    TH-cam forced me to trim out the super funny intro because of bleeped swear words, at least for now. I'll try to get it back by editing around the bleeps when I can.
    e: should be back up now.

      TH-cam: We would like to announce Bleep is now offensive. In our quest to elimate all humor and love from the universe we've figured out another way to ruin people's fun for absolutely no reason. We hope you understand why we felt the need to censor ... censoring.

    I like the fact that Joel’s friends actually care about him, and like him, instead of wanting him gone. It was a nice touch seeing all the messages on the back of the map showing that they do in fact care about him.

      I've been a fan of his since the first episode of Teen Wolf, honestly. He just had a certain magnetism and relatable quirkiness. By the time season 3 rolled around, I knew he was going to do great things... His acting is fantastic! He's truly blossomed into a massive talent. I'm also super proud of him for persevering and continuing with his acting career after his near-death experience/injury on set of the third Maze Runner. I cannot imagine how traumatizing that would have been. 🤩❤️
      Yeah, yeah I know, I sound like some kind of "rabid fan-girl" lolol
      I'm not eerily obsessive I promise (haven't even watched all his movies/shows), I just have a lot of respect for his work and he seems like a genuinely good person.
      I gotta say, this movie was really impressive. I was worried that the 'monsters' weren't going to be done well or it would be excessively cheesy. It was super quaint and fun.

      @@despairwolf Hey, same here ! I've been fan of Dylan O'brien ever since i first saw in in Teen Wolf ! His acting's so good i just can't believe he's acting at all ; and as an actor, that's the absolute goal one should aim for.
      Anyway, I really hope he'll access to a wider range of characters to play in the future ; it's kind of a waste he's always stuck in playing the "good guy" in shows and movies aimed at teenagers and young adult ; i'm sure he's capable of a lot more !

That's about as wild as I'll get. I've never been one to get excessively flustered by celebrities. Realistically they're regular folks whose A) talent made them famous, B) family made them famous, C) luck made them famous, or D) genetics and/or surgery made them famous. I see celebrities as people like you and me. If I enjoy or respect a certain celeb I'll try to support them, but there's no high pitched squealing or frothing at the mouth here. ;) hahaha

It would have been so easy to make the bunker roommates uncaring and evil, but no they weren't, it was just that the main character didn't feel like he belonged there. Something else I feel was missed: Each monster encounter is distinct because it shows the character at different stages of growth. He becomes steadily more and more confident and sure of himself as the movie progresses: At the very beginning, he's so scared that he freezes up and nearly dies, and spends the next couple of fights relying on others for protection. Then by the time he's on his own and has to fight the centipede, he's still not quite sure of himself, but manages to overcome his anxiety and kill the creature. Then finally, by the time he's fighting the crab, he's lost all hesitation and become self-realized
    The show is _also_ a master class in how to create a nice, even character progression

    7:15 You know.. not enough writers are taught the lessons of the Labors of Hercules these days, because there you have basically a guy strong like the Hulk, getting tasks before him, in which all his strength is meaningless. And if even the ancient greek writers knew that this is how you tell a good story. You can have an amazingly strong character, but then you need to give them obstacles that cannot be solved by their strength.

    • @diersteinjulien6773
      @diersteinjulien6773 4 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      I disagree, for a lot of his labors, Hercules's strength was a key aspect of accomplishing them. But, and there we agree, strength alone was never enough, he always needed to use his knowledge and wisdom too.
      Hercules's Labors lesson is that, because a character is the strongest, doesn't mean that he should brute-force his way until it works.

    • @IshanDeston
      @IshanDeston 4 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      @@diersteinjulien6773 All the Labors were designed that they couldn't be solved with strength alone.
      For example the Nemean Lions skin being impenetrable was negating Hercules strength for the majority of that story.
      And only after Hercules Wits help him to realize that he needs to kill it without breaking its skin, does he figure out a way to go about it, without breaking its skin.
      The lions pelt negated Hercules Power for the majority of that story. Only in the end Hercules figures out how he can apply his assets to solve the task.
      And the other tasks are similar. He gets a task in which his strengths are an asset, but not the solution, and he has to figure out how to work around the issue that negates his assets in the first place.

    I had to stop after 5 min into this review, and I am glad I did. I had to see the movie myself first because it sounded so good. And it is! The movie is exquisite. Even though not every single idea explored in the movie is original, those ideas put together made for an original movie. A fresh breath indeed. Your analysis, as always, are on point. Thank you for telling me about this movie.

    Dutch in Predator is an example of a hero who, despite being strong and capable, is still unprepared to face the monster. So you're right, the monster has either to complement the character's weaknesses or to beat them at their own strenghts, forcing them to get resourceful
