The Byd tang has been in market several months. You keep saying it hasnt come to market yet. They sold almost 1000 cars allready in Norway
But with limited software for sure. Hopefully BYD makes som upgrades there. Like the charge preheat, cant understand why its not charges meanwhile its preheats. The cars regenerations its high all way down in soc.
The market manager at BYD told me that customers have not been delivered cars yet, and these cars you are referring to are pre-production demo cars that are not the final product have been given to dealers 😊

AGREED ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!! AND YES, I'M SHOUTING, JUST LIKE THE MUSIC DOES!! My first visit to Kris's channel, but I probably won't hang around long. I think this is very typical of "editing done on notebook computers." If not even "just cell phones." I watch on a desktop computer will a full-range sound system, and the loud music is UNBEARABLE. It just really shows that nobody in production -- if Kris works alone, or has folks who help him -- nobody is doing anything like "watching these videos on a television system," or a halfway decent desktop computer system. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, PLEASE TURN THE MUSIC VOLUME DOWN!! Thanks in advance.

In China, the minimum DC charger is 60kw. We scan a QR code by phone to start charging and payment. Interesting to see people charge a car differently in another country.
Minimum 60kw? That is incorrect. There are lots and lots 38KW chargers.
But also from those 60kw chargers you only get 48kw into the battery.
In Guangdong the max I have seen so fare 160kw

@linkzable how many? one or two? gac is testing a few experimental aions that achieve that kind of charging rate. you make it appear as if 480 kw is already common for gac. in reality, most gac bevs are struggling to even reach 100 kw.

Air springs on their own do not actually make a car softer. They do however make the springs adjustable. A steel spring can provide an equally supple ride (or better) but does not offer any ability to adjust the spring rate to different conditions so the manufacturer need to pick a spring rate that is a compromise between desired driving dynamics. A manufacturer can absolutely pick a soft ride with steel springs, but then it might bee too soft for some conditions, depending on intended use.
This is true in the frequency range where we are sensitive to ride and handling, but there is still ever-so-slightly of an advantage in NVH to air springs. Steel springs act like transmission lines as well as obeying Hook'es law. Just tap a spring with a wrench and tap an air spring with a wrench and have a listen to see which one rings :) Of course, in a car that is very well cushioned with bushings, rubber mounts and sound deadening, this will not make a meaningful difference, but it might in others, especially given that EV's are so quiet that tire noise (coupled to the cabin in part through the springs) is significant.

@@davekozlowski1266 I invested in BYDDF because I could get more shares for the price. BYDDDF is a sponsored ADR whereas BYDDY is unsponsored.
ADRs can be sponsored or unsponsored. A sponsored one is issued in collaboration with the foreign company, while an unsponsored ADR is established without the company's cooperation.
It takes 3-4 min to increase the voltage from 360v to 700v when you charge DC. That's why it takes some time in the beginning, not heating.. @Kris Rifa
Concerning the consumption: You should always take the amount of energy delivered by the charging station as a basis. This also includes the efficiency of the charging process and prevents false information from the display in the vehicle, which often cheats a bit (especially with Tesla). In addition, the amount of energy that the charging station delivers is also the amount that actually has to be paid.
That is false. First, you don't calculate it this way, because you have different charge losses on DC vs AC. Second, you are misinformed about the Tesla consumption display it is 100% spot on. What you are confused about is, are the clueless testers who charge 5kWh on DC with cold batteries and then report 20% charge loss, due to the battery preheat option on a Tesla. It is amazing how many people like yourself got misinformed on this. Tesla has the most accurate consumption reporting on the market, which I can confirm daily by reading the BMS directly with OBD II. It is spot on, the difference is 0.1%...
my suggestion is not to use dc/fast charging too often, don't charge the battery to 100% too often and don't let the battery run out to 0% too often

Very high quality car. Obviously very high standart.
275.5km range when you had to make an emergency charging stop with 2km left. For an 86.4kWh battery that's quite disappointing. That's around the 31kWh/100km consumption which is pretty poor. I suppose it is a large and heavy car so won't be fair to compare it to smaller more efficient vehicles. So others in its class are - Model X (24kWh/100km) and Audi E-Tron. The Model X is not even on the part of the chart you showed so I'm presuming it's way more efficient. So that leaves the E-Tron, which on your chart does have similar consumption figures.
I suppose the problem is that the LFPs don't like cold weather, so that probably impacts the range figures a lot. Hopefully when BYD brings its vehicles to Australia that they will like the warmer conditions here and be able to get much more range, as 275.5km range is barely better than a 40kWh Nissan LEAF.
LFP is the problem, yes you are right. I mean even in China LFP BYDs doesn't sell very well in the north. BYD really has too bringing in more Tri-ions, even from CATL, its largest battery competitor in China.
Hi. Good review. Any reason why you were driving on the motorway with Sport mode and the larger regeneration mode, in my experience they will both reduce the range.
Slow start and gradual increase in charging from empty is deliberate, to protect the battery.
The BYD Tang is so amazing & underrated

You can use any navigation app & updated regularly
Plus no extra cost for adding a costumized infotainment system. & that needs to be updated through the service centers! Not to mention can't use the personal favorite apps! The only thing I hate about the screen is the rotation feature. Being vertical is useless plus moving screen means it may break & more cost
& yes, this is a proper SUV. I loved the cargo space & the ground clearance & the 7 seats!
I'd be helpful, if you'd document some of the more essential results in the descriptions, in case viewers missed something or to aid in focusing in on your review narrative. Also, the types of motors & tires used & their effects on noise & efficiencies. Battery types & chemistries could also help with the decision making process. Thx
P.S. The music to voice ratio is way too high.
The reason why it's slow to start charging is because the battery is low and because its cold it needs to get the whole pack to the right temperature.

Why are there charging stations, like fossle fuel stations, surly it would be more cost effective to have national grids supplying the recharge facilities when on the road/ motorways with the standard rate being charged and going back into the national power suppliers. removing the profiteers.

I think that some manufacturers will disagree with you about it being OK to go to very near zero on the battery! In an emergency ok, but on a regular basis it will cause degradation to many currently types of batteries.
Could you range test the xc40 with the new Range Optimizer when it is available for the car?

I don't get it why people in a cold country like Norway prefer pure EV. Isn't PHEV a good choice? In China BYD's PHEV sells like crazy. Daily commuting on battery only, and no worry about 5% of battery on long distance journey. The BYD Tang new PHEV edition can go to 6L/100Km even when the pre-charged battery is depleted.
No, BEV is better. What so you need PHEV only if you can have full BEV without annoying oil service and double problems with 2 systems. In Norway most BEVs can do 500-600km due to slow speeds so it is better with BEV

PHEV oil changes aren't as bad as conventional ones since they only run on a pre-set and sometimes minimum RPM just to make a charge and don't need that much fuel to run which mean oil changes are longer simply because less fuel is going to get mixed in the oil (which is why engine oil turns dark) and overall the "engine" gets less stress than a regular car engine.
The engine in a PHEV just makes charging and range as much of an issue than pure EVs.

Byd taxi drivers are using very old battery tech they are not using the current blade battery.
As we have laws in Europe that set a maximum of 8% power loss at which point the battery has to be renewed cannot see bad replacing its batteries on every car. Sorry your talking bar room shit. Get your facts straight first.

You should choose sport mode in the steering setings. Its very light on the steering in comfort mode.

In the real -25ºC world this car would need more 25kwh of increased battery capacity to cope with a more active battery warming and the added weight for an acceptable range.

Kris, the charging doesn't seem that great when compared to other cars. Does BYD plan on updates to increase this, or is this a limitation because of the battery chemistry?
That’s becuase in china,most of charging station are 90 or 120kw.This car is design for that.
When Tang and model3 both plugged to China national grid chargers, Tang can reach 1-85% five minutes faster than model3.

How often do you need to replace a battery ? You charge the battery. The battery packs are currently out lasting ownership.
These batteries can be replaced serviced and have cells removed if hey fail.
So your saying your not prepared to charge your car. That's like say I do not put fuel in my car when it runs out.

What's a start up battery
Most ev are running on the same battery packs , there's a limited number of battery manufavtures. It's only the packaging that's different. What is a startup battery?
@@keithnewton8981 These replaceable would be tested and certified for certain range/wattage - would park in designated bay at the service station and automated machine would remove the battery from underneath the car and replace it with fully charged one. All that within 3 mins. You wouldn't own the battery- the government would, and you would be paying a small lease fee for it say $100 per year - that would make electric cars much more affordable to the masses.
Current model is unsustainable - if everyone of us wanted to charge the car everyday somewhere there wouldn't be enough chargers and energy. Imagine everyone puts 5 kettles on at 5pm and leaves them on overnight - the national grid would melt and power stations for fail to deliver enough power. Replaceable battery is the only way. eg: imagine you wanted to use a cordless drill but you would need to wait for the battery to charge every time - instead you grab a spare battery and use it straight away - and that's the model I see is the only way forward for electric cars.

it depends how is your driving habit, some people find their range 100 km less compare to nedc, but a smaller group of people can go beyond the nedc range.
