I think the early 2010's Canon DSLR's is how most of us got our start into "cinematography" instead of "videography". Being able to use vintage glass primes I'd find in thrift shops for $10-20 with adapters really made me think about my framing and focus.
The Canon 700D was my upgrade from the Canon XHA1 HDV camera which just looked like broadcast video.
Even though the Fuji was so much better than the Canon in your side-by-sides, on their own the Canon footage still holds up thanks to great framing and lighting which really speaks to your skills as a cinematographer!

Awesome video man. Really loved that comparison at the end, it's wild to see those differences after all these years! I missed the second shot though, but saw immediately once your partner started pointing out the differences!

Great video so far but you may want to re-think your font choices at around 5.59 if you do another video with similar slides. It's hard to read and the wriggling is distracting. And now back to video

I got all 3 shots correctly, but from the dynamic range side more than the sharpness, because I'm watching on a 14" laptop screen at an unoptimal distance
BTW I still own a 60D until now, and I still love it, even after upgrading to EOS R system

    • @rishi-m
      @rishi-m 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah, I used dynamic range as a distinguishing feature as well in the first two shots, the last shot with the cat, the difference in the fur was rather evident, which could be attributed to better ISPs?

Super video! Could you maybe for the next episode compare the 60D and maybe even XH2-S to a mobile camera? Any semi-modern Android with MotionCam will do. That will allow full ProRes or RAW video which should be even more powerfull than the iPhone

Nice one Brandon! Yeah I absolutely agree. A lot of the 'professional' gears are for pros for a reason and one should always choose their gear after assessing their own empirical use cases and needs. Of course this is already difficult enough for newbies like me, added to that the general dominance of consumerism and manufacturers constantly coming up with whatever that's more betterer, you just feel pseudo 'need' to upgrade whatever gears you've got. I've got a Tascam recorder, it's a D70 or something and it works absolutely fine. But for the past year I've been struggling to suppress the urge to get a MixPre 3. Like I knew the MixPre is better than the Tascam in pretty much every single aspect, it even looks better. But I also knew that realistically I don't need it, at least for now. Still, the urge persists.

    Interesting journey. ✨
Mine is similar. I started with the Canon 7D + 28f1.8 and my iPod touch, swapped the 7D to the Sony a7II briefly, to then upgraded to the Fujifilm X-T2 + 27f2.8 and X70. Now I've finally come full circle with the Canon R8 + 35f1.8 and Ricoh GRIII.
I'm still waiting for a nice 40mm equivalent like i started with on my 7D, but it's more or less full circle. 😂

I'm a gimbal shooter, I've never used cages, side handles, top handles (apart from on FS7/FS6 style bodies), and rarely need a follow focus because of the functionality of cameras these days. I only bother with monitors when I'm on a static shoot - as run and gun they add weight, power requirements and most cameras can zoom right into pixels while shooting to check focus anyway.
There are a lot you can go without here. However, that adjustable plate, rigging cameras with V-lock instead of expensive internal batteries, and a range of ND filters are essential. These days, if you buy a V-lock with USB-C PD and your camera can accept USB-C PD while shooting, it can be even cheaper than buying dummy batteries (but this setup can be hindering on a gimbal).
Definitely agree with the sentiment about using the Kit Superzoom and find the focal length you find most useful. I love 65mm FF. Just wish Sigma would release their 65mm F1.4 for Canon Ef or Sony E mount....

I did get the three samples right, but it's not double the quality, let alone triple. If the videographer does his or her part, as Mr. lee does, and the glass is good, the 60D produces more than good enough video for social media, especially considering the equipment most often used to view it.

Something odd with the audio for this video. Its quiet and sounds tinny and compressed.
Compare it back to back with another video.

You nailed one thing but didn't expand on it... My Canon 80d videos looks fine in perfect studio lighting, (A bit saturated perhaps, but whatever) Vs. my Sony FX3 looks fan-f'n-tastic and is a pleasure to film in any situation. As a casual hobbyist you'll find out soon that strapping audio recorders to your body isn't as practical as one hoped.(I did it too, funny how my 80d rigged out for video looks just like your Canon 60D)
