    I like the imperfection... but thanks for the tips. This is the first vid that actually explained well.

    *We hope you enjoy learning this simple "trick" to stop your paint bleed!* Next week, dad will show you how to mask an already-painted piece, and SHAPES (and what NOT to do too) 🙂Jess

    What do you do if you're background is multicolor?

    Hello,
    This is a very informative video about using painter's tape. As I'm watching it, a question comes to mind ... What brand or type of tape is best to use when you need to put it on an already painted surface (in my case, Acrylic paint) to make clean, straight lines of different colors on your painting. Should the tape be acid - free ? TY for answering if you can. And, thank you for sharing this video.

      We just use everyday masking tape, so it's very cheap and can be bought in a lot of places. You can use other tapes like Frog Tape or maybe even Painters Tape. You shouldn't need to worry about acid/acid-free, as it's very temporary and should not affect the colour of the paint.

      @@GoldCoastArtSchool That really cleared away a LOT of my worries about using tape on my paintings. I do appreciate your advice. 👍

    How do you make the circular tape, like the ones you have on the table in the ending? Thanks for the video - great stuff

      So dad used normal masking tape for this. He lightly marked where he wanted the circle to go, and then applied the masking tape inch by inch. There are two circles there, and one was done also using masking tape, and then cut in a circular shape for a nice smooth shape. In the sister video to this one, he shows this off a lot more so you'll get a much closer look at it 🙂 Jess

    Thanks for this video. I will definitely be doing this from now on.
    Maybe it's just me, but I didn't get the answer to the question asked.
    Can you just paint white around the tape or do you have to paint the rest of the canvas as well? I get the canvas wasn't good quality and I always re-gesso those canvases. But if I had a good canvas that's much bigger, can I just paint around the tape and not repaint the entire canvas?

      Hi Yasminni! Yes, you can just paint the areas close to the tape instead of the whole canvas. Much easier and cheaper to do that if you're working big too. You may need to be careful about texture, depending on what you're painting. The benefit of painting the whole canvas is the whole thing receives the same base treatment. If only painting a portion, like where the tape is, then ensure your brushstrokes are smooth and "fade out" in a sense so you don't see obvious textural paintbrush marks under your work. Hopefully that makes a bit of sense 🙂 Jess

      @@GoldCoastArtSchool Hi Jess. Thank you so much for your reply. It makes a lot of sense. I'll try both ways and see which one is better for me. With a small surface I'm probably gonna paint it all over. Thanks again, your videos are great!

    what if i have painted something on my canvas and would like to add straight lines on top without the bleeding?

    • @GoldCoastArtSchool
      @GoldCoastArtSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

      I reckon either have a nice steady hand and flowing paint, or extremely good masking technique. Depending on the type of paint, you could use a masking fluid.

    Why do you tape the edge of the canvas

    • @GoldCoastArtSchool
      @GoldCoastArtSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some like to have a clean edge, especially.for canvas boards as they can be easier to frame. But for this video, it was mostly for demonstration.

    So did you tape all the sides with the blue tape and then Gesso it?

    • @GoldCoastArtSchool
      @GoldCoastArtSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes for that piece. Since the background was white, taping then applying white or gesso (which is usually white) will help stop the colour paints from bleeding their colours under the tape 🙂

      I think we have some of that at the school here but I think it's super clapped out because it has lost all the sticky!
