Here's just a quick first-look at the newly released Peregrine Awning by 23Zero USA. We're looking forward to putting this through it's paces in the southwest winds! NOTE: The fitment on the rear hatch can be adjusted for better clearance... we were just in a hurry for this one. Stay tuned for a full review...
23Zero makes great products, but all of those 270 shades are short and only have one setup configuration. We like having our 8x8 awning on the side (with optional room) and a 4x6 on the back. It gives us the flexibility to only use the back for quick lunches on the road. We use the back one 3x more often than the side. Looking forward to your full review.
Definitely changed their design since this video, I just got mine the other day and they've changed the brackets and the 3 way Velcro strap etc I absolutely love mine and will definitely be posting s review video
I have the Darche 180 like you, and my tape is doing the same thing, it doesn't leak at those but we get the rain into the front then poops out the back. Nice, I really like it.
Assuming you’re talking about the wagons tailgate lifting?? Did you end up getting one? It doesn’t actually look like that much move coverage to be honest
Looking forward in the full review to hear the value argument compared to other awnings in the market. Let's hope this isn't another Garmin Overlander! Would also like to hear about parts support, not a question of if my awning is going to break but how easy is it going to be to get it fixed.
I'm a big fan of shade from sun and cover from rain, but I haven't pulled the trigger on an awning because of two reasons: 1- I don't have room on the side of my rack with everything else (hilift, maxtrax, shovel), and 2- every friend I know with an awning has had it destroyed in the wind. This one looks like it might stand a chance in the wind, so I'm anxious to see how well it holds up for you as you adventure with it.
Awnings are literally a sail and an unexpected wind or gust can indeed snap them. That's why we are religious about always staking them down; even when it seems calm. Thankfully this version has enough strength to put up with a bit of wind without tie-downs which makes setup and pack-down less of a risky business.
The overall design looks nice and I wish I had aluminum hardware on my batwing. But the coverage on the rear looks pretty horrible. Without a hatch it doesn't look like it provides a lot of shelter. The rear section seems really small.
Both sizes of the Rhino Rack Batwing's are significantly less expensive and cover way more of the tail gate imo. My buddy has their Dome 1300 awning and it allows him to fully open his hatch and be protected from the elements. I think he only paid $300 for it! We've been in some serious rain and wind with no issues staying dry.
I have the Darche 270 & Love it!! Over all I would say it is larger than this one though, especially the area at the rear which has better coverage which is important for me, as the last vehicle it was on had one large side opening door. (RHD so the door went to the right looking from the rear) )I could swing it out with a trailer on, having a pole each side of the trailer draw bar. It's about to go onto my new (old Camping Truck. A Suburban with Barn Doors) so I expect it will also have just as good coverage. I have had some issues with it, especially with the zip from all the dust we had here in Oz. I enjoyed watching the video though. Thanks.
Was at a camping show and the rhino rack one seems flimsy. The salesman even offered to include extra hinges as he had one snapp on him... Rhino Rack awning weighs 19kgs whereas the Darche and 23Zero weigh 27kgs, but they are much more solid and rigid. But hey, that's just me. And I'm looking to put one on a van to cover the side and barn doors...Im after durability
Reasons for mounting awning on the passenger side: 1) It's the side away from the road in the US, opposite of right hand drive countries 2) RVers usually park facing east, so awning is facing south and west keeping interior cooler over the course of the day 3) Allows shelter/shower to be placed on driver side as shown.
Now that you have the tent on top of the rig with the awning does it interfere with getting the tent cover back on and zipped up etc? Seems like we spend some time standing on that driver side trying to get the tent stuffed back in the cover and zipped on that side and having the awning there would make it that much tougher to get at that area.
@lifestyle overland. Great video. Do you know if you can mount this to your standard 2017 four runner sr5 roof rack? Also, I noticed that the rear door rubbed against the bar from the awning. Did you find a solution for that by chance? Thanks
What are them spare wheel braces called on the back there? I've got a 2010 Mitsubishi Challenger and I too have a hatch and looking to get one of them braces installed for my spare wheel rather than underneath or inside
Very nice Awing. Love how heavy duty the unit looks. I have destroyed and rebuilt a few wing awnings in my time camping in Australian outback. What are parts like to get and what price
This looks like a darche clone. Same pegs same ropes , carry bag. Only thing I don’t see the same is coverage it appears the 270 models cuts the galley or rear of the truck short? Thoughts? Compared to the darche eclipse 270.
Дружище, это классная штука! Подскажи, насколько она безопасна, если поднимется даже не очень сильный ветер? Её не оторвёт вместе с крышей?😀😀. Спасибо за видео. Успеха тебе!
Looks good... Bit interested how it would look and work on a tacoma with a hard shell top with prinsu rack system for both the cab and the shell. Any possibilities to preview on that?
Johnny Brewer To paraphrase your comment, "barely covers the tailgate". Sliding the install further to the rear might improve coverage. I mean, that’s where most of the activity takes place. Poorly designed, IMO.
Have you compared one of these to Rhino-Rack Batwing? Batwing is a little less weight, but i always wonder about the nylon and pole strength difference, and space they take up.
Looks nice! But... It doesn't really cover the back trunk area. Kinda sucks. Will keep looking, but will note this one, in case I don't find anything else
Looks great! Now the important question is... “What does @mrslifestyleoverland think of it?” Since she’s the one that often uses it? Cheers from her #1 fan!
Curious if it complete covers the back? In a review by Live Work Wander on the Rhino 270 Batwing awning, one of Jorge’s frustrations was that it didn’t completely touch the back of the vehicle, so more like a 265 degree awning.

@@LifestyleOverland thanks Kevin. It looks like pretty good kit...very solid build. I'd like to see a bit more coverage in the rear section of the awning (its not quite a full 270) for outdoor cooking out the back of a rig. Thinking this could be a good addition to the GFC camper and RTT.
Seems like a waste if it doesn't cover the hatch and side of the vehicle completely, because rain can get in and to me, that would defeat the purpose. Nice video though and thank you for sharing this information.
Question what does it cost where you are? In South Africa they rip the proverbial ass out the chicken as we pay an arm and a leg for any 4x4 stuff. Suffering to get anything at a decent price here.

Lifestyle Overland looking forward to the full review. Who makes those pants?
So I don't see a more in-depth review as mentioned. Am I missing it? What about an update? How is it doing today?
Thats a really nice Awning. In the market for one so great to see this thing in action. Appreciate the video and look forward to more.

I think to be a full 270 degree it should cover your full tailgate - like the Bush company 270max
LOOKS GREAT! HAVE TO SEE WITH A SLIGHT BREEZE . BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! GOD BLESS YOU & FAMILY ALWAYS ! ENJOYED !
So...what is your evaluation a year later?
The overall design looks nice and I wish I had aluminum hardware on my batwing. But the coverage on the rear looks pretty horrible. Without a hatch it doesn't look like it provides a lot of shelter. The rear section seems really small.
You’re right. The hatch covers more of the rear end than the awning.

I've been researching awnings for my 4runner and I though I had settled on the rhino rack awning but now this one seems like a solid contender.
Did you come to a conclusion? I too and comparing this to the Rhino-rack
Batwing

You should get the wall kit and review that too!
Thank you for sharing your experience! Can you open the trunk door all the way up with batwing awening? 🤔
Have you ever done a discussion on driver side vs passenger side for the awning location? We are considering this issue currently.
Reasons for mounting awning on the passenger side: 1) It's the side away from the road in the US, opposite of right hand drive countries 2) RVers usually park facing east, so awning is facing south and west keeping interior cooler over the course of the day 3) Allows shelter/shower to be placed on driver side as shown.
i know im late in saying this... but, adding spacers on the under to lift it higher so that the door doesn't hit at all

Seems like we spend some time standing on that driver side trying to get the tent stuffed back in the cover and zipped on that side and having the awning there would make it that much tougher to get at that area.
Sell your rooftop. Save some extra cash and go buy yourself a alucab tent. So much better than zipping rooftop tents up!!!! problem solved
I agree, but not big enough for the family.
Where did you get that bracket?? Custom made? Will it’s fit the the regular awning?

Nice one cool awning 👍😎
what type or brand of brackets did you have on there in the roof rack originally?
That’s a nice upgrade. A 4Runner with wings.
Looks great. Buy a second one for the other side and I think with enough speed you might get off the ground. Hahahahaha Safe travels. Cheers!!!
That's the 360° Hang-Glider Edition 👍 🤣
Nice!
Seems a bit lacking in coverage over the rear of the vehicle. Will be curious how you rate the awning after putting it through its’ paces.

is 270 the biggest on the market? how fast can you close up if the wind are too strong?

How much do those run? I LOVE the idea of 270 awnings.
To call this a 270 degree is a bit of a stretch, being that the panel that makes it so, only covers the tail-gate.
Johnny Brewer To paraphrase your comment, "barely covers the tailgate". Sliding the install further to the rear might improve coverage. I mean, that’s where most of the activity takes place. Poorly designed, IMO.
Do you think it would interfere with a 5th Gen with the Gobi ladder??

I like the other mounts better (Darchi). I would not want to mount the others to the expanded metal mesh.
It really only covers half the back though doesn’t it.
I believe you overhang it on the back of the roof rack so it comes around better.
