I love this cocoa. I have made it 3 times but with plain almond milk. It is so good!! Today I doubled the recipe and added 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract and 1 tsp of vanilla. I cant thank you enough for this recipe!
Last night I went to bed fed up with myself, after yet again stuffing my face all evening with sweets. So fell asleep determined to have a day without added sugar, I have to start one day at a time. Then I wake up and here's Jessica with a hot chocolate! Needless to say, I get to soak dates, stop video, find dates in the kitchen and get them soaking while I get up! I can do this!! I've got oat milk and hooray! I bought the one without sugar. Today will be a reading ingredients and giving away sweets kind of day! 😘Let the adventure begin!
I commented a request, you responded, I just made it and am sipping on its deliciousness! Thank you for “yeah, making it!” 👍🏼😋 I added vanilla and cinnamon.
If you like chocolate you might want to try the vegan chocolate pudding I make quite often: you need 60 g flaxseed, 12 dates, 3 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder and 300 ml water. On day 1 you blend the flaxseed, then add the other ingredients and blend it until there are no visible pieces left. Then let it rest in the fridge overnight - the flaxseed will soak up all the water and give you just the right texture. Of course you could also use any kind of nut milk instead of water or vary the amount of dates according to your taste - whatever. Some people like to use chia seeds instead of flaxseed - but as the nutritional information for chia seeds is almost the same and they are much more expensive I don't use them that much.
AND FOR DELICIOUS MEXICAN CHOCOLATE YOU ADD CINNAMON, CAYENNE PEPPER & VANILLA, AND FOR CARIBBEAN FLAVOR USE HOME MADE COCONUT MILK, INSTEAD OF ALMOND. AT OTHER TIMES YOU CAN USE HOME MADE CASHEW MILK. IT'S GOOD TO VARY AND THEY'RE ALL SUPER DELICIOUS! BLESSINGS✌💚
Look, I don’t want to be completely frivolous, but y’all are looking great. Brian, the short hair is really spruce! A couple tips if you’re willing to add more than three ingredients: Try a pinch of salt if you’re good with salt. Try a little splash of vanilla. Try a pinch of instant espresso powder - like Medaglia D’Oro; it won’t make the cocoa taste like coffee, but will intensify the chocolate flavor.
I have 2 and a half dates left, unsweet almond milk, unsweet cocoa powder and a vitamix. Looking forward to trying this recipe. Thank you very much! Have a great week!
That five minutes that the dates have to soak, the Universe built that in there so you can go get in your jammies. And T-Joe’s Sipping Cocoa-also really good!
I bought date syrup from Date Lady. I use it for salad dressings, "Asian" sauces, and steel cut oats. I never measure the amount. My only rule for using date syrup is to add it a little at a time and actually taste it before I add more. Thank you so much for your channel. You are both kind and smart and creative.

I like you two a lot and have been watching your videos for the last six months. Thanks for your information and entertainment!
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I'm lactose intolerant and use Coconut Dream milk substitute for cereal, and I have a feeling it will taste great with cocoa. Just stumbled across this channel, and I have to say that it gives me a nice relaxed vibe when watching your vids. I used to be keto but now am vegan. Dr Eric Berg is a good one to follow for keto because he emphasizes vegetables as a major part of the diet. A lot of keto people just mainly eat a high animal protein diet with few veggies. Watch the movie Forks Over Knives for a good perspective on the Whole Foods Plant Based lifestyle.
I have been meaning to tell you how much I love your hot chocolate recipe....I use it to make my husband and I yummy smoothies...I use three dates instead of two and 8 ice cubes...so good. Big Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving🦃
Made this basic recipe like 2 years ago when I first changed my diet and did not like it...... maybe I'll give it a go now that my taste buds are changed ❤
I've made a similar hot chocolate. Unsweetened dark chocolate almond milk, splash vanilla, tiny pinch pink Himalayan salt, 2-3 dates soaked then a combination of unsweetened cocoa powder and cacao powder. So delicious
LOL it's like Peef answered her on the blender. And I have put unpitted dates in my blender. I kept wondering why it was making such a loud noise like it wasn't mixing and then at occurred to me thank goodness it didn't break.
I have all the ingredients and was thinking last night, "The Krocks haven't shared their hot chocolate recipe, I'm going to need to experiment..." and here you are, you've come to the rescue! Didn't know I could freeze my dates, always learning so much from you... Thanks for another great recipe :)
Cocoapowder rice syrup and rice-hazelnutmilk. Mix powder with rice syrup. Coffeespoon each. And a few drops of the milk. When smooth add the rest of the milk. Heat in pot on stove. Low-tech deliciousness. (Heat in microwave 40 secs, stir, heat another 30 secs) I drink this twice a day 4 seasons 365 days per year. Optional: a drop of vanilla essence.
I started making my own almond milk over 30 years ago (yes, I'm that old!), and as a chocolate lover I made a very similar drink back then. What I'm thinking might be a delicious add that I plan to try soon is to add some frozen sweet black cherries (and vanilla -- but your unsweetened almond milk already had vanilla in it). I make my own vanilla too, so that's kind of fun. In case you are ever open to making your own almond milk, I have developed a less processed and more economical way of making almond milk: To make a little over a quart of great almond milk, soak 1/4 cup raw almonds for about 12 hours in pure or filtered water. The main reason I do this is so that I can just "pop off" the skins without any trouble. Once all the skins are popped off and thrown out, add the almonds to the blender with 2 or more cups of good water. (I add more water later but have it more dense with the belief -- mistaken or not -- that the blender will do a better job of pulverizing the almonds with a little less water in the container.) I also do not freeze or even refrigerate my dates, but after taking the pits out I make a lightly sweetened almond milk by adding about 8 dates to the mixture as well as a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a teeny pinch of salt (which adds to the sweetness). In my Blendtec high-speed blender I whir it on the highest speed for two cycles (a total of 1 1/2 minutes). When I used to make almond milk in my $40 blender I just blended a lot longer at the highest speed -- closer to 5 minutes. Once it is well-blended I do NOT strain out the fiber, and rarely does my tongue detect the fiber. Then I add the rest of the water (and I go for a total of 4-6 cups, depending on how rich I want the almond milk to be). Using 6 cups will still, I believe, have more almond content than commercial almond milks. I don't use Hershey's although I have loved their chocolate for a lifetime. It's just that they are NOT careful to make sure there are no child slaves on the plantations from which they buy their chocolate. I watched some documentaries on this and it was so heartbreaking, not only the slavery but the terrible conditions in which those children live (who never get to even taste chocolate, by the way). I use raw organic cacao/cocoa powder and am VERY pleased with it!) Anytime you buy organic cocoa or cacao, you KNOW there are no slaves involved, by the way.
I love this recipe I'm going to have to try it out. I've been vegan for over three years now and this past year I have been trying to cut out salt, sugar, and oil and this looks to be a great way to have something nice and sweet without just adding in sugar.
I walk the dogs a lot. Brian doesn't really, but definitely will start to incorporate exercise. We haven't done anything about loose skin... we do have some, but nothing crazy at this point. I get self conscious about my arms, but I am still way better off now!
Oh my gosh!!!! I HAVE to try this! The one thing I haven't been able to find since going plant based is a really good hot chocolate recipe. I can't wait for this!
I love hot chocolate! Pretty much drink it all year long. I found some chocolate extract at Marshall’s. I bet that it would be a great addition! Jessica can you tell me where you got your headphones? I need to drown out the noise of my vitamix also! Thank you! Love your channel!!!😊❤️🌻
I will definitely be hitting the blog up for the full recipe. Thanks for sharing this. I’m excited to let my kids try it. It’s been so cold already and I think it’s safe to say we are in for a cold winter. Okay so I will do more research, but are you guys the first to inform me that the blender has an actual heat setting, like a warming setting? I had no idea. I use my little baby bullet for everything!! Haha
That changes everything. I’ve been holding out bc I like to conserve money, but now I’m imagining Mufasa say to Simba, “It is time!” The only other question is about the dates. Would you say that’s about 3 dates? I’m bad with grams.
Great basic recipe. I will probably use shelled hemp seeds (hemp hearts) for some healthy omega 3's. You guys are looking so healthy it warms my heart. Thank you.
This was hilarious - loved the editorial comments! (I actually appreciated the tips and warnings 😉) Using dates as the sweetener sounds like a great idea, and I plan to try it soon. Thanks, Jessica!
I didn’t have to soak the dates when using the power of the almighty Vitamix! Awesome recipe, thanks! Impressed by the sweetness of the dates. I add cinnamon and nutmeg, too.
Tonight was a perfect night for Hot Cocoa. Rainy and cold here in Mo. I just used Cashew Milk it's so creamy, Dark cocoa, truvia. Cinnamon would be good in it. And so yummy. 😊Your's sound good. That's the chocolate I used. But from Walmsrt. lol. 😊 And regular marshmallow. So not all plant based. ☺️
Hello from the UK! I was wondering if you had considered using cacao powder rather than cocoa powder? I've found it's even more chocolatey and apparently has more health benefits
Monk fruit is my sweetener of choice. No nasty bitter aftertaste like with Stevia. No calories. Thank you for this recipe, and I will try the dates, too.
Thanks for the reminder to like the video. I get all excited and forget to hit like. I love your channel. I find myself laughing often. Look forward to your videos!!
This is awesome!!! My 3yr old was JUST asking for hot chocolate and I was planning to get around to creating one, and now i don't have to! Plus, who doesn't love hot chocolate!?!?!
Thank you for the delicious hot chocolate recipe. I made a double batch because I love frozen hot chocolate ..just add a few ice cubes & blend til smooth . I am enjoying that tonight & very early in the morning I will enjoy a cup of steaming hot chocolate. BTW... the frozen hot chocolate is awesome too😋
Fun video, thank. Also worth considering is cacao, even cacao nibs in place of cocco. Also in place of milk use water and oats / oatmeal or your favorite milk base, ie almonds or cashews. The vitamix can make them into milk as it makes the hot chocolate. I'd rather carry home the dry base for non-dairy milks and make them as I need them than by them premade and carry all that water etc. Enjoy.
I know the Holidays are almost over but would you have any thoughts on the Diamond Breeze Almond Non-Dairy milk Nog that I saw at Walmart compared to other brands? The Aldi's version was Good too. They both tasted very close to the previous Dairy Egg Nog and were also thicker than the milk alone. Thank you.

Haha
Yes the Vitamix I have (A2500 Ascent Series) even has a "hot soup" setting that runs for about 5 minutes so you can make hot soup directly in there!
That changes everything. I’ve been holding out bc I like to conserve money, but now I’m imagining Mufasa say to Simba, “It is time!”
The only other question is about the dates. Would you say that’s about 3 dates? I’m bad with grams.
Great basic recipe. I will probably use shelled hemp seeds (hemp hearts) for some healthy omega 3's. You guys are looking so healthy it warms my heart. Thank you.
Good idea! Thanks for watching :)
I think the caffeine at night would bother me but great for a chilly morning😁
SAME HERE, BUT SOME PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THAT BEC. IT'S HOT IT DOESN'T AFFECT THEM, BUT IF THEY DRINK IT COLD IT DOES... GO FIGURE. ✌💚
@@LAKSHMIANGELES oh wow that's interesting!
You kids are looking better every day. Love all do you do!
That’s looks delicious! I appreciate all the tips cause I wonder about all the things! You make it easy for us.
Thanks Joni!
I made this today and it was glorious. Thank you for the recipe and for all of your videos!
THE ABSOLUTE BEST cocoa powder is from Pensey's. You will never ever go back to Nestles.
Ooooooohhhhhh.... yes!
Never heard of Pensey’s.
I love the special dark cocoa powder as well :) I also use mine when I make my brownie batter hummus. It just tastes better :)
Brownie Batter Hummus??? Yes please :D
Change out Almond Milk for ripe bananas and the water for icecubes :D = nice cold, sweet chocolate "milkshake"
Thanks for this recipe Jessica. I’ve made this several times since I viewed your video 5 days ago. It’s delish. I make with soy milk
For a vitamix comparable, look at the ninja chef 1500 it’s like $150 and works just as well. I’m gonna try this recipe.
This looks sooooo delicious!! I can't wait until my blender, that I ordered the other day, arrives, so I can try this out! Thanks for the recipe!
This looks amazing. Definitely going to try! Thx for the recipe!
Thank you so much. I love your details to the work of are. This will be great for the holidays
This was hilarious - loved the editorial comments! (I actually appreciated the tips and warnings 😉) Using dates as the sweetener sounds like a great idea, and I plan to try it soon. Thanks, Jessica!
Who else appreciates Jessica’s way of thinking?
Great job, really learning lots from you three, about WFPB my boyfriend and I are make changes too and have fun doing it too
I didn’t have to soak the dates when using the power of the almighty Vitamix!
I just tried this and guys it's great. Seriously. Thank you, Jessica!!
So good, we add a dash of vanilla too 😊
I also use a banana or half a sweet potato and sometimes also ground flax seeds and cinnamon.
Love the guitar during the pouring of the hot chocolate
Have you tried ghirardelli brand? It is a smoother taste
Never thought to add dates 👍🏼
I make hot chocolate lots!! So easy, so great!! Love watching you guys!!
Thanks for the reminder to like the video. I get all excited and forget to hit like. I love your channel. I find myself laughing often. Look forward to your videos!!
Thank you James!
Yum!! I am so making this!!
Great looking hot chocolate. With the romantic guitar music I was almost expecting sprigs of mint in both fancy glasses! ;-)
😂😂
LOL! Dang it! We had fresh mint on hand too!
Hi you might have listed it somewhere but what Vitamix model do you utilize? I don't have one and am researching, thanks so much :)
BoulderDam Cottage, Open up the recipe link and the products they use are listed which includes their blender. Have a nice day. 😊
@@monaleggett7066 Thanks Mona!
We use the Vitamix A2500 Ascent Series. You can find a link to it on our blog post: bit.ly/KrockHotChocolate
This is awesome!!! My 3yr old was JUST asking for hot chocolate and I was planning to get around to creating one, and now i don't have to! Plus, who doesn't love hot chocolate!?!?!
Awww hope you enjoy! ❤️
Getting cooler here in Texas, and this sounds yummy. Can't wait to try your recipe! Thank you!
Thank you for the delicious hot chocolate recipe. I made a double batch because I love frozen hot chocolate ..just add a few ice cubes & blend til smooth . I am enjoying that tonight & very early in the morning I will enjoy a cup of steaming hot chocolate. BTW... the frozen hot chocolate is awesome too😋
OOH frozen hot chocolate... yes!
Your guys' videos make my day AND are so informational. I love how Peef is right there ready for action 😂
Thank you Ruby ❤️
Great stuff. Can’t wait to try this!
Question: Does Peef hibernate? He seems a little listless lately, so if you could get him to hibernate, it might be a good idea.
LOL hmm not sure
Hi thanks for sharing I was looking for a simple one for my children
Darn! Now I want hot chocolate made with dates but we finished ours today.
Enjoy.
Great tips!! Thanks!
Thank you.
I have hot chocolate every morning instead of coffee. I use the same chocolate and almond milk and I add a sprinkle of cinnamon.
