As soon as I saw barbara, trying to gather her papers from the ground and being blatantly ignored by the other people in the office, I thought "yeah this is gonna be the villain" it's a rough movie
I don't think this is a problem lmao matter of fact I think its a good starting setup. Its nothing special we haven't seen before but its a popular writing technique that even Filmento has covered before called "Kicking the dog". The problems are way beyond a scene like this.
At first I thought this movie was made for little girls only just like "My Little Pony" or something.I was about to give up when the movie got a little better but very little. I just watched JL snyder cut and I have several epic moments in my mind. In this movie tho there are none. WW1 was better.

They wasted the 80s setting despite it being in the title. Like they showed the mall at the beginning and then what? What else made me feel like I was in the 80s? Nothing
I hated that the golden armor was meaningless. The god-tier armor being destroyed could have worked because we have the exact same beat in Avengers Endgame. Cap gets Mjolnir and we think is the best thing ever to fight Thanos, until Thanos overpowers Cap, destroys the shield, breaks Cap's arm and now Cap is facing death and despair in like 2 minutes after he finally was able to wiled Mjolnir. That beat worked amazingly, but in WW84 it feels hollow. The armor is just disappointing. I think it is because we never see Wonder Woman using the armor before and we have only seen it in posters everywhere. In endgame it worked because the ad campaign hid the moment, so it was a welcome surprise. In WW84 all the ad campaign has been about the stupid armor, so it feels like a waste.
I love how he completely glosses over the fact that "Steve" is actually another man whose body Steve is using without consent, and that Diana does the bone dance with him. Nothing wrong or creepy about that, right?
Lucklaran she doesn't see the other man whe she looks at him she sees Steve. Also, the theme is basically that the power of the stone corrupts. That's why Wonder Woman had to eventually give up the wish that she made. The hardest thing in the world has got to be getting your greatest wish granted and having to willingly give it up. Its a great theme, you guys are just too nooby to get it.

I think you are underestimating the impact of sight on psyche if you think his appearance changing to her doesn't alter her perspective. Also, whether it is wrong or not is not the point, obviously it is wrong. The moral of the story is how exactly that, that even a good and noble person can be manipulated/corrupted when you know theit deepest desires and use that to your advantage. Wonder Woman was no different, but you know what, it didn't last, she was able to eventually overcome the stone's wishes and have the strength to give up the thing she wanted most, and not only that but she was able to inspire the rest of the world to do the same.

This movie is like when Zack Snyder had nothing to do with it. The ''real fans'', ''the critics'' and the ''real journalists'' demanded it and now we all have to live with this mess. Compared to the first Wonder Woman (when Zack had something to do with it) WW84 is garbage.
Let's set up the golden suit that we've been waiting to see for an extra year as one that can withstand an assault by the armies of the world, then only show it for ten minutes where it's ripped apart easily by a cat lady.
Why is everyone so mad at cheetah? She IS a cat lady. Always has been. It's not some stupid thing the movie made up. If people have no problem accepting cheetah as WW's nemesis in the comics, then why is it so hard to digest in the movie? Also, the armour was set up to be this super strong thing and yet got torn apart by cheetah, BECAUSE SHE'S WW's main nemesis. She is supposed to be formidable. That's the point. As an aviation enthusiast, there were several problems with Chris pine and gal gadot flying in the jet. 1. The plane would have no fuel 2. THERE IS NO WAY THAT A WW1 PILOT COULD FLY A 5th GENERATION JET 3. They would have no oxygen masks 4. Making the object invisible would not hide it from radar Btw the plane is an F111 aardvark

JL in the first place mess up everything. It's like watching Avengers even before Ironman 1. So i think WW1 Aquaman and Shazam will reset the timeline.
Also, Diana goes on to say how this amazonian suit is so important for her, her culture and history, yet she goes on and destroys it and reacts as if it was nothing of importance.

I was also confused over her losing her powers. They claimed that it was the payment for her wish, but for a while I thought it was because Barbara's wish was siphoning it from her.
This! I love Filmento and I always go to his videos after a movie to see his analysis and try to see if my praises and complaints can be put into words well. I did not feel like this video hit anything on the head though. The problem in my opinion with this film is not its so fun and wastes time. The characters has no emotional weight to them for us. Diana was off in this movie,selfish and unrelatable. We KNOW Steve is not Steve hence we also do not care. Even Minerva;at first her character is spot on for us to care until the wish then we don't become emotionally attached anymore because it seems her characters has taken a cartoony route and starts shoving her development down a hole. Max Lord and his son is the most developed and emotionally challenging part of the movie and hence I did not "feel" anything in this movie until the last few scenes where his son situation actually tears my eyes up. We relate to this more than anybody else. That is the problem. Not "fun". Movies can be fun and still make the audience care.
If the invisibility allows the radar waves to pass through just like it is does the light, then it would make the aircraft stealth. And worth noting that, for the Amazon island to be hidden in a post WW2 age, when things like navigational radars exist, it would indeed have to work on radar.
This is basically the original Superman movies and the MCU in a nutshell, the stories (even though they usually are not bad) are spoon fed to the audience leaving little to no room for the audience to think or piece everything together. It’s for this exact reason why I don’t watch many superhero movies because for the most part they are made for a child’s brain.
Exactly the same thing spiderman movies suffer from. Spidey took out both Falcon and Bucky and was able to outmatch them to a certain degree but in his movies, he struggles against a guy who is nothing without his vulture suit.

I like that movie, don't get me wrong. But at some points, fun went overboard. (I remember the moment that Asgard was destroyed and Korg spoke about foundation, and then the foundation was gone. That joke was jarring. (I did let air out of my nose for the joke in the movie, but it still felt off) Also, I think the fun was too much on Loki's expense, for Loki's actions to still be realistic at the end.
No, it was also too much, you'll enjoy it on big screen when watching it first time and it goes along with crowd's cheering but when you sit again to watch it on TV or PC, you can clearly feel that *too much fun* problem becomes apparent and you start to feel bored at some serious scenes which are supposed to be intense & and some scenes are not funny anymore, you can say it doesn't age well (at least for me)
@@Sirrajj different strokes for different folks I suppose, I’ve seen the movie once in theaters and at least twice outside of theaters while enjoying the film. Due to the nature of comedy the movie is the most enjoyable the first time because you haven’t heard the jokes before. I don’t think the movie was too much fun because the movie has that fun while exploring the characters and settings without detracting from the character relationships and narrative as a whole.
It's legitimately shocking to see such a massive dip in quality from a first film to a sequel, especially considering that there seemed to be no major studio meddling involved, drama among the cast, last-minute rewrites, sudden change in director, or anything else to suggest that THIS was EXACTLY the movie they had INTENDED to make. This is their vision. They had more than enough time, ample money, studio support, and they did this ON PURPOSE. Let that sink in.

Why is it "Progressive" in modern Hollywood to say "Women need to be given a bunch of unearned power"? This, Mulan, good ol' Karen Marvel... Thor has unearned power, is a cocky asshole, he gets smacked down by Odin, forced to learn some humility and grow as a person. If Thor had been a woman, that movie probably would have ended with her killing Odin for daring suggest she isn't inherently worthy by her birthright.

6:00 OMG YES! I feel like with every DC movie I have to start a timer to track how long it takes for the movie to start. I had this one clocked around 38 minutes and the first like 10-20 minutes where she does that challenge holds zero relevance to the movie. It should have been removed.

I'd seen this happen before in a B movie called "Highway to Hell." There's a big chase scene, and suddenly a piece from the soundtrack to the 1988 movie MIRACLE MILE (Anthony Edwards movie, go see it) plays there. I was startled when I heard it.

I only want to say for the convoy scene of "why would the convoy run them over?" In various parts of the world, it was known by militias and warlords that convoys would stop for varying reasons - suspected IEDs, people on the road, stopped vehicles, etc, letting the convoy then be attacked and taken. Eventually they realised that using children as road blocks also worked. So the unofficial orders came through that if you want to stay alive, you do not stop your vehicle for ANY reason.
I desperately hope that's not true, not only because it is more monstrous than most supervillains would dream, but also because it is so very stupid. Children aren't like squirrels, you can't just run them over and keep going. Hitting them would also stop your convoy. This sounds like Private News Network exclusive, otherwise known as an unsubstantiated rumor.

I'm all for show don't tell, but I think that was just a simple dialogue choice. Immediately after that, you can see how funny Barbara is and that DIana genuinely enjoys her company and thinks she's fun. They do still show it to some degree.

Didn't think of that, but it seems very true. They completely misread the tone balance of TR - it's a dark story with a surprisingly fierce critique of post-colonial states buried under it which gives it stakes and meaning, but the characters themselves are fun and exciting even when they're having a bad time so you get to laugh at the dialogue and banter, and it synthesises so the darker turns hit all the harder for the contrast.

my 4yo loves this movie, wants to see it over and over again. also loves baby shark as much as half of the Billboard Top 10 Pop songs. that just about says everything about the mental effort needed for mass mainstream productions these days
First Olympics scene was supposed to set up the theme of "shortcuts will ruin your success", which is completely in line with the "use a wish as a shortcut to your success, but it will cost you" thing Max Lord had while he was giving out wishes like candy. ...then they through this concept out the window when everybody else got punished for making wishes except Max Lord who had the happiest ending reuniting with his son. He also ended up in perfect health and wasn't even a wanted criminal, he didn't even get a slap on the wrist. The writing was real bad. Wonder Woman can fly & turn things invisible as new powers she pulled out of nowhere. Then after it's established she can fly, she uses the badass golden winged armor, which is useless except for blocking a few hits. The grand climax of the m pi vie is just "undo your wish" and it feels like a let down, something you'd see in a cartoon. The action was also way worse than the first film. Turns out the writing & action if first film were don by Zack Snyder's crew, and without them on the second film we see Patty Jenkins true worth as writer/director, and it's the Thor 2 level of quality she did before
Not to mention: "I wish my parents weren't dead" or "I wish my kid wasn't dying of Lukemia" aren't "Shortcuts" or "cheating". And if everyone gets a wish, those 2 are going to be Super common. And then some woman says "Hey give your son cancer again please." And everyone just says "OK, yeah, sure!" Apparently.

In a few articles, it also puts emphasis that Jenkins wouldn't have to worry about this failure affecting her if she were a man. 🙄😒
I feel like Shazam is the perfect example for a fun movie that's more than just fun. The movie was marketed as nothing more than jokes and shazam acting silly but ended up with some deep themes and tense moments

Another thing that comes into conflict with the “we want fun” idea is that very wrong things are being toted as either positives or neutrals. There’s some stuff with the wishes and how they handle that, but the big one is that Steve for some random reason takes over the body of some random person. Like seriously this makes zero sense, and doesn’t change anything in the plot. Hell it would have made more sense with the “we want fun” tone if he just came back fully with his own body. Yet here we are with a very dark concept being thrown around as a positive or non issue for the entire movie.
Not to mention the very often pointed out plot hole that many people in the world are genuinely suffering and would have wished for that to be alleviated. Starving person? Terminal disease person? Blind guy? Yah... alla you give up your wishes because you're selfish and terrible! The movie can't mention ANY of these people because it wouldn't be fun and would really drag down the moral they were trying to have in the end with real sacrifice.

How was she supposed to revoke her wish. I know she was brought back, but I don't recall her revoking her wish.
I think a good concept could be the wishes not being actually 'true' and they messes with somebody else like diana wish did (but she should not knew steve was in somebody body in first place, she sees him and hear him etc, but its another guy possessed by him, only after she should discovers its another guy body which could have impacted her harder). So every wish should follow same logic, example: Barbara wish would take diana strenght, powers, confidence etc. If you wish for someone dont starve, somebody else would starve cause you would get its food, if you wish to be cured, your disease goes to another person etc. This would work better as the "shortcut" vs "work hard", "egoism" vs "heroism" and "lies" vs "truth" messages the movie was going for.

I’ve always felt that the fun in this movie does actually serve a purpose beyond just being fun. The movie is a lot of Diana having fun because she finally has what she wants: she’s back with Steve. But over time, the movie’s fun starts to sour. Eventually she realizes that she needs to give up all of that fun and at that point the movie changes. The fun was there to get us into the headspace of Diana so that we would feel the loss when she lost Steve.

The most disruptive "fun" element was max lord being an absolute caricature of an evil villain. His motives were all over the place because he needed to be "evil"
He was understandable to such a degree that he could have been the main character of a decent, if fairly unoriginal, comedy drama with fantasy elements, a la Liar Liar, where he learns to connect more with his son. Then suddenly he changes just... Because they needed a villain.
Hell even in real life, one dimensional villains have more complicated motivations, take Jordan Belford inspite of his motives being 1 dimensional the way he came to that conclusion is because the world rewards greed and excess. He was placed in a very low paying job so why be honest just con people.
I agree the movie is bad and the prologue is awful. But it’s not about lying, it’s about taking shortcuts to succeed. And that plays a role in the arc of the movie.

Another example is the white villain had a Indian kid for some. They don't explain it because they want you to be the bad guy if you wonder why. I saw a commercial the other day where the mom was a white blond, the dad was black, and the kid was Asian. Was that really better then just a black family, or white family, or Asian family?

17:30 approximately when he talks about making you think of another movie I’m sure if you did watch that movie it was distracting, but who the hell said that everyone who watched Wonder Woman 1984 watched that movie? I certainly have never heard of that movie. The music actually worked really well for me in that moment, and Diana who has just lost Steve is able to connect with him even after his second “death” (he’s technically already dead so is it a death?). I thought that it was the best moment in the entire film.
This is how I re imagine the ending. I think it would have been better if the final fight was in the white house. With Diana going to stop Maxwell who is broadcasting his speech, and before entering Barbara (still as a human) stops her and they start to fight. Slowly through it, both of them notice that they are getting weaker and weaker, only for Diana to say that Barbara asked to be as strong as her, and now that she is losing her powers so does she. So we have a terrified Barbara thinking that she went back to being nothing, only to pick up a gun in a last effort to kill Diana only for her to take her out using martial arts, claiming that she didn't cheat her way though. After that they go for Maxwell, give the speech, and reveal that the thing he loves the most is his son, and so he is slowly dying. Seeing this, Maxwell kills himself, exchanging his life for his son. With Maxwell dead, every single wish is cancelled. Trevor kisses Diana, he gets out and then we hear the other dude asking where he is. While all this is happening, we cut and see that the russians prepared nuclear missiles to be launch, but because the americans one got destroyed since they were part of a wish, some general quickly rushes to stop the launching only to see that a singular missile is already on it's way. The other ones were stop but that one is heading it's way to the white house. Someone enters and tells the president what is happening, Diana learns to fly and stops the missile, wrestling with it and thowing it to space. The end. pd: After the fight, we can have Barbara going back to her workplace and have the camera show a little Cheetah statue, indicating that this is not the last of her.
Damn that would make a lot more sense. I was quite bothered by how the wish thing got reversed. It is so stupid to assume, that everybody would reverse their wish. Max dying would be the only plausible way, but that would go against the tone of the movie.
It dosnt make sense, it's undervalue everything that comes before this movie, daina was hidden for years untill Bruce found her again and she decided to fight with Batman and superman. Them fighting in whitehouse while the whole worlds knows the existance of ww before BVS is just making it more inconsistent. DC is going inconsistent just for the sake of having fun. Atleast marvel outgrew itself and learned to be consistent throughout it's universe

Yeah, but if the "fun" factor has no further meaning it gets boring. it doesn't mean that every single joke has to advance the plot or give us more info about the characters, but you can make the "training montage" fun so that you can at least make it more interesting, like Shazam. If you have watched more videos from filmento, you will realize that one of the main issues with big movies is the lack of direction, where things happen "because". If you want another guy excellent at pointing these things out you can watch pitch meeting, he is great a pointing out the "because" moments in films
@@ponygon777 At least in Shazam it was somewhat justified since the main characters were kids and a teen so it makes sense for it to be more lighthearded. But seriously, no need to make a single joke in "serious" movies, if the audience can't stand the tension there are other solutions. Anything that makes it feel like there's hope: small victories, romance, a helpful clue, a break from all the terrible stuff that's happening, etc. should be enough wether that hope is real or not.
I feel like the film is easily summed up in the scene where Diana suddenly can turn things inivisble: "what? why? how?" "well....cos it's fun and the plot needs it (well...not really...but fun)"

The worst part about Barabra's arc is how she goes from feminist to problematic. Like her arc completely flips. The first half of the movie centers around her demonstrating her intelligence, developing independence / confidence, developing strength (and emasculating men in the gym), and beating up the man who sexually harassed her. Then she suddenly starts serving as the bodyguard for Maxwell Lord, the man who sexually manipulated her for the wishing stone, because all of her strength is dependent on him. Bad! Apex predator to sidekick bodyguard. Taking down mysoginistic asshat to serving one. Gaining independence to being dependent on a man for everything she developed during the movie. This movie had some interesting setups, concepts, and themes. But my God did they somehow make a disjointed mess of a film.

The way they framed the lunch date with Diana and Barbara was super odd too. It came right after Diana was lamenting that she couldn't move on from Steve and connect with anyone else… then we see her having a great time connecting with Barbara, probably the first person she's gone out with in ages. It honestly seemed like they were setting up the two of them to get together. Which would be fine, except it goes nowhere after that, so I guess the romantic framing was an accident?
aside from me constantly mentioning the rape, since it's important, I just realized that this movie does the 'toxic male' theme pretty poorly. One can argue it's because it's DC and DC = fun = superficial real world issues but if you watch movies like Promising Young Woman or Never Rarely Sometimes Always, those movies do the toxic male theme excellently. Kind of like how Joker 2069 doesn't do King Taxi Comedy very well.
the "that's just a trash can" bit was executed extremely well by Captain Kirk not gonna lie, but the joke required a decent journey around it in order to land to its fullest potential

I love how the golden armer was amped up to be god tier and it as destroyed in 3 minutes
they just want to sell toys with the gold armor. Because everyone already had the wonder woman doll.
I hated that the golden armor was meaningless. The god-tier armor being destroyed could have worked because we have the exact same beat in Avengers Endgame. Cap gets Mjolnir and we think is the best thing ever to fight Thanos, until Thanos overpowers Cap, destroys the shield, breaks Cap's arm and now Cap is facing death and despair in like 2 minutes after he finally was able to wiled Mjolnir. That beat worked amazingly, but in WW84 it feels hollow. The armor is just disappointing. I think it is because we never see Wonder Woman using the armor before and we have only seen it in posters everywhere. In endgame it worked because the ad campaign hid the moment, so it was a welcome surprise. In WW84 all the ad campaign has been about the stupid armor, so it feels like a waste.

I think you are underestimating the impact of sight on psyche if you think his appearance changing to her doesn't alter her perspective.

The moral of the story is how exactly that, that even a good and noble person can be manipulated/corrupted when you know theit deepest desires and use that to your advantage.
Wonder Woman was no different, but you know what, it didn't last, she was able to eventually overcome the stone's wishes and have the strength to give up the thing she wanted most, and not only that but she was able to inspire the rest of the world to do the same.

Because it's armor and she was going up against someone who was just as powerful as she is.

This! I love Filmento and I always go to his videos after a movie to see his analysis and try to see if my praises and complaints can be put into words well. I did not feel like this video hit anything on the head though. The problem in my opinion with this film is not its so fun and wastes time. The characters has no emotional weight to them for us. Diana was off in this movie,selfish and unrelatable. We KNOW Steve is not Steve hence we also do not care. Even Minerva;at first her character is spot on for us to care until the wish then we don't become emotionally attached anymore because it seems her characters has taken a cartoony route and starts shoving her development down a hole. Max Lord and his son is the most developed and emotionally challenging part of the movie and hence I did not "feel" anything in this movie until the last few scenes where his son situation actually tears my eyes up. We relate to this more than anybody else. That is the problem. Not "fun". Movies can be fun and still make the audience care.

This is basically the original Superman movies and the MCU in a nutshell, the stories (even though they usually are not bad) are spoon fed to the audience leaving little to no room for the audience to think or piece everything together. Thor Ragnarök is a good example of a "fun" movie that isn't only fun.
I like that movie, don't get me wrong. But at some points, fun went overboard. (I remember the moment that Asgard was destroyed and Korg spoke about foundation, and then the foundation was gone. That joke was jarring. (I did let air out of my nose for the joke in the movie, but it still felt off)
Also, I think the fun was too much on Loki's expense, for Loki's actions to still be realistic at the end.
Still my favorite MCU. It was such a rollercoaster of emotions.
No, it was also too much, you'll enjoy it on big screen when watching it first time and it goes along with crowd's cheering but when you sit again to watch it on TV or PC, you can clearly feel that *too much fun* problem becomes apparent and you start to feel bored at some serious scenes which are supposed to be intense & and some scenes are not funny anymore, you can say it doesn't age well (at least for me)

Due to the nature of comedy the movie is the most enjoyable the first time because you haven’t heard the jokes before. I don’t think the movie was too much fun because the movie has that fun while exploring the characters and settings without detracting from the character relationships and narrative as a whole.

It's legitimately shocking to see such a massive dip in quality from a first film to a sequel, especially considering that there seemed to be no major studio meddling involved, drama among the cast, last-minute rewrites, sudden change in director, or anything else to suggest that THIS was EXACTLY the movie they had INTENDED to make. This is their vision. They had more than enough time, ample money, studio support, and they did this ON PURPOSE. Let that sink in.

Children aren't like squirrels, you can't just run them over and keep going. Hitting them would also stop your convoy. I'm all for show don't tell, but I think that was just a simple dialogue choice. Immediately after that, you can see how funny Barbara is and that DIana genuinely enjoys her company and thinks she's fun. They do still show it to some degree.

Didn't think of that, but it seems very true. They completely misread the tone balance of TR - it's a dark story with a surprisingly fierce critique of post-colonial states buried under it which gives it stakes and meaning, but the characters themselves are fun and exciting even when they're having a bad time so you get to laugh at the dialogue and banter, and it synthesises so the darker turns hit all the harder for the contrast.

First Olympics scene was supposed to set up the theme of "shortcuts will ruin your success", which is completely in line with the "use a wish as a shortcut to your success, but it will cost you" thing Max Lord had while he was giving out wishes like candy.
...then they through this concept out the window when everybody else got punished for making wishes except Max Lord who had the happiest ending reuniting with his son. He also ended up in perfect health and wasn't even a wanted criminal, he didn't even get a slap on the wrist.
The writing was real bad. Wonder Woman can fly & turn things invisible as new powers she pulled out of nowhere. Then after it's established she can fly, she uses the badass golden winged armor, which is useless except for blocking a few hits. The grand climax of the m pi vie is just "undo your wish" and it feels like a let down, something you'd see in a cartoon.
The action was also way worse than the first film.
Turns out the writing & action if first film were don by Zack Snyder's crew, and without them on the second film we see Patty Jenkins true worth as writer/director, and it's the Thor 2 level of quality she did before

Another thing that comes into conflict with the “we want fun” idea is that very wrong things are being toted as either positives or neutrals. There’s some stuff with the wishes and how they handle that, but the big one is that Steve for some random reason takes over the body of some random person. Like seriously this makes zero sense, and doesn’t change anything in the plot. Hell it would have made more sense with the “we want fun” tone if he just came back fully with his own body. Yet here we are with a very dark concept being thrown around as a positive or non issue for the entire movie.
Not to mention the very often pointed out plot hole that many people in the world are genuinely suffering and would have wished for that to be alleviated. Starving person? Terminal disease person? Blind guy? Yah... alla you give up your wishes because you're selfish and terrible! The movie can't mention ANY of these people because it wouldn't be fun and would really drag down the moral they were trying to have in the end with real sacrifice.

What about the people who made a wish and then were killed by another wish. That lady who wished for all the (Irish I think) people to be kicked out, literally died. How was she supposed to revoke her wish. I know she was brought back, but I don't recall her revoking her wish.
I think a good concept could be the wishes not being actually 'true' and they messes with somebody else like diana wish did (but she should not knew steve was in somebody body in first place, she sees him and hear him etc, but its another guy possessed by him, only after she should discovers its another guy body which could have impacted her harder). So every wish should follow same logic, example: Barbara wish would take diana strenght, powers, confidence etc. If you wish for someone dont starve, somebody else would starve cause you would get its food, if you wish to be cured, your disease goes to another person etc. This would work better as the "shortcut" vs "work hard", "egoism" vs "heroism" and "lies" vs "truth" messages the movie was going for.

I’ve always felt that the fun in this movie does actually serve a purpose beyond just being fun. The movie is a lot of Diana having fun because she finally has what she wants: she’s back with Steve. But over time, the movie’s fun starts to sour. Eventually she realizes that she needs to give up all of that fun and at that point the movie changes. The fun was there to get us into the headspace of Diana so that we would feel the loss when she lost Steve.
The way you brighten up and oversaturate your thumbnails just makes the CGI on Cheetah look even worse XD

The most disruptive "fun" element was max lord being an absolute caricature of an evil villain. His motives were all over the place because he needed to be "evil"
He was understandable to such a degree that he could have been the main character of a decent, if fairly unoriginal, comedy drama with fantasy elements, a la Liar Liar, where he learns to connect more with his son. Then suddenly he changes just... Because they needed a villain.
Hell even in real life, one dimensional villains have more complicated motivations, take Jordan Belford inspite of his motives being 1 dimensional the way he came to that conclusion is because the world rewards greed and excess.
He was placed in a very low paying job so why be honest just con people.
I agree the movie is bad and the prologue is awful. But it’s not about lying, it’s about taking shortcuts to succeed. And that plays a role in the arc of the movie.
The director of this movie tried to take shortcuts for it to succeed.
But, shortcuts are great as long as the products does not suffer.

It was, we need an unattractive little black girl to show equality and diversity through... unattractive kid smiles while being saved? It should feel wrong to everyone. The fact is, we like our movies to feature people that look better then us, even when it is a kid being saved, unless the point is, this person is ugly because that is the point, as with the mall robbers, and here is what your brain really realized in this scene. SJW decisions are going to ruin this film on a level that you never saw in films ever until the last five years. They might as well had Kristen Wigs character start off uber attractive, and then become a fatty, and then every man loved her for her inner beauty!
Another example is the white villain had a Indian kid for some. They don't explain it because they want you to be the bad guy if you wonder why. I saw a commercial the other day where the mom was a white blond, the dad was black, and the kid was Asian. Was that really better then just a black family, or white family, or Asian family?

I’m sure if you did watch that movie it was distracting, but who the hell said that everyone who watched Wonder Woman 1984 watched that movie? I certainly have never heard of that movie. The music actually worked really well for me in that moment, and Diana who has just lost Steve is able to connect with him even after his second “death” (he’s technically already dead so is it a death?). I thought that it was the best moment in the entire film.

This is how I re imagine the ending. I think it would have been better if the final fight was in the white house. With Diana going to stop Maxwell who is broadcasting his speech, and before entering Barbara (still as a human) stops her and they start to fight. Slowly through it, both of them notice that they are getting weaker and weaker, only for Diana to say that Barbara asked to be as strong as her, and now that she is losing her powers so does she. So we have a terrified Barbara thinking that she went back to being nothing, only to pick up a gun in a last effort to kill Diana only for her to take her out using martial arts, claiming that she didn't cheat her way though.
After that they go for Maxwell, give the speech, and reveal that the thing he loves the most is his son, and so he is slowly dying. Seeing this, Maxwell kills himself, exchanging his life for his son. With Maxwell dead, every single wish is cancelled. Trevor kisses Diana, he gets out and then we hear the other dude asking where he is.
While all this is happening, we cut and see that the russians prepared nuclear missiles to be launch, but because the americans one got destroyed since they were part of a wish, some general quickly rushes to stop the launching only to see that a singular missile is already on it's way. The other ones were stop but that one is heading it's way to the white house.
Someone enters and tells the president what is happening, Diana learns to fly and stops the missile, wrestling with it and thowing it to space. The end.
pd: After the fight, we can have Barbara going back to her workplace and have the camera show a little Cheetah statue, indicating that this is not the last of her.
Damn that would make a lot more sense. I was quite bothered by how the wish thing got reversed. It is so stupid to assume, that everybody would reverse their wish. Max dying would be the only plausible way, but that would go against the tone of the movie.

Yeah, but if the "fun" factor has no further meaning it gets boring. it doesn't mean that every single joke has to advance the plot or give us more info about the characters, but you can make the "training montage" fun so that you can at least make it more interesting, like Shazam. If you have watched more videos from filmento, you will realize that one of the main issues with big movies is the lack of direction, where things happen "because". If you want another guy excellent at pointing these things out you can watch pitch meeting, he is great a pointing out the "because" moments in films
@@ponygon777 At least in Shazam it was somewhat justified since the main characters were kids and a teen so it makes sense for it to be more lighthearded. But seriously, no need to make a single joke in "serious" movies, if the audience can't stand the tension there are other solutions. Anything that makes it feel like there's hope: small victories, romance, a helpful clue, a break from all the terrible stuff that's happening, etc. should be enough wether that hope is real or not.
Just because one is bad doesn't mean the other is good.
I feel like the film is easily summed up in the scene where Diana suddenly can turn things inivisble: "what? why? how?" "well....cos it's fun and the plot needs it (well...not really...but fun)"

The worst part about Barabra's arc is how she goes from feminist to problematic. Like her arc completely flips. The first half of the movie centers around her demonstrating her intelligence, developing independence / confidence, developing strength (and emasculating men in the gym), and beating up the man who sexually harassed her. Then she suddenly starts serving as the bodyguard for Maxwell Lord, the man who sexually manipulated her for the wishing stone, because all of her strength is dependent on him. Bad!
Apex predator to sidekick bodyguard. Taking down mysoginistic asshat to serving one. Gaining independence to being dependent on a man for everything she developed during the movie. This movie had some interesting setups, concepts, and themes. But my God did they somehow make a disjointed mess of a film.

I was wondering why her mother let her take part in the contest when she had not even let her start training if I remember right from the first movie. She seems even younger there than when she started training in the first movie...
She isn't younger. It's the same actress, 3 years older. And apparently, she did most of her stunts by herself.

The way they framed the lunch date with Diana and Barbara was super odd too. It came right after Diana was lamenting that she couldn't move on from Steve and connect with anyone else… then we see her having a great time connecting with Barbara, probably the first person she's gone out with in ages. It honestly seemed like they were setting up the two of them to get together. Which would be fine, except it goes nowhere after that, so I guess the romantic framing was an accident?
My favorite part of this film was the Cameo of Kristen Wig. We haven't seen her play herself in a while.
Patty Jenkins arrived just in time to film WW. And she was involved since pre-production in WW84. That's why they are so different.
I think we needed Zack Snyder after all. Even if he sucks at writting, his ideas, themes and casting were always great

aside from me constantly mentioning the rape, since it's important, I just realized that this movie does the 'toxic male' theme pretty poorly. One can argue it's because it's DC and DC = fun = superficial real world issues
but if you watch movies like Promising Young Woman or Never Rarely Sometimes Always, those movies do the toxic male theme excellently. Kind of like how Joker 2069 doesn't do King Taxi Comedy very well.
WW84 was a poor attempt to recreate Thor Ragnarok, literally why it exists in the first place.
the "that's just a trash can" bit was executed extremely well by Captain Kirk not gonna lie, but the joke required a decent journey around it in order to land to its fullest potential
