"We took their top five to seven plays that showed up in every game last year: a reverse, crossing routes, tailback screens- and I'll be danged if in the first four or five plays those things showed up," -Lance Guidry, UM Defensive Coordinator

I like the 5 wide plays but why doesn't Napier actually use 5 WRs. He never even puts 4 WRs in the game at once. His version of 5 wides involves a back and a tight end. This makes it easier for the defenders. You want to create mismatches. You want a safety or nickel having to cover a fast WR, not some slow TE. Even the back doesn't have the route running skills or hands of a WR.

It would have taken him past the guy in the flat and also giving himself a two way go on the guy who made the tackle. Even if he still makes the tackle he would have been 15 yards down the field instead of 11.

@@thomasjohnson7802 Ya, it seemed pretty clear that the drop off in the rushing game from 2022 to 2023 was in large part due to the loss of Anthony Richardson as a run threat. He opened up so many hole for the RBs by pulling defenders. Thats why I’m not writing Napier off yet. He’s handicapped with Mertz back there. If he can hit 4 wins, with one of them being UCF, I want to see what he does in 2025 with Lagway. I’d like to see Lagway now, but I understand that it’s a lot to ask of a true freshman to carry a team through this schedule.

It's the Lagway era PLAY LAGWAY!! for any chance in other games. This offense needs a mobile QB. Mertz should coach up DJ from the sideline. On defense searcy, collins, pyburn, LJ, and gumbs jr should be on the edge more on rush plays. The D-line has to step up seems like they don't prepare for the opposing QB. When you're constintly waiting until there is only 10 seconds on the play clock to put a man in motion to see what the coverage is, you leave no time to call an audible, and you're relying on the play you called to work. A play that the defense knows you're going to run, because you run the same plays every time. Also, he clearly doesn't trust the O-line, which is why on pass plays he does 2 fakes to throw off the defense and only sends one man down field. How about instead of sending one man down field actually use your wideouts and tightend and send all 4 down field and make the DB's cover the whole field, instead of one player. OR, how about you start recuiting O-lineman instead of getting 6 great wideouts and never being able use them because your O-line sucks.

    1) It seems that when they are in man, and we have 3 WR on one side and 1 on the other, the ball should be going to the side of the lone receiver. A D1 receiver should be able to beat a defender 1 on 1.
    2) You blamed Mertz for throwing the post to far inside, and I agree, but isn't it on both the receiver and QB? The ball and the receiver needs to be at a common spot, like the opposite goal post.

The qb's job is to throw the ball to the right space. If Mertz had done that, and the wr takes too steep of angle so that he can't get there, it's on the wr. There is no world where given the circumstances of that play that the ball should have been thrown where it was.

He has a one track mind and one play sheet. It changes for NO ONE! No matter the week, month or year! It's just like his personality, BASIC AND BORING

By far Mertz worst game as a gator! I like him but I still think if Lagway has the game we’re all expecting him to have against Samford then he should get the start against A&M to prove if he just has that generational type of talent and can be a great QB as a true freshman

Fans hardly showed up sold out the stadium to shut up after one touch down. That's equally bad to the teams performance

It was mostly Canes fans about mid 3rd quarter. The fans quit like the team did

Thanks. It must be painful to watch this garbage. Why wouldn't you play 8 in the box vs Billy? You'd be stupid not to do it vs Simple Bill.
Only one man in a route? You can't run a double play action fake if your receivers are running routes.
