Your video boost examples absolutely looked the best in virtually every example you showed. In comparisons for pictures, I preferred the Pixel virtually 100% of the time. I honestly do not understand how reviewers will say they like the aesthetics of the iphone pics or video better when I personally would pick the Pixel the majority of the time.
I'm convinced that these types of reviews are really intended for other tech reviewers and not for us the average consumer. They all repeat the same script in hopes that they get accepted in that snobby tech circle they all die to be part of, so if it means always defending Apple and bashing Google no matter what, well guess what? They will do what it takes as long as they are accepted in that fake community.
The star photos I have taken on my Pixel 8 have been absolutely insane. Even in a bright city. The Astro Mode on these phones is impressive to say the least. Everyone I show these photos to has been mind blown it was shot on a smartphone.
Pixel's video boost hands down is setting a new video night sight trend on smartphones here in the US 🤯 It reminds me how the Pixel 3a's Night Sight destroyed the iPhone's bragging narrative a few generations ago.😂😂
I watch all of your videos on my 65 inch tv and every video looks so beautiful! The cinematography is my favorite part of this channel. Keep up the great work!
For regular users I'd say Pixel 8 Pro. My wife has the 15 and whenever we're out she'll ask to have me use my phone for the photos. Not everyone wants or needs to be a pro level editor or videographer but the fact that phones make it easier to edit without a learning curve is great. Not to mention that many of the Pixels Features can continue to be updated and expanded over time where the iPhone is more limited and likely to not have added camera features like the Pixel.
"it's silly but I prefer to have an option" Fun fact you do, there is a setting that makes photos processing regardless of you shooting new ones, allowing you to take more of them in the same amount of time, and processing them after you finish.
I've been watching a lot of videos day after day about smartphones specially the camera part. And i enjoyed when you compared raw photos in full resolution. Thanks
Great review! Unlike a lot of other videos I've watched (to help make an upgrade decision), this one really digs into some details I had been wondering about. I want so badly to leave iPhone behind (again), so these deep-dives help tremendously. Also, you live in one of the most beautiful parts of our globe!
Well, I think iPhones are a lot more punchier and contrasty like the older Samsung's. Also, I don't like the yellow wax skin effect on them. Pixel is much more neutral if not natural. Also in my testing, P8pro with video boost is better than my 15 pro max in low-light videos. Standard videos are still better on the iPhone but that's by a small margin now. And for me the AI tools on the Pixel are way more practical than various shooting modes on the iPhone. Cheers 🥂
@@Jo5ue1 Actually, they hated the oversaturated, contrasty and brighter look on the older Samsung's and praised the natural/neutral look of the iPhone's. But now when iPhones have started copying the older Samsung's look, suddenly the photos from Pixel are undersaturated, dark, underexposed.... 🗿
So basically to get the most out of the iphone, video LOG files especially I need to have some editing skills which I dont have. I will gladly pick the Pixle 8 Pro which does it all for me, Video Boost looks amazing. Im not a pro, Google made a phone that anyone can use to its full potential day one
When a boosted video is shared via Google Photos and subsequently downloaded or saved to another account, it is saved or downloaded in 1080p rather than the original 4K resolution, resulting in a downgraded version. Are you experiencing this issue on the Pixel 8 Pro? Essentially, the 4K version cannot be located on the device, and sharing it via Google Photos for download is not possible
AFAIK Video Boost will not cost you extra space for storage. The original (raw-ish) video is deleted after you got the boosted version and the boosted version in my experience (most of the time) is smaller than if I shoot the same in 4K without Video Boost. I think this is because of less noise and better stabilization.
it kinda does cost more storage temporarily, but u can delete the original file, won't do it automatically tho, the boosted is smaller yes but somehow when I record and select especially 4k in app it's still an 1080p video (at least if i look into the information on the file) and after boost it's 4k
@@Vss077 FYI It is not the 1080p file that gets boosted. There are two original files that are recorded at the same time, one is 'raw-ish' meaning not much is done to the sensor data, just saved to a large file. This is the file that gets boosted/processed on Googles servers. The other original file (just 1080p) is mostly for viewing while you wait for the boosted version (which is 4K). And you are correct, this 1080p file is not automatically deleted after you receive the boosted version. I hope there will have a setting soon where you can choose to always automatically delete it. I don't see any reason to keep it, except for if the boosted version would be bad (hasn't happened to me).
This is one of my top 3 reviews of this phone, the reviewer mentions slower shutter, missed shots etc, actual problems you will encounter. I am tired of crappy reviews saying it is a phone of the year, it is definitely not.
Brandon, may have been a small mention in the entire video, but I'm very interested in how you organize your photo backups offline. Istarted my photo storage with cloud storage but now I'm interested in future lossless or high quality local! Would love to hear your recommendations and best practices for normal people to get off cloud storage as their main backup.
Buy or build a nas Synology or qnap are mainstream favourites for prebuilt Or go ahead and research how to build a nas , I personally just built mine with pure SSD storage and m.2 cache and run it with unraid. I now use this as my local backup and it has redundancy built in using raid 5. I also use Google one cloud storage
There is a pan mode on the Pixel 8 Pro that you can use instead of what I was doing but if you don't want to swap into that mode a tripod or mini phone rig is probably your best bet.
You mentioned you don't use Google Photos for storage - what do you use? I'm not a professional, but I enjoy taking photos and videos of my friends and family with my A7C. I store on a local drive and Photos - but would be interested in hearing what you (or others) use.
For me, when I try to shoot the Video Bust 4k HDR, the source processed for the Video Boost is 1080. And then it is being upscaled in the cloud. Overall, I dislike this feature. It doesn't do much to improve the video, for example, when you are moving. And the results are pretty frustrating, especially considering the time required to get the boosted video.
I got the iPhone 15 plus because of the 5.99 deal right now but contemplating on returning it for the pixel 8 pro. I’ve read about bugs plaguing the 6&7 so don’t want one with bugs. Any suggestions?
I think you Full understand how important colour boost features is , first of all for iPhone to give best video It must be shot in prores log which comes with big file size and in this apple has incentive sell you iCloud storage is required because of file size, difference between prores and h265 is nigligible for iPhone ,why use prores when they could have added log to Normal h265 video and increased bitrate to 100mbps with no sharping which other mirrolless camera do atleast the give different options and other smartphone also shoot in log on h265 or h264 ,it's like apple is dumb and they didn't give prores and apple proraw on to normal non pro model form 13 pro onwards with 14 and 15 having a15 and A16 , if you want to shoot for best image quality who is gonna grade it . if you good output you have to garde it properly and don't forget apple log contains lots of noise so you have to do noise reduction on video which Google does on cloud for free which you pay in video editing software , with all that does average consume get benefits of this no , that when video boost come in to enhance your video simply shoot in mode it will get send to the cloud it will do the necessary tweaks in footage with highlights and shadow to look video great without anyone help , it like someone is doing colour grading for you and output is good in daytime as for night it is mast have feature only downside is see is oversharping is video if you can just reduce clarity slider for video to get best image quality , this very important because phone lack hardware they can make up with software and I think current 8pro is on par with 15 pro with 15 pro lossing here and there for image and video
I can tell you that the slow shutter capture is mostly sensor issues. Unfortunately, Samsung sensor is far too slow in buffering than Sony. It's the reason why photos are faster to capture on the iPhone. Heck even Omnivision is starting to catch up in Sony. I just hope Google returns to Sony for their Pixel 9 series. It's at least reduced the buffering issue Pixels have since the 6 Pro.
Hard to pick a winner. Some shots I liked pixle, some shots I liked the apple. Considering I just got a pixle 8 pro on sale for 25% off however the choice of which to buy was easy.
At first I thought the video boost just upped saturation but after looking at your face, I'd noticed that it looked somewhat flat compared to the video boost version. Might just be me but I do fin that suspicious and interesting Edit: can you show us a video from the pixel phone where you use an external app so I can confirm if it's just their processing?
I would say it's not as accurate atm, prob if u have 2 devices making the same video and boosted u will get different results. as said it's AI cloud based means it could (and prob will) look totally different compared to now. I've seen multiple comparisons now which here it looks rly good on daylight but on a different vid I've seen someone that had totally overblown light sources and wrong color matching.

I guess only 1-2% of iPhone pro users currnty use pro-res log, in my opinion professional editor needs better file so they prefer big mirror camera instead of iphone (pro-res log). video boost is more useful we don't have to do anything cloud provide completely free.

I think tech reviewers nowadays really lost all perspective on what the average consumer needs or requires. These TH-cam creators are getting very snobby and they kinda make these reviews for each other (the tech community) and not for the average consumer. Of course, as a "pro" or experienced tech reviewer the video Boost is going to come off as a big waste of time, why? Well because you can do that same editing in five minutes not in 12 hours. But for the rest of us who are not content creators or have a TH-cam channel, what Google is offering to us is awesome. It's basically Night Sight for videos and guess what? it works. The same thing goes for the AI Photoshop features that the Pixels come equipped with. Sure as a techy you know what to use to edit your photos and videos but for the rest of us, it's a real convenience to have that already installed in our phones. So stop whining and complaining only because you are part of those tech snobs who get together and agree on bashing one brand and defending the other one, no matter what.
