I ran in to a Turkish gentleman recently who was almost the spitting image of Brad. I like to think somewhere on the internet he's reviewing all the films Brad likes as the Turkish Cinema Snob. Perhaps Deja View will find it someday...
+Rhys Causon It's probably a missunderstanding, I always thought it odd for the Snob and Kung Tai Ted never to be at the same place, until their big fight.
I was kind of hoping we'd be talking about Reb Brown as Captain America, but this movie is RIFE with comedic potential. Glad to see you're back on your feet.
14:44 to 14:54 Wait a minute, where *does* that laundry chute go? They're fighting in a secret basement that has been sealed off since the 1940s. You're telling me the secret lair under the diner has other floors below it which required a laundry chute? How deep does this basement go?
I remember watching this when I was a stupid kid and loving it. I found my old copy some years ago and watched it, and I was so underwhelmed. It's amazing how, as a kid, you can convince yourself something's good just because you REALLY REALLY REALLY want it to be.
I Love this movie . I discovered it when Marvel released the official comic book adaption in 1990, i bought the comic . Went to the local video store the same day and found the movie . I was 10 , great times . Despite its flaws here and there , the movie had a lot of heart , was well cast and well shot . It doesn't come off as campy at all either . It has a really good serious tone through out the whole thing . It looked gritty in some parts too , which is awesome . Also Red Skulls make up was practical and well done . They did try, and cared about the movie they were making and it showed . Sure it could of been better but this was still a good first attempt at a serious Captain America movie . Good stuff . I'm definitely gonna track down the 2 hour directors cut , i'd love to see it . This review was hilarious though . I laughed my ass off .
Yeah, it’s definitely better than that unreleased Fantastic Four film, and the ‘70s Captain America TV movies. Plus it’s cool that legendary author JD Salinger’s son Matt played Captain America.
+Tareltonlives Indeed. I wasn't able to follow on Brad since my house has no internet 'til the end of this month but it's fine to see him doing fine even though I didn't know he had a head injury. Hope he's feeling better cuz that's more important than waiting for another episode of The Snob. :)
+Kingssoldier It was a simpler time when all comic book nerds, regardless of their affiliations, could get together and talk about their favorite comics and characters without starting a flame war.
I can tell you Brad, that this film was conceived at Cannon with Michael Winner directing and also took the writing choices with a tv British writer Stan Hey, which I have a hard copy of the script and it's bloody awful but the WW2 stuff is really good, but the later parts are just horrid, and I remembered Lawrence J. Block (whose story credit is in the film) wrote a script, not perfect but Red Skull was pretty much good menace tone to the script, and I remembered Marlon Brando was going to be the red skull in Winner's version but Winner admitted not talking to him about the project, and Stephen Tolkin wrote a script for John Stockwell to direct, but it wasn't made until this was made with Tolkin's script. Tolkin recalled his experiences of watching the film where it was not a good experience, and he was comatose after the film was finished where several of his friends had to carry him psychically to a sushi bar and pour Sake down his throat in order to revive him.
Hard to believe this was made the year AFTER Batman. This would have still been terrible before that, but it is just embarrassing to think that they believed this would be a blockbuster.
Sorry, I know this is a 4 year old comment and there isn't much point to answer, but I feel some context is important. For one, Batman had 3 times the budget this one had. Two, this one was released as a direct to video and TV movie getting a theatre release in only a few countries. So we're not talking the same project scale.
I still remember asking my mom to buy this movie for me. Funny enough, I don't remember too much from where I was a little kid. This masterpiece must have left an impression.
After doing some research (aka looking at Google Maps), I have determined that Captain America flew over the White House heading south. How the hell did he end up in Alaska?!
I remember seeing a poster for this at my local theater in 1989. I was either seeing Last Crusade or Bill and Ted. I'd wondered why it never came out. I didn't know until a few years ago that it became a direct to video movie.
Hi, Im Matt Salinger, son of JD Salinger, one if the greatest American novelists if the 20th century. Director: Welcome sir, i remember reading Catcher in the Rye in high school. MS: So, my agent didnt give me too many details. What was the name of this movie again? Director: Oh ok. Its called Revenge of the Nerds
Captain America doesn’t seem to mind the fact that he was frozen in time for almost 50 years, making me think that that aspect of the story was completely pointless and could have been cut out entirely
I was just giving a thumbs up when I noticed the likes, there was zero dislikes and as I reloaded the page there it was, one dislike. I was thinking that maybe sometimes people just get a thumbs down to be that one person just because they have that chance...not to say it isn't difference of artistic opinion or otherwise
I'm picking up on the Menahem Golan style now. Significantly cheaper than a theatrical film, but too expensive to be hid under the radar. They all basically look like Mac and Me.
+Sambou Jaiteh Pretty much. If you look at their filmography you'd be shocked to see how many C+ to B+ named actors there was in their films. Stallone being the rare A list at the time.
First, I just want you to know how relieved I am that you're doing better Brad... Second, loved the review, as always. I missed my weekly Cinema Snob very much... The "1990" Captain America movie looks less like a superhero movie, and more like something a bunch of people made because they were bored and had nothing better to do. Although, Ronny Cox does look like he might have some life to give to this crap. He's always fun to watch... Also, I can't wait for the next Friday the 13th review... Unlikable teenage characters, telekinetic powers, horrible psychologists, and Kane Hodder's first time under the mask... Yahoo! P.S... As much as I enjoyed this review, I still insist that you review the Reb Brown Captain America movies. I really think they'd make for some great episodes!
Nice review! I'm a little surprised that you didn't do a theme week for your 350th episode special, like how you did Pierre Kirby Week, _E.T._ Week and Sasquatch Week, but maybe you're holding that off until a later date. Can't wait to see your next _Friday the 13th_ review!
good to have the snob back. ^^ I'll bet he's probably saving The Daylight Zone for later as well as Eaten Alive (not the Tobe Hooper film) and Night of the Seagulls soon too.
True story Brad, when I was a kid, in the 90's, me and my Parents would go up to Base for our Grocery shopping. Sometimes we'd stop at this local "Food Mart" just for the hell of it, and they used to have a shelf of all these movies on VHS. My Dad rented it and I watched it. For the time I thought the movie was pretty good. But after watching some reviews, clips, and among others, I can see how cheesy this movie really is. I will say it at least tried to follow the comics very well, for the first half but then it all goes downhill when he gets frozen after his first fight with the Red Skull. Not mention rushing his adventures in WW2 was completely stupid, his early adventures were in WW2. Also they completely butchered the Red Skull by making him an Italian stereotype. And this was before Spider-Man 3 butchered Sandman by making him a wussy struggling Dad with a dying daughter. Seeing movies like this makes me appreciate how far we came when it came to comic book movies. We now have movies like "Iron Man", "The Avengers", "Captain America:The Winter Soldier", "Guardians of the Galaxy", and this year's "Captain America:Civil War". And we got more on the way. Good episode man. :)
He distracted Red Skull with a recording of his family being murdered, then killed him too?
Well, that's a little dark.
Well, Cap IS a Hydra agent....
Now he is.
He thinks he is. He really isn't.
He thinks he is. He really isn't. But he still is, too.
IT'S TIME TO STOP
I ran in to a Turkish gentleman recently who was almost the spitting image of Brad. I like to think somewhere on the internet he's reviewing all the films Brad likes as the Turkish Cinema Snob. Perhaps Deja View will find it someday...
Turkish Brad reviews American Cinema Snob.
Just SHUT up
4:23 Ah yes the old "Psych, Hitler!", always a classic.
'HAIL HYDRA!'
Wait a second.
Brad had a head injury and now Snob has too?
It's like these two guys are connected somehow...
It's funny how you never see them in the same room... One of them must be a superhero!
+Rhys Causon
It's probably a missunderstanding, I always thought it odd for the Snob and Kung Tai Ted never to be at the same place, until their big fight.
+Kaefer1973
Speaking of Kung Tai Ted, didn't he suffer an injury of some sort as well?
Assiman
Him being bound to the wheelchair seems to imply so.
Another wacky internet conspiracy theory! Will it never end!
"Is that how they say goodbye in Germany? I like the Austrian way better."
I understood that reference.
You dont want to know how we ask what time it is!
can you explain it to me?
I was kind of hoping we'd be talking about Reb Brown as Captain America, but this movie is RIFE with comedic potential. Glad to see you're back on your feet.
Yeah, the Cap movies from the 70s are just incredibly boring, made all the stranger since it stars Reb mother fucking Brown!
"Fireproof" in 1943, more often than not, meant "made from asbestos". Does the super soldier serum prevent cancer?!
Probably.
Brad, glad that you're back and feeling better. Not even Evel Knievel would've been daring enough to try Pepsi 1893 lol
14:44 to 14:54
Wait a minute, where *does* that laundry chute go? They're fighting in a secret basement that has been sealed off since the 1940s. You're telling me the secret lair under the diner has other floors below it which required a laundry chute? How deep does this basement go?

+Papallion Sunspell That and it was (sadly) the "best" Marvel Movie at the Time. ^^
Yeah, it’s definitely better than that unreleased Fantastic Four film, and the ‘70s Captain America TV movies. Plus it’s cool that legendary author JD Salinger’s son Matt played Captain America.
In all seriousness, I'm glad to see you're all right.
+Tareltonlives Indeed. I wasn't able to follow on Brad since my house has no internet 'til the end of this month but it's fine to see him doing fine even though I didn't know he had a head injury. Hope he's feeling better cuz that's more important than waiting for another episode of The Snob. :)
Adrian Fahrenheit Have any proof?
Adrian Fahrenheit When was that released?
No, Doug made a review of this same movie a few years ago
+Tareltonlives Insert the Nerd's comment about "There is no sign up sheet for reviews."
What amuses me about Dick Jones as the president here is that Bob Orton is the president in Iron Man 3
Mr Snob ! (thumb up), Thanks !...P:S- Welcome back Brad.
You should do 1978 Doctor Strange before Doctor Strange is released
Or you could just watch the review by Nash, Linkara, Film Brain, and the late JewWario.
Considering his recent trend, i'm sure thats what he will do.
Jambopaul The Gamer in Pyjamas True dat, yo.
+SpeedyEric1 But then I'd be watching Linkata....
Deebo Molina that's much better than this piece of shit.
Happy to see you're back and doing well, Brad! :)
We don't talk about this one, or the 40's serials, or the fact that Chris Evans was the Human Torch
I understood that reference
WHEN CAPTAIN AMERICA THROWS HIS MIGHTY SHIEEEEEEELD! ALL WHO CHOSE TO APPOSE THE SHIELD MUST YIEEEEELD!!!!
+Alonso Arana Or that fake one with Spiderman as a villain.
Buzzing Sign Diner I didn't even know that one existed
+Alonso Arana Don't forget not talking about those POS movies from 1979 starring Reb "the human blowhorn" Brown.
"Oh someone fucked that.." I'm dying here! I love how angry his face is when he does these types of reviews. Pretty much only reason why I subbed!
that made me so much that I had to pause the video!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great episode and great to see you well and back in action!
Sorry to hear about your hospital stay, hope you're better. Thanks for the review.
Glad to see you're recovering well! I really appreciate the 'Dead Alive' reference.
When she says forever. I'm reminded of the twins in the shining.
So sorry to hear about your injury. So glad to hear that you are OK.
When I saw Captain America I thought he was doing the Reb Brown one. But this'll do fine too. Good to have you back, Snob.
Flint Ironstag
Glad to see you're back in full form, Brad.
Also, CALLED IT!
Hey Mr. President! Jesus, bro!
+Mal Why can't I find that review anymore? LOL
No "Hey Mr. President! Chicks, bro!"? Waw, Jesus bro REALLY took a life of its own by now over its predecessor...
Welcome back Brad. Glad to see you're better.
This aired just 2 days before my birthday. Thank you, Brad.
The delivery of the "oh, but why, it was so good" was just perfect, lol.
They mentioned Superman in a MARVEL movie WOW!
+Kingssoldier It was a simpler time when all comic book nerds, regardless of their affiliations, could get together and talk about their favorite comics and characters without starting a flame war.
This is why Superman works alone
You are not Superman you know.
Because Captain Marvel would be less well known and more anachronistic.
So did the 2002 Spider Man
I can tell you Brad, that this film was conceived at Cannon with Michael Winner directing and also took the writing choices with a tv British writer Stan Hey, which I have a hard copy of the script and it's bloody awful but the WW2 stuff is really good, but the later parts are just horrid, and I remembered Lawrence J. @@nicolasgarant9124 Plus this was made by the Cannon Group. A notorious schlock factory.
never realised how much of this is also in the first avenger.
Glad to see you're well. That tweet from Brian creeped us all out.
19:44
“I just decapitated a hot chick! I _am_ the great american hero.”
it just hit her in the head.
Nameless Avenger lol nostalgia critic
jekblom123 Then how come we never see her again?
I still remember asking my mom to buy this movie for me. Funny enough, I don't remember too much from where I was a little kid. This masterpiece must have left an impression.
So you notice Ralphie’s parents but no ‘Deliverance’ gag with Ned Beatty and Ronnie Cox? Bah!
From the Nostalgia Critic review:
"Captain America! Bravely abandoning the people who help him in his time of need!"
19:11 ...WHAT WITH THE PIANO!?
I clicked on this and got an ad for Pure Flix. I am so happy right now.
Here is your obligatory "You can't do this. The Nostalgia Critic already did!"
So glad to see the snob is back
After doing some research (aka looking at Google Maps), I have determined that Captain America flew over the White House heading south. How the hell did he end up in Alaska?!
Shhh...
Maybe he did a U-turn?
He just kept kickin those flanges!
I remember seeing a poster for this at my local theater in 1989. I was either seeing Last Crusade or Bill and Ted. I'd wondered why it never came out. I didn't know until a few years ago that it became a direct to video movie.
4:31 Ayyyy, a film reference you made that i actually got
Could you do the Reb Brown's Captain America?
Welcome back, snob!
glad your feeling a bit better brad keep getting better
Glad you're feeling better!
Hi, Im Matt Salinger, son of JD Salinger, one if the greatest American novelists if the 20th century.

Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty were both in Deliverance.
Aww man I thought there was gonna be a Friday the 13th review cause of this Friday but this is even better. Glad to have you back snob
Same. I was all excited for New Blood. But now, New Blood can wait.
I'm very glad you're alright and feeling better Brad.
so that's why missed ya buddy welcome back
Captain America doesn’t seem to mind the fact that he was frozen in time for almost 50 years, making me think that that aspect of the story was completely pointless and could have been cut out entirely
Welcome back. Glad you are ok. Keep this comedy gold coming along.
WELCOME BACK BRAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GLAD YOU'RE DOING BETTER :D :D :D
Ronnie Cox is president? So Captain America is safe but SG-1 is screwed.
Love ya, welcome back.
Great review. Even better than Doug's.
Mr President? Jesus, man!
6:38 , i always wondered WHY didnt the red Skull cut Steve instead of hacking off his own hand?
i loved this movie when i was a little kid, my dad worked for a vhs rental store and used to bring it home for me all the time.
MMMHH, 40's chemistry, back when no-one talked to each other, and it was BETTER that way!
1:48 nice save Brad! Couldn't imagine the amount of comments correcting that.
You're comedy chops and writing is great!
6:18 My first thought was, "That looks like Donald Trump. Shit."
One of the payTV channels here was promoting Captain America for a week, having people think it would be the 2011 one. It ended up being this thing.
Honestly, it's great to see you back in action.
It's like you were saying in another review, Brad: Superman would destroy half a city and blow up a gas station
When someone says "Captain America" I go "the one with Psyche Hitler, the one with Reb Brown, or the new ones?"
Psyche Hitler?
+TheAirBear2000 Oh ok thanks.
Bolt Vanderhuge
I hope you feel better, Brad. Welcome back.
Music is from Southside Johnny.
happy see snob make review again i love war room review just awesome
Feel better, Brad!!!!!
-Mr president!(Turns head)-Jesus man :D

great review brad . nice to see more of the movie reviewed :)
Please do the Reb Brown one too Brad.
Fridge Largemeat
Hope you feel better
Congrats on gettin better.
4:32-4:36

great video as always,snob!
We love you Brad!
haven't laughed this frequently in ages
So... Mr No Legs next week, Brad?
I'm so hoping for the Generation X tv film gets reviewed
good to have the snob back. ^^ I'll bet he's probably saving The Daylight Zone for later as well as Eaten Alive (not the Tobe Hooper film) and Night of the Seagulls soon too.
Hope you're feeling better Cinema Snob, take care of yourself!!!
This is the most unheroic Captain American ever.
Needs more Bucky!!!
You should review the 1979 Captain America with Reb Brown as Captain America!
I was expecting a Bad Dudes reference to the President being kidnapped.
I was not disappointed! ^_^
….I’m glad someone mentioned this.
How the full did Ned Beatty get talked into this?
Deliverance and Superman 1 were way better movies

Did Bon Jovi write the Bad Medicine speech?
This is the highest quality version of this movie I've ever seen!
Anyone else want a crossover between Captain America and Heil Honey, I'm Home?
I think I read an HP Lovecraft story about that occurence.
Thats not Reb Brown
