  • No collars or ratchets, only threads. The Yankee Hill Machine Co SRX system is a much needed, long overdue, replacement for the Phantom QD family of mounts and muzzle devices. In this video we go over the mount, and the currently available muzzle devices.

    In my opinion, making a silencer with HUB compatability kindof already assumes people are going to use aftermarket mounts. I think you are spot on with the idea of yhm offering a silencer with no mount, or maybe just a direct thread adapter appropriate for the caliber.

    Quick pointer for the phantom qd mounts: if you screw your can all the way down on the collar (until it can’t possibly go any further), the collar will pop down a hair as the tooth is contacting a tooth on the ratchet. Rotate the collar counterclockwise and it’ll pop into place, completely securing the can with zero wobble or rotation. I figured this out by accident and it works perfectly.

      The industry doesn't have much of an incentive to develop a standard, considering most companies would rather just lock you into their ecosystem. Historically, most industry-wide standards, including MLOK, have resulted from military adoption. Unfortunately, the military hasn't used suppressors in large enough quantities to attempt standardizing on a mount for them, but that may be changing. However, if it does change, it will almost certainly be to whatever system the XM7 suppressors use, which would mean that the SRX will have a huge uphill battle to fight.

    -Wraith 9mm with QD mount
    -Old DT 5.56 phantom
    I’m a FFL/sot with the luxury of being able to tryout many suppressors. Plus seeing & hearing first hand all the customers grievances with other brands and mounting systems.
    Personally I gave up on All silencer co products (everything fell apart in the 1st year with 6+ rifle and pistol cans)
    I had better luck with my old cheap Huntertown arm’s products.
    Also I see lots of frustrations with Dead air Keymo users and SureFire socom guys.
    I just humbly share my experience of the awsom YHM stuff that’s $$hundreds less. Never had to use their warranty ,,ever!
    Go YHM

    I used to have a KeyMo on my Nomad-30. Now I have a Plan B and a Cherry Bomb. In the future my 5.56 can will be whatever Q’s cherry bomb compatible 5.56 can is, because I realize now that ratcheting systems and “QD” systems are just selling you extra weight. If I wasn’t a poor, I’d just direct thread, but I still don’t want to buy a dedicated can for each rifle.

    I got the Rearden R2S and it’s an A1 style so no timing as well my barrel has a “thread relief” on them so no washers or shims needed.
    I think the R2S is new and comes in a few designs

    If you order you can from Capitol Armory you save some money ($60 with my Turbo) by letting them keep the mount and or muzzle device. That why you not spending more money for the system you want on a budget friendly can.

    I enjoy YHM in general. Are they the best? No. Are they using the newest tech? No. But they have always had cheap suppressors that plain work. If NFA BS wasn’t a thing, I feel like having a few YHM cans for all the “extra” guns that maybe you don’t shoot as much or don’t care if your buddies mag dump out of. Not everyone needs to spend 1700 on an RC3. Glad to see they are listening (unlike say dead air) and I hope they start picking up on some of the low back pressure and 3d printed cans.

    Im looking at getting into suppressors in the near future and dont know anything about them but i [swear I] remember you saying that was the case but dont remember you going into detail about why
    Then again i could be wrong and you never said that

    • @EvilWiffles
      @EvilWiffles 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Direct thread is great for bolt actions. I don't know if things would change for semi's. I think it just depends on how good your barrel is threaded because some of them are terrible and don't stay tight. I use direct thread on the Ruger American 300blk with my Nomad-L and it's very solid. I sometimes have to use the adapter tool to loosen it off. But I'd imagine with semi-auto's, more constant movement would eventually loosen it overtime.
      I haven't bothered with Rearden or this mount yet but they seem pretty much identical to how EZ-Lok works for handguns. Once heat cycled, it'll be a bitch to remove. I had issues with that before and I'd always put a few rounds down range and then try and loosen and re-tighten the can, seems to help quite a bit. I wouldn't want this mounting style on a 5.56 gun because the cans get incredibly hot and take awhile to cooldown.

    • @randomidiot8142
      @randomidiot8142 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EvilWifflesdirect thread works on whatever you want it to.
      Direct thread 'takes longer' to detach and reattach. Direct thread needs no mounts, don't need to be timed, and the thread fits have a clear and objective standard beyond the bounds of the suppressor industry. Crap threads on a semi auto under a mount are the same as crap threads on a bolt gun holding the can directly. They're crap regardless.

    I feel like some of my Dead Air Keymo suppressors have the occasional muzzle device that they don't seem to lock up as well with, or it almost feels like the ratchet mechanism/retention mechanism isn't quite as secure, or needs a little extra twisting force. But overall it seems like a secure system, just wish it wasn't as heavy.

    ive tried both the Kurz and standard yhm mount on my Turbo T2, the initial expansion/blast chamber needs a lot of space/volume to cool and slow the expanding gasses down before even hitting the first baffle. Every suppressor design allows for a large expansion/blast chamber. Using the Kurz mount sacrifices some of that efficiency. Is it a huge deal? nah

    It's kind of funny how there was an arms race for the best QD mount for years, and it turns out the best mounts are just a simple thread and taper. Lightweight, never gets stuck, repeatable index, it doesn't seem like there are any downsides to plan b type mounts

    • @randomidiot8142

      Gemtech?
      The socket the suppressor needs to properly align on the a2 robs internal suppressor volume. The a2 is mounted with crush washers and isn't made to be a mount so concentricity will likely be an issue.
