You're not kidding, we were so lucky to have so much genuine talent and most of the time it was free or very cheap to go to their gigs.
The rest of the world missed out.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of really good songs which are released every year. If you seriously believe that this era was the last of the good songs, you're either pulling for likes or an idiot. You just need to look. Most of those songs don't get air play because station managers want revenue, so just play shit music.

Great stuff. I was absolutely blessed to work during this golden age of Australian music. I played and had a small sound and lighting company from the mid 70s until 84 based in Sydney. Just before this performance I was doing FOH for a young band for three weeks at a den of iniquity called The Bombay Rock in Surfers Paradise. The last weekend Matt and Chain came in for two nights. I still remember how well they treated the young band I worked for. Spent a lot of time talking to them, encouraging them etc. Great musicians, even better people.

Peter Rech agreed peter. i have now revised the way i calculate age. this year i am 70 and see it as 7. when i turn 71 i will be eight by adding 7 and 1 together etc.when i was 51 i added 5 and 1 together which made my age as 6. so i will never grow old.

One day, I was waiting for some friends at the Principal Bar and Restaurant in Midland, WA. I bought a beer and went out side to to drink it. I was sitting at a table and I noticed this bloke sitting at another table who looked very familiar, but I couldn't put a name to the face. Like me, he was by himself, rolling his own and drinking a few beers.
I have worked on about 35 remote mine sites in my working life, so I assumed he was someone I had worked with. So, as I do in these situations, I began to go through all of the sites in my head, hoping to make a connection, but I kept coming up with a blank.
Finally, this bloke got up and left, walking past me and out to onto Cale Street. When he was out of sight, it suddenly hit me - that was Matt Taylor! Like Matt, I too remember when I was young. Had my memory been better, I might have been able to have a beer with a muso I've admired since Moses played at full back for the Jews.
Sorry Matt, I think I owe you a beer, mate!

Chain just played Byron Bay East Coast Festival 2022. First time without Matt Taylor as he couldn't get there and back home due to Covid. I wasn't there but apparently it went well with fill ins. x

I remember when I was young at Devonport High School and Phil Manning played us a motivational visit during assembly (he being a former student), one day...say about '74-'75 (".)

Don’t forget Chris Finnen. An original member, went blind and couldn’t tour. He is inducted into the Blues guitar hall of fame. Lives in Adelaide.

Wow, I would like a time machine to go back to the happy days, I was very fortunate to have Phil Sign my Phil Manning Custom Stereo Maton Guitar Number 13, Who said 13 was unlucky! Phil signed it at the Piping Hot Chicken Shop is in Ocean Grove this year, and still kicks ass it was an awesome night!

I was at this gig too, both days. At the time, I wasn't as interested in the 'old hippy stuff' like Chain, being at that time more into the New Wave groups who were mostly on the first day. It was only later that I've come to appreciate how great some of the early 70s Aussie bands were.
So in retrospect, I'm glad to able to say, 'yeah, I was there, I saw this'.
