- The Resonator isn't too shabby for a budget can, but the idea of swapping one suppressor between several hosts isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Watching hops finances improve over the years has been nice, from pawn shop pistols to NV and Suppressors. Great vid as always.
I agree, however after actually getting into the suppressor game, they actually aren’t all that expensive. Theres a few really great cans you can get with the stamp included and you’re only looking at 750

@@edmxero2029 Totally correct. Supply is restricted, so the price is high. Suppressor technology is pretty simple and they’re easy to manufacture. If they were treated like guns and not ATF restricted they’d be cheap and plentiful.
I don’t like to think of it as hearing damage. I prefer to think of it as, my ears permanently getting used to loud noises.

Resonator R2 owner here. Can confirm that a 10.5 300BO and 12.5 5.56 is "relatively" hearing safe. It's not painful and my ears do not ring. But I wouldn't want to shoot a whole magazine with it. It's kinda on that borderline. I think the added 6oz and length is worth it if I had to choose one base off your review. Great video! 👍

@@MannEliteI have an r2 on the way for a 10.5 300BO build I’m working on. When I did my research, I found a few vids on TH-cam and the R2 should make the gun completely quiet when shooting with subs. The only thing you should expect to hear is the cycling of the BCG. DB ratings on a couple vids showed it would be hearing safe. Again, this is with 300BO subs.
As an owner of a resonator K I can agree with pretty much everything you’ve said about the can. I think for the price point it’s a great can. I got mine about 2 years ago and it’s been used quite a bit with no issues.
Thank you for showing that squeeze method for tightening and loosening same shaft fasteners. I'm tired of watching people fumble and fight in those scenarios and ignoring helpful advice.
I went with the versatile can (omega36m) for my first one, you're probably right that it's best for most people to get a dedicated can first. But it is damn fun to throw on anything I want, and being able to swap between short and long configuration means I don't have the "man I wish I'd gotten the bigger can" issue you ran into.

I have the R2 and T2. In my experience both are awesome performance wise. However, I did ditch the YHM mounts and use a Plan B and rearden mounts, that shaved off both length and weight and made both cans considerably more manageable. Both have lived the majority of their lives on 11.5” 556 guns
Do you notice any difference in how they suppress a 5.56? And is the extra length of the R2 a detriment? I already have a Turbo K and have been debating between the T2 and R2 for my second can. It would also most likely live on an 11.5” for most of its life, but the ability to use it on a .308 for hunting is what’s got me thinking of getting the .30 cal can.

In my experience and from the input of the guys I train with, on 11.5” AR15 s we can’t audibly tell a difference between the T2 and R2. But running and gunning with them the t2 is noticeably lighter. However, that being said I started with the R2 since I also wanted a multi cal can, and I ran it hard with no issue on the 11.5 for over a year.
That’s funny I’m waiting on an R2 and T2 right now and I was really wanting to go with Rearden mounts as well. Have you had any problems with that set up? Mounts or cans?
@venton3 it really depends what you will be using it for. Heavy use, weekly range use, the bigger the better. If you talking about hunting, or home defense, the K will do just fine, compact and light.

I made a similar mistake. I thought I wanted one rifle can that I could put on anything I'd conceivable own, and I valued Quiet and Durable. Ended up with a Specwar 762 which is 9" long and weighs 24 ounces. Oof. Even on an 11.5" it's still ridiculous. I had the wrong priorities, in retrospect.
I did the exact same thing with a Saker 762, roughly the same size and weight. Kind of regret it. Even on my hunting rifle it’s a beast and adds too much weight and length. It’s ridiculous on my SBR. Currently have a Saker 556K in jail and if I like it, will buy more to have dedicated cans for each rifle. Standardizing makes sense to me.
@@benjamin3290 I'm looking at eventually replacing the specwar with a Saker 556, as I like the ASR system. Won't know what to do with the specwar after, though. It seems better suited for a mounted M240 than anything else
@@ReverendMeat51 Nice, I think SilencerCo is a good balance between quality and price. I actually do not like the ASR mounting system (not the best track record) and have converted to the Q Cherry Bomb / Plan B system. Big fan of the simplicity of that design (tapered threads, no locking gizmo that can fail)
@@benjamin3290 Interesting, never heard of it. Haven't had any issues with the ASR so far and at the time I bought it the Surefire system was the main competitor and had notable issues IIRC. It's been a decade since I last though about suppressors at all and I bet there's a lot of developments I've been sleeping on
@@ReverendMeat51 Yea there’s definitely some known issues with the ASR system and cans flying off the end of guns while shooting. Look into Q suppressors, their mounts may be something you’d be interested in.
Have this can and a Turbo T2 and fully agree with all your thoughts. The YHM mounting system is easy to use and adapt across multiple guns so I can swap these two cans around at a moment's notice with no hassles. The K trades suppression for high utility factor as you said, but I also have nicer suppressors that have more dedicated roles in my arsenal so it's nice to have a "beater" can to swap around on guns that don't necessarily have a higher-end dedicated suppressor paired to them. You're 100% correct about the idea of picking either QD or direct thread insert and then working around one of those mounting solutions full-time, as the walking-off issue is very real. I'm sticking with QD and I'm going to Rockset both those cans after watching this.

@@fun2916 I personally don't think you should get super spendy on a dedicated 5.56 can because it's pretty niche in terms of diameter unless all you ever shoot is 5.56 and 5.45...for that reason I think it's kinda the perfect dedicated 5.56 can. For the money it's totally adequate in terms of performance and form factor...not too big by current standards, not bad suppression, etc. You could easily spend 2x to just have something that's marginally better, or in the case of Surefire you could spend 2x to have something that's worse in every way. Honestly I would buy 2 of them if I needed a second dedicated 5.56 can. I wouldn't call it "fully hearing safe" with no ear pro, but on a 11.5 SBR it's absolutely hearing safe shooting right handed with just a foamie in my right ear, and I usually run foamies under electronic pro because I'm so paranoid about hearing loss.
@@strangelove770 appreciate the info. This can would be used solely on a 11.5 piston 556. I have a dead air keymo that is use on other setups. I just couldn’t pass on the good price for the turbo T2. Especially with the holiday pricing at the time I purchased. It was a steal. I’m just playing the waiting game now like everyone else.
@@fun2916 Yeah if you can get one under $400 pre-stamp it's one of the easiest buy recommendations out there. Like, yeah, they're a bit "dated" at this point and they're heavier and don't have as good sound suppression as some of the fancier new stuff...but the fact that you can almost get 3 YHM cans for the price of one current gen flow-through design suppressor makes it kinda stupid not to own 2-3 of these things if you're trying to build out a fleet of "beater" cans that will work on almost all your guns in a pinch.
I can attest that the full size R2 is much better sound reduction. I actually was shocked when I first shot it out of a 5.56 11.85”. I need ears… but it’s not uncomfortable to shoot without. Don’t recommend shooting without ears but it’s not gonna make ‘em ring. Very impressive for the price.

I was torn between this resonator K, some other "K" offerings, and a full length one. I went with the Rugged Razor 762, and am really happy with it. It's 6.4" long at 15oz, so similar to what you were mentioning with the R2 (can't beat Rugged's no questions asked lifetime warranty...). On my 300blk (supers) and 12.5 556 uppers it offers substantial noise reduction. QD is super solid, I've never experienced any movement or loosening while shooting, although I like how the YHM has a direct thread option for any build where the barrel terminates inside the hand guard. I think a full size 30 cal can, with perhaps a modular/shorter can for 556 specifically is the best of both worlds.
To use a muzzle device designed for a 90° barrel on a 25° tapered barrel, SIG and a few other companies sell an adapter to give you a 90° angle to safely use those muzzle devices. My MCX came with one.
I’ve had a T2 for about 2 years now. Absolutely love it & find it suppresses very well. Doesn’t add much weight either, even using the full size phantom qd. No issues with wiggle & I use it on 3 different AR’s. YHM makes great cans, I’ve got an R9 in jail currently & can’t wait to get it on my AR9.
Edit: I did Rocksett my qd mount to the can since I only use the YHM qd mounts.
i agree 100% with buying a dedicated can for your primary and then buy the toys or experiment later.
I have a TurboK (5.56) and it’s excellent for SBRs. Not super quiet, but definitely makes SBRs much more pleasant and if you had to use it without earpro you’d be fine. It’s probably my favorite silencers (out of about 12 or so). So much so I’m considering buying a second.
So please don’t think “all k-cans suck”.
I have heard the .30cal K-cans … and they ALL are terrible. All of them. Loud with .300BLK, loud with 556, ultra-fucking-loud with 308. I haven’t heard a caliber they sound decent on. Midsize-308 cans are about as small as you want to go with a .30 bore
I have a legacy Resonator and I love it. It's definitely not the best available now, but I've had it for a few years and am very happy with the purchase.
Good stuff Hop. I was on the fence but ultimately decided on the R2. It's still in jail unfortunately but hopefully I get that approval soon. Seriously considering the R9 as well.
YHM is a good bang for your buck. I started with resonator K cuz I wanted a can that would take the “edge” of most calibers I shoot and not be to atrociously heavy. Love that it’s a durable and versatile can but I also go a YHM R9 which is also good for 9mm and 556 and .308 out of a 16” barrel. The I got a turbo k in jail and it’s gonna be on my “go to GPR” AR 14.5”

What I did on my Turbo K, take the suppressor itself and use a high temp heat gun to heat up the can body then while super hot, tighten it to the direct thread adapter. That’s held up pretty well for me without loosening.

You’ll like the R9. I’ve had mine for a little over a year. I run it direct thread now instead of 3 lug. The three lug mount took up a lot of space in the blast chamber. I noticed it sounded better, on my hosts, with the direct thread mount.

A bit off topic but i have the Resonator for .300 Blackout from 4-5 years ago , and that suppressor is nice and quiet, no muff required. You just hear the gun cycle! From this review im glad that i went the route I did, because the K had just came out, but i was also looking recently looking at getting another suppressor for just 5.56. research needs to be done by me. Thanks for sharing your insight and info. Keep creating you your content it truly helps!
Fellow 716i tread owner, suppressing with a surefire socom 7.62, sig sells a “cheap” taper conversion ring to create a 90 degree shoulder for muzzle devices, it should work with the other direct thread mount and/or a QD devices. If that’s your jam.

The big takeaway imo is versatility can lead you away from being great to just being good. I think I will go with what hop said and get a dedicated can and go from there
Multi cal can is just to save money.
Dedicated will always be better, not only lighter but also will always be quieter because it fits the rounds properly. Vs using a 308 can on a 556.
I've got a Turbo K that I use as a dedicated can on my 10.3" 5.56 build and I can't say enough good things about it. Yeah, it's ugly, but it takes more than just the edge off and was quieter than I was expecting, cuts flash, and keeps the overall length of the gun + can shorter than my 16" rifle.

@@mrs.vasquezz You are not following. The buffer spring, bolt carrier group, and the pressure being released from the bolt carrier group while cycling is not hearing safe. Put an imaginary 500 baffle can on a 25 foot barrel on an AR and the moving bits you rest your cheek and ear on/right next to are still going to do damage to your ears. The muzzle end may be hearing safe, so yay for everyone else around you.

I swapped over to griffin mounts and have been a much happier person. Much more solid mounting system.
R2 Owner, I really like the R2 even with the added ounces, I run the Kurz mount and find it's not too heavy the best part is how quiet every rifle shoots with the R2. No problems with lockup or "wiggle".
I've added YHM mini flash hiders or brakes on every AR/bolt gun I have.

The r9 works decent on my 9” 300 blackout, hearing safe with subs but not supers
And it’s hearing safe on my 18” 308 bolt gun, And my 16” 5.56.
I also have a turbo k and I love it. I still wear ears with it, but if I’m firing just a mag I don’t have to plug my ears, or being that it’s on my bedside 14.5” 5.56 , i can defend my hallway without blowing out my ear drums.
Honestly if could only have 1 suppressor it would be the R9 for sure
P.S. use two wrenches and tighten the hub to the can with 35-40 ft lbs and it won’t come off, it says to do so in the manual.
I still think a good 6-8” 30 cal can is the way starting out. A) you can test out nearly every rifle as a host platform and B) invariably the most fun to be had with a suppressor is with 300 blk subs or 308 subs in an appropriate bolt gun. I also have yet to hear a 9mm suppressor I wanted over it’s 45 counterpart, even shooting 9mm.
So I started with a Bushwhacker 46 since it was my multical can, then I got a Sandman-S and really enjoy the length, suppression, and happy medium of weight. It’s significantly lighter than my 8” can and definitely isn’t too long for the aesthetics of an 11.5
I have both Resonators. I had a hard time deciding which one to get, and realized that there will be times I wished I had the other one. I found them at a good price, and buying both was about the same price as other manufacturers single can. In addition to being shorter and lighter, the K causes less backpressure. So it's better to use on gassy guns.
If you had to pick just one to use on an AR or short bolt gun which would you recommend? Also have you noticed a big difference in flash reduction?

I’ve got the DeadAir Sandman K and agree with a lot of what you said. They have their pros and cons, but at the end of the day, no suppressor is truly hearing safe on super sonic rifle rounds, so I’d rather just take the shorter and lighter can.
I’m looking into getting the T-2, because I’ve decided I’m tired of switching around configurations, so I’m wanting a dedicated 556. Thanks for the review!!

Have a turbo k on a mk18 w a plan b mount instead of buying the k kit- happy w it, probably less back pressure/ at ear db than the t2 and nice and short.
I've had that same unthreading issue on my Griffin can's mount. Put literally 1 drip of red loctite in the threads. It won't be enough to lock it on permanently, but it will prevent it from coming loose. Worst case if you fuck it up, most consumer ovens get to 450 degrees which is the failure point for red loctite.
Rocksett won't weaken with heat and comes off easy with hot water

I own 3 YHMs' (turbo k, Turbo T2, and Res. K). I found the weight and length savings of direct threading the suppressor makes a significant difference unless you absolutely need to QD mount it (i.e. a partially recessed barrel in a slim Handguard). Better off having dedicated cans with blue loktite on each firearm and I have had 0 issues with it walking loose after 2 years. If I could do something over again I would have bought the resonator r2 instead of the K for better DB levels.

My lgs said never use loctite because it can melt when hot. He said use rock set on the barrel thread and never seize on the can threads

I’m running the R2 with the Hanson Ti direct thread makes the longer 30cal can very light.
Got mine a few weeks ago. Black box subs in my 10in blackout are pretty awesome. Comfortable with no ears but obviously not for forever. Was surprised how much it tamed my supers but didn't want to take ears off for that one lol. It's dedicated to the blackout and I don't plan on shooting it without ears (except worst case scenario) so I'm pretty happy right now! Wish it wasn't so expensive to feed the damn thing lol
I own both the R2 and the K resonators, and I think your assessment is right on the money. I like the R2 for short barrel duty and 6.5cm PRS bolt action. The K use for longer barrel ar15s and ak (which suppress like shit anyway). R2 is MUCH quieter if that’s what you are after.

9:40 I agree with you there, I first went with a Rugged Razor 762 following the "get .30 cal" first idea. Now that I have an RC2 and a Recce 5, and if could start over I would have got those long before a .30cal can.

I agree. Even with 300blk subsonic the Resonator K is not that quiet. It is a noticeable reduction but not as quiet as some other cans I have used. Generally, I really like the YHM cans and the company. They have always been easy to reach, willing to help, and they offer a lifetime warranty. For the price, they are a good value and you cannot "go wrong" with YHM. The Turbo and Turbo K are both excellent for 556 and between those two, I recommend the K. There is little difference in sound reduction but the K is much shorter. I use the Kurz adaptors on all my YHM cans and it does offer a significant reduction in length. For the record, the Turbo is about the exact same size as the Surefire RC2 and the Turbo K (with Kurz adaptor) is almost exactly the same length as the Surefire RC2 Mini. The YHM cans are lighter than the Surefire cans.
Their warranty is not very good anymore. Unless its a manufacturing defect they will charge you to repair. Unlike most other suppressor companies such as dead air or rugged which have unlimited lifetime warranties

Will be pinned on a ~12.5" AK to keep it a rifle. No expectation of "hearing safe", but rather significant signature reduction. AK is so freaking loud with blinding fireball, this will tame that beast.
My first was a SilencerCo Hybrid 46. I (and my bank account) do not regret my decision. I do, however, regret not picking up a Salvo when they could be found for under $700.
Area 419 all the things. Love the flexibility that system offers both with muzzle devices and moving things like suppressors gun to gun. Not sure how it plays with Sig's sloped shoulder, but great on "normal" guns.
Hop have you tried Hi-Temp Teflon tape? I use it and it holds great! Additionally it removes.
My resonator is coming out of jail soon. Like you, I should have spent a bit more for a quieter can.
My first suppressor was a Griffin Armament M4SD-K. It’s heavy, 18.98oz with a small muzzle device included in that weight. It also seem like Griffin Armament is no longer supporting that line because they have discontinued most of the M4SD muzzle devices. I have a Turbo K and Resonator K in NFA jail. I wish I had just got the R9. But, the R9 and a Huxwrx Flow 5.56 will likely be my next suppressors.
I run mainly 223/556 & 9mm and thought about getting a 30 cal can just to have the option of multiple platforms but I went with the Saker 556 and luckily there was a BOGO deal which got me the Octane 9 as well and it can shoot 9mm as well as 300blk subs and I’m currently working on a 300blk build. Both cans are still in NFA jail and the Saker check cashed on 1/26 and the Octane on 5/6 still waiting impatiently on both lol

I have a Turbo and a R9, haven't ran 5.56 through the R9 but it's able to shoot a shitttttt ton of different calibers.
I have an R9 in NFA jail, I might use it as a .300 BLK/9mm can once it clears, and use the Resonator K for .308 stuff.

I went with a dedicated can right put of the gate, ended up going big for a can that was lightweight, short, low gas, and has great signature reduction while also claiming the top spot in terms of at the ear noise reduction. I wanted something that when added to my main squeeze I wouldn't find myself wanting to take it off for XYZ reason.
So far I really enjoy it, the only downside is that I can't take it home yet.
I picked up a Nitro N2 which is multi caliber and is awesome with 300 blackout sub and supersonic, 7.62x39 and decent with 5.56.
I had issues with the QD mount loosening when it got hot and I might need to rockset it. The problem with the Nitro N2 is its 2x the cost of the resonater and turbo's.

First bought and paid for suppressor for me was a Mist22 for a Ruger 10/22 because it was on sale. Second is an Omega 300 thats gonna be direct threaded onto my PSA JAKL.
I have not received either suppressor because the NFA is bullshit.

I really looked at this can but the QD system seemed subpar, so I figured I’d put a Keymo in. But then I realized by the time you buy keymo and a muzzle device, your money and weight savings are gone and you should just buy a deadair. So I ended up getting the SM K.
Alternatively, you get the sig taper delete accessory that gives you a proper 90 degree shoulder and mount a qd on your SIG.
Seems like it’s better to get the R9 instead of the R2K
That way you get the compactness and you have the ability to use on multiple hosts
On my turbo K + Plan B I chucked the can body up in a large lathe using a collet chuck, then used a socket on the Plan B, and completely filled the threads up with rocksett before tightening as much as I could muster… easily 90+ ft-lb

I have the original Resonator (full size) and I like it. Works on my AR10 and 5.56 (11.5" & 16"). Sample size of one as I've never had a chance to shoot the K. Just my $0.02.

I shot my Resonator K on my 8" 300 blk with supers at an indoor range and it sounded pretty good. At least to my ears. LOL I had a Griffin taper mount muzzle device on the 300 blk already so I just used a Plan A on the R2. I wonder if the Plan A mounts a little tighter and has a better seal than the YHM mounting system and could make it a little quieter? IDK I also have a Turbo 2 on an AR and it rattles as well so I'm thinking about switching it out to a Griffin mount too.
This is why I'm glad I just spent the money and got a dead air sand man s.

I'm coming from a full size specwar 556 and looking to shed weight and length. I guess you can always keep a longer can on for range and pop a shorty on for any potential businesses

Hotlock is good up to 2000F and it's tensile strength is around the same as Blue Locktite
So cost excluded, is there any downside to getting a titanium can to help mitigate the adding of weight on the end of the barrel?
Titanium cans are less durable and they shoot a ton of sparks

Titanium isn't used on rocket nozzles for a reason. Heat and abrasion nullify the benefits.
Titanium is a poor choice for semi auto center fire supersonics. Gets weak when hot
I have the full size Gen 1 Resonator, it’s definitely quiet on .300blk. It’s not bad on 18” 5.56 either

I'm currently 176 days in to my wait for my turbo k 5.56 (E-form 4 individual) I went for the K because 5.56 is never going to be quiet/ hearing safe, and I mostly want it for signature reduction at night with my PVS14. I'm also waiting for a GSL woodland for my .22lr guns

Your comparing the K can weight without the QD system to the R2 can including the QD mount. That makes it seam to be a 6oz difference when it’s really a 4oz difference.
Waterglass on the threads should be the correct threadlocker that will be heat resistant w/o creating a problem w/ locking the threads *too* much...
I hope you take a look at Otter Creek labs. They are making some great cans.
Also you should look at the Liberty Precision Machining and Rearden MFG Atlas mounts.
