As an Aussie girl born in 1960, this is the version that I fell in love with when I was really young. Haven’t listened to it for decades but still love it and remember it so well.

Same here. Cruising around in mum's V8 HQ Kingswood she'd have this cranked. Same with The Angels, The Doors etc and I used to call it her "old fogey music". Thank God for mum's excellent taste in music because by the time I was 12, I was a fan of her style of music and still am🤘🏻

It had to just be to get hits. There's a reason The Beatles are the only band that has done what they did, and produced as many hits as they did, and it isn't because Rick Springfield is better. LOL He is probably a better soap opera actor than any of the Beatles, but NOT musician nor singer.

One of the radio stations 3xy I think used to stage a gig near the Frankston pier as well. I was 14 in 1979 & my mates & I played this single a gazillion times til we could play it.
We all learnt by ear for the most part & are all 5 of us clowns - life-long musicians & rockin' roller band members who play 60s 70s 80s hits mainly - there's no decent music written post-2000 - kid's these days I feel sorry for them. This is NUTS!!! This cover version Zoot came up with BLEW!!! our manic teenaged minds - we turned this up to 11 on the record player, dropped the needle and my mated & I always have played it this way cos it's outrageously good in fact it's wizard genius .My idiot mates & I the king clown of clowns; we, to a man, all went completely octopus-sh*t mental-as-anything jumping & screeching like 8yr olds at the Royal bloody Easter Show - what a treat! It's the bee's knees, lizard's gizzards & the ducks nuts for sure.
Chick-magnet Rick Springfield is playing the white SG guitar. I never forgot this cover sped up & rockin' hard - thanks for posting this - I sent it to ALL my old mates from the 60's & 70's and they all went totally ape-sh*t ballistic crazy! Cheers again for posting this monster of an Eleanor Rigby version. This curmudgeonly guitarcheopteryx rockin' roller guitarcheologist really appreciates this post.. so thumbs👍up for this killer!🤯
You made 5 grown men act like kids again, they had PTSD when I showed 'em all this, they all remember it clearly cos it's unforgettable.

In perspective, the Zoot was the quintessential Bubble Gum band in 1969, and when they released this it was a whole new aspect of their versatility that was a shock and a very pleasant surprise to those of us who used to see them at our high school dances like Spectra at Waverley and Ashwood High schools, Rick Springfield's old high school. All top ten bands had to play pubs and dance venues three or four days a week in those times just to make a living, even if they had hits, as the music industry was supported by a very small population in those days. This version in this clip is nice. But as Lynixinursinks, i see it similar, some kind of music, some kind of songs, are made in the best, highist form. Also like Penny Lane, or A Day In A Life...like some from Elvis, Tom Jones, or Petula Clark...
From "Yesterday" are tousends of versions, may some reach the Orginal Level, but on top is this only orginal.
May my mind is so, i get the Blue Double LP "The Beatles in early 80's with age around 15, years later as CD, may i had so often the orginal version, that there is no place for other interpretions. When it if so, than it is so.
(i like also Donna Lewis..."I Could Be The One, ...I could be your europen dream..." or "Be the one" Dua Lipa, so not only older stuff music lover.

I moved out of home, into the ballroom of a stately home, in Toorak Rd, West, just off St Kilda Rd, when I was 15yrs old.(Rent free, don't know how I did it) I had the ballroom, the sitting room off it, a kitchenette, & toilet. The bathroom was up the grand staircase, upstairs.,Everyone lived just down the rd, The Zoot, who, I with them in their purple bell-bottomed jumpsuits, used to go into the city, them dressed like that. Micheal Gudinski, Aust's only real blues group "Chain", Masters Apprentices, Renee Geyer, Doug Parkinson, Skyhooks, I could just drop into anyone's at 2am, or, go window shopping down Toorak Rd. Then, later, When I was about 18, used to buy from clearing sales (Antiques/old furniture), & do them up & sell them on, or keep them. Daddy Cool's drummer Gary Young's father, with Gary helping him, used to deliver all the furniture to my house way, back then.
It was great. I'm glad I didn't take the little ad, in the newspaper for "room, in Brunswick, $10/week". I think I'd be well & truly cut up & in the freezer by now, going to live in a room across town, not knowing anyone. And, at least what you were taking then, you knew what was in it, unlike poor kids of today.

I remember Zoot playing in Eastlands Shopping Centre in Ringwood in about '70 [I think it was in the window of the record shop close to the entrance rather than the main foyer where 'guests' normally played ] and giving away free copies of this on weird floppy pink vinyl! The vinyl only lasted about 3 plays before getting worn out and by then you wanted a proper '45 that would last! Great marketing! But they went down a storm all the same! I was about 9 so it was my first 'rock concert'.....in a shopping centre in the Eastern Suburbs! Great, great memories!
