      Ikr. She's obviously at least mildly homophobic if a guy wearing girls jeans throws her off. Would hate to see her reaction to the entire 80s

    • @sholem_bond
      @sholem_bond 2 ปีที่แล้ว +527

      She came across as so judgmental and juvenile, in that particular cisheteronormative way some straight people are, the whole show. She'd literally rather have a gender-conforming guy who seems like a serial killer or abusive than date someone who's GNC or just maybe a guy who's not very masc. If that Michael guy was actually bi, she would definitely have been turned off by the idea of that and for no other reason.
      She came off like the kind of person who's learned everything she currently knows about relationships and men from reading those magazines that tell you how to specially tilt your head to signal the inner alpha-ness of your boyfriend or whatever, and from sitcoms where everyone hates their husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend. Just... peak hetero

    • @theronis
      @theronis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@sholem_bond lol what? idk his explanation for the trunk thing makes it a lot less weird and more of him trying to phrase it badly for the suitcase just for the drama and then explaining its not that bad.
      plus that Michael guy was weird af aside from that, so even minus the jeans and trunk thing he's a bad choice.
      also abusive? what? whats abusive about protecting a drunk person from idk, causing a car crash while they're driving? sure it wasn't the best way for him to deal with it but he said he was in college so he was young and maybe he didn't have any other options.
      lastly the way you're speaking so derogatorily about straight people pisses me off, you obviously think some sexualities are superior which is just as bad as being homophobic. just accept that everyone is different and move on.

    • @lizc6393
      @lizc6393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@sholem_bond She's clearly vain, ignorant, and shallow... but why is "peak hetero" a default insult? Don't spread the same flavor of hate towards straight folks that's typically thrown at the GNC crowd.

    • @theparkourhobo
      @theparkourhobo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +166

      @@lizc6393 Usually when someone calls someone else "peak hetero", that really means something more along the lines of "judgemental about other sexualities and extremely insecure about their own" (I think it may even be short for "peak heteronormative", although that's hard to know for sure). For instance, someone buying into all of the stereotypes about what sexuality is, like thinking that wearing jeans from the "wrong" section makes you gay, would be an example of someone being "peak hetero", but a man marrying a woman wouldn't be. No one really believes being straight is bad in and of itself (gay/bi people have got plenty of experience with where that road goes).
      That said, none of that context is clear when someone says "peak hetero" if you haven't heard it before - it sounds pretty bad on it's own, and it's usually only said in queer communities, so it's not really fair to assume everyone will understand it and not be upset when they hear it in a random conversation. (Honestly I wish it was worded differently, but it's kinda hard to shift course now that it's caught on.)

      @@jajdhck ah, gotcha! Yeah, it’s ridiculous that someone like that guy would go into very body positive spaces but, at the same time, it’s unsurprising as people like him are generally extremely narrow-minded and think dumb shit like “only hot skinny people would go and show off, duuuuuhhhhh” and it’s just absurd in so many different ways. God forbid people are going there to be comfortable around like-minded individuals, no _obviously_ people only go there for if they’re “hot” and they _definitely_ want to get hit on and not just enjoy a nice day at the beach [insert world’s longest eye roll here]
      (also I'm using “hot” in the narrow-minded way of people like him use it, where they think their idea of what’s attractive is the end-all-be-all whereas literally every single person - even people like that - has a different opinion on what traits are and are not attractive to them that builds into their unique idea of what makes someone physically attractive)

      [CW: murder]
      Do you know about the US serial killer, Rodney Alcala, who went on an episode of The Dating Game in 1978 and won?
      The woman didn't go through with the date because she found him creepy. But the fact that he won says a lot about dating shows, at least here in the US.
      It's performative. A performance. Men come on to act out a certain type of traditional masculinity.
      Sometimes people enjoy acting for fun. Maybe a guy goes on a dating show to kickstart his acting career.
      Some men always perform the same role and take it REALLY seriously. They are the ones who bring the creepy vibe, I think. Them and anyone else on the show who takes it way too seriously.
      They are the ones who are liable to hurt others. It wasn't a dating show per se, but you have the example of gay man Scott Amedure being murder after his appearance on The Jenny Jones Show. He surprised a male friend on an episode of the show by telling him he had a crush on him.
      The male friend self-identified as straight, but had a super homophobic father so if he was queer he probably repressed it. He was very serious about presenting himself as a macho, straight man.
      So he killed Amedure after their appearance on the show, for making him look less masculine.

"i cry over a show", "i want to adopt children", both instances which can be easily twisted into something positive. makes me feel like they're only shields for the shit that's actually wrong with him, which also isn't hard to believe given he already followed up two nonissues with "btw i locked someone in the back of my trunk lol :P". dude seems skilled at covering up his worse qualities
    also the way he completely switched up his personality at the end.. at the mere prospect of answering 40 questions about himself? "seems intrusive" you just went on a dating show about sharing your baggage. and that comment alone 100% cements in my mind that he wasn't even fully transparent. you mad about spending some quality time just talking about yourself..? undoubtedly suspicious i swear to god
    like, fuck tommy obviously, but a dude that is secretive is often worse than one that's open. one can be avoided, the other is already trying to carefully construct a narrative around himself so who knows what other way they're gonna fuck you up.
