BYD could have waited for another year and made their norwegian debut model the facelifted tang with newer batteries and better drive, or the atto 2/3 with their new ev platform. Overall I think this old tang is okay for the price but its clearly outdated and the new offerings are a big step-up from it. This just feels like they were rushing to put something on the market.
If they price it right like a lot of Chinese goods, and considering most folks don't keep their vehicles past the warranty period before trading them in, Chinese BEVs will sell like hotcakes all over the globe! Sad to say since I drive a Japanese ICE on track days and a USA PHEV for my daily commuting appliance.
Clearly outdated how? I think your opinion would change very quickly if you ever owned one. Obviously people don't understand which audience this car is targeted for when they suggest trying a BYD Han or Seal instead 😂
Thanks for this. BYD is doing an official announcement for its Thailand debut tomorrow, Aug 8. I’m really interested in how dealer will set retail price. EV is really booming here.
If BYD Thai brings the Tang model to Thailand, I think Thailand's Tang (2023 or 2024 model) will be the minorchanged and updated version. May be better than this Tang.
The Tang is old news now. It was BYD's first statement that it was an up-and-coming automaker, but as you noted it has a lot of limitations. Aside from the poorly optimized drivetrain and slow charging, that steering wheel is an affront; seriously, the old BYD logo looks like it belongs in a taxi, not a luxury car. Let's remember that BYD is a battery maker with an auto division and it shows, the battery is excellent but everything else doesn't live up to that standard. BYD is also obsessed with vertical integration and controlling their entire supply chain; they refuse to go to outside companies like Huawei to do their intelligent driving systems and they suffer for it. Thankfully, everything has been much improved in the new Ocean series. I'm really excited to see how the Seal and Sea Lion perform, I think those will be really superb, first rate EVs.
Poorly optimized drivetrain? I wouldn't say that at all. Look at the aerodynamics and weight of this car, running on 22" wheels, of course it will have a high consumption at highway speeds. But I think it has nice consumption at lower speeds. I did a lot of traveling at lots of incline with this car at lower speeds up to 70km/h, and the range is impressing, a over 400km. Lower speeds on flat road maybe 450-460km on a good day. On the contrary I think it has a quite efficient drivetrain all things considered.
The car has autosteer, but it is deactivated and hidden in the Norwegian models. BYD are working on a tuned version of the autosteer for the Norwegian market. However. If you're a clever fiddler, you'll figure out how to get the autosteer activated. 😉
.. thank goodness for your comment... So I guess they will bring it soon with an over-the-air update? ...a car without auto steer and lane keep assist will not sell these days.
You can only save seat setting when the car is fully stopped. You can change the cruising speed by the little paddle next to the cruise control button.
The problem with the comparison is that, to be fair, similar cars must be taken into account: 7-passenger cars with similar size and engine performance and that have AWD. That would be like pretending that a gasoline Yaris consumes the same as a Rav 4.
I feel I should comment on this video, as an owner of this car for almost a year :) There are some things I agree with, and some I disagree with. First and foremost, for the price you pay, I think this is a really awesome car. Yes the stereo is just average sounding, and there are annoying software glitches which hopefully will be fixed later. The roadnoise in high speed is a little excessive (I soundproofed mine quite easily as the sound treatment is basically non-existing). The range/consumption is nothing to complain about when you look at the aerodynamics of the car. The car actually delivers exceptionally well in winter conditions despite not having a slow heatpump that takes long to heat up the cabin. It actually has self steering, and there is a way to turn it on although it is not legally approved in Norway quite yet. The infotainment allows (not officially) installation of 3rd party android apps which is an awesome feature, and in that regard the landscape/portrait mode makes alot of sense when you have used it for a while. The material quality in the interior is very nice and definitely better than for example Hongqi E-HS9 that uses cheap plastics, although not as good as german premium cars. Personally I think the driving comfort is excellent. Great seats and a perfectly balanced suspension. From what I see in the official facebook groups, there are very few problems, and almost all the owners really love their car and would purchase it again without hesitation. This is the only car I've owned which I'm not getting tired of. Always a pleasure to drive it :)
Thank you for the information! Did you happen to see the headlight video Bjorn did? Is it really that bad? I wrote to byd to ask them as I'm. looking to get a BYD here in Sweden maybe next year unless USA starts WW3

Fun fact. Actually it earned the name公路坦克 in China because Tangs performed so so well in collisions that it protects the passengers very well and the opponent vehicles got smashed and totaled most of the time. Also a lot of Tang owners take their Tangs to hardcore off road for fun.
you didnt compare with Nio ES8
What is there to compare I would ask myself, ES8 is like 2 times more expensive
nio es8 with 100 kwt battery , winter tyres comes at 825000 nok ( i own) .. because he compare this with much expensive audi etc
Die Navigation ist kaputt 😅
Only fans... you are so funny 🤣
EVs are easy. Everybody can make a good EV... NOT.
Tesla = King of the Hill🥇 😃👍
@@mikafiltenborg2291 ??🤣🤣

Only fans mode 😂
Will Björn test the new Tesla Model S and X? Hug from Portugal
Yes
I bet MarcusBil has multiple on order... He will lend it to Björn as always! It depends on Tesla when they’ll ship them to europe
Actually not.
@@bjornnyland Damn, I lost my bet 🥲
So funny that it’s available in every EU country except UK😂
Finally ❤️
Time to update kid's pic
Interior seems super cheap...
How disappointing Bjorn but I guess its a cheap 200 mile entry-level EV
Ever wonder if safety features come with it? 🤣
For price of an ID5 it can’t be entry level and also its build in China so I thought that it needs to be cheap
Your wrong, it's a great car
@@discoking7188 its a great car if its at the right price
@@stevenbarrett7648 Well I've owned it for almost a year. It's most definitely not an entry level EV. It is a quite luxurious vehicle with a great price when you compare it to the competition.
With the BYD you have to ABC
Always Buy Chinese
@@bjornnyland other car manufactures should always beat the chines too! should be easy if the chinese produce such Sondermüll and call it a car
These chinese cars are as we say in Norwegian "MEGET HARRY!" Anyway, build your dreams i guess.
Hongqi e-hs9 is the really harry one...
Interesting how the car with the smallest battery has the longest range...
is kinda fishy to not give you a test car just because they think their software is not good enough.
"Do you like dis shit?"
Its kaputt at min 21😂

Does BYD still sell a factory Lexus logo replacement kit for their cars, to make them look like Lexus?
Those days are long gone with a backlog of 700,000+ orders in China.
I had to use a taxi in Singapore every day for about an hour every day for one month, i was going nuts with the constant braking and acceleration. :D
Breaking or braking?
@@bjornnyland Braking 🤭
fbs
Looks kinda nice if cheap enough. Tesla of course has zero to worry about, not so sure about legacy OEM's.
Agree. Tesla does not put brakes on their cars sometimes. Shows the care for the environment.
Man i like this shit looks good a fat BYD cool but navigation is kaput damn Son shiiiiet wowww this thing is heavy as a wale 🐳🐋 okay now i see why its a fat BYD 😁🤪
I wouldn’t call BYD luxury. I think they are mid tier
even the vw id3 looks less cheap tho
Chinese infotainment FTW! 😂😂😂
I thought it would be better than this, disappointed
Only Fans Mode - LOL
Making legacy look decent 😂 Sandy Monro did say Chinese drive trains were at least 5 years behind
Not true. BYD is destroying Tesla in China. 🤣
