  • Posting this in memory of George Younce, the greatest bass singer of all time. There were a lot of people that could sing lower, but in my opinion, nobody could deliver a song with as much emotion and feeling as George could. Hope you enjoy this touching moment from one of George's last performances!

I’m laying here with tears rolling down my cheeks. My dad and I were eating at the Cathedral Buffet in Akron Ohio, and George and Glen were there. I don’t know why they were there, but as they were leaving, George came over to where we were sitting and started talking. It was a slow time and it wasn’t very busy in the buffet. He talked to me and my father.
Then he looked me straight in the face and said, “Son I want to ask you something, if you were to die, where would you spend eternity?” I was at a crisis point in my life that even my parents didn’t know about.
I remember that I was at a loss for words. He and Glen both got on each side of me and prayed right there in that buffet that God would fill me with His presents and guide me in my life. They didn’t judge, they didn’t ask for details, they prayed for God’s leading on my life.
I have never felt that their prayers were not the inflection point that turned me back to God. I bless their memory and their actions. I have tried to daily look for ways to show God to a hurting world.

So beautiful! What a blessing. They didn't just talk the talk, they walked the walk. Thank you for sharing this.

That is the most powerful story I've ever heard regarding George Younce. Shows that while he was an amazing singer, his heart was on God, on people, and on the Gospel. Thank you. Share that story every chance you get brother!!

How can it be? I never met George. I live in another country, and I was only 10 when he passed away, having no idea what Southern Gospel Music actually was... And here I am crying for someone I never knew and never will know...

I remember the very first time I ever met him (1980’s). He, and the rest of the Cathedrals were the nicest to a teen back then who could only ever dream of getting to do what they did back then. From that point forward, each time I saw them in person, it was like meeting my hero’s all over again for the very first time time! Were my hero’s, are my hero’s and will always be my hero’s

I'm so glad you posted this wonderful video. It's hard to believe George has been home for 15 years now. I've been a fan of The Cathedrals for many years. I remember seeing them several times at Bethel Temple in Evansville IN, including the years when Ernie Haas and Scott Fowler joined the group. My favorite grouping was George, Glenn, Scott, Ernie, and Roger. But no one could sing a song the way Glenn and George did. I miss those guys, but I'm glad I can see them on TH-cam.
