I've been surprised by the amount of negative responses I've got in this video and I wanted to clarify some things. Firstly, the point of my reviews are to show you what the flight is really like rather than a photoshopped advertisement you'll get from the airline. I consider it my responsibility to be honest, so if the crew ignore my call bell for 15 minutes, I'm going to mention it. Secondly, I possibly came across more negatively than I intended. I actually think Jetstar are a good low cost carrier and other than the poor service on this flight and the annoying windows (more of a Boeing issue), they're pretty good. The 787 is also a pretty good aircraft. As I mentioned towards the end of the video, I was able to travel 1000kms in absolutely comfort and and safety, and for this I am certainly honoured. Having said that, I'll continue to publish how the flight actually is so if it's perceived as negative and unkind, well I guess you better only watch videos from the airline themselves.
Just watched this vid and I loved it. We've travelled Jetstar business 8 times, four times on the Airbus whatever and four times on the 787. Everytime the seats have been buggered yes even the 787 and on the Airbus one time my tray table ended up a flat piece of wood! BUT apart from the food one time back from Singapore being out of the garbage bin, I have always enjoyed the flights. The international crews are way better than the Aussies and the food and drink has been generally first rate. Didn't know the 787 had the little section behind BC and when I saw the woman with the hands over the back of the seat i undwrstood why we have travelled everytime seats 1A/1C. Now I know that means something different to you Paul but has made our last flights enjoyable. A long winded way of saying I thought your opinion on this flight was fine,
Fuck off If I want to recline my seat on a 30 min flight I will. If you don’t like the leg room get off TH-cam and get a job to pay for Business/First class. You also mislead people saying you were in business class. You were in an economy seat with a few extra inches. Bunch of amateur flyers on TH-cam spouting off diarrhea of the mouth.
@@yay-3012 I've clearly said I flew in economy class and it's written clearly in the video title. My next video will be business class and you'll be able to see the difference.
Getting ready for my first trip their, does Jetstar have fans like Southwest in the US? With them I can see the plusses but would really pay a few more dollars to avoid the cattle call thing.
heres a life hack for anyone flying (Jetstar Yaystar) domestic and is sick of the 7KG weight limit when they put a tag on your carry on bag, dont throw it away, keep it in good condition and use it on future jetstar flights they never check the weight of bags that already have an orange tag i have brought 30kg+ on board in my carry on and just got waved past the weight counter during boarding it works everytime (but only for carry on) and i fly between adelaide and sydney at least once a month using this trick to save around $60 per flight on baggage charges
this trick likely wont work if more than 10-20 people do it per flight, its pretty much guaranteed that the gate staff would get suspicious and start retagging peoples bags and even if they did fly at the calculated MTOW, the airlines use estimates for passengers and carry on bags, those estimates are 75KG per passenger and 10KG per carry on bag (which is more than the 7KG carry on limit) and even if the plane was above its rated MTOW, manufacturers add safety margins into those ratings to account for exactly this situation and as KPAracing said, they never take off anywhere near MTOW as its obscenely inefficient (and therefore expensive) i would estimate that any plane from a budget carrier like jetstar on a domestic flight would be flying at less than half of its MTOW the real risk is if everyone on the plane did this, the gate staff didnt notice and that caused the plane to run out of fuel (seeing as budget carriers tend to fly with barely enough to get there in the first place) 30 odd people carrying 4X the weight allowance would only really cause problems on ultra long international flights (which jetstar doesnt operate, and other airlines actually check and retag carry on bags on internatinal routes to combat this trick) and thats only if the plane is running on fumes when it nears the airport or if the weather is exceptionally hot on arrival (higher temps = reduced lift from the wings)
Obviously you don't know that every single baggage tags are like a legal document. Any trick you decide to pull, playing with bag tags or it's weight is an offence under Australia aviation law. Not only they will make you pay at the boarding gate times two but also could serve you with an infringement. So save yourself the embarrassment and the chat with the australian federal police, just purchase proper luggage allowance or pack your carry on accordingly. Yours sincerely, person who works for the company as a ground management crew. ✌🏻
@@lonewolf-jf4fl im not talking about the barcoded tags that are put on your checked luggage, im talking about the orange tags the gate staff put on your carry on bag so they know which bags they have weighed (all tags are identical), those tags are put on your bag just before you get on the plane 7KG is basically nothing, my laptop alone uses most of that allowance lmao and im sure as hell not buying a business class ticket just to get an extra 3KG of carry on or waiting an hour for the baggage guys to quit smoking weed and get my bag off the plane (and probably break whatever is inside it in the process) besides, even if i didnt put all the extra weight in my bag, i would do what i used to do and put all the heavy stuff in my pockets and simply wear all my clothes at once (which achieves the same effect and there's nothing anyone can do about it) if the safety of the aircraft is your reasoning, answer this whats the difference between me wearing all my clothes/putting the heaviest items in my pockets, vs simply reusing a tag to avoid getting my carry on bag weighed during boarding (and having the bonus of not getting heatstroke from wearing my entire holiday wardrobe during the flight)?
Iv'e flown Jetstar quite a bit, and apart from the odd cancellation they are pretty good on the whole, except the 7kg carry on luggage, while I don't have a problem with that, and we all should adhere to the rules. The problem is, like my wife and I experienced on a flight, a gentleman who sat next to my wife had to have been 150kg, now I got nothing against fat people, but they strictly police the 7kg carry on, and your stowed luggage as well, yet someone who is twice or three times the weight of the average person can fly and nothing gets said, bit unfair I reckon
I think it's because those overhead bins with their plastic door catches might not be strong enough to contain all the luggage in case of sudden plane movement.
@Indo Surfer I've only ever tried Jetstar Asia (Japan). They were very strict with hand carry luggage weight and dimensions. I found the short flights pleasant and acceptable for a budget price.
Oh, the seat recliner. In would never push my seat back when a frequent traveler except on a red eye when everyone was sleeping. What I would do as soon as I sat down was put my air vent on high and point it straight ahead so if the person in front of me wasn't as nice would get a nice cool breeze if they put their seat back. Once or twice someone got rude or tried to adjust my vent, the extra entertainment was free. As information, this works particularly well on the A320 series for some reason.
I flew Emirates to Dubai and I noticed on my flight there, they seemed to take their time getting to passengers. I was quite shocked considering the airline is quite famed for its luxury.
QF also have a 787 BNE-MEL on a Sunday QF617 for anyone wanting to give it a go. I don’t think they do it in reverse though, it comes from LA lands at 5am so I am guessing they get rotated round for servicing as the plane then continues on as WF9.
The crew ignoring you is an unacceptable behavior as it is a sign of bad service. Crew is different on different flights so I guess you got unlucky that day. Personally I think Jetstar is a nice 👍 alternative to legacy carriers. Nice Trip Report Paul 😃👍
It's a short-haul low-cost carrier. I think one's expectation should be limited to a seat and a decent chance of arrival at the predetermined destination. Otherwise, good luck.
Keep the integrity and honesty Paul and you are the best in this field and many of us travel as much as you do and we agree with you but being an non.infotainment presenter gives authenticity and I look forward to seeing you in a lounge somewhere one day and greeting you.
Firstly, great video. I have done this trip from Brisbane to Melbourne on the 787 many times in the past 18 months. usually on a Saturday. As a Qantas Frequent Flyer member I have to book through Qantas, (as you get checked baggage included) ,who's site redirects you to the Jetstar site, to complete the booking.which I guess you would know. The problem is...if any Jetstar flight is cancelled or seriously delayed, as a Qantas booked passenger. Jetstar cannot advise you by text or any other method.. Normal Jetstar passengers are notified, but the Qantas computers cannot talk to Jetstar computers at short notice. They used to be able to, in fact Qantas phone staff could access the Jetstar system and fix issues right on the spot. not so these days. This flight was cancelled overnight before I travelled, (around 2am I believe), and only Jetstar booked passengers were notified, and they could change to selected Qantas flights online. But oh no, not us Qantas booked ones, even though we completed booking with Jetstar and had a Jetstar booking reference, as well as a Qantas one. I tried to phone Jetstar and after waiting 30 mins on phone, was told I would have to change flight through Qantas, even though I had a Jetstar booking reference number. Could not hang about anymore so went to airport as I had to be in Melbourne by midday, no time to hang about on phones at home. Of course by the time I get to airport, all seats on Qantas flights in morning were now full due to this Jetstar flight being cancelled, and all passengers spread out over about 6 Qantas flights. Earliest Qantas flight Jetstar could get me on...2pm. This is at 9am mind you. So to cut this rant shorter, I ended up paying over $400 for one way ticket to Melbourne, in order to get there by midday. It is a joke that in 2018, (at the time), Jetstar cannot notify Qantas passengers booked on Jetstar of cancellations and the options available. I had to fight to get my $400 dollars back, but I got it, after threats to go to media. Then had to get points not used reimbursed, as they thought I was on 2 pm Jetstar flight. What a bloody joke. I also now use Virgin. Their frequent flier program is better than Qantas anyway, and at least they notify customers of delays and cancellations. Rant complete.
Thanks Brian. Yep, JQ are fine if things go smoothly, but if there's a problem, it's usually shambles. Hence why I'd rather pay a little extra to have the peace of mind knowing that I'll be looked after.
Flown with Jetstar many times never had a problem all the hostesses were great never been ignored "speak up that helps"and the planes are looked after like all qantas planes are so don’t worry about maintenance like someone suggested
Yeh they're not too bad. I think I came across more negatively that I anticipated. I'll do a business class video shortly and will highlight that they're actually pretty good for a LCC.
@@PaulStewartAviation yes i flew with them just yesterday from Nth Qld couldn’t fault them and yes i agree those auto tint windows on the 787 are crap lol
I just flew jestar twice, Sydney to Adelaide, Adelaide to Darwin. I had a smooth experience with them. I did have a one hour flight delay from Adelaide to Darwin that could have been better communicated but overall, I felt the staff were pleasant enough to deal. The only complaint is something not related to jetstar itself when a kid about 3-5 started bawling his eyes out for 2 hours plus on the adelaide-darwin flight. That ruined the experience in all honesty but I didn't have issues with them. For the price paid, I find them to deliver what they offered. The crew on the virgin Australia flight I was on from Darwin to Sydney gave me a snooty vibe. If there is enough of a price difference and the flight isn't too long, I find jetstar is a good LCC choice.
The GEnX 1B is a massive engine, I was lucky enough to have work experience at the GE Caledonian plant where they overhaul and repair both the GEnX and the older CF6. You cannot appreciate the size and technology of these engines until you are up close and inside them.
Nice review however I don't agree with your opinion that passengers shouldn't recline their seats. There could be any number of reasons why passengers recline seats during short flights, there could be health issues at play and perhaps the reclined seat helps relieve pain. The passenger may have just come from a long haul flight and was trying to get some rest. And the most obvious reason, it is a function of the seat and unless told by flight crew not to, then they are perfectly within their rights to recline their seat if they so desire. Personally I don't recline my seat on short flights but I'm not bothered if somebody in front does, just part of the joys of flying in economy.
Ok. Lets keep some seats reserved for those who have these health issues and for everyone else lets put electronic locks on the seats so they can't be reclined on short flights. If the cabin crew can control the windows, they might as well control the seats. Fixed.
I too have never understood the hysteria about seat reclining. I've been on countless short and long-haul flights. I've never been inconvenienced by anyone reclining their seat. I don't know why it bothers so many people.
@@Self37 It bothers me because I'm 6'4 (193cm), 240lbs (109kg). Sure, the easiest solution could be to just book economy plus seats/business class I travel, but I don't have that kind of money to splurge on upgrading my seats every time I fly. The best thing I can do to make my flying experience somewhat easier in economy class is selecting aisle seats so that I can adjust my legs. Having a seat reclined all the way ends up on my knees, which makes for an uncomfortable ride. For that reason, I rarely recline my seat. The only time that I do is if it's there's a short woman, man or a child sitting behind me.
Have reserved seats in this area going up to BKK and back. The little bit extra spent on a flight to be removed from the noise and shenanigans further back is worth it on longer flights. Experienced the locking out the use of the window on a flight to Narita, wasn't happy.
I have flown a number of times & remind you again "that what you pay for is what you get". I have commuted on those 1 hour flights & it is enough time to get up & land rather than need a full meal on board. Jetstar = Boganstar
A one hour flight in a modern comfortable aircraft for $100 is pretty good value. I fly into Melbourne on Jetstar frequently for work and generally I find their service OK for the money. My main complaint is the walking distance from their Melbourne terminal to ground transport and, of course the frigging Tullamarine Freeway into the city. Compared with those challenges tthe flight itself is just fine.
Look I'd tend to agree. I'm not regretting not concluding a little more positively as they're not actually that bed. $100 is great value for a 1000km flight!
Paul, negative responses came from those envies and jealousies people who are just knew you probably because your tag line “watch before” popped up across their videos. One even told that he is scared to fly :). All sarcastic and obscene comments clearly shows their attitude on how they hates so much people enjoying life in this temporary world.
@@mickg5660 you're right - it's definitely not an aussie thing. I think he's aware that he normally talks to fast and tries to pace himself. But instead of speaking smoothly slower, he is talking in quick bursts with a pause in between words/phrases.
I flew JQ MEL-HNL-MEL. Bit cramped but overall not that bad considering it is a budget airline & the B 787 is a winner IMHO. I've flown JQ MEL-DSP-MEL on the 787 as well, no problems there and the window dimmers worked fine.
The “hands/recliner”, it’s Typical of the “ Me me brigade” these days, selfish and thoughtless, thoughtless, ( incapable or unwilling to THINK) being the greater “sin’ . Stupidity can be forgiven, selfishness never.
Do what I do, bring a knee defender device (to jam the seat reclining mechanism) and wedge a jacket between the seat and plane wall (to keep praying hands away)
Paul Stewart Oh..I saw that I wrote your name instead of Paul’s Trip Reports. I changed the mistake, but I can imagine how weird it was to read my comment.
If i was your neighbour i would've the lady to move her hands. Thats a huge lack of common curtesy and the fact it was reclined also annoyed me. How rude
I was travelling Melb - Cairns return on same day with Jetstar last year (I had limited time, and it was to do a property inspection.) Flight leaving early 6.25am, got a text from Jetstar overnight (after I'd gone to bed and didn't see it til my alarm went off in the morning) to let me know that there'd be an ~8 hour delay to the flight. Hence, trip ruined, and took a number of phone calls before I got a refund. I generally have found the Tigerair cabin crew more friendly and pleasant. I started flying more regularly with Tiger after I had to make a few trips to Coffs Harbour from Melbourne as they did direct flights and was really surprised and impressed given I had pretty low expectations. Fantastic cabin crew, friendly, courteous and professional. Tiger gets a bad wrap, but my own personal experience has been that I've enjoyed flying with them, and found them reliable. Also flying from Tullamarine, domestic Terminal 4 you would have to walk a very long way to get to Jetstar gates. I wonder what the future holds for Tigerair and if they'll fly again. Enjoying your videos Paul which I'm new to. My new way of taking flights from here in Victoria now that I'm not doing any travel atm.
Ive done similar. Mdelbourne to brisbane. Was stunned by the climb performance. I liked the electronic shades, but i agree with the crew thing. I had a bali crew on mine (since the flight was onwards to denpasar) and they generally werent as good as aussie crews.
Just booked a seat on this for Melbourne too gold coast June 1st 3.20 pm..It's been pulled out of hibernation for domestic routes..I miss international flying so much
(Jetstar Yaystar) Came across your channel recently as I started to take interest in watching flight reviews. I love your work and please keep them coming :)
G'day Paul, I know is been a few years since this JQ review. I'm travelling to Thailand JQ27 (5th trip) in a few weeks(mid May) and its the first time I have booked seat 11J. it was stated on seat guru as a marginal seat due to being close to toilets with limited recline. well I took very close notice during your vid and did notice a recline that seemed to touch the rear bulkhead...that will do me! got the same seat coming home in June
Jack Visser have you thought it could be your terrible attitude that makes it a terrible airline with lousy service? I have no problems with them. (Jetstar yaystar)
Another great review, with just enough humour, sprinkled throughout to stop it being 'just another airplane review'. From one Ginge to another, I'd agree re the Sun giving us 3rd-degree 'Ginger-burns' in only minutes.
Great review ☺️ The white nose was a temporary replacement for the normal grey one which was hit by a bird. The reason it’s white is because it was borrowed from Qantas.
Hi Anthony, yep I assumed that it would probably borrowed from QF. My joke has kinda backfired haha. I think that's why they don't paint the engines too (which is a pity as I reckon a red roo on the QF 789 engines would look great. :)
So the person Infront of you has to be considerate of you. But not you of them.... Recline is there to be used for comfort. Of course during meal service you shouldn't recline out of consideration.
I've never felt the need to recline onboard plane. But if I did feel the need I would check with behind me first. It's just a polite thing to do and I'd hate to have someones drink fall over onto them and so on. The lady with her hands over onto the other side of the seat is just plain rude, I blame her parents for teaching poor manners. However, what do you expect from a Jetstar flight, you're going to surrounded by some selfish ill-mannered riff raff, but it is a sign of the times.
I got into a fistfight durung a flight because some asshole decided to recline his seat without warning and ended up crushing my laptop screen (the fight was because he wouldn't apologize or pay for repairs) These days I carry a gadget that jams the seat reclining mechanism so cunts can't break my stuff If he or she asks I will remove the device but I keep it wedged in the reclining mechanism so I have some warning to move my gear out of the way
Hi Paul, another great video once again. I agree about the annoying window shades. It was even during the day! Why should they lock them. The window shades would have been fine if they allow you to adjust them yourself.
Thanks Jason. Yeah I can understand them dimming the lights during a night flight with an early sunrise as to avoid waking everyone, but when it was a 60min flight in the afternoon...
Great video Paulie I'm glad I work for AirNZ plus orange really isn't my color.. Jetstar Yaystar.. Keep up the great work buddy really enjoy coming along for the ride with you on all your travels.. Happy new year
Cool! I've always thought it would be nice to do a flying trip to the south island and fly on some of those Dash8s. I've seen some amazing photos and videos!
Another nice report Paul, espcially the shot of the Gong on descent (from another former resident). I'm totally with you about the window shades on the 787 - too long to change, and giving everything a weird hue. And never choose the southern side of the aircraft if you're flying Japan to the USA in autumn or winter - JAL even has pillow like window plugs to block the sun entirely on request.
Thanks for the tip about the window plugs! I'm flying JAL in 2 months (787 of course...) and I might ask for one of those. I'm usually happy for the view although it might be interesting for other's to know about them.
@@PaulStewartAviation I've done JAL from Sydney to east coast USA a couple of times in recent years and noted them on my first 787-8 sector. I've specifically chosen the northern side of the aircraft trans-pacific since, and must admit I didn't notice them on the 787-9.
Did Adelaide to Perth on Jetstar yesterday , had a seat recliner in front of me and a child behind me who spent the entire 3hr flight kicking the back of my seat , oh the joys:) , but hey it could of been worse .
In defence of Jetstar there is an Australian website that publishes details on the number of cancelled flights by airlines on various routes. It is a while since I read the report but on the high frequency routes Qantas, Virgin, and Jetstar were all around 1 % and with Tiger slightly worse. I know there is more to a good flight than a non cancel of course!
Yep I must admit that I've never had issues with Jetstar being delayed. In fact I've had more delays and cancellations with QF :) I'll still prefer QF though, although I'll be paying for it.
Paul ... NEV stop eating what the TRUE flight experience is like! If people want a fluffier/airline advert extension they can subscribe to Sam Chui. 🧐. Yes I called it. 😏. I too dislike the 787 windows specifically because the flight crew has full control over my viewing. I select window seats because I like to look out from time to time at the clouds which can be awesomely beautiful. Lastly, some of us actually appreciate/understand your dry sense of humor so don’t forget to be full on with it. ✅
Great video as always, Paul. Short flight recliners also give me the cranks so once on a flight from ADL to SYD I got my revenge on a recliner by continually burping over his head. I think it’s safe to say that I won that battle. Nice work on the #welovethegong shoutout. (Jetstar Yaystar)
I can't really tell by the video, but do you recall how much padding was in the backrest of the seats? The reason I ask is that we were put on a Jetstar flight by Qantas, and it really felt like the seat had hardly any rear padding. When you have back issues and need some lumbar support, the Jetstar A320 seats are the worst imaginable!
The window tinting is the singular reason why I hate the 787. In bright sunlight, it's not only ineffective at blocking the glare, the windows also get superheated. I'm harbouring thoughts of bringing duct tape and newspapers to to up the window of the next 787 flight I take. (Jetstar Yaystar)
Lol much like BA and other low cost carriers :D Another informative and funny review Paul! Don't forget your factor 787 next time you fly to avoid that sunburn!
Funny you mention about the cabin temperature being warm. Doing most of my flying in the U.S.A. I have grown used to and appreciative of cooler cabin temperatures, which allows an individual to adjust their own comfort with a blanket / sweater or other. European airlines (the few which I have flown) are slightly warmer while Asian airlines tend to be even warmer. Nothing compares to the sauna of the airlines "down under". Air NZ seems to be the worst. I literally have sat there sweating for the first few hours on those trans-Pacific flights between the US and NZ. Requests to make it cooler seem to be ignored and even the complaints from NZ nationals, not just us Yanks. One time a NZ gentleman sitting next to me said he could not take it anymore and removed his shirt. Thank goodness it was business class with the little divider walls! LOL
Completely agree! I actually find the Japanese airlines the worst and I actually asked if the temp could be turned down last time I flew with ANA. Otherwise ANA were fantastic.
I was quite a few rows back in 50J and it was chalk and cheese compared to the Qantas jumbo flight QF423 down earlier in the day. Couldn't recommend this particular flight if travelling with a child - all those ID checks heading through the intl terminal made it a bit of a hassle - but we got through and I got lucky with two seats becoming vacant next to me after takeoff. Jetstar Yaystar ;)
It was pretty full where we were, but there were some free seats down the very back it seems as the two next to me upped and left to join their family after takeoff. Overall it just felt squishier than the QF economy product.
Nice video Paul!! I'm surprised somebody actually admitted to flying Jetstar! I was p*ssed of with Thai after I realised the cabin crew deactivate the window shades en masse on the 787 on overnight flights. Makes it hard to get nice sunrise shots.
Great review, thanks! I'm thinking of taking them from MEL to SIN next month. Also, great views indeed 👍🏻. One thing I never understand (and this goes for air vents too) is why airlines believe it is good for passengers to have master control over their flying experience, like the windows. Baffles me
Hey - how was your flight from Melb to Singapore on the Jetstar 787? Where did you sit? I'm also thinking of the same and would like to know how you went :)
@@brandonvernet oh actually I never ended up taking that flight. I ultimately booked with Emirates because one of the other flights got cancelled so I had to do a last minute change... so, sorry I won't be able to help you!
787 windows are brilliant (when the crew don't override them). For a start they are huge as far as plane windows go. The ability to tint is fantastic compared to old windows that only give you two options. Dazzling bright, or pull down the blind and see nothing...
They are nice and big although my issue is that i really enjoy aviation footage and taking good photos from the air and the tint always seems to draw out the colours (in a bad way).
I flew from Athens to Doha with Qatar airways in a B787 Dreamliner for the first time and I did not like it one bit. Window seats where the footrests were, there was a stupid metal box which is the system for the media player by the looks of things, I couldn't get to stretch my feet straight, but on an angle which started to give me lower back pain. Middle seat didn't have this issue. And the window took forever to get it to the desired shade. I was glad it was only a 4hr30min flight. Never again in a Dreamliner. That was a nightmare.
In the 787's defence, the problem with the metal box is Qatar's fault as they're the ones that decide the seat layout. The window, on the other hand, is Boeing fault and I agree that it's annoying! Hope you enjoyed your visit to Athens, though, as it's a fantastic place.
(Jetstar Yaystar) Good review though I've got to disagree with you on the recline. Sometimes seats are just too uncomfortable or sometimes I just need a power nap (esp on the 6am SYD to BNE flights after I had to get up at 4am), also I don't think recline uses much space so I don't mind other people reclining on short flights either. I will agree on sitting up during meal service and not putting your arms in weird positions.
Yeh it's a nice aircraft, minus the stupid windows, and JQ are usually OK. In the end of the day, they're a low cost carrier and you usually save a lot of money flying them.
Great review Paul. I’ve heard the same comments on the window tint too from others. I’m amazed at the poor service. Never had that for me on Virgin. But always enjoy the wing shots.
Thanks for the review and of the forward cabin. Of great interest as I’m flying on the Jetstar 787 (my first 787 flight) to Bali in a few weeks and have chosen seats in the forward cabin, row 12a. Looking forward to the bogan express 😆. Don’t blame me I won the trip!

they never check the weight of bags that already have an orange tag
i have brought 30kg+ on board in my carry on and just got waved past the weight counter during boarding
it works everytime (but only for carry on) and i fly between adelaide and sydney at least once a month using this trick to save around $60 per flight on baggage charges
If the aircraft was at its maximum take off weight and everyone did that...........
@@davidrayner9832 they never take off fully laden. inconsistencies of overweight PAX and luggage (even if paid overweight tax) is always accommodated.
this trick likely wont work if more than 10-20 people do it per flight, its pretty much guaranteed that the gate staff would get suspicious and start retagging peoples bags
and even if they did fly at the calculated MTOW, the airlines use estimates for passengers and carry on bags, those estimates are 75KG per passenger and 10KG per carry on bag (which is more than the 7KG carry on limit)
and even if the plane was above its rated MTOW, manufacturers add safety margins into those ratings to account for exactly this situation
and as KPAracing said, they never take off anywhere near MTOW as its obscenely inefficient (and therefore expensive)
i would estimate that any plane from a budget carrier like jetstar on a domestic flight would be flying at less than half of its MTOW
the real risk is if everyone on the plane did this, the gate staff didnt notice and that caused the plane to run out of fuel (seeing as budget carriers tend to fly with barely enough to get there in the first place)
30 odd people carrying 4X the weight allowance would only really cause problems on ultra long international flights (which jetstar doesnt operate, and other airlines actually check and retag carry on bags on internatinal routes to combat this trick) and thats only if the plane is running on fumes when it nears the airport or if the weather is exceptionally hot on arrival (higher temps = reduced lift from the wings)
@@lonewolf-jf4fl im not talking about the barcoded tags that are put on your checked luggage, im talking about the orange tags the gate staff put on your carry on bag so they know which bags they have weighed (all tags are identical), those tags are put on your bag just before you get on the plane
7KG is basically nothing, my laptop alone uses most of that allowance lmao and im sure as hell not buying a business class ticket just to get an extra 3KG of carry on or waiting an hour for the baggage guys to quit smoking weed and get my bag off the plane (and probably break whatever is inside it in the process)
besides, even if i didnt put all the extra weight in my bag, i would do what i used to do and put all the heavy stuff in my pockets and simply wear all my clothes at once (which achieves the same effect and there's nothing anyone can do about it)
if the safety of the aircraft is your reasoning, answer this
whats the difference between me wearing all my clothes/putting the heaviest items in my pockets, vs simply reusing a tag to avoid getting my carry on bag weighed during boarding (and having the bonus of not getting heatstroke from wearing my entire holiday wardrobe during the flight)?
Nolsp no it’s pure cost of the weight. Google the cost of extra weight on fuel cost for aircraft. You will be amazed how they try and save weight.
@@alistairharris7891 You're probably right. I still wouldn't trust those overhead bins with too much weight.
Nolsp yeah neither
I agree that reclining is fine for longer flights and especially at night, but not a short flight during the day :)
Man I would love to sit in front of you. Double air-conditioner and get to annoy an asshole. Win win.
Jetstar also mostly use the Boing 787 for longer international flights they run such as to Singapore, Bali and possibly New Zealand! :)
Hey Paul! Just wanted to say that I do really appreciate this review as I am taking this flight soon. Keep it up mate!
Safe travels!
The crew ignoring you is an unacceptable behavior as it is a sign of bad service. Crew is different on different flights so I guess you got unlucky that day. Personally I think Jetstar is a nice 👍 alternative to legacy carriers. Nice Trip Report Paul 😃👍
Yeh considering their price, they're a perfectly good option.
I have flown jetstar numerous times interstate and international. Have not had any issues at all.
cymen vorheers same!
It's a short-haul low-cost carrier. I think one's expectation should be limited to a seat and a decent chance of arrival at the predetermined destination. Otherwise, good luck.
Agreed
Keep the integrity and honesty Paul and you are the best in this field and many of us travel as much as you do and we agree with you but being an non.infotainment presenter gives authenticity and I look forward to seeing you in a lounge somewhere one day and greeting you.
Thanks Gregory!
NO MUSIC DURING DEPARTURE FOOTAGE!!
Hey mate, fair comment. I'll upload the takeoff footage unedited in another video :)
Hence why I'd rather pay a little extra to have the peace of mind knowing that I'll be looked after.
nice reveiw. been subbed since 11k subs, keep up the hard work
Thanks gaylord productions... haha

Flown with Jetstar many times
never had a problem all the hostesses were great never been ignored "speak up that helps"and the planes are looked after like all qantas planes are so don’t worry about maintenance like someone suggested

@@TheAirplanejunkie 10/10 for that witticism!
EddieF4 Regional Express Airlines.
One expensive tupperwear container...
The GEnX 1B is a massive engine, I was lucky enough to have work experience at the GE Caledonian plant where they overhaul and repair both the GEnX and the older CF6. You cannot appreciate the size and technology of these engines until you are up close and inside them.
They're pretty amazing! I recall having a good look at the 787 motor at the Museum of Flight and being amazed by how large it was.
Try a long international flight and see how ignored one can be on Jetstar. Never again for me.
Jetstar yaystar -- flying on this one soon and just upgraded our seats to row 10...thanks!!!
Safe flight! :)
@Telaan Dias if you we're sitting in front of me, I'd welcome you to recline your seat and enjoy your flight. Rest assured I'm feeling no pain. 🤣🤣
The only time that I do is if it's there's a short woman, man or a child sitting behind me.
i hate seat reclining, HATE IT.
Have reserved seats in this area going up to BKK and back. The little bit extra spent on a flight to be removed from the noise and shenanigans further back is worth it on longer flights. Experienced the locking out the use of the window on a flight to Narita, wasn't happy.
Manual shades are just fine. My least favorite part of the 787.
Also, inconsiderate passergers are never fun. (Jetstar Yaystar)
Agreed. Otherwise, it's a great aircraft.
I have flown a number of times & remind you again "that what you pay for is what you get". I have commuted on those 1 hour flights & it is enough time to get up & land rather than need a full meal on board. Jetstar = Boganstar
That lady in front needed a traditional mousetrap popped near her perfect nail varnish
🤣
Tis true. Some people are just sad. haha
Am I the only one who likes the dimming of the 787 they feel so relaxing
Yep, just you ;)
Good vid just improve on the narrating because it sounds a bit robotic

@@mickg5660 you're right - it's definitely not an aussie thing. I think he's aware that he normally talks to fast and tries to pace himself. But instead of speaking smoothly slower, he is talking in quick bursts with a pause in between words/phrases.

I'm Aussie so i think I'd know if it was an Aussie thing aha
I flew JQ MEL-HNL-MEL. Bit cramped but overall not that bad considering it is a budget airline & the B 787 is a winner IMHO. I've flown JQ MEL-DSP-MEL on the 787 as well, no problems there and the window dimmers worked fine.
I think I came across as more negative than I intended. In the end of the day, they're fine for a low cost carrier.
When I make decisions to fly my main concern is who is sitting up the pointy end.
The “hands/recliner”, it’s Typical of the “ Me me brigade” these days, selfish and thoughtless, thoughtless, ( incapable or unwilling to THINK)
being the greater “sin’ . Stupidity can be forgiven, selfishness never.
Why that comment sir?
Do what I do, bring a knee defender device (to jam the seat reclining mechanism) and wedge a jacket between the seat and plane wall (to keep praying hands away)
I too hate the new dimming windows. The slide up-down window shades are so much better!

(Jetstar Yaystar) When I saw the title, I thought this video would be like Paul’s Trip Report’s review of Scoot! Good video!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Paul Stewart Oh..I saw that I wrote your name instead of Paul’s Trip Reports. I changed the mistake, but I can imagine how weird it was to read my comment.
No worries, I figured you were talking about Paul's Scoot video :)
Jetstar yaystar! Haha, very informative video as usual Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it
If i was your neighbour i would've the lady to move her hands.
Cheers Caros
Great video Paul. A good attitude too as there were a few issues onboard but it's still a lot faster than walking.
Ive done similar. Mdelbourne to brisbane. Was stunned by the climb performance. I liked the electronic shades, but i agree with the crew thing. I had a bali crew on mine (since the flight was onwards to denpasar) and they generally werent as good as aussie crews.
Poor Paul Stewart. Just wasn't your day or flight. Still enjoyed your video and honest review. (Jetstar Yaystar)

Great review ☺️
The white nose was a temporary replacement for the normal grey one which was hit by a bird.
I hate people who recline
someone did it 5 mins into a 14 hour flight from Melbourne to LAX
I got into a fistfight durung a flight because some asshole decided to recline his seat without warning and ended up crushing my laptop screen (the fight was because he wouldn't apologize or pay for repairs)
These days I carry a gadget that jams the seat reclining mechanism so cunts can't break my stuff
If he or she asks I will remove the device but I keep it wedged in the reclining mechanism so I have some warning to move my gear out of the way
If you pay for the seat do whatever you want to do to feel comfortable don't listen to these guys !

Jetstar Yaystar, great video keep up the great work 👍🏼

Chur bro ;)
Did Adelaide to Perth on Jetstar yesterday , had a seat recliner in front of me and a child behind me who spent the entire 3hr flight kicking the back of my seat , oh the joys:) , but hey it could of been worse .
How frustrating!?!
Thanks for your support Rob :)
There's always the accidental and repetitive movement of one's knee in close proximity to the seat back too ;)
I can't really tell by the video, but do you recall how much padding was in the backrest of the seats? The reason I ask is that we were put on a Jetstar flight by Qantas, and it really felt like the seat had hardly any rear padding. When you have back issues and need some lumbar support, the Jetstar A320 seats are the worst imaginable!
Hi Don, I honestly can't remember although the seats seemed comfortable to me :)
I flew on them once. My 70kg arse was sitting on the bars in the seat, fucking joke.
Again great video Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Naughty crew or Lazy crew!!! A call bell should be answered, it could be an emergency medical situation.
Absolutely. I know they're busy so I won't expect an instant response but they should eventually respond.
Paul Stewart exactly!!! 😉
:) Yep I recall a JAL 788 flight a few years ago and I actually took a photo of the window in direct sunlight and you could clearly still see the sun.
Good stuff paul! Thanks for the comprehensive review. (Jetstar Yaystar)

Jetstar yaystar! Excellent review, I’ll be boarding this aircraft in November
Safe flight!
Lol much like BA and other low cost carriers :D
Another informative and funny review Paul! Don't forget your factor 787 next time you fly to avoid that sunburn!
I will! haha Best to fly the 787 at night time!
Always enjoy your vids! (Jetstar Yaystar)
Glad to hear :)
Another very honest review (which I love ) keep it up (jetstar yaystar)

I was quite a few rows back in 50J and it was chalk and cheese compared to the Qantas jumbo flight QF423 down earlier in the day. Couldn't recommend this particular flight if travelling with a child - all those ID checks heading through the intl terminal made it a bit of a hassle - but we got through and I got lucky with two seats becoming vacant next to me after takeoff. Jetstar Yaystar ;)
How full was it further back? It was surprisingly quite full at the front where I was.
It was pretty full where we were, but there were some free seats down the very back it seems as the two next to me upped and left to join their family after takeoff. Overall it just felt squishier than the QF economy product.
(Jetstar Yaystar) Great vid as always!

Nice video Paul!! I'm surprised somebody actually admitted to flying Jetstar!
I was p*ssed of with Thai after I realised the cabin crew deactivate the window shades en masse on the 787 on overnight flights. Makes it hard to get nice sunrise shots.
Agreed! I love getting sunrise shots.
@@dennisrettke All good buddy, thanks for the response anyway! Take care.
@@brandonvernet thanks mate! Maybe it will be you who can let us know first about Jetstar's 787!
Love it!! Will be sure to get back on JQ soon!!! 😉
Glad you enjoyed it Ollie. Make sure you're subscribed so you're alerted as soon as I upload my JQ business class flight. :)
@@PaulStewartAviation been a long time sub already! Cheers
Love your videos Paul
Cheers 😊
Thanks for the honest and objective video. cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it Louis! My Jetstar 787 business review will be out on Monday. :)
Fair enough. We'll agree to disagree :)
Why is everyone on here hating on the 787? I haven't seen any problems with them..I've flown on 2 and not a single problem on them..
Jetstar Yaystar!
Yep other than the dimming windows, I think that the 787 is a great aircraft.
When we fly with the Mc Donald Douglas DC-8- 63 Scanair you didn't have to pay for the food.
My absolute favorite passenger aircraft
The DC-8 would have been fantastic to have flown in. I'm very jealous! :)
I fly the 787 Dreamliner quite regularly when I fly to Thailand and I flight with Jetstar
Thanks Mark
Thanks for the review and of the forward cabin. Of great interest as I’m flying on the Jetstar 787 (my first 787 flight) to Bali in a few weeks and have chosen seats in the forward cabin, row 12a. Looking forward to the bogan express 😆. Don’t blame me I won the trip!
Enjoy your visit to Bali and your first flight in a 787!
