has never had a single malfunction. My Glock has had a handful of them
I just love the looks and feel of the SD9VE in my hand. It's perfect for my hand size. I wish it was a DA/SA setup for a better trigger pull on follow-up shots. I also had the trigger pin "walk out" a little on mine. I fixed it, and haven't had anymore issues since then. Other than that, it's been a great shooter (once you get used to the heavy trigger pull) and it eats everything I feed it. I'd rate it a 7.5 out of 10.
Great review and it's definitely a great firearm. The 1st gen m& p is also a great reliable option being they can be found priced about the same as the sdve . Really can't go wrong either way. They are both reliable.
$350-$400 new in my area here in southern Indiana. Just 2 years ago, you could pick them up on sale for $275. Used, they have low resale or trade value- $200-$250. I've owned several over the years. I've had great luck with the 9mm and 40sw models.
You ever do any work on the trigger? I'm not sure it could ever be good, but it can be a lot better than what it is stock. Someone in a video I just watched said that the SD9VE 2.0 has the same style sear as the SW9, which is crazy surprising to me, because the SD9 sear makes for a lighter trigger and the SW9 sear is just so heavy and hard (because of its design) that it can't really be made into a good trigger.
@@PapaPalsy You miss my point. I am describing the feeling of pulling the trigger on 2 different guns with different actions. Most striker fired pistols don't have a trigger that feels like a revolver, but this one does. Only the feel, not the mechanics.

Someone said in another video that the SD9 2.0 has the same style of sear as the older Sigma models, but I'm not sure if that's really true or not... because the triggers in the older Sigma models (the SW9, SW9VE, SW40 and SW40VE) were so heavy and long and gritty. I prefer CV-2 grease over all others on sliding parts (like the rails and lugs on the barrel)... but you don't want to use it on a new gun if it's a model that needs to be broken in first. It reduces wear so much that the gun will never break in.
