For me, Mayoi Jiangshi is S tier. The concept of butterfly effect is wild. If Hachikuji didn't get ran over by a truck 10 years ago, humanity would have met its demise. Seeing how remorseful Shinobu was for the potential actions is also profound. And of course, the final confrontation between Shinobu, Araragi and alternate Kiss Shot made me cried a river. We expected a grand battle, but what we got instead was a broken and anguish woman filled with regret and sorrow pleading to be pat on the head by her long gone partner
Monogatari series is the only thing I rewatch time to time, so I watched Jiangshi a couple of times. But only 10 years after it's premiere I lifted this arch to the top of my tier list (and yes, cried like I rarely did before with both Shinobus, except for it was tears instead of blood), so maybe he is not ready to watch this arch through the eyes of Shinobu, who lost everything and failed even in suicide, and I hope will never be.
You did tsuki dirty! Ok it's mostly set up for the final saga, but it's good setup. With Teori being "cast" and all the becoming a vampire stuff, with the doll there to further the discussions on humanity. Plus Ononoki is just the best 10/10. Yay, peace peace.
Yeah definitely higher than c tier, I like how bittersweet the ending was. And how the mystery was two sided, how it was really about Araragi himself. Personally A tier for me
Both Sodachi arcs in A tier is based as hell. I'm definitely biased because Sodachi is my favourite character (please god, let Sodachi Fiasco get animated) but those arc stuck with me so hard
I still think the greater arc of Sodachi is peak monogatari. Ougi Formula, Sodachi Riddle, and Sodachi Lost are the best. It starts up with a magnificent story that presents an important explanation to who Araragi is and talks fantastically about what Truth really... and why Truth can be talked about ethically rather just epistemologically. Then we go to talk about who Sodachi is why she was KEY to Araragi as a person, that if it wasn't for her Araragi would not be who he is today, and yet tells a sad story of a girl that was asking for help but didn't know how, and how it is very easy to lose sight of what is in front of you for innocent egotistical reasons (why Araragi never noticed how bad Sodachi's familial situation was). Then we finally conclude with meeting the real Sodachi (sort of; see Zoku Owari for further explanation) and what has been happening to her... and ultimately learning that her blaming Araragi (which we have also learn to sort of do with what we've learned) is just a coping mechanism, and she knows it but can't seem to let it go. She feels like she needs to blame someone, and it cannot be her family or her because it would break her beyond repair, but blaming Araragi helps her go on. It ends in Sodachi accepting the truth (see the masterful overarching theme of these episodes?!) and deciding that she will do her best to move on and accepting reality as it is, culminating her departure as an allegory for starting a new chapter in her life. Sodachi's Greater Arc is the best the series has to offer. I am a HUGE fan of it. Of course, everyone is entitled to the things they enjoy, but I simply want people to give this part of the story more credit and more love.
I personally love Sodachi's Arc as well. I can see why people would say that it's hard to follow and that sometimes the examples seem kind of extreme, like Sodachi not realizing that her mother is deceased, but when you consider that every Monogatari Character has their own view, then it makes a lot more sense. It's how Araragi doesn't see any background characters, he doesn't care about them, meanwhile someone like Hanekawa sees Araragi as a white knight in Hanekawa Tiger, which is why he looks so badass. It's the reason why sometimes the perspective completely changes, because we are seeing the story from the perspective of another character, and not just from the perspective of the viewer himself. Araragi never wanted to acknowledge how bad Sodachi's situation was, and so he ignored all of the details, forgetting every single bit and piece of his actual time there with her. Meanwhile Sodachi just didn't want to acknowledge what had happened to her mother, her life was already in shambles, and the only way of moving on for her back then was through coping by any means necessary, even something as extreme as showing blissful ignorance for her deceased mother. It really goes to show how widely different the characters view their worlds, and what they do to go on in life. Hearing Sodachi's Monologue was heartbreaking for me because I have seen a similar story play out within my own life, and I'm so happy that Nisioisin didn't hold anything back for that scene. It honestly hit me so hard to hear what Sodachi thought about the concept of happiness and how she would break under its weight, and Sodachi coming to the conclusion that she needs to hate Araragi to move on. It was truly an amazing story-arc for being a meager 6 episodes long
Glad to see more Monogatari content. Always welcome. You messed up a little by not mentioning Kanberu and Shinobus convo impact on the ranking of Shinobu Mail.
Mayoi snail was the easiest to understand of bakemonogatari, a killer mystery and reveal, the park episode and the confession. Easy s tier. Id also put zoku in s tier for the amazing reveal , the bizzareness the final chat with senjougahara . Honestly monogatari is just an s tier anime. A clasiscal masterpiece
@@Riavens_ゼロゼロ一 it was the second arc of the series you think i was used to that stuff? No it drove me a bit nuts It was only later when it became a habit to glue your eyes to the freaking subtitles😂

Doing an OP tierlist of Monogatari is suicide, because you either have to put Platinum Disco or Ren'ai circulation first, and whichever you put second will always get you hate
@@wiktord9264 She died when she was 11, but she has been a ghost for 10 years. This is why, when they go through that arc where they see the world if she had survived the accident, she is that hot onee-san. She is two tropes in one.
I gotta say shinobu time was one of the true reasons why Monagatari is so special to me. And i realized this when well imo one of the most funny and bizzare arcs to then hit us with a reality that well made sense but made you cope just like araragi thinking if there was another way when there wasnt. The tone shift is seemless and literal perfection on how it ends and it genuinely left me coping for a few seasons. And for then to have Mayoi Hell be a suprise when i thought after 2 - 3 seasons she wasnt coming back genuinely felt like a gift i didnt think i deserved tbh. I dont know like shinobu and araragi, Mayoi's and Araragi relationship felt also very personable like a companion or fun buddy that u always have around and Imo the most enjoyable duo to see on screen conversating. And like agh them having there little banter that was only bewteen them and AGH ITS SO GOOD IDK. Like i dont normally get sad or cry over anime but i swear i nearly shed a happy tear when they showed her with a new op and everything in mayoi hell 😭😭. This is just my exprience tho but i see others with many other diffrent favorite arcs and characters and reasons why they like them in all in many dynamics ways and just to show god. Monagatari is just peak bro.
I think I'm a bit harsher in my rankings than you are! I love the franchise as a whole too, but the only two arcs I usually put in “S” tier are Koyomi Vamp (duh) and Mayoi Jiangshi (The scene where Koyomi and Shinobu confront the grieving, omnicidal Kiss-Shot always hits me hard.) I also rank the Nisemonogatari arcs (Karen Bee and Tsukihi Phoenix) lower as well. They're still good, and do a lot of things right (Kaiki is one of my favorite characters), but they do meander a LOT where it feels like they're just marking time.
Thanks for the vid, obv i disagree with stuff here and there cuz opinions differ but i enjoying watching ur takes on things. i personally advise you to rewatch Yotsugi doll, it is arguably the most fascinating arc(the most meta one too) and a great setup for things to come in Final season.
this is my personal opinion but I really love ougi formula specially on rewatch the fact that you have basically araragi cromfromting is past and himself+ all the mistery and the final revelation that feels so real, like I have been in moments where I see people that I know from a long time loss their way and do questionable things that make me wonder if I can really have someone who I can really trust (Yes I have huge trust issues) and how that make araragi lost is faith in people hits really hard, also I always have hated how the social presion and the desire of go with the rest makes you lost your individuality and even your capacity of think by yourself its so hard since for almost all of my chilhood I was like this, just trying to follow the rest and once I grow up I started to think by myself about what is right and what not even if I have to go against the others... I just love that arc
Mayoi Snail is S tier for me precisely because of the long Senjougahara-Araragi dialogues. Her lengthy 'negotiation' of repayment is amazing. The build up to her confession of lying in the last part is also brilliant. These two scenes stand out as perhaps my favorites in the entire show. I love rewatching them sometimes.
I know it's been a long time, but if you like complex, deep, psychological stories with (sometimes) great fights, I recommend a manga called Usogui. The thing is, you're either going to like it from the beginning, after 100-200 chapters, or not at all. But I still, after so long, think the very last arc, the STL Arc, is my favorite arc in anime and manga, but that's just me.
It might be different for me as a Japanese speaker, but the dialogue in nisemonogatari was the absolute best in the show (besides hitagi end) in my opinion. The long conversations between araragi and the snail were so well written, and in general for me the whole season felt like bakemonogatari but less cheesy(which I absolutely adore). Valid critique tho the actual plot itself was kinda forgettable.
For me, S - Sodachi Riddle, Sodachi Lost, Ougi Dark, Tsubasa Tiger; A- Hitagi Crab, Zoku Owari, Hitagi End; Nadeko Draw B- Koyomi Vamp, Shinobu Suicide, C- Shinobu Mail, Hitagi Rendezvous D- Yotsugi Doll, Ougi Formula. I forget about Suruga Monkey or Nisemono or Nadeko arcs. Need a rewatch of those to rank. I haven't watched everything yet so I'm a bit behind. But Sodachi arc is the most terrifying, heart-breaking, and emotional arc for me.
I guess the only major difference for me is that I would put Zoku way higher and Tsubasa Family way lower, they both feel like a complementary story but Zoku does way better imo.
So weird to me, how despite its influence monogatari is still such a niche series. Feels like everyone knows it but nobody has watched it lol Anyway I really feel like you're underrating nisemonogatari. The plot itself might not be too interesting, but it has many of the most meaningful character moments and extremely important themes for the entire story. And it manages to be entertaining at the same time. Imo it's with no doubt the most entertaining title in the series. The fanservice just distracts from looking at it objectively and makes people have a negative kneejerk reaction, which leads to overlooking its subtext. Also tsubasa family is an arc about araragi moreso than tsubasa.
Nisemonogatari is actually my favorite part of the first season arcs. Karen Bee establishes Kaiki and presents interesting ideas. The value of something that is fake was quite interesting. The Koyomi v Karen fight scene was also fantastic. If the fanservice in Nise is too much for people, I would think they would be more bothered by the Hachikuji shenanigans in Bakemonogatari.
HELP! I understand monogatari has a lot of literary devices: as person who doesn’t know Japanese, am I going to be missing out on a lot if I decide to watch the monogatari series? Is there a way to watch and still be able to understand some of the linguistic flare?
you'll miss out on a lot of clever wordplay and nuances, but there's still plenty to enjoy for non-japanese speakers, i'd even recommend the light novels if you want more content and context. I dont speak japanese, and it's still my favorite anime of all time
Yo Damian you ever read Zaregoto before? Think you’d love it since a lot of the points you point out for like mono in this vid are like also super prevalent within Zaregoto.
Ugh i havent watch monogatari is YEARS except kizu which i rewatch like 2 weeks ago, i miss it soo bad, i need to rewatch it but im going to be reading the books parallel to watching first maybe look at the manga bcz y not but ughhhhh its soo goodd
karen bee also deserves some shit for the BONKERS way the arc starts out, with araragi being kidnapped and then the rest of that episode being a flashback and then he gets knocked out and then we flash forwards. It has so much good shit with Senjo in it.
Yotsugi Doll in F is ridiculous too, cause like, Tsukimonogatari visuals went so incredibly hard, and that's where they set up Tadatsuru, and where Araragi's vampire powers happened and stuff, and also orange mint. Shit was A tier at worst.
People give Nadeko shit, but if we're being real, her post-Hitagi End-self (as seen in Owarimonogatari.) seems chill af. I'd love to hang out with her.
Hitagi crab may not have much substance but i feel ppl overlook its importance in helping to set the tone for what this show is about in a compact but succinct manner; mental struggles n knowing that only u have the power to get urself out of it. The message is simple but clear, short but well delivered. Senjyougahara's character is oso very iconic n the staple stable song is a certified weeb classic. Its an A in my books
The kizumonogatari movies were incredible, I watched them after Bakemonogatari. I wish I watched them first though. Bakemonogatari was a little too weird and confusing and almost boring for that reason. I was unsure if I liked the series after watching Bakemonogatari, but Kizumonogatari movies made me actually start to decide i was a fan of the series and things started making more sense.
Dang i knew ppl disliked hana but me personally i always related to it, especially with how kanbaru felt with all her up classmen friends leave her behind, its exactly what happened to me
I think the people who underrate nadeko do it purely because they watch the show for the escapism and not to actually try and listen to what the show is saying
I'm already satisifed since Tsubasa Tiger at S, dont care about what the rest of the rankings since even the weakest Monogatari Arc is still better than most arcs in other animes.
bro no way you skipped zoku owari i actually think thats the best arc of any anime i have ever watched like pure fukcing ssss tier to me idk true peak of anime industry, ive literally accidentally rewatched the first episode like 20 times just because i wanna watch first like 5 minutes but i accidentally end up watching the whole episode and im like yeah i dont have enough time to watch it fully again
Bruh over the years my hate fir nadeko has really diminished like after she promised to kill everyone the rage inside me boiled, like i irrationally hated this girl, even after she was better, i remember whenever i heard renai circulation id clench my fist aurther style, but slowly but surely i don't hate her anymore, is she my favourite? Not by a long shot but shes still pretty good
Damn this list is really accurate. Down to some of the specifics like not liking Hana- the first time I watched it I'd _probably_ bump Mayoi Jiangshi up to A, definitely Ougi Formula to A, and at least one of the Sodachis has _got_ to be S And I might be the only person on the planet that thinks so, but I thought Ougi Dark was mid as hell. C tier.
Altough nadeko snake seems very bad compared to other is probably because of the oversexualization of nadeko, but that just makes her character better in my opinion as she is a person who seeks attention from ragi all of the time
For me, Mayoi Jiangshi is S tier. The concept of butterfly effect is wild. If Hachikuji didn't get ran over by a truck 10 years ago, humanity would have met its demise. Seeing how remorseful Shinobu was for the potential actions is also profound. And of course, the final confrontation between Shinobu, Araragi and alternate Kiss Shot made me cried a river. when you put it that way Mayoi Jiangshi sounds like the star trek episode about the guardian of time
I think that both Mayou Jiangshi and Shinobu time deserves S tier
Jiangshi is B tier for me

@awmetoo4085fr it's the best arc top 2 atleast ☠️

I dont speak japanese, and it's still my favorite anime of all time
@@OKyoppa bet thank you!
u forgot koyomi reverse I think
Does the goat respond
Yeah ofc
Yo Damian you ever read Zaregoto before? Think you’d love it since a lot of the points you point out for like mono in this vid are like also super prevalent within Zaregoto.
Mayoi snail is for me also S tier. That one scared the shit out of 12 yr me
Ugh i havent watch monogatari is YEARS except kizu which i rewatch like 2 weeks ago, i miss it soo bad, i need to rewatch it but im going to be reading the books parallel to watching first maybe look at the manga bcz y not but ughhhhh its soo goodd
Wait, you haven't watched Zoku Owari Monogatari? Koyomi Reverse is the literal capstone of te series anime!
Check the post credits
mayoi maimai with the "I can't see her" made it peak fiction. Deserved at least a B, and it also had way less pedoragi stuff than later arcs.
karen bee also deserves some shit for the BONKERS way the arc starts out, with araragi being kidnapped and then the rest of that episode being a flashback and then he gets knocked out and then we flash forwards.
Mayoi Hell is S tier, too. Putting it next to Koyomi is insane
Zoku is S for me too.
People give Nadeko shit, but if we're being real, her post-Hitagi End-self (as seen in Owarimonogatari.) seems chill af. I'd love to hang out with her.
Every shinobu arc is fcking S-tier for me and the future Shinobu arcs will be absolute fire for sure!!
Bro you mistake B with S in Mayoi Jiangshi
How do I watch the show in order
bakemonogatari nisemonogatari and then kizumonogatari movies and then orderis fucked u google the semi chronological order
just google novel order
@@Deid no
@@melapundianudheep1266 ???
@@Deid acrd to novels kizumonoagatari is the first but i dint reccomend watching that first tho start with bakemonogatari
Nice
The kizumonogatari movies were incredible, I watched them after Bakemonogatari. I wish I watched them first though. Bakemonogatari was a little too weird and confusing and almost boring for that reason. I was unsure if I liked the series after watching Bakemonogatari, but Kizumonogatari movies made me actually start to decide i was a fan of the series and things started making more sense.
Dang i knew ppl disliked hana but me personally i always related to it, especially with how kanbaru felt with all her up classmen friends leave her behind, its exactly what happened to me
S T E R
Not puting sodachi in S is a crime
I think the people who underrate nadeko do it purely because they watch the show for the escapism and not to actually try and listen to what the show is saying
Mayoi mai mai is when monogatari actually starts and has more senjou than hitagi crab. A TIER.
never watched the anime but cool vid
Wait, Zoku Owarimonogatari's not there
Its after the outro
Did he not watch zoku owari? He called koyomi reverse a loght novel only arc
Kizu is the best, do not need to watch the video (of course I'll watch it)
I'm already satisifed since Tsubasa Tiger at S, dont care about what the rest of the rankings since even the weakest Monogatari Arc is still better than most arcs in other animes.
Bro you forgot Zoku Owarimonogatari movie !
its at the end after the outro
Did you include koyomi reverse in your ranking of owarimonogatari because that arc is animated alreeady?
There's a post credits scene
bro no way you skipped zoku owari i actually think thats the best arc of any anime i have ever watched like pure fukcing ssss tier to me idk true peak of anime industry, ive literally accidentally rewatched the first episode like 20 times just because i wanna watch first like 5 minutes but i accidentally end up watching the whole episode and im like yeah i dont have enough time to watch it fully again
oh you didnt skip that well uhh i still think that you didnt put enough talking into that arc 😠lol
Not by a long shot but shes still pretty good
This is my ranking after having read the novels
S-Koyomi vamp, tsubasa tiger, hitagi end, Ougi dark
A-Tsubasa cat, Sodachi lost, Suruga devil, Sodachi riddle, Shinobu mail, Mayoi maimai
B-Tsukihi phoenix, Suruga monkey, Yotsugi doll, Mayoi jiangshi, Ougi formula, Hitagi crab
C-Tsubasa family, Karen bee, Mayoi hell, Hitagi rendezvous
D-Nadeko snake
They aren't ordered in tiers
Monogatari will forever be that S tier show I never recommend or admit I watched..
Bro underrate Nisemonogatari too much imo
where is your top 10 monogatari op video???
now i really wanna read the manga...
Koyomi reverse?
He forgot to rank koyomi reverse in zoku owarimonogatari
I think that Shinobu Suicide would be in the S tier too
Damn this list is really accurate. Down to some of the specifics like not liking Hana- the first time I watched it
I'd _probably_ bump Mayoi Jiangshi up to A, definitely Ougi Formula to A, and at least one of the Sodachis has _got_ to be S
And I might be the only person on the planet that thinks so, but I thought Ougi Dark was mid as hell. C tier.
And you missed Koyomi Reverse. It was pretty good, probably B, maybe A
@@hundvd_7 He mentions Koyomi Reverse at the end, he puts it in C tier.
Dude Mayoi Jiangshi is S TIER!
The thumbnail unfortunately has me thinking ster_
yotsugi doll is C minimum just from the shinobu scene
where zoku at
Altough nadeko snake seems very bad compared to other is probably because of the oversexualization of nadeko, but that just makes her character better in my opinion as she is a person who seeks attention from ragi all of the time
why skipped zoku?
dude koyomi reverse is adapted to anime and you don't put it in a tier
Nah dude you sleepin' on nise
