Your watching Primal Outdoors - Camping, Overlanding and Van Life. I am living the van life in my Ford E350 4x4 Van traveling around the remote public land system in Oregon.
When you hem the back side flap, maybe you could throw some magnets In there so it stays on the roof
Put magnets on that flap so it stays on your roof and provides shade.
Was looking through the comments to see if anyone posted this as it seemed a simpler way to go for the flap imo as well.
I have a 180 awning on my trailer that has been awesome...love it. Word of caution though... lash it down real good with stakes and it'll take a lot of wind....40-50mph no problem. I made the mistake of lashing mine down poorly in soft soil on the rim of Owyhee and had a freak wind blast come up the canyon and blew my awning straight up... looking like a huge sailfish! It ripped the stakes out of the ground and bent all 3 of those thick metal brackets 90 degrees in a flash and it was over. Awning itself was okay...folded it up and had to finish the trip with no awning and fixed the mounting brackets once I got home. I have the wall kit too.. which is a whole nuther story lol. I have some videos of the Owyhee experience on my channel btw...
This is a good piece of kit, we have had the 23 ZERO 270 driver side, on our truck for 4 yrs now. Water pools a little during heavy rain, not a big deal- free wash water and boil it for tea. Have fun go Offroad
I have a different manufacturer but same awning on my long body econoline!! Everyone loves it!! Get a few magnets for the upper flap n a step stool to pack it away.. the Velcro straps always get stuck behind the arms when I fold mine up!! Taken some branch strikes n 30*mph winds without an issue!!
We've avoided these wrap around awnings because it seems that you can not lower one corner when raining. We like having an awning on the side and a 4 foot one on the back. It will be interesting to see how you like this one.
Looks sharp and the extra coverage will be super nice. It'll be interesting to see how it does in the wind!
When you him the flap and put the rubberized magnets so it will stay on top of the van stop the rain from coming in from the top.
I was camped next door to Jase and Morgan at the Patreon campout and I can safely say that their van is one of the most amazing overlanding rigs I have ever seen! A lot of thought and planning went into that van.
I have the Chinook Van. But it's only a dually rear drive E350
460 cubic inch. ford V-8 with generator
No solar
Not AWD.
Instead of sewing the hem how about sewing in magnets to attach the flap on top of the van. That would prevent more rain from dripping in. Love our 23Zero awning and shower room.
I like the way that looks and attaches to your current setup. I was wondering if the 270 systems would work correctly on a van setup, good to see it does. Thanks for the informative vid.
Just a great product in my opinion. Have one for our hiker trailer. Total game changer. Have been out in some pretty brutal weather and never had to use the extra supports. Will always have one on whatever vehicle I use for camping. Hope it works for you but I’m sure you will be completely happy with it. Set up and take down will be under a minute for you soon. Thanks for the content
Hi Jason, why not stitch strong magnets to that extra flap and let it rest on the roof. That way it may stop rain dropping down onto the door. Just a thought. Regards Mario 🇦🇺
Looks great. Enjoy!
Got this on my OGT trailer and it's great. With the walls and the propane fireplace (or buddy heater) I've stayed warm and happy during some typical Oregon rain storms. Guy is down well and wind isn't an issue.
Hey man, great stuff! I just met you a few days ago down by the river, I'm the guy with the ATV carb issue. Glad I ran into you so you could intro me to your channel. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more great content! Be well out there.
I like M too , who doesn't 👌
We have the 23zero Peregrine and it is the best awning out there with the light shield technology
This is so awesome! That extra coverage is going to be a game changer. It also looks great with the rest of the van set up.
Pop a couple of magnets on that flap and you can tug it up back to repel rain etc.
I have all 23zero rooftop stuff. The awning is great and will last you a long time. You can get the sides and it becomes expanded living space with a propane fire pit in the winter.
Thank you again for your awesome video.
Velcro exposed to weather breaks down quickly. You might want to do some kind of snap upgrade eventually.
I saw you drive by on 80 yesterday through Reno. Excited to see where you’re off to.
Hey Jason instead of hemming that flap why not put some rare earth magnets along the edge and let it stick to the roof? Might be a good way to keep rain from coming in and not interfere with your door. Have a great time this fall and remember winter is coming 😆
Nicely done that is badass. It's going to give you so much more cover.
It's a great awning. I have their 180r and only sometimes wish I got the bigger 180. But I love it and have had on well over a year with 0 complaints
Jason you should have been a high school shop teacher or maybe a overland teacher if you will. Great job on explaining things to idiots like me. Enjoyed the video brother.
Hey brother really enjoy your content. A little off topic, hows coyote works doing? He hasn't done a video on a minute. Just wondering if you have reached out to him and do a brother check. Thanks...
I second that thought. Was planning on doing a Coyote Works search tonight. Hope all's well there. Thank you too for all your great work too!
I've been wondering about Casey with Coyote Works also. Haven't seen anything on TH-cam, IG..
I had a chance to speak with him recently and he tells me that he's had kind of a busy summer. Maybe we'll see him out later this fall who knows? I think he's aware that he's being missed. Did you check out his latest one from this past May?
Here in Aridzona it hits 118 degrees and just stays there!
Awnings work
Love it, I think you're going to enjoy it, such easy deployment.
Man, I love that awning!
Seems like it has great coverage, and is relatively easy to mount, deploy, and put away.
This should really enhance your camping experience.
Go For It
Beautiful...
I love this, it looks great on the van!
Dang. I liked the other set up just fine, but that’s freakin nice.
Very nice !
That awning looks fantastic 😍😊 and I really like the amount of coverage it has under it as well can't wait to see 🙈 it in use out on the trails camping 🏕️🥾
Awesome! 👍🏻😎
I think Phil from Down2mob has one on his Jeep, provides some great cover over a large area.
Can’t wait for the winter content
Jason, as always, great video. These really do help. As you use the awning in your adventures and we get more interested, questions will arise. So we will replay this video again to get tips on the setup and adjustments. Skillet
Real nice Jason!!!
I've got the same one and I love it!
Looks really good hope it works well for you
👍👍👍👍👍, Nice upgrade !
NICE, I might get that awning ??????? PERFORM WINTER PREVENTIVE Maintenance .....
That’s a sweet awning, Jason! Seems deployment and setup is much faster than the previous roll out awning (I know my 270 awning is much less hassle compared to the roll out I had).
The shirt is even sweeter, can’t deny that 👌
Looks like a rebranded Darche awning :P The Darche 270 I have on my Tacoma is AMAZING, so if the quality of the fabric and the metal joints hold up, then that's great!
Looks great!
Can you add snaps or magnets to the bottom of your roof rack to attach the door flap? Shortening it would allow rain to sneak by.
Sweet!
You could stitch some Velcro on that flap instead in case you wanna use it if it's raining
thats a very nice awning
Oh jeez, why didn't you get this last year? You solved a problem of how to use the brackets that came with my OVS 270 awning I put on my GoFast camper. I ended up buying the gofast awning brackets, but they are a tad too low. I could have used the original brackets and attached to the beef rack bars like you did. Doh! Oh well, brackets ended up at the recycling at the transfer station.
That awning looks almost exactly like my OVS 270.
Love the van, that awning should be a nice edition. I'm using a tarp for the moment but need to upgrade to something like this. Great content, btw I'm a friend of Jon aka Wingman115. Cheers, Dana
Great looking awning, a little wider in the back would be nice. And it's a good thing your 7 feet tall you can reach it with out a ladder.
looks good 👍
Impressive!
That aging is awesome. I wish you would of gave approximate cost. But good video.
You have to watch out using stainless steel bolts with Aluminum . I had allot of corrosion happening on my roof rack so I went back to using zinc plated steel bolts
Great video. Glad I watched b4 opting for a Fiamma. I have a 2007 E150 with a Fiberine high top on it. What did you order and who from. Most videos I have watched are Aussie and they talk about driver side and passenger side which is OK but opposite from the good ole USof A. What did you order. Placement appears to be above the side doors. Before I go this route I will have to figure out how to attach the awning to the Fiberine top itself. I have the reinforced version so I am sure it would be strong enough, just configuring the brackets to attach to wall will be the issue. Where does front of awning land when fitting the unit to the vehicle? - near the back of the front passenger door or more towards the cargo doors.BTW, any wind noise as you go down the road. Thanks for your videos and thanks in advance for any response you may wish to give.
Yay!!
GOSTO MUITO DOS TEUS VÍDEOS!!!! ASSISTO AQUI DE TRAMANDAÍ RS BRASIL. ABRAÇO
Nice!
Awesome channel and awning! Do you think it’s possible to flip the bracket so the awning sits higher instead of lower?
saludos cordiales desde México 🇲🇽🖐️😃
Hello from California
Jason, Any information one how the Tuttles mounted the 270 awning on their pop top? I am very interested. Thanks!
👍
Hey Jason!
Heya this off subject a bit but I know you are an Astro fan ! Can you tell me a bit about one please ?
Do you have a vid on building your roof rack?
When you going to do the roof rack?
Yes how is coyote works?
Do you still recommend this over the normal style awnings? How has it held up?
I like the looks of that! How do you think it would fit on an EB Econoline van?
Is there a way to block the rain from coming through the gap between your roof and awning?
You gonna sell the old one?
Price on some thing like this heading over to bend on Friday
They let you have a doorway inside the storage units between one another?
Hello Primal Outdoors, have you heard from #CoyoteWorks ?
That is a Bitchen awning!!!!
