Great video. Made/assembled in Maryville, Tennessee, at their new headquarters. Welcome to the South, Smith & Wesson. I just bought one for that reason, and I grew up and live about an hour from there. Not a great reason to buy a pistol, but I'm proud they are here. I heard they will be shifting more work to the new facility as they sell down on current inventory. Side note, there was a county officer where they are based that was shot and killed on duty, and the killer got away. The S&W CEO put up a $40k reward, and they caught the monster!
the "grit" on the trigger is primarily from the drop safety. A little bit of CLP worked into it will smooth out the trigger for you. A $300 gun with a flat faced 5.5 lb. trigger with no overtravel, no spongy take-up, and a decent tactile reset is a great deal.
It is a great deal and a reliable choice as I mentioned. The trigger did get a little better after 120 or so rounds. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
I like mine. I had the original back in the 90's. I carry a shield plus and find the triggers close after shooting them back to back. Great for the night stand. That's where mine stay's.
That is precisely what our experience was with this one at the range today as we reported. Whether the older version or this one it has indeed always been reliable and accurate enough to get the job done. With the price point, the other things can just be overlooked in my opinion if a budget, friendly gun is all one can afford to purchase they can’t go wrong with this one for sure. Thanks for watching and for commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you have not already.
I love my sdve40 as well. Give it time and more rounds and the trigger will break in a little better. After about 250 or 300 rounds mine went from a 8 1/2 lb trigger to about a 6 1/2 lb trigger maybe a 7 but it improves
@thepistolguy859 most people that have watched the channel know that I’m not a trigger snob. I will train around a trigger, but the Apex is definitely a worthy upgrade. Thanks for watching and for commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you have not already.
I've commented on several of your videos regarding this pistol. That's due to recently getting one and looking for other opinions on it. Thanks for taking the time to look it over and make a video about it. Which I think you've done it justice. A couple of points no one has brought up. 1) The profile of the front end. While the slide is more beveled, the frame doesn't match. I have no doubt this is a production cost issue. New molds to correct this are expensive and S&W is testing the waters of production cost vs business viability. 2) S&W has recently relocated due to politics. This could have given them the opportunity to make a change that has been sorely needed on this product. 3) I think S&W has finally noticed a segment of the market where they're getting the crap kicked out of them. Thanks again for taking the time to review this pistol, read the comments and respond.
understanding the purpose of these type of guns, the SD40VE and SD9VE the ones before this, the purpose of gun was SD meaning self defense and VE meaning value enhanced to impress a new gun buyer who just wanted something affordable for self defense but a few quality features, adding a apex trigger or mods many did doesn't mean the gun didn't fullfill it's purpose it was designed for as many complained about the trigger being about 8 lbs but felt like 6 lbs, the trigger was heavier having a new shooter in mind so that if they didn't have trigger discipline the trigger wouldn't go off being spooked, so for a new person they are less likely to shoot being spooked but have enough pull so they would do it knowing it's actually time to do so. these guns are not for competative shooting, not for target shooting but defense wich in private citizens terms is with in 10 yards, gun was not made for military and law enforcement either wich in context is very different then the a private citizen who just breaks contact with a threat unlike military and law enforcement who have to make contact to capture or kill like the military or cuff and stuff like law enforcement, the mission drives the gear, the mission of a private citizen is to defend only and not hunt down and chase, exception to the rule is a sheep dog but your not required to risk going to prison for chasing a threat who has retreated running away or driving away in a car, these guns are good for new people as a need it now gun yet good enough for it's intended purpose
As I said it was in every video we did on this pistol. It’s reliable and accurate enough. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
I personally… don’t want a race gun as a self defense pistol… I want a pistol that goes bang .. when I need it to People get hung up on trigger weight… 5 to 8 lbs is good , IF it is predictable… Im happy with stock Glock 6.5 lb triggers .. happy with my triggers on my Daggers .. My Taurus G3X trigger & GX4 triggers are fine… zero problems I wear gloves shooting.. like my glasses and ear protection… One magazine is the deal breaker for me .. not buying ANY new pistol with one mag … if you get a bad mag … your pistol is useless. Whoever made that decision.. has a problem.. not using common sense to save a few cents. Thank you for your review 😊
I’m right there with you on the mag thing. If not for sake of review I wouldn’t have bought it either. Thanks for watching and commenting and be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
The SD 9 2.0 is a nice gun it is will built gun . It is a make over of Glock 19, some call it a budget gun maybe so,but it goes bang when you pull the trigger. The gun is a quality tool for the price, worthy of CCW, the more you practice shooting it.
I have a SD9VE I bought about 6ish years ago, changed out the internal springs with Apex Tactical springs, it helped a bit but what I like is that it's been 100% functional never any fails ...
That’s right it definitely has it shortcomings but it is a budget friendly gun that as you said is completely reliable. Thanks for watching and for commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you have not already.
@natdre4844 Oh my if that’s my options it’s going to be tough. I don’t like any polymer Rugers. I like the Ruger revolvers, 10/22 and a couple other revolvers but I really don’t like Ruger polys at all. However between those 2 it makes it tough. I’d go with the 2.0 because there’s more options to upgrade.
The reduced weight of the original SD9 is noticeable when compared to a similar sized Glock 19 Gen 3. Even when loaded with 16 plus one, the SD9 is much lighter than the G19 hence more felt recoil. When you couple the long heavy trigger pull and the light weight, it's reminiscent of a double action revolver. For me that is an advantage in training trigger discipline and sight alignment on follow up shots.
That’s right and that’s why at the end of the video and at the end of our table top and all of our shorts we said that we could definitely recommend the gun for what it was built for and that is to be an effective tool at a budget friendly price, and it certainly serves that purpose. Thanks for watching and for commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you have not already.
I don’t get that? That’s just nonsense you are spilling because I didn’t have all things great to say about a $300 pistol people want to believe is as good as a $800 one and that’s the simple truth because I literally said many times throughout the video that it was fine and functions great for what it is a cheap budget friendly option. So you wouldn’t have said that we don’t get that if you actually watched the video
I have a SD9VE. I upgrade the Trigger. I also upgraded the Slide Bar and the Slide Take Down Lever to Stainless Steel. I love it. Shooting at 12oz cans 15 yards I don't need SD9 2.0. My upgrades has made my SD9VE fun to shoot. No Malfunctions
I’m glad you have had that good of an experience. It’s not the worst that’s for sure. And upgrading the trigger would be an amazing upgrade in my opinion! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven’t already
I have an SD40 (non-VE) with factory black slide and fiber optic sights. I didn't like the original trigger at all, so I installed the Apex upgrade kit. That made a significant difference. With the trigger upgrade that pistol IS a tack driver. It's impressively accurate. My other pistols are Shadow Systems MR920, Sig P226, P365, Canik TP9, for reference. The SD40 is at least as accurate as all of those.
Out of that list I’d take the p226 and call it a day lol. Nah I really like the Canik, never been a huge fan of the 365 and shadow systems are good just a bit overpriced. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
@@GSquaredTactical I like the P226, but if SHTF I'd grab the MR920. Glock magazine, part, and holster compatibility is worth a lot to me. The gun is everything Glock should've been making 20 years ago. Shadow Systems pistols aren't cheap, but they're cheaper than tricking out a Glock, plus you're paying for that Glock ecosystem.
I own a sdve40 and love it and pretty accurate with it from 30 ft im 95% at a 8inch and at 60ft im 80% at 8inch target. Ive actually used it at a ITP shooting match
Zero grit, not hinged has center safety, breaks at wall so predictable, much better reset and follow ups. Thanks for watching and commenting and be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
I had a Sigma 9C back in the day and I shot the heck out of that gun, and I was good with it. Then I got the SD40VE put a newer trigger and I think the drop safety spring, and night sights. Great trigger pull now. Now it's with my Nephew for a hunting back up.
I bought an SD40 when they first came out. It was reliable and that was about it. I guess compared to other budget pistols it’s not bad, but I sold that gun and never looked back.
Yeah I sold my first one to the SD40VE. This one is for sale as well. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
Thanks for watching. The real smith semi that I feel for was the 10 performance center. The way it handles recoil is just superior. Thanks for the support!
The M&P 2.0 trigger are certainly better than S&W past triggers but amazing isn’t a word I personally would use to describe any of S&W triggers. If you like them then that’s awesome glad they work well for you. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already

I have an SD9VE and a Taurus G3C. I'm definitely a better shot with the G3C. The S&W actually has more felt recoil which is crazy because it's a full size and the G3C isn't much bigger than allot of subcompacts.
I believe the perceived felt recoil is because oddly enough, the S&W seems lighter and not as well-balanced, because during our range video, we mentioned that it felt snappier. Thanks for watching and for commenting, and please be sure to subscribe if you have not already.
I've had an sw9ve for over 20 years and just recently have had a place to shoot regularly. Like you guys said it surprised me how much it hurt my hand in the cold. I like that it's been reliable for 20 years with long periods of not being used, but am definitely looking for something with a little more weight to it. Leaning towards cz
@GSquaredTactical I have noticed that myself. It has a lighter frame and a fairly heavy slide making it feel top heavy. It's still a good quality gun, but it's definitely not my favorite to shoot. I've been subscribed for a quite a while. I really appreciate the unbiased reviews. The 2 of you put out some great content. Keep it up.
Well if it's accurate and it's reliable really what the hell more is there. That gun shoots the same ammo as a 6 or 700.00 Glock. If you need it to defend your life it will do just fine!
Only a clown because I didn’t pet your desire to convince yourself that your $300 pistol is as good or accurate as something you didn’t want to spend the money on like a CZ, H&K, Sig or Glock and that’s a fact. Don’t talk to the community as a whole talk directly to me because I’m the clown you speak of. Just a keyboard pirate hiding behind a screen. If you didn’t like what you saw move on like anyone who doesn’t have a desire to pet their ego by clowning someone else to make them look good. Bye bye now
Hahaha this is to funny!! People always attack when you don’t say all things good about their $300 pistol that they’ve convinced themselves is as good as a $800 pistol and don’t want to hear that someone may not think so. It’s always the cheap ones too. If we would have said it about a H&K, Glock, CZ or Sig you would have probably got on a plane to come pat our backs and tell us how awesome we are. You are the one that made a fool of yourself here.
Heres the point everyone misses. If you ever shoot someone in self defense theyre keeping that pistol so, why carry a $1000+ pistol. It's not the pistol but the operator., as long as it functions.
I have shot thousands of rounds of ammo over 60+ years of shooting. It includes too many to list from steel cased to aluminum and everything in between. Hands down the new republic was the worst and most dangerous ammo I have ever used! Two cases worth and 20% of that squibs and duds. No it was not a gun issue.
@@GSquaredTactical It would seem or maybe I got a bad batch. It was used in a number of different platforms with same result. The price was really good so I wish I had better luck. I found it to be not very accurate as well which I blamed on the inconsistent loadings. Thank you for your input and experiences with it. I might possibly give it another chance just to see. I have found a number of other options at about the same price point so we will see. Thanks again safe shooting.
Now, as far as accuracy would say, there are definitely better options lol can’t really say it is super accurate but we have to get the cheapest we can find for range
I made the mistake of buying this particular pistol. The polymer frame is made of very hard plastic that has a shiny appearance to it. The trigger is really bad. Overall the pistol feels really cheap. It's definitely a low priced 9mm pistol that will serve the purpose for someone who can't or does not want to spend several hundred dollars for something better.

If you didn’t like what you saw move on like anyone who doesn’t have a desire to pet their ego by clowning someone else to make them look good. Bye bye now
this shmuck is a Glock fanboy hardcore lol.
If you would watch our other videos you’d know that’s far from the case, captain shmuck lol
Ok boomer!
Lol
@TTime685 it doesn’t necessarily equate, sometimes for sure. But not always
Heres the point everyone misses. If you ever shoot someone in self defense theyre keeping that pistol so, why carry a $1000+ pistol. It's not the pistol but the operator., as long as it functions.
I didn’t say I carried a 1k pistol but I also don’t carry full sized pistols
I have shot thousands of rounds of ammo over 60+ years of shooting. It includes too many to list from steel cased to aluminum and everything in between. Hands down the new republic was the worst and most dangerous ammo I have ever used! Two cases worth and 20% of that squibs and duds. No it was not a gun issue.
We have been using New Republic exclusively for over a year. Nearly 5k rounds not a single issue to speak of. Guess we are lucky
Absolutely I agree with all of this. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
I got one shoots fine doesnt jam. Shot 200 rounds so far
Yeah it shoots without issue for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already
