I like your presentation. I want to paint over something with titanium white but I am still not sure which one, the soft or heavy-bodied paint, would provide more coverage.

I used to just use wax paper and throw it away after it dried (trying to be careful to mix only what I need for a single painting session), however I quickly found all sorts of things I could use that I would otherwise recycle. Cut up cereal boxes, plastic container lids, hard stock junk mail, product packaging, etc. I also use as little water as possible when rinsing my brushes, wiping the excess on paper towels before dipping into three separate (half-filled) quart containers: dirtiest, dirty, and clear. Between containers I blot on paper towels to confirm color is completely off. I then dump my dirtiest quart of water each day (rotating them out) into a 5 gallon paint bucket (lined with heavy duty trash bag) that is 1/3 full of kitty litter. The 5 gallon container with the litter fills up after about a week, whereupon I just throw the whole bag away. This makes me feel somewhat better about not contaminating our ground water with micro plastic

I only learned after a few years myself that Red, Yellow, Blue is a compromised colour wheel because its primaries aren’t true primaries. It’s a misinterpreted version of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (CMY) which contains the true primaries and that’s probably why Magenta fixed your purple problem :) The RYB model will always produce muddy colours because of its lack of true primaries (which aren’t pure) whereas CMY always produces vibrant colours because Cyan is the true Blue, Magenta is the true red, etc. As you’ve now seen in the example above.

Can you spray paint over a textured over an acrylic canvas that’s already been painted? I bought a textured canvas, and I don’t like the color. I want to spray paint it a metallic gold. What do I need to do before I start, so it will stick, and seal?

What do you do if you're background is multicolor?

What if i mixed a medium with the acrylic paint for it not dry quicker? Im having a hard time removing it with a soak. Ive only soaked it for a day at most but before i leave it for a week i was wondering if i need to do somethimg else because of the medium?

I hate these paint showcases like no one ever uses this much paint it's a waste and just do mix it up with a knife and then smeared all over the place I don't care anybody says that isnt art

Hi, glad that I found this helpful video. I just ran into some trouble with glazing. I did my underpaint in acrylic and then added highlights with zinc white. Luckily I did my first try on just a test and I removed lots of the white in the areas where I put it very thin. I did mix 50/50 turpentine and linseed. Need I go more on the linseed side or what could caused that? Brush was a soft wash brush.

Ufff they all look very bad, honestly you have to blend while it is still damp, once it has dried up you can try but it will never look as good as with wet paint.

Would you suggest painting with the canvas upright or horizontal. For these demos your painting surface seems to be horizontal. Does it matter?

This is so fascinating that grey is actually made with primary colours not just black and white. I never knew.

*Here's how you can easily mix a warm grey!* And hey, no black required 🙂 We use a very limited palette, because you don't need to buy lots of colours to make what you want. If you understand a little bit of colour theory, you can mix just about anything. We hope to see you again next week for the next one!
