I have owned two of these 640's and neither of them had the Magna porting. I think that must have been done aftermarket. I used to carry one in my vest as a backup, I really didn't like anything attached to my ancle since almost every night was a foot chase. Mine shot high but I replaced the front sight with a taller fiber optic sight and that fixed the problem. I never got used to the trigger and wound up selling both. I'm in the market for a six shot snubby now just because. I have my Dad's old Colt Cobra but it cracked (where they all do) right under the barrel so I'm not buying any Air weight or light weight revolvers. I like steel and I don't have to chase anyone anymore anyway so weights not a problem, I'm retired!
@paulkopacz5051 Same here. I want steel frame. I will take the weight for more durability. Now if they made a lightweight alloy frame that was hard enough and durable enough then I might change my mind.
I have a 640 for my EDC. I painted my front sight traffic yellow which I do with all my guns. I have also put a set of Crimson Trace green laser grips on it. It's a great gun but you're right, I don't shoot .357s in mine either. A half a box of .357 silver tips left the web of my hand sore for a day. .38 +P is plenty for me.
'I've shot paper plates for years, the paper is thick enough that the holes don't close up so one can see the holes from quite a ways off. Also the 8 inch circle is pretty close to the heart lung area on an adult male.
Good video and spot on about testing POI on chosen ammo. I had a 640-1 that I traded off years ago foolishly, and now in the process of replacing it. To me, its fhe perfect all steel snubby.357
ha, I just got a 640 Pro Series this week! Think I'm going to put Altamont grips on it - they have a model of grip (The "Bateluer" model) that fully covers the backstrap but isn't full length, so it should be cozy in hand but still a good carry option. Speaking of, how do you feel about hard cast wadcutters as a carry option? My current thinking is that I want low recoil so i can fire fast but accurately, so standard pressure .38s are in order. However, I can't really trust any hollow points to expand at the velocities that .38 is capable of. Thus, my first choice for carry ammo to test is the 150gr hcwc from Underwood. What do you think?
Now I need to get a 640😂. One thing I will say about the federal American eagle 357 mags, is Through a 4 and 6 inch barrel 357's I get about 1,000-1,100 fps not even close to the 1240 fps they claim. Before I had a chronograph I had a model 340pd in 357 mag and those federal American eagle 357's hurt to shoot.

Can't go wrong with a no-lock J frame. I carry my S&W 442 no-lock with 150 gr hard cast wadcutters everyday down here in Springfield, MO.
