BOURNEMOUTH HALF 2024 - EDDBUD RACE RECAP - PUMA DEVIATE NITRO ELITE 3
I travelled travelled to DORSET for the BOURNEMOUTH HALF MARATHON 2024 to test out the PUMA DEVIATE NITRO ELITE 3 on a road race!
Find out how i got on and my thoughts on the race route along with my analysis of the shoes.
A little way off my best time here but still a good hard consistent run and certainly building some strength and fitness.
A good ace route with excellent facilities and organisation. Highly recommended to all runners!
This is a shoe sent to me by PUMA for testing, though they are not paying me to make this video nor will they be vetting my views before you see them.
Hold tight people, stay strong and we WILL make it through.
Keep it nice in the comments please, i do not do unpleasant, its just ..... unpleasant. See you in the digital ones and zeros......

I did my first half marathon on the weekend. I have never run that far without stopping before and I wasn’t sure I could. I had a blast! It was the Royal Victoria Half on the west coast of Canada. 2:16:41 put me in tenth in the 70 to 75 age group and I could not be more delighted. My last three km were my fastest and I sprinted the last 400 meters. Haha, I haven’t felt so alive in ages.
Well done man!
I saw you warming up , so left you alone. I was star struck. Keep up the good work.
Would have been good to meet you Sir 👍🏼
I spit out my drink on that Anakin Skywalker reference!!!
🤣👍🏼
I ran a PB for half marathon in these shoes. The best part of the experience was that they felt like trainers more than the exaggerated super shoes. Thanks edd your video inspired me to buy them. Cheers 🍻
I'm the one running in the Macmillan kit at around 2:03! This was my first half-marathon, and I only found your channel after a fan recognised you running alongside me in one of my photos I'd uploaded onto Tiktok. I have stumbled across a great channel, keep it up :)
That is awesome!
Congratulations EDDBUD..!!! You did it!!!. Here is my Like. Happy monday.
Better luck next time, mate, congrats on the effort! Race-wise I did the Budapest Marathon at the weekend and the Hoka Cielo X1 did not disappoint, what a shoe.
Love the videos Edd - always informative and entertaining. (Musical interludes are always a treat too!) Keep up the great work!
Thanks for tuning in!
Love the bonus feature! I think the squirrel has shoe envy
He was a curious fellow
Ah yes, the hill! Wasn’t expecting that when I ran it last year. Great 1/2, loved running out along the front and along the piers. Sand on the prom was tricky in places! Great run Ed, well done! 👍
Sounds like a tough race. When you said Bournemouth assumed would just be up and down the Prom and only issue the wind. Reminds me of Eastbourne HM one time when they took off us off the Prom up some "slope". And yes always good to see improvements on the metrics on your watch. Anyway onwards and upwards (well not always literally). Still a solid run and every race gives you something to think about for the next one.
Managed my 3rd half marathon in Eindhoven yesterday at the ASML Marathon. Amazing event. The whole city turns out there’s not a stretch of road that doesn’t have supporters on it and there’s a street party just about every 3/4km to keep the spirits up. 2nd best result with a 1:58:54. I’ll take it! Definitely feeling it today.
Few races here where you get such consistent support
@@EDDBUD congrats on your result and the recap was great. Was looking for it popping up in my notifications all day 😁 glad the cats and that puma grip are as reliable as ever
This is the first year since 2014 that I haven't raced either the 10k or half at Bournemouth. It's my PB half course at 1:30:06 back in 2021 but you're right about the hill, that was what killed my pace and definitely led to me just missing out on the magic 90 min milestone. Glad you enjoyed it though, it's always a really well run event and somehow they always manage to get decent weather!
Yeah the last bit was hard going with that issue. Just couldn’t get back to pace till the last bit
Well done! I’d love that time!
I was shaking off a cold I got the week before but I was at the 20km de Paris. Great event, good course and amazing atmosphere. No records broken but a lovely weekend amongst some of the happiest running folk.
I had a bit of a sore throat Saturday. It’s come back today though with a vengeance.
Well done, Edd, great effort.
I passed through the Oxford half then straight up the M40 through the London half on Sunday. Big turnouts for both.
Thanks for the review. I raced on Sunday too and saw you on the course. You were two or three minutes ahead of me heading towards Bournemouth pier as I was getting to Boscombe. I really enjoyed the event, but had to abandon the car due to traffic and had a three mile run to the start - not ideal. Also, I noticed periods where runners were struggling to get over the finish line due to crowding.
Glad I got the bus in. Nice and relaxed early on. 3 miles warm up is no joke!
Coffee BEFORE a HM. There's a man with faith in his bowels!
Doing what I normally do. Never ever had that issue which was weird
Congrats on the effort Ed. Stomach issues are no joke. I took the Deviate Elite for Chicago yesterday as well, even though the second half didn't go well because I also had stomach issues, no issues with the shoes, the ATPU is the real deal. Just wish it was a smidge more stable in the forefoot for me
Superb foam. It’s a big update on the v2
Very well done to you for your performance, some excellent pace there.
I was there too, running and walking as was doing half kilometre splits or thereabouts. . I expect others there may remember me. I am tall and was wearing blue top with dark trousers and sunglasses.
I think I did spot you!
Well done and congratulations!!
Solid work! Hitting a stitch is a killer for a fast time, well done on pushing through
Had to get to the finish somehow
Felicidades Edd! You are a honest runner.
Well done Ed - a great run in spite of the stitch. The course at Bournemouth is a bit frustrating - there's a perfect 10 miles of very runnable seafront between Hengisbury and Poole, yet for some reason the course is restricted to a relatively short section of switch-backs up and down hills 🤷♂️. Still, it was a good day, nice weather, and as a long-time subscriber it was good to see you there 👍
It’s weird they don’t use the longer section of flat runnable area for the race
Good job! Would have been easy to tank it after suffering the stitch. But you got creative and persevered! I figured in the end you’d go with the Pumas. You know what this means? Gotta try again next year!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!! 🎊🍾🎉🎈
Enjoyed the MCR Half this weekend as well. Perfect weather, no wind which is just the best. Blue skies (what Manchester?) happy days. Took 4 mins off my PB too. Great weekend!
Great stuff!
Dankeschön! Well done :))
Congrats Ed!
I've been using the sky paris for my races on your recommendation, ran 39.32 for the 10k and 1.28 at cardiff half recently. Pretty massive pb's in both, really happy with them. Appreciate the content as always
Glad the map are hitting the spot!
I stayed in the same hotel. Not bad for the morning walk to the bus.
Did try to see if I could see you as I was heading towards mile 3 with the other runners ahead coming back the other way.
Decent weather & agree the long slog along the beach front is mentally tough. I had to walk the hill but it came back to me in the last 2 miles.
Looks like the finish line was clear for you. Unfortunately the queue for the medal & tee caused issues with blocking the finish line as I accidentally bumped into people on the line.
Sad to hear about the end. They need to clear the people through a bit quicker by all accounts. Quite a narrow funnel
Well done, especially with such a painful stitch. btw, you’re famous now, you appear on the serious runner’s latest vid! Congratulations!
On the what? No idea what that is
@@EDDBUD not seen the Serious Runner? P*** take running channel. Good laugh!
@@EDDBUD dunno what happened to my reply but go and check it out, it’s a good laugh!
@@EDDBUDfunny guy Serious Runner, Kofuzi has appeared in his videos.
@@Stevenc1984thanks for posting that. I’ve replied three times to that effect and they all disappeared! Maybe this one will too… 🤔
Well done, Edd! It’s a test of mind and body this one, that’s for sure 👍🏻
Hey Ed, still a great effort from your side - keeping it on and being postitive even when things weren´t perfect.
i just bought a pair of Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 - was lucky to find a pair in my size in a local shop - they are also rarely available. I would have loved to try the Deviate Elite, but they are nowhere to be found, also in continental Europe, where I´m living. Seems to be a strategy of many companies now - making the shoes available only in small numbers...
Very few pairs about. No idea why they are so scarce.
Great to hear the overall experience was positive, stitch aside. Was indeed a bit nippy that morning and I felt for those standing in line for ages getting cold as I was running trail with the dog on and around Hengistbury Head and keeping warm.
Looking down start doing some 10k events and maybe half next year so this is one I should do given it’s very local
I enjoyed it in fairness could have done with maybe 30 mins less waiting around
at my age the days of pbs mostly over. you still got time though great job
Kudos Mr Budd, putting in the work ☝️
Let's go, Edd! 🎉🎉🎉
Well done, fantastic effort. 😎🥳🎉
Well done Edd you cat.
Head further East and try the Great South Run in Portsmouth and Southsea.
Dead flat and a quick course with plenty to see and fantastic support. A little late for this year because its this coming Sunday. But give it a thought for 25.
Over and out Captain.
Thanks for the heads up
That elevation profile is wild! Well done, Ed!
Yeah it was all over the shop
Sounds like a tough course Ed! Great job they can’t all be PBs
One of the most popular trainers for Hyrox at the moment which is why stock is hard to come by
Sounds like a great but tough course. We really need to get you on a nice flat circuit for a half.
Few found these parts it seems!
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
Lovin my puma nitro 3s ,gr8 fast shoe
great stuff Edd!
Good work Edd
Well done Ed! Royal Parks Half 9am start was chilly for my thin Aussie skin too 🥶
still a great time! keep pushing🏅💪🏻
Most definitely!
Last weekend, I also ran a half marathon in the same sneakers: PUMA DEVIATE NITRO ELITE 3, in Russia, my result was: 1:22.06
Well done Edd
You seem like a really cool guy. Well done.
I love the ending as well!
That squirrel was trying to tell me something. 🐿️
Congrats on your race! There's another super busy colorway of the DNE3 out now in the US and in Greece, where I'm living this year. Very ugly in my opinion. I just managed to get one of the last orange pairs like yours, though, before they sold out. I'm saving them for the Valencia marathon on Dec. 1.
I did spot that one. Not a pair to be had over here.
That's a solid effort Edd and a very good run! Congrats! 👍I don't think it is a PB course at all. Those uphill and downhill sections are a no no for any realistic PB attempt. I guess that's why even despite your slower time you got such good fitness improvement predictions from your watches and Stryd. The effort was there for sure. Good stuff and you make a good point about availability of the Puma shoes. Not only Puma but other brands don't have sufficient stock of their race day shoes. I don't understand. They spend a lot on marketing, getting the shoes out to influencers and then don't have enough to sell to the running public. In the end you buy what is available if your first choice isn't.
Time to relax in some Adidas Climacool 24's. Looked like an amazing day.
Edd loved the windows alert sting...I did MCR half on the weekend, which was fun but it's like many of the midsized races the organisation is a little bit messy. The course had a couple of worrying moments especially the sign that warning of pot holes. I somehow managed to catching the edge of one have a sore toe, only really became a problem hours after I'd finished.
I ran in the Deviate Nitro 2 non-elite which propelled me to the end in 1:45 and in bad for this old boy but would have loved to be just 1 minute faster..
Whilst there I had a chat with the Puma (and Up& Running) marketing people and they said been some real supply issues, especially with the elites.
Love me some windows 3.11
@@EDDBUD Oooh, 3.11 with networking. An old 10 base-T guy.
@@BillyBobJoeSnr People don’t know how good they have it now!
Great song runaway
Sounds like some tough parts of this event!
Nice one Edd. Double backs, give with one hand then take with the other. Rockin the hoodie. Where's it from? Keep the amazing content coming.
Runr. They do some top stuff
Well done EddBud
Given the stich that is still a respectible time Edd. I have done worse in the summer and had no excuse besides it being a bit warm . still a good run buddy.
Thanks John. It was overall a great experience over the weekend
Hey Ed, great video as usual. I did the Great Eastern half marathon in Peterborough at the weekend and ran in my beloved Saucony Triumph 20s and hit my new pb of 1:39. There is not much life left in these old Saucony Triumph 20s and I'm looking for something similar (I hear to recent interactions of the Triumph are just not the same). Can you recommend something similar?
Lots of cushion in the triumph. Maybe look at the 21 which is similar. The 22 is too soft for me
Pick a flat course next time Edd ;-) Come to the Barcelona Half heheh. Great effort and I liked the course. Very English it looked.
I might just move to Spain. 🤣
@@EDDBUD hahaha I can HIGHLY recommend it. Always great weather (except for august) and beautiful mountains.
Weill done Edd, we did wounder if we'd bump into you, having watched so many of your shoe reviews, but we didn't🤣did cheer you on thou as you turned the bend from coming down the steep hill to the pier, and again going onto b'th pier, and yet again at the finish line, my better half did it, originally the idea was for her to do it in 1.45-8, then I had a change of mind on the morning, and told her flat out 1st 10K, next 5K sit on the benches enjoy the view, last 6K hammer it like your escaping a charging rhino😛odd I know, point being we could put the 16K times together to see how she's doing to get a sub 1;10 at the Great South Run this coming weekend, Bournemouth ended up with her getting a 1;32 so she was happy🏃♂well one small hicup, she ran it at the last min in someone else's name, that had the slowest colored bib
Ran Leeds 10K Abbey Dash on Sun 13/10/24 and got a new PB 40:58 wearing my Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Thankuchen Edd
For the algorithm 👍🏻🙂
I ran Chester metric at the weekend, chose the wrong shoes but got through it...Conwy half next up
Great effort ! The DNE3 size the same as DN3 ? Thaaaanks 🤪
I found the elite a bit more forgiving size wise
@@EDDBUD ok thanks ! My DN3 is EU 44, I go 44 for the elite 3 or 43 you think ?
I absolutely love these shoes! I knocked 5mins 30 off my Marathon PB in Chester a couple of weeks back wearing these beasts! Very comfortable and responsive! Sorry to hear about the stitch 😢 we're you on for a PB if this hadn't happened?
On for a PB at that point so a bit gutted. Just totally wiped out my top gear
@EDDBUD next time pal, next time 💯🎯🏃♂️
I lived on that route for a few years in my youth… lovely to see some old sights. That elevation map looks very wrong to me… uphill in the last few miles???
It’s a slight climb towards the pier
@@EDDBUD not over the last 4 miles as indicated on the elevation chart. it’s all along the seafront and up and down the piers?? The pier is by definition in the sea!!
Have you ever done the Great west run in Exeter? Again very hilly towards the end but its a good atmosphere!
I did hear it’s a little hilly
Excellent effort mate. That is some hill! How was the bling? Many doing the run?
I think about 4,000 ish runners. Much more than I anticipated
🎉🎉🎉🎉
🥇
I almost bought a pair when they first came out, felt I would wait until closer to fall and now you can't find them anywhere.
Edd-I congratulated you earlier on your other video and once again congrats this - 👍. However, do you think it was food during or diet right before the race or maybe the course (could the hill have done it?).
Nah I have the same stuff everyday. No idea where it came from
Sorry about your stitch. You definitely had better weather than I had for Lakes In A Day though 🥶💨🌧️
Yeah the temp was perfect here. Smashed the first two thirds of the race. Just slipped away late on
I recently got a pair of alphaflys and they are SQUEAKING. I saw your post on instagram and you use wd-40 but I was wondering where you put it on the shoe
Around the pods. Don’t use too much. Seemed to get rid of the issue
Try Cardiff half next year Ed!!!!
I’m seriously considering that one.
Start Fitness got some in a few weeks back. I got an alert on the Friday night and I think all the men’s in all sizes had gone within 48 hours
Tough to track down those cats
@@EDDBUD I had them bought 6 mins after getting the notification they were back in stock. It was my 2nd pair (so far) too 😂
I got the women's version of the shoe this August, since they did not have the men's version in my small size. Currently, the online store in the Netherlands has no men's shoes anymore, and even for the women's shoes there are only a few sizes available (even if there are some more colour options). Is there any difference between the men and the women version of the shoe?
Not sure if there is any change in the width etc
👊🏼🤖‼️
Next time ...
🥉
There is no gold standard that can be achieved with the route profile. The sharp climb is definitely a complete killer for me as a heavy runner.
Evening Edd. I got a new PB of 1.53:25 :)
Superb stuff my man 👍🏼👊
Is there a watch which give you hydration levels in race?
Not as far as I’m aware
Hard to find those pumas
Excuse my ignorance of UK geography, but was the Manchester half an option? I just watched a RT video where they said it was flat and fast.
Did that last year and a 6 hour travel compared to a 1 hour.
I reckon the stitch was caused by the £7.50 you had to pay for the bus.
🤣👍🏼
Stitch from the coffee? It's a diuretic. This happens to me
Nah I always have coffee in the mornings.
Hi
🥈
impossible to buy. out of stock everywhere.
Not sure why they aren’t available. It’s weird
Very good effort given those issues. I've only had stitch once in a race and was very luck it hit in a long downhill section so didn't cause much of a problem. Had my first ever senior cross country race over the weekend, which was an experience. It was hilly even for Sheffield ⛰😵💫
Just gave that cover of runaway a listen, banging tune! Have you got it on cassette for Denzil?
I’m sure I saw a couple of frogmen out in the sea. 🏴☠️
