Fun fact the woman in the Kirby T-shirt was one of my English Teacher in high school! She's super nice and cool, I saw this episode a few years back and asked her about it. She said she was at the convention and the T.V. crew basically just asked as many people to join and so she said yes. She said he was a really cool guy, just really shy and a tad awkward when the cameras were on, but off he was more relaxed. She wasn't interested in anyone from the start and was ready to leave but chose him because he was alone and with the pressure of the cameras it would've been sad once it aired. She's not one for 'lets date off the bat' but more 'slow and steady' and she was many there to just make friends so she told him that. Apparently she got like a lot of hate/mean comments about the situation when it aired.

I was a volunteer at Phoenix Comicon in 2012 and 2013. I helped with the geek speed dating, and the Game Central in the second building. The guy who runs the speed dating does it at most of the cons, is super sweet and has actually helped nerds get together and get married despite the overflow of cringe. He has a conversation with the women before the men are allowed in the room so that if they feel uncomfortable they can discreetly signal and they guy will be removed from the situation. Men have to pay to participate, but we had to stand in the hallway asking women to come in and fill out seats (free of charge,) even if they had boyfriends to even out numbers
