- Here's a video for all of you who think I only fly business or first class!
This flight review covers economy class on the Jetstar 787 from Melbourne, Australia to Bali's Denpasar Airport in Indonesia.
Bali has long been the holiday resort of choice for Australian travellers with beautiful beaches, the wonderful Balinese people, great resorts, good nightlife and cheap drinks - including the famous Bintang Beer. Whilst Bali has gone more upmarket in recent years the Bogan Spirit lives on and there are still plenty of Bintang singlets to be seen - especially on low cost carrier flights such as Jetstar.
So here it is - to Bali on the Bintang Express - flying Jetstar's flagship Boeing 787 in economy class.

I hear Jetstar has a cheap option on a soon to be retired Qantas A380. The aircraft will be refurbished and seats removed and replaced with bar stools to allow a carrying capacity of 1300 Mining Bogans on the PER to DPS run. Carpets will also go and be replaced with durable linoleum, allowing the vomit, excreta and other bodily fluids to be hosed out at journey's end and to enable quick turnaround times.

From one Dennis to another, this is what we love about you. You'll fly at the pointy end of a plane on a Q-suite and then to the bogan bus to Bali in Economy - all with no ego, no biased & up-turning of the nose based on your prior experience. Another great review. Well done!

I like this video. Unfortunately not everyone can afford or want to spend money on first class or business class. After watching so many videos of yours about business and first class flights, it is really great to see you sampling the economy class. Please do more of economy class ones so patrons like me can make better choice.

Leonard Carr On short trips of say four hours or less I will happily fly economy, though many low cost carriers allow you to pay for extras. So you can add what is important to you.
Those videos showing business and first class do allow people to decide whether to pay extra for longer international journeys.

I was so looking forward to the 8 Bundy and cokes scene! In Sydney, this flight I have heard called the Bogan Bintang Binge! Your Jetstar flight was much nicer than my domestic one, and with more legroom. Nice work!

I can't believe you made me wait more than 18 hours to watch your latest video. And it was an interesting review given that I know a few people have that flown ‘Jetstar’ before and only have shocking things to say about travelling the airline.

The Bintang singlet is the only way to tell New Zealanders apart from Aussies in Bali!
Brave man sir ! :) I have done the Dom sector of the flight. Forward mini Y cabin is the best imo. The #QF Mel F Lounge can be a helper the odd Four Pillars gin. Flew VKA on her first domestic testing flight ex Mel. Nice report always :) Cheers
I've book the jetstar 787 to hopefully (if the country aint closed yet again in september) go upto Cairns. I did not know they flew the 787 to Cairns from Sydney..so I'm keen to try my 1st ever 787 flight. Its always been the tried and trusted A302/321 upto cairns before for me with jetstar !
People that I talk to all day Jetstar is like a crappy budget airline. However I fly them all the time and never once had an issue. Great fares and good service. The 787 is an absolute treat to fly on as well, plenty of room and you'd hardly know you were flying it's so quiet
I agree - I do believe that on the A320 they are pretty dire however on these 787 I was impressed.
Flew from Sydney to Cairns on Jetstars A320 and it was a decent flight. Crew were very good. Having said that, anymore than three hours would have been a chore because leg room is limited and no IFE.
The A320 wasn't that bad when I flew it from Melbourne to Sydney last year, but I do prefer Virgin anyway since you can actually get frequent flyer points on the basic fare and oftentimes they're only $10-20 more expensive than Jetstar for more peace of mind.

On a low cost airline long haul the most important thing is for the seat to be comfy enough. The seat looks a lot better then I was expecting for a low cost airline and that is a massive plus.
Last flight I took with Jetstar was the Adelaide to Darwin flight, that then goes onto Bali, The bogan express with one bogan/Hi Vis drop off in Darwin! I dare say they encounter issues on that route as well as we were limited to ONE drink per order (we were attempting to order more at once as the service was so slow), and were lucky to get 2 drinks the entire flight (3.5-4 hours). It was just lucky we loaded up in QClub prior to boarding! I have taken this flight numerous times and it always suspiciously runs out of Bundy's very early into the flight!

I had an excellent experience flying JetStar from HKG to SIN .....the price was a fraction of what SQ was charging for the same route.
i flew with jetstar on the 787 in 2016 to singapore and was presently surprised at how good jetstar was.

Two very good points flying Jetstar to Bali, 1. It's a 787 and 2. with points it's not bad value.
Now I know only 787 jetstar plane apply at australia airport only. Jetstar Asia passenger still have to suffer tight seat cabin. Thanks jetstar for ur caring. Ur competitor already use 787 dreamliner.

Interesting to see that Jetstar still offers audio on their flights. Will they continue to do so even though Qantas short haul and regional no longer does so?
Thanks for the review, Dennis, but talk about chalk & cheese Jetstar experiences. I flew Jetstar from Perth to Bali in March 2018 and the flight was very uncomfortable. Thankfully, no bogans but the cramped conditions did not make for a relaxing/enjoyable flight. If I ever travel to Bali again, I doubt that it would be with Jetstar.
"Bintang Express", or "Bali Bogan Bus".
With a reputation like that, it's a wonder anybody books a flight on those routes.

I recently took JQ 57 (BNE to DPS) and JQ 38 (DPS to SYD) in Business. Not sure the experience in Economy will be that much different.
Hey I got a suggestion, if you’re in like Britain or America (or if they have them is Australia) try Overnight train sleepers if you can. Review them as well!

I was going on holiday and I knew the alternative was a crappy cramped late night A320 Jetstar service out of Adelaide so of course I was happy!
Travelled from NZ to Aus once with JetStar. Ordered meals and paid extra for same. Got sandwiches? Sorry but we’ve run out of your choice? Hello can’t be true as our name was on them? The sandwiches that is? The coffee was like stewed socks. The seat comfort was ok. At least they’d kept seats for us. Never mind it was only for three hours or so.
Maybe it's because I'd forgotten how expensive Australian food is but those prices of in-flight meals were next level expensive!
When you say 8:30 assuming it is Australian time, is that South Australian, WA, East Coast summer time NT or Qld time. That one issue on putting a time on this. Otherwise anticipating a great report as usual!
Yeah, I assume TH-cam automatically adjusts to local time as in their notifications but not sure.

fo sho ... complete with bogan culinary delights .. 3:50 .. the 'dogs eye' pack ... drown it in dead horse and wrap your laughing gear around that..that'll put some lead in your pencil .. i wonder if it comes with a complimentary beer hat ..
2:50 You can see about 6 bogan buns in the one shot. Multiply that by 10 and you have the number of people wearing leggings
Leonard Carr so please, if you will, do tell me, oh wise one, that you you relish the low brow antics of our quite often drunken countrymen and women when travelling abroad. i certainly do not. they are an embarrassment on the world stage. for my money, they can have bali and thailand, and like places, all to themselves, i choose to travel where they do not. i will point out that i am not holier than thou either. im what many would consider upper middle class, average guy, educated, nothing to go on about, but i behave myself when i travel. i guess thats the difference between people like myself and the beer swilling bogan parade.
Leonard Carr labels are a fact of life. when you see a homeless asshole trying to shake you down for money on your lunch break you think 'homeless asshole trying to shake me down for money', like everyone does, and thus avoid. its a primal thing to recognise danger and avoid it. harsh yes, but its necessary for survival in this dog eat dog world.
I like the premier idea and the live chat but would get old quickly if it was every time.

Not a fan of charging for IFE at all. Charging for WiFi and meals - fair enough. But if a flight is over a certain length IFE should be expected and should be free to use.
The 787 eco looks so cramped, especially at the end when you film from the galley.
LRsoup your right it is cramped I’ve just travelled on Jetstar from Melbourne to Honolulu few days ago in economy. It was hell for me since I’m 180cm tall guy. Some of the other passages i’ve heard had the same problem but bit shorter then me.
If you had a choice over Uniteds polaris business class or Lufthansa business class which would you recommend? 😃
I'd go United Polaris - seats are more comfortable and they have PJs available on the long haul sectors :)
