Just the sound of Johnny's voice brings an incredible feeling of peace and comfort. If I close my eyes it brings me home to my mom and dad and the feeling of being loved and protected. Our country has changed and not for the better. TV is a total bore. We will never see times like this again! Missing you John and Ed and all the classic entertainers!

Johnny was the best. He introduced us to new comedians, had on jazz and opera greats, plus all of the great animal spots with Joan Embry. I was exposed to so many different facets of culture. I didn't realize what was happening at the time but now I realize how great that was. 40 years later and I still find this hilarious. I had a crush on Joan Embry.

The intrinsic quality about Carson, was he ALWAYS made it about the guests, he was to draw them out,
then their answers would get that LOOK he would show the audience and the camera. That wonderful look, which read to me, "see what I put up with ?" The best host ever.

I especially enjoyed the egg and cream clip with Dom Deluise and Burt Reynolds! Do you think even Jimmy Fallon would be willing to commit such a sartorial sacrifice for the sake of spontaneous hilarity? As Benny Hill might've said: "Not bloody likely!"

Johnny was so quick in his wit, plus his timing was flawless.
    He always made his guest
feel at ease, he was never
    was rude to them.
    He was a great interviewer.
His monologues were based on current affairs, but he never
used his show as a political agenda.
    His job was to entertain,
    not in making political statements.
    The big band was awesome.
    They don’t make talk shows
    like that anymore.

As far as I'm concerned, "The Tonight Show" ended May 22, 1992. If NBC wanted to continue having a program in the 11:30 time slot, they would have been better off using a different title. For instance, with regard to the jerk in that time slot nowadays, NBC could have called it "The Arrogant Show with Jimmy Fallon". Of course, I realize that such a title wouldn't sell advertising air time; but, at least, it would have been an accurate description of the host.

    • @jp0308
      @jp0308 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Letterman couldn't come close to Carson by a long shot! Letterman's bitterness due to his losing to Jay Leno for being the premier top late night talk show host was quite apparent in his bitter sardonic humor and stage persona indicative of a sore loser! Leno tops Letterman in many aspects... why do you think Leno got the job??!!

After the show moved to Los Angeles, NBC in New York got rid of all the tapes. Amazingly stupid, even for a television network who aired some of the shows Johnny mentions in the desk piece. Carson only found out when they were doing an early anniversary show and NY informed them that they didn't have them. So,about 10 years of Tonight is gone.😢

The part with Bob Hope and Dean Martin and George Gooble was really crazy. Johnny was surprise when he went to introduce George and Dean walked out. George gave some his time to Dean. Dean was himself. To answer Johnny question " at what time he lost control of the show". The answer was when Dean 1st walked out. You can fine the whole piece on TH-cam. Check it out it a must see.
