This reminds me of my problem with The Walking Dead, these things would never win over humanity. If some random family in the middle of nowhere can find and exploit their weaknesses so easily I think governments across the world would be able to also
For that reason I liked the novel "World War Z", in which humanity actually wins the zombie virus outbreak. Good spin on the genre and the "logistics" behind a zombie crisis.
Not really I mean in a situation where there possibly thousands of those thing across the globe and trying to kill them with standard gun won't work what else can they do and I mean they did find a weakness they can drown which the national guard exploited which is why that island had people in the first place

Honestly to me the only zombie like apocalypses that would mean the death for humanity is Resident Evil(not the movies,fuck those),Left for Dead, The Last of Us and Call of Duty Zombies which is surprising since all of those are from games which normally up the danger level as opposed to most movie zombie movies/franchises.
When the first one ended, I just assumed in my Head Cannon, that they would hook up a speaker system on the farm constantly playing extremely high frequencies to deter any monsters nearby and immobilize them if they get too close. Seemed like a pretty obvious next step. You have the weakness, so everything you do now should be in favor of exploiting the weakness.

Imagine if the beginning had them rely on the feedback method where they were killing a few with ease only to stumble upon a variant where that same weakness doesnt apply. That overconfidence killing one of them or causing a traumatic incident
I was thinking of a scene where they are using the feedback thing, and one monster escapes, and we later see a scene where it heals it’s head with like a harder shell or something
Or, possibly, just accidently dropping the hearing aid and it breaks, and the movie is them finding another functional hearing aid. Those pieces of shit are expensive but they can break super easy. Or hell, they need batteries. Have them run out of batteries and they need to find something else to use or something, anything.
In the 1st, when the dad died and told the girl he loved her, it was a perfect emotional highpoint that drove everything home, which u really don't see in horror movies, today, anymore, plot-wise. It was the most impactful part of the story, for me. This 1 had nothing remotely close to that type of story telling & I just felt disappointed
True, nothing did hot as hard. But it built on a fascinating lore and Emmett was good. So many apocalypse films take cynicism as a good thing, so seeing a decent character do good things to help a family friend out was really nice to watch. Though there were moments where he had to be pulled.
I watched this with my brother in law and our friend, since it was her first time seeing it. When the dad died, she was bawling and went "this movie is stupid!" and kept crying even after the movie ended. It was quite funny, but well warranted since that scene really was impactful.
Sorry but his death was pretty generic. There were alot of contradictions(with basic logic) in that first movie that people don't want to admit. Namely how the little girl even figured out their weakness or the faulty sand trail logic to begin with. Try walking on sand or gravel it definitely doesn't make you quieter.
She and the other kid are taking the mantle and learn how to defeat the monsters and exploring the world. This movie is great. John added some new things.
I thought when the son finally stood up for himself and killed the monster at the end, while the daughter does the same on the island, both showing how much they take after their dad was the emotional highpoint, at least for me it was.
Its ironic to see the mother crying in front of somebody because she’s “sad” while in the previous movie, if you breathed too loudly, your organs would be turned inside-out in the next 10 seconds

Funny story: when the bear trap scene came up, I was horrified at first...and then I thought of that one Robot Chicken sketch with the gummy bear, at which point I accidentally burst out laughing in the theater.

That would’ve been perfect for this sequel. For her hearing aid’s battery to die and then needing to either find another or a battery or some way to charge it because without that feedback, they can’t fight the monsters. Giving the monsters some of their fear back.
@@dinomightstudios4119 seriously, their secret safety net is then gone and if they didn’t have a way to replace the battery, how would they go about explaining the tone to the rest of the world. Surely not everyone has the skills to make a machine to produce that sound, especially when people haven’t been collecting speakers or noisy electronics since people discovered that sound lured the monsters. Add in the fact other frequencies don’t work, and suddenly the family has a serious issue to solve
@@sambrandner You’re acting as if this is real life and not a movie… just write in a scene where they manage to find a new battery or is able to fully recharge it. Simple. It’s a movie, they’ll find what they’re looking for if that’s what the writers write. Maybe they met some people along the way who they may have tried to help, the people realize the power of her hearing aid, and then steal it from her! Now the mom and her kids would have to fight to get her daughters hearing aid back, because they NEED it. It would eliminate that new male character they introduced, but he was random and not needed for this sequel anyway. It should’ve still focused on the mom and her kids. There’s many different ways they could’ve written more a more structured storyline that presents the characters with real obstacles and challenges for this SEQUEL. That’s all we’re commenting about.
I was really hoping that they showed more of the past and how the "invasion" spread throughout the world, even on how the military responded but we only got day one for a few minutes which was interesting at first but was not enough and therefore was disappointing. Another thing that was important to note and was missing in the movie was that they may have found out the weakness of the creatures but did not have to deal with large numbers of them in the movie which lost the factor of tension by not being displaced by the idea that they can be killed.
I was hoping for more stuff about the beginning of the invasion too. And all the parts we did see from day 1 were already shown in the trailer, so it kinda ruined any element of surprise
Yea honestly from watching the trailers I thought the whole movie was going to be a prequel and show the beginning of the invasion but it only showed day 1 and only a few minutes of it at that. Which was highly disappointing, but I still enjoyed it. The first one was far better though in my opinion. I might just be biased though since I love John Krasinski

Was it ever explained why a furnace wouldn't have oxygen going into it? You know, considering a healthy oxygen supply is required for making a furnace work efficiently.
This movie was all sorts of cringe 😖 The main characters NEVER learn their lesson. They’re not forced into danger. They do stupid stuff to get themselves into it.
To put out the fires efficiently would you not have a valve to close off all oxygen to it so when you're done you can another it quickly and leave? Without making it wet so when you come back it's dry and easy to relight
@@jasperzatch610 The answer here is no. Extinguishing the flame with a lack of oxygen as opposed to letting it burn out leads to residue making it burn less efficiently and harder to relight. You really want all the fuel to clean burn.
I wasn't nearly as emotionally invested in this movie as I had been in the first one, but I couldn't quite figure out why, or put it into words, so thanks for doing that; in hindsight, the boy's appalling dumbness when leaving the bunker must have been what made me lose interest, or the guy's convenient last second save in the train wagon.

I loved this movie. I don’t watch movies for logic I watch movies for story. Tell me any fictional story with the best logistics…. There are none. A story is a beginning, middle and end that’s it. In the context of movies it’s how it makes you feel. Sure I questioned some moments that broke suspension of disbelief (creature casually riding the boat) but I was curious to know how the characters would survive the entire movie or how it would end. The whole point of these two movies is to portray a family who are forced to survive the worst case scenario, they lose a lot but it’s a story or how to use your weaknesses into strengths. It’s intimate and tight. Not an overblown militarised action horror bonanza. The film’s biggest strengths is its performances and directing. I was emotionally invested in these characters and the execution of the dark angels is solid. If a movie makes me feel scared, nervous, tense throughout then it’s done it’s Job simple.
They should have made it so the monsters learn how to close their ears when they hear the noise, it would close their existing weakness, and open up a new weakness for the characters to exploit, since the monsters wouldn’t be able to hear while the noise is going
Honestly that would be really cool. If the monster survives it the first time, it adapts to it and loses the weakness while developing a new, albeit less lethal one. Could have been dope.
I honestly find it so hard to believe that the military couldn't handle this at all. I understand these things are virtually impossible to kill, but at the same time, it seems so illogical that the military isn't even around.

What you on about dude. The guy(Cillian Murphy) did not have nearly as prominent a role as John Krasinski had in the first film. This film was about the kids. The first film was about parents protecting their kids. This film was about letting go of your kids so they can stand on their own.
It's not about that. When they open their heads there are very sensitive ears inside. Imagine the confusion they would have if the ground suddenly disappeared under them and they would hear their own frantic splashing in the water that would get in their ears. Also they are described to have armor that is so bulletproof, it can stop a sniper rifle round (.50 cal). Go out and try to swim when you weight like half a ton and don't know how to mechanicaly move your limbs to stay above water
I feel like the "Boldest, most innovative concept" is giving them a LOT of credit since many have seen how this movie basically just copied the homework of The Silence (novel), which is ironic cuz when THAT movie came out (whether good or not), everyone said it copied Quiet Place, when it was adapting the thing that Quiet Place copied. Weird how Hollywood gets away with those shenanigans.
Similarly the book Battle Royale will probably never get a movie adaptation because everyone would think it's a Hunger Games ripoff, even though Hunger Games was written after it.

The Silence movie was bad imo because of the stupid decisions some characters made (ie a dude trying to mug the family by shooting a shotgun in the air as a threat, even though at this point it’s known that the creatures hunt by sound)
It's been brought up a couple of times, so I thought I'd chime in. The whole medical kit scene does have a purpose if you pay attention to every shot. While walking up to the train, the camera tilts up reveling that Reagan is leaving bloody footprints as she walks along the railroad ties. The next morning when her and Emmett head out on their journey, she is seen with her feet bandaged up with gauge and tape. The benefit of going barefoot and walking on sand is no longer an option, shoes are the better choice, although they have their downsides in many ways. Emmett wears boots throughout the entire movie and it seems he never came up with the sand technique as the Abbott family did. Also, Reagan leaving bloody footprints makes it very easy for Emmett to track her down, making the last second save on the train much more believable.
I watched this review and decided to go watch both films back to back simply out of boredom (and cuz i am a baby and dont care for horror but figured i knew enough about them that i could sit through them) and I have to say Im quite enjoying them, simply because they *dont* spell out the necessity for everything every second to the audience. As you said, paying attention to small details is just as important as when the film decides to zoom in on a piece of important info (i.e the nail or the mom's calendar in the first film). So far ive been emotionally invested in both films, the characters have clear motivations, they have an active hand in the plot versus the plot just happening around them, and they are multi-dimensional characters. Im not saying these films are peak cinema but they have a good concept and in my opinion, execute it well enough for me personally to enjoy and be immersed in it. Maybe others will dislike it based on this or that, I know my mom would be bored by this time of storytelling and lack of action for example, but I like em. Id say my only big flaw with the first one was (potentially me missing a detail) on how the monster got in with the mom during the flooded basement scene (did Lee not cover the entrance? was it attracted by the water? I might have to rewatch it to catch it) and how they have to be kind of irresponsible parents in the beginning of the film to let the plot point of the son's death happen (Maybe it was just my parents or too much survival horror but my mom hardly ever had me, at that age, walking where she couldnt see if we were out in public, and i feel that parenting method would go double for a world like this one, and i personally felt that the parents should at least be capping the line of them walking home; dad at the front, mom at the back, for instance, instead of them just letting their kids wander behind them where they couldnt see) Regardless of my small nitpicks for literally like, two scenes, everything else I've enjoyed far more than I thought I would especially based on some reviews ive watched on youtube.
I think if the audience had to put in all the head work, they'd doing that for better purposes in their general life. Your point about the first aid kit and the bloody prints are fair but that does not undermine, in the least bit, the fact that characters in the movie series (even in the first one) were dumb AF. Hey, so there's an apocalypse out there and I might die if I did something as normal and human as sneezing? Huh, seems like the perfect time for me to abandon my mum, brother, a baby brother with a total fucking stranger, take away their only saving grace, and go out and try to save the world that very well may not even exist for no fucking reason at all. Assuming that the people who know their genre and are watching the movie for more than just dumb monster horror fodder, will make peace with 90-minutes of this stupidity, is worse than expecting them to pay attention to the "small details". If I've to pay attention like I'm sitting in a quantum theory lecture, then I'd be doing the latter because the horror element is present there as well.
She didn’t leave with a stranger. She went by her self to get help for her family and show other people how to fight back. Also that ”stranger” was a family friend.
Movie was alright, one of the best scenes for me was when the boy (I forgot the name) got caught in the bear trap, the acting was super good! The raw emotion and pain you can hear in the scream after the adrenaline runs off was enough to make my spine chill.
A definite problem lately is how a lot of sequels aren't actual continuations of the story or further explorations into established worlds but instead are just franchise installments, whose main purpose are to ensure some sequels and/or spinoffs. It felt like a lot of this film's goal was to set up part three, which will probably be, "This time... WE FIGHT BACK! ...but quietly."
This was an actual continuation of the first film. The second film opens with a prologue showing the Audience the start of this apocalyptic nightmare. The main characters continue the narrative.
A franchise instalment would be more akin to 10 cloverfield lane. In that sequel there is no direct continuation in narrative nor are any of the original characters back in the sequel. You need to understand the difference between sequels and franchise instalments.

It might have been better if it had introduced stronger aliens who were impervious to the methods that were figured out in the first one, instead of inexplicably not being able to hear as well and not being able to swim. In keeping with your videogame comparison, it'd be like if the enemies became easier to defeat as the game progressed and that really doesn't work in games or movies. Maybe they'll change course with the next one, but I'm not really getting my hopes up for part three...
I know, right after I finished this movie with my mom I just said to her, "They're milking this series for all it's got." I really enjoyed the first movie with how clever it was and liked the second movie well enough but I feel like they are just ruining this franchise by furthering it. The main allure to the first movie was the mystery surrounding the creatures and the isolation that the family had to face due to them, they had to use their own wits to survive and this franchise just makes them seem dumber in the new movie.
I've wondered why it took this one girl to be able to find the weakness, when there are millions of people using hearing aids just like hers. Then, I've wondered why people didn't create a perimeter of speakers with that feedback on a 24/7 loop, where they would be able to live normally while inside that perimeter.
In regards to your first question: there is nothing that says she's the first. But whether or not she is, it seems she is the only one in this particular area who's either still alive and/or still has functioning aids. Also, if there is someone else who figured it out, communication isn't easy. Doubtful that they'd be able to spread the info.
@@Tijjain Honestly a major goverment probably managed to find that out eventually. Jet planes, ect. They'd just hole up in a bunker with a few of those things trapped. Sooner or later someone will think, "Hey these things seem to like sound, what if we try different sounds??". Cue people using tanks with giant speakers or something to make the monsters go away.
Because we're following this family's story, not others? in The Walking Dead, we had to see them evolve and figure out new things and later discovered that there are communities that were able to get way ahead of what they found so far and were more organized. I don't see how that's an issue in a world where it's near impossible to communicate with people.

Right. Cause its like. Okay,fine. Bulletproof carapace. But they obviously have squishy insides that need to stay in tact to survive. The thing about high yield weaponry is that it doesnt matter if you stop the projectile. The kinetic energy still travels through and will fuck up any squishy bits on the inside. That's why its pointless to make/wear body armor that can stop 50BMG. Not only would the armor weigh to much to be functional. But it would still probably kill you even if you stopped the round. Because the force would be enough to fuck up your insides. It's like a small car accident.
I mean, the Navy alone is effectively immune from attack. As is every island nation, for that matter. And anyone living near a waterfall or other noisy environment.
The future predator from Primeval is a *better* monster than this no need for armor for it is speedy… no need for a clever weakness cause it is powerful enough… and it also has numbers but they act more as a military unit… also echolocation these if ya don’t know are bats

In a world where music/radio is practically death, why the hell would they put a message in music? At least send some sort of natural sound through the radio. Like emit birds chirping morse code so people can listen to it without having to worry about alerting monsters.
@@seanm.3481 Yeah but bird sounds are so common, they probably see it as more of a background noise now. I mean they dont attack every single sound. Else they'd just go ham on a waterfall all day long.
Eh not everyone knows morse code and I doubt they'd be able to edit a sound bite together with the more than limited resources they have so the music thing was a better choice
It shouldve been like when the mom was pregnant. The kid trying to hold in the scream but then eventually giving in to the pain and letting out a scream. damn this movie was disappointing
Noticing a trend of 'part II' stories completely disregarding why the first part worked and missing key people who made said first part good. In all cases people enjoy them anyway (which is okay) so likely it will not be different anytime soon.

The new main male character is extremely interesting to me, in his parallel to lee in the first movie. And the daughter becoming more like her father and the son becoming more like his mother. I loved it for many reasons but I really enjoyed this screenplay and the core concepts behind it
Loved the continuation of the theme of the family. This was a smaller, contained film - even more so than the last one because the stakes were smaller. But thematically, it was a huge movie. I love how the mother was so powerful both despite and because of the husband. I love how it felt he was still always there through the presence of his children. The way the screenplay was written is so powerful when it brings all four character's arcs into two parallels of the two kids continuing his legacy. Family. Great thematic faithfulness and execution.
Idk. I was absolutely blown away when I watched this movie. And I could still feel a lot of tension. But I do see what you mean. Giving them a very exploitable weakness does remove a lot a stakes. But I still think they did a good job with what they did.
Hold on, but at 12:00 she DID spread it to others by going to the radio that was playing. That was the entire plot device for the second film. For her to go to where the radio tower that was still playing music, and begin broadcasting the sounds so that others could fight back against the monsters. And that's a different ending to the original.
You can really tell that they weren't paying too much attention. This is literally the most significant scene in the movie. I can't tell if he just thinks the radio randomly started playing the monsters weakness or if he knows there was something behind it.
I also didn't get why they didn't understand why the girl needed the first aid kit. Her feet were bleeding all over the rail road tracks. They showed it several times lol
@@KaylaMarie_ True, but even without that injury, having something like that on hand is always smart. Better to have it when you don't need it than not have it when you do need it.
My biggest problem with the movie was the character development of the new father figure. And also how that little child at the dock magically put on a bell rope and tightened it so hard that a grown man could not untie it loose. But this is my opinion.
I think it's not so much that the rope was too tight for him, just that untying would make too much noise and he was trying to avoid that, he also knew that it was all a trap so untying it would only make things worse for him. Also I don't think it was tied since we don't see the girl tying anything, I think it was locked with something and that's why he doesn't try to untie anything, he just can't untie what isn't tied.

I'm just going to point out that bulletd are a limited resource, and they're on a sort of time crunch, as they need to get to safety before the son bleeds out.
Also they were sort of lucky that only one monster appeared. They probably wanted to get to safety instead of keep fighting since the gunshot would likely attract more, and fighting more than one at once might be risky. That´s my guess.

the original film was so incredible because it was founded upon character. This film seemed to forget that and focused instead on action. I enjoyed it but was really disappointed.
It felt like dumb action to me casue of the boy mainly and characters being dumb out of now where like they forgot thier world now needs to be slient. Instant at the first part was nice it could've been better if they didn't have the break with the old friend and the slow running away from the moster scene after the first monster being killed but instead had like 2 or 3 more show up real fast that forces them to run inside and take more immediate actions.
I did enjoy watching it. But I definitely had to turn up the "Don't fking over think it, just enjoy it" part of my brain while watching it. Which I did not have to do in the first movie.
Even thought the first movie was superior in my opinion, I still enjoyed this one. It just felt a bit “stranger thingy”, in the first movie, one creature was the ultimate danger, while in this one they fight dozens without any trouble.
Almost like they tried to pull an Aliens with this one. Aliens will forever be the kings of sequels and the most legendary sequel, these filmmakers of this "a quiet place" should shove off!
I loved this movie. I don’t watch movies for logic I watch movies for story. Tell me any fictional story with the best logistics…. There are none. A story is a beginning, middle and end that’s it. In the context of movies it’s how it makes you feel. Sure I questioned some moments that broke suspension of disbelief (creature casually riding the boat) but I was curious to know how the characters would survive the entire movie or how it would end. The whole point of these two movies is to portray a family who are forced to survive the worst case scenario, they lose a lot but it’s a story or how to use your weaknesses into strengths. It’s intimate and tight. Not an overblown militarised action horror bonanza. The film’s biggest strengths is its performances and directing. I was emotionally invested in these characters and the execution of the dark angels is solid. If a movie makes me feel scared, nervous, tense throughout then it’s done it’s Job simple.

They could have had a huge abandoned ferry full of those monsters be slowly floating towards the island so there is a constant countdown and sense of dread for what’s gonna happen when it finally reaches them. Then at the end have the deaf girl put her hearing aid to the radio mic allowing the whole island to use it to defeat all The monsters when they land. Hollywood give me money

Exactly. Went to see this film with my best friend and coming out we had this commentaries. It is a thrilling, enjoyable film, but as a sequel lacks. It doesn’t add anything to the first film, the finale is arguably the same as the first one, but now taking place in two different locations. Doesn’t expand on the nature of humanity in this post apocalyptic world as it glimpses at times, characters ignore the weakness they already know the monsters have. The danger the monsters present should escalate, or you should present a new danger, this being humans being crazy and they are even more dangerous than monsters (which they barely touched with the Dock’s folk)

Are they picking off islanders who have to come back for supplies? Why doesn’t the island itself have a sentry or watch guard - for those kind of folk, if not the monsters themselves? Would’ve made saving folks much easier.

I enjoyed the movie, but the daughter going off by herself, when she’s at a huge disadvantage by being deaf, is very silly. Also, the mom decided to go off to get medical supplies, and only mentions it to the son as a sort of afterthought, as she’s going out the door. Then the son wandering around the factory by himself? 😂 But I still enjoyed it 👏 🍿🥤
I think he knew about it since she instructed him on how to take care of the baby, but followed her to try to stop her. Now why he wandered around the factory that's on him lol
i think he was just bored or he had gone up to the factory so he could have a height advantage and see where his mum is or if emmet and his sister are coming as well
The first movie used the silence to create tension because you know, even dropping a bottle can mean certain death In the sequel, everyone is screaming and panicking, not even trying to maintain their composure like idiots who knows that the aliens have amazing hearing
Aslo what if they all stoped running aorund when it arrived and played a very intense game of red light green light without trying to make a sound instead of running aorund like a fox just got in the chicken coop
The water in the house was no deeper than 1 meter and they are way longer, maybe the monster was crawling to get a clearer noise since it was pretty loud (or maybe I was too used to the silence)
I don't think they were ever aiming for a trilogy. It seemed much more of a quick cash grab and end it at a sequel with no one intention of making a third so they wrapped it up real quick. Just for the cash while it was still on easy memory tap.
I disagree. In my opinion this film is a big improvement on the first. Hopefully it'll end on the third movie instead of succumbing to what all those other horror franchises do. Edit: damn people get mad so easily lmaoooo
14:46 was gold, and even Djimon's expression after seems to reflect the alternative dialogue. I was also expecting the islanders to be harboring a deeper secret...that they were cannibals or something, luring newcomers to their place. (perhaps that would've been too much like Terminus in TWD). That would've made this a whole lot more interesting and amped up the threat. Alas....
Though I think John Krasinki directed this film PHENOMENALLY, I also agree the story was a step-down. My biggest issues were, as you stated, that the scares felt contrived (Why would Marcus leave the bunker just to look around?!?!), as well as the fact they split up the family, which detracted from the family dynamic at the heart of the first film and led to one plot being meaningless. I will say, though, when thinking of how to keep the family together AND have them try to broadcast the signal, it is tricky to find a solution, so I get why they did what they did (Eve can't go, cause she as she can't take the baby, and I don't think she'll trust Emmett with the child, etc.). All this being said, not terrible, and would like to see a Part III out of curiosity.
The reason why he spoke to the deaf girl was in hopes she could read his lips as the movie made it very clear that Killian was not proficient in sign language. Also as a whole the reason why they run from the monsters is because as a mother you would be concerned about your kid who just steped in a bear trap rather than trying to kill every alien in the area.
I think he knows why, it’s more the point of why write yourself into that corner to begin with. I was expecting the movie to take us on a journey with the original family too, they do come across as side characters in their own movie
Just imagine all of the incredible things they could of done with this sequel, since the family lived on a farm in the original and there was barely any one around they could have made it so the family explored and discovered a bunch of much deadlier varients of the monsters. Maybe the ones at the farm are much weaker since they didnt need to evolve and theyd just chow down on wild animals near the farm. I mean imagine all the cool designs they could of made for the monsters.
imagine the ones around the farm are the bottom feeders of the species and where they're heading where the apex ones that actually defeated the military or something it could even be just one of a higher tier, much like the alien queen, that could endure their only attack against them and force them to find something else to deal with it.

Well, it's been like 450 days in the movie since the aliens arrived, so there wouldn't be much room for "evolution" but rather alphas or just stronger variants, like older aliens that are bigger, stronger and can hear a lot better, that would've been cool
I was able to enjoy the movie. It wasn't as intriguing as the first. The characters weren't as interesting, or well done. The opening was really good though. I think the movie was trying to be about the kids taking over, like becoming leaders/adults (which I could tell mostly because of the ending) but it didn't do it well. As you said, the new male character took over the story.
It felt like the new guy was shoved in thier with not much thoguht, which I think if they had him shoot the monster first instead of watching it happened he could've hade a better start in the story since he could've seen it as an opportunity to take one of those things out for revenge for his family dying by them, and the daughter losing her sense of reason when she just decided to take off without consulting the mother first and the dam annoying boy like he was complety pointless in my opinion his scenes where hes hurt annyoed me to the moon, I get the bear trap scream that would be hard to hild in but he could've done somthing to hold it in or num it down and the achool on the wound as well like hold it in a bit man it hurts but quince ya teeth or somthing and then turn aorund and try to make him show off like a badass at the end when he literally done nothing but made things worse the whole time

I'm pretty sure that the reason they ran away after killing the first creature was because they don't exactly have infinite amounts of bullets. They have to limit how many times they use the bullets and if they rinsed and repeated they would eventually ran out and now have no bullets for an emergency case... I thought that was pretty obvious
I could be wrong, but didn't they killed a bunch of them without bullets in the first movie? Like ramping up the volume, I remember some of the aliens literally exploded.

The boy and the baby scene really pissed me off to the point of literal sincere anger, that didn't happen to me in a very long time, and i watched the Star Wars sequels.

Take care of your baby brother, stay near the Furnace with him in case a monster gets close, and make sure if that happens that you don't close yourself inside like a fucking idiot. Great example showing Aliens as a horror (and that was also scifi) sequel done right. You get to build off the things that makes the xenomorph terrifying (chest burst, great hunter, etc) and now have a whole hive full of them after destroying a colony. I love how the movie starts off making you feel secure with a warship full of well armed marines then it all goes to shit soo quickly you find yourself in a survival situation. Great horror movie done right example.
The biggest part that took me out of the experience was two things. #1 Going on an island with no guards or surveillance. You’re telling me that they didnt once think that it might be important to defend against people like the ones we saw on the dock only a couple miles a way? Its just so mind boggling how none of it is explained or given a reason. #2 its basically the quiet place 1 told in a slightly different way.
Agree, the families living in the island seemed way too passive and secure there. In a world that has been hit with an alien invasion and is only survived by pockets of humans- many of which are violent, you’d think they’d have guard on lookout 24/7.. instead they are just chilling out like they are on vacation lol
@bernardo I don't think so. It's always easy to look and critique how things are done (or not done) when you're just a observer. When you're an actual player, it can be easy to miss details or ideas no matter how obvious they should be. It happens in history many times. Although, whether it should be considered a fault of the movie for not being logical is dependent on how and why it was written as such.

Agreed. The island scene made absolutely no sense. The whole thing is like some giant beach party that they stumble upon with endless supplies of beer and hot dogs around the fire. why hadn't a boatload of killers or aliens drifted there yet? Because our hero and heroine hadn't arrived yet to save the day, that's why. Such a dumb plot device. As if there aren't millions of islands around the globe that were safe from these things?!?!?!?!
8:43 Marlee Matlin won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for “Children of a Lesser God” in ‘86 or ‘87. I’m just going by recollection but I think it either won or was nominated for quite a few other awards as well. She was a fantastic deaf actress with an incredible range and shouldn’t be forgotten.
I enjoyed the opening scene that takes place when the aliens/monsters arrived on earth. I also really liked some of the cinematography and camera work. And I love the way that the aliens/monsters move around. Other than those things I felt like the sequel was pretty bland.
While I did enjoy it somewhat, it felt incredibly boring and frustrating in some parts (the wife character basically guilt-tripping the guy into risking his life to save her deaf daughter just because even AFTER they come into his hideout and almost get him killed, like wtf) and also felt like they were just doing the first movie again.
Yeah it was so weird the way she demands this guy who’s already doing them a favor to do this for her. If anything, with the way her character had been established by this point she would have asked him to watch her son and baby and tracked down the daughter herself.
I think that scene could've been improved if instead of guilt tripping him if they had an argument of her going after her own kid and then an argument of who's going to stay and watch the baby.
11:45 You are saying that the end was pointless and one of your solutions is, that they could have shared their noise thingy with other people, which is a good point but the way I took it (and Wikipedia too), that was exactly what happened when they released that sound in the radio, so now the people just have to figure out what the sound does to the aliens and spread the knowledge (I think it would have been better if they showed some of that payoff but I wouldn't say the end was completely meaningless)
I came here looking for this comment. That's what I thought the point of going to the radio station was, so that they can broadcast the signal and incapacitate the monsters everywhere within range.

I think I’m gonna be in the minority here and say that I really liked and enjoyed the movie. This is a continuation of the story, a *Part 2* so a lot of this felt natural in my eyes. It expanded upon the world and showed that people are surviving in what ways they can, some even thriving. There’s a glaring weakness of the creatures but that doesn’t take away from how dangerous they are. The movie gave me a very, “Last of Us” feeling with the atmosphere presented in it. Very much I feel this movie was to represent that there is light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not the end when we work together. That’s just my opinion though
Yeah i kinda get what this guy is saying but i think what the movie is going for is sort of a “happy ending” where the protagonists are now finding other survivors and finding a way to finally end this situation that they’re in so having them exploit the weaknesses fairly easily kinda worked.
Yeah, didn't know this movie was so hated. Maybe it's because I didn't go watch this film and expected a monster movie. The first one was more a family drama disguised as a monster movie, and I thought the second one is gonna be just like that too so that's what I came back for. If it was a monster movie first and foremost then I'd 100 % agree with Filmento here, but that's just never the vibe I got from these movies.
It's ok to explore that, but can't just abandon all the little elements that made the first one so unique..the speaking, the walking, the running...like he said, they're having full blown conversations out in the open in this one.
@@noelv1976 See that’s the thing. It’s not being abandoned at all. It’s being expanded upon. The conversations don’t just happen out of the blue. It’s at points where conversation is necessary/capable of happening. They did the same thing in the first film When someone panicked and starting speaking aloud. They got drug underneath a garage door and slaughtered outside. If you keep the story elements stagnant and don’t attempt to push forward, it’s just gonna be the same movie with a different coat of paint

And I didn't how the ending of this one. It copied the exact same thing! Also what happened to the people? It seemed like they weren't even prepared except for that one guy. And even then hr messed up because he kept yelling he needs to go back to his family. Shit made no sense! Again, just completely abandoned all the little things that made the first one great.
in the first movie the mother was so brave and resourceful and smart . in the second she was dumb and weak . they should have made her the main character
I think the mother seemed dumber in part 2 bc they focused more on the kids being brave and resourceful as they played more of the hero role this time around. Felt kind of like a passing of the torch so to speak from the parents to the children which I personally enjoyed.

I loved the first one, especially the bit where they bodied the kid. I was impressed the movie had the balls to murder a kid in cold blood IN THE INTRO. Absolutely brutal.
I gotta disagree with the idea that the new character was the issue here. He was more or less the only one with any actually good writing behind him, which makes it seem like he’s portrayed at the forefront, but in actuality the movie seems to push the deaf one being the lead even when it doesn’t make any sense. Her going out to find the island on her own is portrayed as this huge moment when it makes 0 sense for her to do anything on her own and it actively acts as if she’s right despite her even nearly getting herself killed. Even after the guy clearly saves her, the movie still has her act like he was in the wrong for not having come with her and wanting to get home despite the fact she did nothing to actually tell him where she was going or why, so he’d have no reason to. If anything it makes her basically the strongest person in the plot because it makes her look like she’s the only one with any presence of mind, so she ends up being the one to kill it after figuring out the viable method to deal with the monsters in the final scene Edit: And as for the ending being exactly the same, while I agree it’s repetitive, the whole point of them going to the radio station was to spread that weapon, which is reinforced by the whole post credit scene being them leaving the hearing aid to be able to let anyone kill them off.

While I love these videos for pinpointing why some movies feel so unsatisfying or simply provide interesting filmmaking discussions, it’s the hilarious editing like at 4:40 that keeps me coming back.
You know you’re probably absolutely right and I completely agree, but I can’t wait for the next part anyway. The movie was pretty messy and silly at times. But In the moment (at least in the theater) it was such a tense thrill ride.

I think the reason why they couldn't just weaken and shoot every creature early in the film was; limited radius for the speaker feedback, and limited ammo of course. If like 10 creatures came I feel like they'd lose.
The boy was used entirely as a plot device. The movie was like "things aren't happening, so let's make a character do something stupid just for the sake of 'action' ". I hated the kid in this movie because, all the development he made in the first movie by overcoming his fears was just totally negated and now he's back to square one.
You said something about the first one being a completely new concept but I feel they were inspired by bird box. Inspired in the best way where they then created their own story.
And they continued to use the creatures weakness till the creatures got used to it and adapted, meaning the family needed to find a new way to deal with them, while also bringing back that sense of dread. Like rat poison and New York Rats, they just adapt to the weakness and humans in turn have to adapt to that adaptation. Unfortunately, the writers forgot about 2 things (probably): Habituation and Batteries. Won’t both the hearing aid and the radio eventually run out of battery? How did that radio recording room still have power if no one is running power plants? How does none of the creatures notice gunshots, specifically shotgun shots, in the distance, when they can hear a human child screaming in the distance or a toy from a distance? Why is no one using silencers on their guns to reduce the possibility of luring other creatures, or how has no one thought to use a crossbow on the creatures? They are quieter and you can re-use the arrows/bolts unless they break. Does the deaf girl hear the radio using the hearing aid or is this similar to the time a blind guy uses binoculars in Bleach?

For that reason I liked the novel "World War Z", in which humanity actually wins the zombie virus outbreak. Good spin on the genre and the "logistics" behind a zombie crisis.

Honestly to me the only zombie like apocalypses that would mean the death for humanity is Resident Evil(not the movies,fuck those),Left for Dead, The Last of Us and Call of Duty Zombies which is surprising since all of those are from games which normally up the danger level as opposed to most movie zombie movies/franchises.
When the first one ended, I just assumed in my Head Cannon, that they would hook up a speaker system on the farm constantly playing extremely high frequencies to deter any monsters nearby and immobilize them if they get too close. Seemed like a pretty obvious next step. You have the weakness, so everything you do now should be in favor of exploiting the weakness.

In the 1st, when the dad died and told the girl he loved her, it was a perfect emotional highpoint that drove everything home, which u really don't see in horror movies, today, anymore, plot-wise. It was the most impactful part of the story, for me. This 1 had nothing remotely close to that type of story telling & I just felt disappointed
True, nothing did hot as hard. But it built on a fascinating lore and Emmett was good. So many apocalypse films take cynicism as a good thing, so seeing a decent character do good things to help a family friend out was really nice to watch. Though there were moments where he had to be pulled.
I watched this with my brother in law and our friend, since it was her first time seeing it. When the dad died, she was bawling and went "this movie is stupid!" and kept crying even after the movie ended. It was quite funny, but well warranted since that scene really was impactful.
Sorry but his death was pretty generic. There were alot of contradictions(with basic logic) in that first movie that people don't want to admit. Namely how the little girl even figured out their weakness or the faulty sand trail logic to begin with. Try walking on sand or gravel it definitely doesn't make you quieter.
She and the other kid are taking the mantle and learn how to defeat the monsters and exploring the world. This movie is great. John added some new things.
I thought when the son finally stood up for himself and killed the monster at the end, while the daughter does the same on the island, both showing how much they take after their dad was the emotional highpoint, at least for me it was.

Funny story: when the bear trap scene came up, I was horrified at first...and then I thought of that one Robot Chicken sketch with the gummy bear, at which point I accidentally burst out laughing in the theater.

That would’ve been perfect for this sequel. For her hearing aid’s battery to die and then needing to either find another or a battery or some way to charge it because without that feedback, they can’t fight the monsters. Giving the monsters some of their fear back.

Add in the fact other frequencies don’t work, and suddenly the family has a serious issue to solve
@@sambrandner You’re acting as if this is real life and not a movie… just write in a scene where they manage to find a new battery or is able to fully recharge it. Simple. It’s a movie, they’ll find what they’re looking for if that’s what the writers write.
Maybe they met some people along the way who they may have tried to help, the people realize the power of her hearing aid, and then steal it from her! Now the mom and her kids would have to fight to get her daughters hearing aid back, because they NEED it. It would eliminate that new male character they introduced, but he was random and not needed for this sequel anyway. It should’ve still focused on the mom and her kids.
There’s many different ways they could’ve written more a more structured storyline that presents the characters with real obstacles and challenges for this SEQUEL. That’s all we’re commenting about.
I was really hoping that they showed more of the past and how the "invasion" spread throughout the world, even on how the military responded but we only got day one for a few minutes which was interesting at first but was not enough and therefore was disappointing. Another thing that was important to note and was missing in the movie was that they may have found out the weakness of the creatures but did not have to deal with large numbers of them in the movie which lost the factor of tension by not being displaced by the idea that they can be killed.
I was hoping for more stuff about the beginning of the invasion too. And all the parts we did see from day 1 were already shown in the trailer, so it kinda ruined any element of surprise
Yea honestly from watching the trailers I thought the whole movie was going to be a prequel and show the beginning of the invasion but it only showed day 1 and only a few minutes of it at that. Which was highly disappointing, but I still enjoyed it. The first one was far better though in my opinion. I might just be biased though since I love John Krasinski

This movie was all sorts of cringe 😖 The main characters NEVER learn their lesson. They’re not forced into danger. They do stupid stuff to get themselves into it.
To put out the fires efficiently would you not have a valve to close off all oxygen to it so when you're done you can another it quickly and leave? Without making it wet so when you come back it's dry and easy to relight

@@jasperzatch610 The answer here is no. Extinguishing the flame with a lack of oxygen as opposed to letting it burn out leads to residue making it burn less efficiently and harder to relight. You really want all the fuel to clean burn.
I wasn't nearly as emotionally invested in this movie as I had been in the first one, but I couldn't quite figure out why, or put it into words, so thanks for doing that; in hindsight, the boy's appalling dumbness when leaving the bunker must have been what made me lose interest, or the guy's convenient last second save in the train wagon.

I loved this movie. I don’t watch movies for logic I watch movies for story. Tell me any fictional story with the best logistics….
There are none. A story is a beginning, middle and end that’s it. In the context of movies it’s how it makes you feel. Sure I questioned some moments that broke suspension of disbelief (creature casually riding the boat) but I was curious to know how the characters would survive the entire movie or how it would end.
The whole point of these two movies is to portray a family who are forced to survive the worst case scenario, they lose a lot but it’s a story or how to use your weaknesses into strengths. It’s intimate and tight. Not an overblown militarised action horror bonanza.
The film’s biggest strengths is its performances and directing. I was emotionally invested in these characters and the execution of the dark angels is solid. If a movie makes me feel scared, nervous, tense throughout then it’s done it’s Job simple.
They should have made it so the monsters learn how to close their ears when they hear the noise, it would close their existing weakness, and open up a new weakness for the characters to exploit, since the monsters wouldn’t be able to hear while the noise is going
They made it, it was a success, they're going to make a 3rd one so this guy can bitch on all day long.

I honestly find it so hard to believe that the military couldn't handle this at all. I understand these things are virtually impossible to kill, but at the same time, it seems so illogical that the military isn't even around.

Imagine traveling through space with zero oxygen for years, and then drowning within seconds.
It's not about that. When they open their heads there are very sensitive ears inside. Imagine the confusion they would have if the ground suddenly disappeared under them and they would hear their own frantic splashing in the water that would get in their ears. Also they are described to have armor that is so bulletproof, it can stop a sniper rifle round (.50 cal). Go out and try to swim when you weight like half a ton and don't know how to mechanicaly move your limbs to stay above water

I feel like the "Boldest, most innovative concept" is giving them a LOT of credit since many have seen how this movie basically just copied the homework of The Silence (novel), which is ironic cuz when THAT movie came out (whether good or not), everyone said it copied Quiet Place, when it was adapting the thing that Quiet Place copied. Weird how Hollywood gets away with those shenanigans.

Similarly the book Battle Royale will probably never get a movie adaptation because everyone would think it's a Hunger Games ripoff, even though Hunger Games was written after it.

The Silence movie was bad imo because of the stupid decisions some characters made (ie a dude trying to mug the family by shooting a shotgun in the air as a threat, even though at this point it’s known that the creatures hunt by sound)

Anatomie of a Failure lol
It's been brought up a couple of times, so I thought I'd chime in. The whole medical kit scene does have a purpose if you pay attention to every shot. While walking up to the train, the camera tilts up reveling that Reagan is leaving bloody footprints as she walks along the railroad ties. The next morning when her and Emmett head out on their journey, she is seen with her feet bandaged up with gauge and tape. The benefit of going barefoot and walking on sand is no longer an option, shoes are the better choice, although they have their downsides in many ways. Emmett wears boots throughout the entire movie and it seems he never came up with the sand technique as the Abbott family did.
Also, Reagan leaving bloody footprints makes it very easy for Emmett to track her down, making the last second save on the train much more believable.

I watched this review and decided to go watch both films back to back simply out of boredom (and cuz i am a baby and dont care for horror but figured i knew enough about them that i could sit through them) and I have to say Im quite enjoying them, simply because they *dont* spell out the necessity for everything every second to the audience. As you said, paying attention to small details is just as important as when the film decides to zoom in on a piece of important info (i.e the nail or the mom's calendar in the first film). So far ive been emotionally invested in both films, the characters have clear motivations, they have an active hand in the plot versus the plot just happening around them, and they are multi-dimensional characters. Im not saying these films are peak cinema but they have a good concept and in my opinion, execute it well enough for me personally to enjoy and be immersed in it. Maybe others will dislike it based on this or that, I know my mom would be bored by this time of storytelling and lack of action for example, but I like em.
Id say my only big flaw with the first one was (potentially me missing a detail) on how the monster got in with the mom during the flooded basement scene (did Lee not cover the entrance? was it attracted by the water? I might have to rewatch it to catch it) and how they have to be kind of irresponsible parents in the beginning of the film to let the plot point of the son's death happen (Maybe it was just my parents or too much survival horror but my mom hardly ever had me, at that age, walking where she couldnt see if we were out in public, and i feel that parenting method would go double for a world like this one, and i personally felt that the parents should at least be capping the line of them walking home; dad at the front, mom at the back, for instance, instead of them just letting their kids wander behind them where they couldnt see)
Regardless of my small nitpicks for literally like, two scenes, everything else I've enjoyed far more than I thought I would especially based on some reviews ive watched on youtube.
I think if the audience had to put in all the head work, they'd doing that for better purposes in their general life. Your point about the first aid kit and the bloody prints are fair but that does not undermine, in the least bit, the fact that characters in the movie series (even in the first one) were dumb AF. Hey, so there's an apocalypse out there and I might die if I did something as normal and human as sneezing? Huh, seems like the perfect time for me to abandon my mum, brother, a baby brother with a total fucking stranger, take away their only saving grace, and go out and try to save the world that very well may not even exist for no fucking reason at all. Assuming that the people who know their genre and are watching the movie for more than just dumb monster horror fodder, will make peace with 90-minutes of this stupidity, is worse than expecting them to pay attention to the "small details". If I've to pay attention like I'm sitting in a quantum theory lecture, then I'd be doing the latter because the horror element is present there as well.
She didn’t leave with a stranger. She went by her self to get help for her family and show other people how to fight back. Also that ”stranger” was a family friend.

Movie was alright, one of the best scenes for me was when the boy (I forgot the name) got caught in the bear trap, the acting was super good! The raw emotion and pain you can hear in the scream after the adrenaline runs off was enough to make my spine chill.
I couldn't stop because of his scream plus he didn't scream like that in the first one if so I don't know how they survived with him

A definite problem lately is how a lot of sequels aren't actual continuations of the story or further explorations into established worlds but instead are just franchise installments, whose main purpose are to ensure some sequels and/or spinoffs. It felt like a lot of this film's goal was to set up part three, which will probably be, "This time... WE FIGHT BACK! ...but quietly."
This was an actual continuation of the first film. The second film opens with a prologue showing the Audience the start of this apocalyptic nightmare. The main characters continue the narrative.
A franchise instalment would be more akin to 10 cloverfield lane. In that sequel there is no direct continuation in narrative nor are any of the original characters back in the sequel.
You need to understand the difference between sequels and franchise instalments.

It might have been better if it had introduced stronger aliens who were impervious to the methods that were figured out in the first one, instead of inexplicably not being able to hear as well and not being able to swim. In keeping with your videogame comparison, it'd be like if the enemies became easier to defeat as the game progressed and that really doesn't work in games or movies. Maybe they'll change course with the next one, but I'm not really getting my hopes up for part three...
I know, right after I finished this movie with my mom I just said to her, "They're milking this series for all it's got." I really enjoyed the first movie with how clever it was and liked the second movie well enough but I feel like they are just ruining this franchise by furthering it. The main allure to the first movie was the mystery surrounding the creatures and the isolation that the family had to face due to them, they had to use their own wits to survive and this franchise just makes them seem dumber in the new movie.
I've wondered why it took this one girl to be able to find the weakness, when there are millions of people using hearing aids just like hers. Then, I've wondered why people didn't create a perimeter of speakers with that feedback on a 24/7 loop, where they would be able to live normally while inside that perimeter.

In regards to your first question: there is nothing that says she's the first. But whether or not she is, it seems she is the only one in this particular area who's either still alive and/or still has functioning aids. Also, if there is someone else who figured it out, communication isn't easy. Doubtful that they'd be able to spread the info.
@@Tijjain Honestly a major goverment probably managed to find that out eventually. Jet planes, ect. They'd just hole up in a bunker with a few of those things trapped. Sooner or later someone will think, "Hey these things seem to like sound, what if we try different sounds??". Cue people using tanks with giant speakers or something to make the monsters go away.
Because we're following this family's story, not others? in The Walking Dead, we had to see them evolve and figure out new things and later discovered that there are communities that were able to get way ahead of what they found so far and were more organized. I don't see how that's an issue in a world where it's near impossible to communicate with people.

Right. Cause its like. Okay,fine. Bulletproof carapace. But they obviously have squishy insides that need to stay in tact to survive. The thing about high yield weaponry is that it doesnt matter if you stop the projectile. The kinetic energy still travels through and will fuck up any squishy bits on the inside. That's why its pointless to make/wear body armor that can stop 50BMG. Not only would the armor weigh to much to be functional. But it would still probably kill you even if you stopped the round. Because the force would be enough to fuck up your insides.
It's like a small car accident.
I mean, the Navy alone is effectively immune from attack. As is every island nation, for that matter. And anyone living near a waterfall or other noisy environment.
The future predator from Primeval is a *better* monster than this no need for armor for it is speedy… no need for a clever weakness cause it is powerful enough… and it also has numbers but they act more as a military unit… also echolocation these if ya don’t know are bats

In a world where music/radio is practically death, why the hell would they put a message in music? At least send some sort of natural sound through the radio. Like emit birds chirping morse code so people can listen to it without having to worry about alerting monsters.
They don't target humans. Birds chirping is pretty abrasive, and these things are from another planet. They probably kill the birds, too.

Noticing a trend of 'part II' stories completely disregarding why the first part worked and missing key people who made said first part good. In all cases people enjoy them anyway (which is okay) so likely it will not be different anytime soon.

The new main male character is extremely interesting to me, in his parallel to lee in the first movie. And the daughter becoming more like her father and the son becoming more like his mother. I loved it for many reasons but I really enjoyed this screenplay and the core concepts behind it

Loved the continuation of the theme of the family. This was a smaller, contained film - even more so than the last one because the stakes were smaller. But thematically, it was a huge movie. I love how the mother was so powerful both despite and because of the husband. I love how it felt he was still always there through the presence of his children. The way the screenplay was written is so powerful when it brings all four character's arcs into two parallels of the two kids continuing his legacy. Family. Great thematic faithfulness and execution.
Idk. I was absolutely blown away when I watched this movie. And I could still feel a lot of tension. But I do see what you mean. Giving them a very exploitable weakness does remove a lot a stakes. But I still think they did a good job with what they did.
Hold on, but at 12:00 she DID spread it to others by going to the radio that was playing. That was the entire plot device for the second film. For her to go to where the radio tower that was still playing music, and begin broadcasting the sounds so that others could fight back against the monsters.
And that's a different ending to the original.

You can really tell that they weren't paying too much attention. This is literally the most significant scene in the movie. I can't tell if he just thinks the radio randomly started playing the monsters weakness or if he knows there was something behind it.
I also didn't get why they didn't understand why the girl needed the first aid kit. Her feet were bleeding all over the rail road tracks. They showed it several times lol

My biggest problem with the movie was the character development of the new father figure. And also how that little child at the dock magically put on a bell rope and tightened it so hard that a grown man could not untie it loose. But this is my opinion.
I think it's not so much that the rope was too tight for him, just that untying would make too much noise and he was trying to avoid that, he also knew that it was all a trap so untying it would only make things worse for him. Also I don't think it was tied since we don't see the girl tying anything, I think it was locked with something and that's why he doesn't try to untie anything, he just can't untie what isn't tied.

I'm just going to point out that bulletd are a limited resource, and they're on a sort of time crunch, as they need to get to safety before the son bleeds out.
Also they were sort of lucky that only one monster appeared. They probably wanted to get to safety instead of keep fighting since the gunshot would likely attract more, and fighting more than one at once might be risky. That´s my guess.

the original film was so incredible because it was founded upon character. This film seemed to forget that and focused instead on action. I enjoyed it but was really disappointed.
It felt like dumb action to me casue of the boy mainly and characters being dumb out of now where like they forgot thier world now needs to be slient. Instant at the first part was nice it could've been better if they didn't have the break with the old friend and the slow running away from the moster scene after the first monster being killed but instead had like 2 or 3 more show up real fast that forces them to run inside and take more immediate actions.
I did enjoy watching it.
But I definitely had to turn up the "Don't fking over think it, just enjoy it" part of my brain while watching it.
Which I did not have to do in the first movie.
Even thought the first movie was superior in my opinion, I still enjoyed this one.
It just felt a bit “stranger thingy”, in the first movie, one creature was the ultimate danger, while in this one they fight dozens without any trouble.

I loved this movie. I don’t watch movies for logic I watch movies for story. Tell me any fictional story with the best logistics….
There are none. A story is a beginning, middle and end that’s it. In the context of movies it’s how it makes you feel. Sure I questioned some moments that broke suspension of disbelief (creature casually riding the boat) but I was curious to know how the characters would survive the entire movie or how it would end.
The whole point of these two movies is to portray a family who are forced to survive the worst case scenario, they lose a lot but it’s a story or how to use your weaknesses into strengths. It’s intimate and tight. Not an overblown militarised action horror bonanza.
The film’s biggest strengths is its performances and directing. I was emotionally invested in these characters and the execution of the dark angels is solid. If a movie makes me feel scared, nervous, tense throughout then it’s done it’s Job simple.

They could have had a huge abandoned ferry full of those monsters be slowly floating towards the island so there is a constant countdown and sense of dread for what’s gonna happen when it finally reaches them. Then at the end have the deaf girl put her hearing aid to the radio mic allowing the whole island to use it to defeat all The monsters when they land.

Exactly. Went to see this film with my best friend and coming out we had this commentaries. It is a thrilling, enjoyable film, but as a sequel lacks. It doesn’t add anything to the first film, the finale is arguably the same as the first one, but now taking place in two different locations. Doesn’t expand on the nature of humanity in this post apocalyptic world as it glimpses at times, characters ignore the weakness they already know the monsters have. The danger the monsters present should escalate, or you should present a new danger, this being humans being crazy and they are even more dangerous than monsters (which they barely touched with the Dock’s folk)

I enjoyed the movie, but the daughter going off by herself, when she’s at a huge disadvantage by being deaf, is very silly. Also, the mom decided to go off to get medical supplies, and only mentions it to the son as a sort of afterthought, as she’s going out the door. Then the son wandering around the factory by himself? 😂

The water in the house was no deeper than 1 meter and they are way longer, maybe the monster was crawling to get a clearer noise since it was pretty loud (or maybe I was too used to the silence)
I don't think they were ever aiming for a trilogy. It seemed much more of a quick cash grab and end it at a sequel with no one intention of making a third so they wrapped it up real quick. Just for the cash while it was still on easy memory tap.

Though I think John Krasinki directed this film PHENOMENALLY, I also agree the story was a step-down. My biggest issues were, as you stated, that the scares felt contrived (Why would Marcus leave the bunker just to look around?!?!), as well as the fact they split up the family, which detracted from the family dynamic at the heart of the first film and led to one plot being meaningless. I will say, though, when thinking of how to keep the family together AND have them try to broadcast the signal, it is tricky to find a solution, so I get why they did what they did (Eve can't go, cause she as she can't take the baby, and I don't think she'll trust Emmett with the child, etc.). All this being said, not terrible, and would like to see a Part III out of curiosity.
Why not just have them all go on a journey to the island, and use the girl being able to deter monsters as incentive for the guy to follow them?
The reason why he spoke to the deaf girl was in hopes she could read his lips as the movie made it very clear that Killian was not proficient in sign language. Also as a whole the reason why they run from the monsters is because as a mother you would be concerned about your kid who just steped in a bear trap rather than trying to kill every alien in the area.
I think he knows why, it’s more the point of why write yourself into that corner to begin with. I was expecting the movie to take us on a journey with the original family too, they do come across as side characters in their own movie

Just imagine all of the incredible things they could of done with this sequel, since the family lived on a farm in the original and there was barely any one around they could have made it so the family explored and discovered a bunch of much deadlier varients of the monsters. Maybe the ones at the farm are much weaker since they didnt need to evolve and theyd just chow down on wild animals near the farm. I mean imagine all the cool designs they could of made for the monsters.
imagine the ones around the farm are the bottom feeders of the species and where they're heading where the apex ones that actually defeated the military or something
it could even be just one of a higher tier, much like the alien queen, that could endure their only attack against them and force them to find something else to deal with it.

Well, it's been like 450 days in the movie since the aliens arrived, so there wouldn't be much room for "evolution" but rather alphas or just stronger variants, like older aliens that are bigger, stronger and can hear a lot better, that would've been cool
I was able to enjoy the movie. It wasn't as intriguing as the first. The characters weren't as interesting, or well done. The opening was really good though.
I think the movie was trying to be about the kids taking over, like becoming leaders/adults (which I could tell mostly because of the ending) but it didn't do it well. As you said, the new male character took over the story.

I'm pretty sure that the reason they ran away after killing the first creature was because they don't exactly have infinite amounts of bullets. They have to limit how many times they use the bullets and if they rinsed and repeated they would eventually ran out and now have no bullets for an emergency case... I thought that was pretty obvious

@@ladisputor maybe because I wasn't interested to watch this movie in the first place and I didn't care for the first Quiet Place movie. So whenever I'm planning on skipping a movie I just watch Cinemasins or Filmento.
Great example showing Aliens as a horror (and that was also scifi) sequel done right.
You get to build off the things that makes the xenomorph terrifying (chest burst, great hunter, etc) and now have a whole hive full of them after destroying a colony.
I love how the movie starts off making you feel secure with a warship full of well armed marines then it all goes to shit soo quickly you find yourself in a survival situation.
Great horror movie done right example.
The biggest part that took me out of the experience was two things.
#1 Going on an island with no guards or surveillance. You’re telling me that they didnt once think that it might be important to defend against people like the ones we saw on the dock only a couple miles a way? Its just so mind boggling how none of it is explained or given a reason.
#2 its basically the quiet place 1 told in a slightly different way.
Agree, the families living in the island seemed way too passive and secure there. In a world that has been hit with an alien invasion and is only survived by pockets of humans- many of which are violent, you’d think they’d have guard on lookout 24/7.. instead they are just chilling out like they are on vacation lol

I don't think so. It's always easy to look and critique how things are done (or not done) when you're just a observer. When you're an actual player, it can be easy to miss details or ideas no matter how obvious they should be. It happens in history many times.
Although, whether it should be considered a fault of the movie for not being logical is dependent on how and why it was written as such.

The whole thing is like some giant beach party that they stumble upon with endless supplies of beer and hot dogs around the fire. why hadn't a boatload of killers or aliens drifted there yet? Because our hero and heroine hadn't arrived yet to save the day, that's why. Such a dumb plot device. As if there aren't millions of islands around the globe that were safe from these things?!?!?!?!
8:43 Marlee Matlin won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for “Children of a Lesser God” in ‘86 or ‘87. I’m just going by recollection but I think it either won or was nominated for quite a few other awards as well. She was a fantastic deaf actress with an incredible range and shouldn’t be forgotten.
And she stole the Oscar from Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, one of the most iconic female roles in history for playing herself. Ironic

I enjoyed the opening scene that takes place when the aliens/monsters arrived on earth. I also really liked some of the cinematography and camera work. And I love the way that the aliens/monsters move around. Other than those things I felt like the sequel was pretty bland.
That was probably the only good scene in the movie.

While I did enjoy it somewhat, it felt incredibly boring and frustrating in some parts (the wife character basically guilt-tripping the guy into risking his life to save her deaf daughter just because even AFTER they come into his hideout and almost get him killed, like wtf) and also felt like they were just doing the first movie again.

Yeah it was so weird the way she demands this guy who’s already doing them a favor to do this for her. If anything, with the way her character had been established by this point she would have asked him to watch her son and baby and tracked down the daughter herself.
I think that scene could've been improved if instead of guilt tripping him if they had an argument of her going after her own kid and then an argument of who's going to stay and watch the baby.
11:45 You are saying that the end was pointless and one of your solutions is, that they could have shared their noise thingy with other people, which is a good point but the way I took it (and Wikipedia too), that was exactly what happened when they released that sound in the radio, so now the people just have to figure out what the sound does to the aliens and spread the knowledge (I think it would have been better if they showed some of that payoff but I wouldn't say the end was completely meaningless)
The ending was about the kids becoming braver survivors getting over fear, who could finally protect their mother & themselves ...

I think I’m gonna be in the minority here and say that I really liked and enjoyed the movie. This is a continuation of the story, a *Part 2* so a lot of this felt natural in my eyes.
It expanded upon the world and showed that people are surviving in what ways they can, some even thriving. There’s a glaring weakness of the creatures but that doesn’t take away from how dangerous they are. The movie gave me a very, “Last of Us” feeling with the atmosphere presented in it.
Very much I feel this movie was to represent that there is light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not the end when we work together. That’s just my opinion though
Yeah i kinda get what this guy is saying but i think what the movie is going for is sort of a “happy ending” where the protagonists are now finding other survivors and finding a way to finally end this situation that they’re in so having them exploit the weaknesses fairly easily kinda worked.

The first one was more a family drama disguised as a monster movie, and I thought the second one is gonna be just like that too so that's what I came back for.

It's ok to explore that, but can't just abandon all the little elements that made the first one so unique..the speaking, the walking, the running...like he said, they're having full blown conversations out in the open in this one.

When someone panicked and starting speaking aloud. They got drug underneath a garage door and slaughtered outside.

in the first movie the mother was so brave and resourceful and smart . in the second she was dumb and weak . they should have made her the main character
I think the mother seemed dumber in part 2 bc they focused more on the kids being brave and resourceful as they played more of the hero role this time around. Felt kind of like a passing of the torch so to speak from the parents to the children which I personally enjoyed.

I loved the first one, especially the bit where they bodied the kid. I was impressed the movie had the balls to murder a kid in cold blood IN THE INTRO. Absolutely brutal.
I gotta disagree with the idea that the new character was the issue here. He was more or less the only one with any actually good writing behind him, which makes it seem like he’s portrayed at the forefront, but in actuality the movie seems to push the deaf one being the lead even when it doesn’t make any sense. Her going out to find the island on her own is portrayed as this huge moment when it makes 0 sense for her to do anything on her own and it actively acts as if she’s right despite her even nearly getting herself killed. Even after the guy clearly saves her, the movie still has her act like he was in the wrong for not having come with her and wanting to get home despite the fact she did nothing to actually tell him where she was going or why, so he’d have no reason to. If anything it makes her basically the strongest person in the plot because it makes her look like she’s the only one with any presence of mind, so she ends up being the one to kill it after figuring out the viable method to deal with the monsters in the final scene
Edit: And as for the ending being exactly the same, while I agree it’s repetitive, the whole point of them going to the radio station was to spread that weapon, which is reinforced by the whole post credit scene being them leaving the hearing aid to be able to let anyone kill them off.
This film seems like a cross between the walking dead and mars attacks. The play the song from a radio tower to explode martian heads.

While I love these videos for pinpointing why some movies feel so unsatisfying or simply provide interesting filmmaking discussions, it’s the hilarious editing like at 4:40 that keeps me coming back.

The boy was used entirely as a plot device. The movie was like "things aren't happening, so let's make a character do something stupid just for the sake of 'action' ". I hated the kid in this movie because, all the development he made in the first movie by overcoming his fears was just totally negated and now he's back to square one.

Bruh that sudden end made me feel like I had just watched the same movie as part 1. It add nothing to the story.
You said something about the first one being a completely new concept but I feel they were inspired by bird box. Inspired in the best way where they then created their own story.
And they continued to use the creatures weakness till the creatures got used to it and adapted, meaning the family needed to find a new way to deal with them, while also bringing back that sense of dread. Like rat poison and New York Rats, they just adapt to the weakness and humans in turn have to adapt to that adaptation.
Unfortunately, the writers forgot about 2 things (probably): Habituation and Batteries. Won’t both the hearing aid and the radio eventually run out of battery? How did that radio recording room still have power if no one is running power plants? How does none of the creatures notice gunshots, specifically shotgun shots, in the distance, when they can hear a human child screaming in the distance or a toy from a distance? Why is no one using silencers on their guns to reduce the possibility of luring other creatures, or how has no one thought to use a crossbow on the creatures? They are quieter and you can re-use the arrows/bolts unless they break.
Does the deaf girl hear the radio using the hearing aid or is this similar to the time a blind guy uses binoculars in Bleach?
An interesting conflict for this would've been someone else finds out about the feedback weakness and attempts to steal the hearing aid/ girl
Taking a monster movie and turning into a "man is the scariest monster" movie, is not only cliche, but lazy.
