Great review. I enjoyed Ryza 3 but i agree the new characters weren't given enough time to be as interesting as the returning cast.

Each to their own, you do spend a lot of time crafting in these games. I find they're ideal to just unwind, I never get agitated while playing them which is what I need at points.

You dont have to craft things in ryza if you play on normal or easy, at most you'd craft a a few mandatory crafts, or occasionally craft some gears.
Only hard and above difficulty require you to get into crafting system

Ryza 3 is definitely my favorite Ryza, it feels like I'm back to the good old times when each iterations of a game improved on the previous one to finally reach its full potential (or at least close to) with the 3rd entry, like with the Budokai series for exemple.

@@TheKisekiNut I mean, yeah it lacks polish compared to Ryza 2, stuff like the font, the translation, the overall UI being not as good among other things. But beside that, it feels like a big upgrade for the rest. The movements are much better, characters have more personality to them, the story takes us somewhere instead of being "Let's go explore stuff because why not", and finally there is just so much more content.

Ryza 1 is still my favorite. The pacing of new zones for new ingredients for new recipies was continuous, wherein 2 and 3 the 'older zones' were mostly nostalgia bait with maybe 1 or 2 bonus ingredients that you'd get from an upcoming new zone anyway, and very few of the treasures or secrets to find were worth it.

For me it's Ryza 2. The second game improved massively on the first, which was already good. Ryza 3 took a few steps back. I think they wanted to add more in to give it the grand finish but it over encumbered the experience so to speak.

My biggest complaint of Ryza trilogy and sophie 2 is their map, they're often uselessly large and sometimes, its fucking hard to get a specific material unlike old games where each area dropped unique items. Ryza and sophie 2 did this too obviously, but most most maps drop common materials and the unique materials ofteb hidden and in a conspicuous place wtf.

I have to agree that the original 4 characters should have gotten more time. Lent and Tao's stories conclude mostly fine I think and I'm happy for them both. Ryza and Klaudia left a bit to be desired however. They're obviously close friends, but across the 3 games there's so much that implies there might be something more. I really thought they were gonna be travelling together based on their previous conversations, but no. That being said Ryza becoming a mentor like Empel would be a really nice bookend to her character in a sequel.

I'd like to note in case no one else did that apparently Ryza 3 got a different translation team than 1 and 2 for some odd reason... leading to the weird and stiff areas of translation. Now that could have been to cut corners and save money but still something I think should be taken into consideration.

As a fan of the Atelier series, I’ve been pretty disappointed in Ryza 3 so far. The translation is very dry and direct, and the fast travel system is a pain (which multiplies my frustration because we have to do it so much). The random quests are annoying (as you said).I also just generally prefer the combat and synthesis in Sophie. Ryza looks great tho 😅

  • @wendyjones3967
    @wendyjones3967 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree with you about the frequency of the random quests, although I attributed that to the fact that I built each atelier with adventure boosts (like seeing treasure chests on the map). You see the reward for the random quest, so I could avoid it if it wasn't good enough. I chose to complete ones offering skill points (like one I completed for 700sp last night).
Another feature I don't remember seeing in the other games is the little basket icon in the lower right, showing how much room you have left in your basket. Nothing frustrated me more than deciding what to toss when the basket got full.
Edited to add: I appreciated being able to synthesize certain adventure items earlier in the game this time. But a couple of them were used very rarely, and one I haven't used at all.

Seems like there were a few problems with this game, but I'm glad it didn't deter from your experience. I am still not sure if I want to get into Atelier, but maybe I could start with the Marie remake. The one thing that deters me from Ryza is the battle system. It looks like the perfect trigger for motion sickness. I have motion sickness. But I'm happy for everyone else who has a good time with this game. I am still playing Apollo Justice and have to redo an entire section from yesterday because my game crashed while I was in the bathroom. I was almost done with that entire section. I hope you play the other Ace Attorney games too at some point. Since next year you can play the entire mainline series on PC. But still, Ryza looks nice, the crafting looks cool and I just hope you had fun. I still need to solve that case my boy is involved in. Apollo is best boy. And I think you may have a thing for Klaudia. But she is quite pretty, I admit.

    • @TheKisekiNut

I do get motion sickness too (SO5, looking at you), but never had a problem with Ryza 3's battle system. I think because most of the time I'm looking at the menus rather than the battle itself. Marie Remake will be a good start though, first game ever made for the series and apparently quite short.

Your "too much shit in a box" (paraphrasing of course) metaphor is actually how I look at games development as a whole nowadays. I think it applies really well to the gameplay in this series though, especially the alchemy. People seem to think it's very "slick" or w/e in the Ryza series, and sure, it's visually appealing compared to just looking at a base menu or a cauldron tetris interface like previous titles had, but overall it just feels more and more tedious to me. Every new gimmick, every new "feature" is just another layer of tedium.
The same goes for the battle system. Does it feel fast? Sure. Does it look nice? Sure. But a fight in the Secret trilogy actually takes quite a bit longer than a comparable encounter from earlier trilogies... it's just flashier so that the ritalin-addled kiddos won't start looking at something catching the light in their periphery and get distracted or bored. All the extra systems in battle used to "spice it up" just feel like more and more and more tedium weighing it down to me. I miss being able to play with a drink in one hand and not having to babysit extra meaningless bullshit like tactics levels and keys just to deal with random mooks.
I won't start on the detriments I think bloated environs (especially open worlds) have on games.

I have been playing this since the release and haven't complete it (how the hell you complete it in 42 hrs while i at 78hr?!) ands I do like it but I prefer the second one over the third one. I did over-power myself (think i did it within 20 hrs into the game) with having no problem beating the enemies and bosses. With taking the combat and the alchemy from the second, this is the correct thing to do as it is perfect as it is and the exploring the world is still fun to do with the landmark to check out and places to find. All character and new one as well, they are really great, it fit the team really well and their backstory are interesting to learn. With the new addition, the key, I do like the ideas with being help in combat and Alchemy, also creating the key from landmark and enemies. I think i have too many keys but they do have different effect on it which what I love about the keys.
Now there are couple thing i didn't like , first one is the random quest, I'm sorry but who thought this is a good idea. It is get very annoy and the reward can be very rubbish, I did ignore most of the random quest, but i did some of them as it boost the char stat. Next one is multiple place to visits, i just find it too much, I would think 2 or 3 is more enough, not this many.
I am hoping to complete this week or next (i think i am near the end) and see the ending of this grand adventure of Ryza. I will miss this series as I do have a great time playing this trilogy. I will be planning play Atelier Marie remake some point.

So is there a story to be had in this game, would u call it a more easy going light story on the happier side compared to RDR2 and games w death n sadness in it sooo i dont know i only hope and there aint alot of great looking games out there that seems to be more funand on the lighter side of things(of course there are,but then its usually not as good visuals n graphics as in the atalier ryza 3 game)
OH yes i also got the Atelier Ryza 2 game at the same time on a sale so hope i like it(once again i buy without knowing all to much about the game exept it looks great)

I'm enjoying my time with Ryza 3 I'm about 85hrs in and I don't even know how far I'm off from finishing, the amount of content is nuts I keep getting distracted. My only issues other then the ones mentioned is the Text Size isn't great, I'm really not a fan of how the Traits are handled (this is an issue I've had since the 1st Ryza game) and the Switch port seems not to run as well as the other two predecessors this also goes for the visuals. Though I think I'm nitpicking with the last two points. And on a personal note and I might get a lot of hate by saying this; I prefer the older protagonists over Ryza not to say she's bad but I found the bulk of her companions arcs more compelling then hers across all three games.

    • @enzomercier2789
      @enzomercier2789 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't have much experience regarding Atelier games, been introduced with Ryza and proceeded to do the trilogy before going to the Mysterious games (done Sophie, Firis and currently into Lydie&Suelle), and I would say that she's pretty okay.
I preferred Ryza over Sophie by a pretty long shot as she honestly didn't feel like much of a character at all. Firis was pretty funny and had the most compelling character arc of the protagonists I've experienced for now, so I would put her above. And finally Lydie/Sue (especially Sue) are just great, my favorite so far.
So overall I'd rank Ryza on the low-end in the protagonists ranking if I'm trying to think about it.. But she got thicc thighs so she ends up tied for 3rd place in my heart

Always loved the character designs and Ryza herself, but the games themselves landed on the snooze fest side of the scale for me. I wasn't into the crafting and the pacing was slow and tackled very mundane problems on a small, cozy, even rustic scale. Still glad that it sold well, because maybe one of these days I'll get into the crafting system (or they make a variant that works for me) and can have fun time with it. Also, there are never enough good JRPGs around so thicc for the win it is this time.

Im a first time player, i bought it on release and I STILL have not finished it. I believe im only half way through 😂 from watching everyones stuff, i still find myself going, “holy shit i still havent seen that” 🤣 but this dude is a master video gamer, i jst bought a switch at 30 last year so its a matter of perspective and skill. I went in knowing NOTHING. And to me its gonna go down as one of my favorite games.

About 42 hours, similar to the other games. But some people have put in a lot longer because there is admittedly a large amount of side content on offer.

I love Ryza 1, but I think 3 is way to bloated. Atelier Games always have a lot of Dialog, but this Game is just way to much. This Game peaks, when you want to synthesis a specific item and need to gather and craft for this item.
The cast, the world and the amount of cutscenes is just to much

Ryza 3 having no bikini unlike Sophie 2 is disappointing. Man, Ryza in ryza 3 is older than Sophie in sophie 2!!! While Dame dane 8, SF6 has bikini or bikini scene..... I worry if Persona 3 reloaded will get swimsuit for body type 2(she/her, female character in old term) censored... for Kishida has banned bikini from anime and Japanse consumer games.

The answer is no. Atelier games are a plague on the industry. Tried playing them so many times and the dialogue alone made me drop them. Its like the writers were insanely high while writing the scripts.

I would admit that the writing is passable at best if you're looking for a good story, but when you try the series for its crafting systems, heartwarming moments, the characters, and the great soundtracks you will have a great time.
