If it wasn’t for owning a lovely Yamaha SRX600 single, I’d be tempted, but the little Yam’, with its deltabox frame and Brembo callipers simply is a must keep classic.
Thank you for this great review. The first one of yours I have watched. Since it is one of the best ones I have ever seen on YT, I have instantly subscribed to your channel. For me the Honda CL500 is the main competitor for the 400 Scrambler version.
Hi Graeme. Looks a really good package for the price. A recent bout of illness means downsizing for me so Ive ordered one. Regards to Rachel. Pity about the lack of communication, but thats life I suppose!
Cheers we know that now. Mind you if you flick the switch the lamp symbol goes off so you think your turning stuff down.. Dave service dude at Triumph Newcastle showed me the error of my ways when we returned it.

First of all, thank you for this review on the Speed 400. I've been debating between the Speed 400 and rhe Speed Twin 900. I like them both, but I think the 400 wins on looks and for five grand how could I go wrong? My main concern is I usually ride two up with my wife, right now she can't ride due to serious health issues, but if she is ever able to ride again I wonder if the Speed 400 is large enough? I know it has 40 bhp and that's enough for the kind of riding we do. But I wonder if it is physically large enough to carry me at 180 lbs. and her at 130 lbs. We are not large people but I want enough room so both of us will be comfortable. What do you think? Should I buy the 400 because I like the looks better and the price is about half of the 900? Or should I dig a little deeper in my pocker and go for the 900?
@@genegoodwin8925 bigger bike always better when riding with a pillion. Bikes is more roomy and bigger engine just better for pulling 2 less graft on the motor means it’s a lot less stress on the motor and you.
Yes I was amazed how many people have hit TH-cam with reviews. It is a mega bike don’t wait ride it soon and get one ordered our back orders push back to June now.
@@Geordiebiketester Thank you for that. Have a six month old Honda SH350i scooter, because was having difficulty getting on and off my Himalayan. Went to Portugal on it last August. OK but not great in the mountains. Wphone the Triumph dealer in Aberdeen tomorrow. Will take a two grand hit to swop.
Had a test ride yesterday. Thought it very good. Lovely clutch and gearbox. Handles well, good riding position. Good for touring, economical and fast enough for my age. No buzz at 70mph. If can get a decent price for my present scooter, will go for one. @@doylegaines1319
@@doylegaines1319 hi in August that’s all we could do. Triumph knew the bike was going to be a hit so yes started early building the want by lending dealers bikes but no keys so yes walk rounds was all we can do. But now I have ridden it yes it’s mega bike lovely to ride well built so it’s a brill bike.
@@flesz_ as a beginner the 400 is spot on but as your skills grow you will need more grunt. I have sold bikes for over 35 years so I think I have a good insight. The little bikes are great for all the stuff like getting the hang of bikes putting them in the garage squeezing them in the shed. Parking nose down towards the kerb hauling it back up from there. All the bits I call living with a bike but once you master that you move up a bit. The down side to a SV is it’s V twin lump,if your in the wrong guy it will tell you but once it clicks and you keep it in the sweet spot it makes you a better ride. I know this as Rachael had one as her first bike and it taught her lots about correct gears out of corners. Hope this helps.
@@Geordiebiketester thanks for the input. I'll take a test ride and most likely get speed 400 as I like the way it looks and the insurance is cheaper than the rest of the bigger bikes.
yup, looks like Triumph/bajaj [wonder how much of that £5k price Triumph gets? lol] have a winner on their hands, can see this selling shedloads plus the appeal to female riders will be huge, wouldn't mind one myself as my ZRR14 is a b~th to move around

Very good review, I’m one of those bikers with many miles onboard and the day to day is now a bit heavy, now sold on one of these!
I ordered mine in caspian blue two weeks ago. I'm getting on saturday morning.

I’m so tempted as a second bike and since my lady said I should do it when she saw it yesterday, I just might.
You should listen to your good lady and get one ordered. Like I said the other day bike is on back order so you have till June ish to sell ya Honda.
@@Geordiebiketester nah… keeping the NC but as a second bike…. so tempted 😉

Another good review, thanks. Yeah, if you turned the light switch on the left hand side from DRL to dipped beam, the display dims. 👍

I’m getting this damn thing. Love the dash estimating how many miles you’ve got left in the tank. That sways it for me 😎
Looks a great bike for the money., with some quality features..
It is a bargain you should get one use it for work keep the CRF for the mud.

As a beginner, would you recommend speed 400 or a few years old Suzuki sv650 for the same price?

Looks a lot better than the new Himmy.
the Himmy is a proper off roader though to be fair.
@@jasonjason7277 Thats where the 400 x will come in.
Would like to know what your lass thinks of being on the back of the speed.
We never got to try it for pillion normally Rachael is the pilot and check out the comfort will have to do a follow up vid..
Look forward to that 👍
It's 3.5 grand in India; those cargo ships certainly do not sip fuel.
I thought you couldn't turn traction control off with speed400

We have sold tones back orders run to June.
To me it seems to be aimed at the people in there 20s and 30s. For me I would prefer to have the longstroke engine of the RE Classic 350.
that 20hp is just too inadequate though. such a shame as the bike is simply gorgeous.

It would be a great bike for 5 grand too bad out the door at the dealer by me is 7 grand.
How do?
@@tomellis487 ?
Meant to say. How so? How can a dealer ask £7000?
Well I asked the dealer by me how much it would be out the door and he told me about 7k
Also that’s $7k USD
