    I find these houses so sad! It’s like someone’s whole life forgotten.. good thing you are filming it and sharing a bit of who that person was! Do you take something with you when you go to those places?

  • @uponamidnightdreary
    @uponamidnightdreary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    I know it’s not what Josh is there to do but I really wonder how many treasures he’s walked past in all these places… money taped to the underside of furniture, a first edition book or an original painting, etc.
    I know he’s found a piano and a cool car before.
    It’s interesting to me and I suppose, in a way, most anything in there is a treasure because it was once important to those that lived there.

    Everything is ‘old’ in the kitchen as it was properly made in those days. These days products only have a short life so you buy new constantly. That IS a toaster by the way. I think it’s disgusting that the family can not get their arses on a plane and fly to Grannies/Mums house to retrieve sentimental items and make sure her home is secure. That’s a poor excuse in today’s era, it’s not like we have a cart and horse to travel in!! This family obviously didn’t care or love her that much. So sad 😭 Amazing time capsule, so much lovely stuff to see. Let’s hope it doesn’t get stolen or vandalised. Thanks Josh ❤️

    It amazes me how the family doesn't empty these homes, all those memories just sitting there waiting to decompose, oh and I've just been given my late Nana's game of Chinese Checkers that I use to play with her as a child in the 1970s ❤️

    • @ExploringWithBigD
      @ExploringWithBigD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two brothers that own the house are in there 80s. The reason it’s not emptied out is because they are in disagreement on what to do with the property one wants to sell one does not.

      @@ExploringWithBigD that's a shame, my brother has told me when my elderly uncle time comes we have to sell his home and split the money which I don't want to as it's the last family home we have and luckily my uncle has sorted it and is leaving it to me and my son, my brother doesn't bother with him I'm the one out of all the family that does and today I'm going to visit as it's his 75th birthday 🙂🥳

    My grandparents died a few years ago now and their house was pretty old, if you'd walked through it you'd have gotten the same 50-90s vibe!
    It was a council house so we had to empty it for the next people, 60 years of memories just trashed and it was heart breaking!

    This pad is just full of priceless gems from years gone by. Being 66, I literally cracked up when Josh said "Dude, no way, I think that is an old juke box in the back?" Ass he approaches the "juke box" "Look, no way I have never seen one of these, like this!" As he's turning the radio dial. Some of the things that pop out of Josh's and Steve Ronin's mouths crack me up as they explorer. Often, wondering what specific vintage or not items are? They are so young in so many ways. Which is a fun thing. I remember those erector building kits. It's nice to view the same homes filmed by different explorers . Each show things others have missed or neglected to offer in their videos. Great explorer Josh!!! Keep these types a- coming.

    So often, explorers see books as objects. The type of books you read can say a lot about how you are as a person. A bookshelf can reflect someone's interests. It can give explorers a better sense of the person they're exploring.

      I'm an absolute bibliophile and completely agree! What makes me so sad is that the up and coming generations dont/won't feel the same. I have books that I've loved and reread since high school (I'm 51) ! Sadly, my own daughter(24) who really enjoys reading, has maybe 10 books all together, because now she reads on line books! I just can't do that! Lol🤓👍

    This is what's sad about these abandoned old places where families don't want to take the time to go through and salvage their loved ones memorabilia. There's a lot of antiques that are still in great condition, other antiques like the toaster. Some of the decorative china in that one cabinet are so precious. Those afghans are some beautiful family heirlooms that probably nobody alive remembers.

    Yes that is a 1950s electric one-sided toaster. Here's some information about it from object lessons
    This electric toaster is manually operated. It is metal so would have been hot to touch after use.
    The toaster is basically a rectangular box with two side flaps that can be pulled down by moving a lever on the shorter side of the box. The side flaps are made out of thin metal rods so that the bread inside the toaster can be seen. Inside the box is an element that would be heated by electricity. The heating elements comprise a thin metal wire that became red hot, and so toasted the bread. The bread was sandwiched inside the flaps, with a second interior set of rods preventing it from falling against the heater.
    As bread toasts it gets dry, and tiny crumbs drop off. These can create a mess if not collected, so underneath the toaster is a small metal crumb tray. Crumbs can be shaken out when the toaster is cool enough to hold.
    The toaster stands on four small metal legs that would prevent the heat transferring from the hot toaster to the kitchen worktop.

    My great grandma had a toaster like that. Those radios predate TV. In the days a radio like that would have been the focal point of the living room. That red lamp was an old camping lamp. It was really cool to see all those old toys. That pinball game was really something. And the old erector sets. But crayons haven't changed much in the last 60 years. Nice explore, Josh!

    Groovy.Honestly, most things in that house are in mine as well. But Ive always filled my house with vintage and antiques. Really love that fact it is hidden within the woods and secluded. That has always beenmy dream home far away from the city life. I believe what you thought to be a napkin holder was actually a Hotdog Warmer. Bills were kept in Cigar Boxes. My Moms Grandparents from Germany did the same routine. At dawn they would sit around an old RCA Victrola tube radio to hear the Farm Report and Weather I spent so much of my childhood learning from them and how to survive. Our family, Im the only one left now that knows their past and shares all the past memories. Appreciate and Respect my friend.

    I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it but the “beads” hanging off the metal headboard are just empty spools of thread that were strung up together and hung over the corner of the headboard. I love old homes with all their treasures inside. Thank-you for the video. 🇨🇦🤗❤️🙏🏻

    Cigar boxes brings back memories from my gtandma! She kept all her paper bills and photos in them they stacked very nicely in the closet! I laughed when Josh said I wonder if theres any cigars left in them. Nope they used them for storage!!

    ***JOSH PLEASE READ***
    Hey Josh, I noticed something that I didn't see in the comments. Grandpa was a fireman! I saw the "Firemen" magazines and if you look at the pic at the 26:45 mark, that's not an old car, that's a fire truck from the '20's. Look at the driver, he's wearing a fire helmet! And if you look at the details, you can see the fire bell, light, fire hose (behind the driver and in front of the guy hanging off the back) and by the guy in back you can see the fire pipes. I totally glossed over it the first time I saw the vid, then it occurred to me. I just thought that was interesting.
    Ok, stay safe and be wise. 😇

    Hello Josh, great video, great find 😊 that was a drop leaf toaster from the 60's/70's maybe earlier, I forget, my Gramma had one, she loved her burnt black toast, it worked throughout the 90's, yes she got a updated toaster for me, I never liked burnt toast, awesome to see one though ❤️ Irene from Hamilton Ontario Canada

    I think that first thing you asked about was a recipe holder. Also, potassium chloride is a supplement some people have to take if their electrolytes tend to be low, so that's probably why it was there- some older people have to take it. Great video!

    I love that floor model tv!! For its age it’s in nice condition and it has the swivel on it to. There’s a lot of memories from my childhood in there I’m 42… I love this house!! You did a really good job on this house!! I however never seen a toaster like that so it’s much older than I am.. ❤️❤️❤️

    The "chemicals in the window are old model paint jars, the device is and old toaster.
    Loved seeing all those old toys, hopefully the family can or allow someone to get the toys and put them on display somewhere.

    The item at 2:39 is a bread toaster, like the ones that pop up. But just an old one. This house is amazing!!
