Block B has 3 rappers: Zico (widely known as best idol rapper), P.O. (deep voice rapper...damn I love his voice. Also, major dork), Park Kyung (who fun fact is a MENSA member also is short and always smiling). The vocalists are Taeil (bat neck tattoo with angelic voice also short), U-Kwon (sweet voice, obsessed with dogs), Jaehyo (lower tone vocalist who is obsessed with fishing), and B-Bomb (another idol whose real name is Lee Minhyuk thus a stage name, underrated vocals). Nillini Mambo is not my favorite song but that video cracks me up every time. Block B has a ton of great songs and their range is insane. I'd highly recommend "Toy," "Shall We Dance," "Don't Leave," and "Yesterday."

Fun fact. The reason why the After School girls were covered in temporary tattoos in this video is because they covered up all the bruises they sustained from the pole dancing.

    WAAAAAAAAAIT! Nillilli Mambo? I'm IN.
It always reminds me of a Guy Ritchie aesthetic. And yes, they're pretty much crazy goofballs and unserious. I would love your thoughts on Toy.
    Great to see you back.

The director of Rolling Quartz’ music video is connected to the director of Dreamcatcher’s music video. Rolling Quartz’ director works in the same company, where Dreamcatcher’s director is CEO. The two directors apparently talked a lot about the music video.

To this day First Love is one of my favorite kpop songs. I think people tend to either be dismissive or get distracted (when it's accompanied by visuals) when it comes to sexy concepts but incredible music has come out of them imo. As you said musically you get things you don't really hear in other pockets. There's just something about them imo. For exemple: this, Hello Venus' Sticky Sticky, Brave Girls' High Heels and Deepened, a lot of Stellar songs, a lot of Sistar songs, most of AOA's title tracks, a lot of EXID songs etc - they're all just absolute bangers idk. Anyways, glad this was your introduction to After School. Oh and yeah they went all out for this they even performed with the poles for some stages, impressive stuff all around. As for Block B, Nillili Mambo was one of the first kpop songs i'd heard and there's still something about the rhythm and the melodies in it

When PO finishes his military service, Block B is supposed to have a comeback- they recently all performed together at a Marine core event PO was hosting- I miss them together so much, I can't wait to see them together again. The og weirdo kids of kpop are just so great. Also, all the members, minus Taeil and Kyung have left KQ (I think), I hope they sign to KOZ.

After School was a favorite group of mine in the past. In this First Love video you may recognise Nana who went on to be an acclaimed actress and still models a dozen+ years later, and excellent soloist Raina, and ejoung who is actually a multi talented musician who can play about 6 different instruments including rock guitar! The rest also have great talents. The pole dancing addition continued what AS was known for...
The original leader, Kahi, started the group as kinda rap heavy, but evolved and added more talents that took many months to learn and perfect while performing live, including Tap Dance and Marching Drums, and of course the Orange Caramel subunit. Check out another favorite MV... Flashback❗

Weeekly just announced their official colors, and put out a fanchant guide for all their title tracks, so hopefully IST is gearing them up for a comeback. And I personally believe that Monday is the best female singer of the 4th generation. She should definitely be an absolute superstar by now...

I had not heard of Block B until one of the new Baby Monsters (Asa from Japan) mentioned it was her mom's favorite group. That's a common thread - that their homes were filled with appreciation for music and dancing, especially R&B and older school hiphop. The intro videos feature the surprisingly mature vocal talents of these girls, especially on difficult R&B and/or rap covers (Joyner Lucas, Eminem) not typical of what passes for rap in kpop.
The videos you reacted to in this set pointed to a lot of unusual and sometimes retro choices for the songs and videos compared to what prevails in kpop mainstream. I have a feeling that YG will go further with this new group in breaking away from the norm.
Given the amazing natural talents, the skills and inclinations of these girls that have been showcased, I think that's what we will be seeing in their debut as Baby Monster.

Raina who my bias of Afterschool/ orange caramel, I was told she sustain a minor injury learning to pull dance. Thats why she wasn't doing any pull dancing in the MV.

About Rolling Quartz, here some fun facts, first most RQ members are InSomnias and both group did meet a few times in Music Shows, Dreamcatcher did even saw this cover when RQ released it and even shared it on their instagrams. So who know maybe one day we will have a collab between the two groups.
You really step up your game/reactions about Rolling Quartz, because you're missing out one of the best Hard Rock girls band in Asia and that mister is considered a very major crime if you like rock music.

For Twenty Five, Twenty One, the Jaurim song came out in 2014. Jaurim is a 90's band that is still absolutely killing it (they even released a dark christmas album this year, very cool even if I didnt necessarily vibe with most of it). The drama that Bona was in helped bring the song back into popularity. The song is about her and her boyfriend who started dating at 21 and 25, respectfully. But he passed away 2 years later, right before Jaurim was about to debut. "What I thought would forever be, Twenty five, twenty one". For a lot of people it is also interpreted as a lamentation of lost youth.
There have been many beautiful covers of this song over the years, three that stand out to me are Winner's Kang Seungyoon on KOMS, Kim Sejeong, and by far the best to me, Younha on the Jaurim episode of Immortal Songs. There was not a single dry eye in the room that day.

    • @decide2think
      @decide2think ปีที่แล้ว

All good 25, 21 covers... Tho I give Kim Sejeong being the best vocalist on this song for the vocal emotion quality, variety she brings❗

I feel like you'd enjoy Block B's uh...how do I put it...more serious songs? Someone has already mentioned Toy and Don't Leave which are great. Movie's Over is my favorite from them ever. Be the Light is reeeaaally good too. They're all on opposite ends of the spectrum from what you've already reacted to.

RQs last release was Nazababara, towards the end of last year. It's a lot more.. pop rock? than most of their other releases, but I liked it. And yeah, they dropped MVs for Holler, Azalea, & Delight. And there's a bunch of videos of live performances for all the songs on the album. There's MVs for Nazababara and another song called Sing Your Heart Out (which is also a cover): th-cam.com/play/PL78AHZZ01FMaW63VdR0DXXXJ1Yn5z-xVL.html
Actually, if you read the description of RQ's Good Night cover, the director of RQs MV works at the same company where the director for DC's Good Night MV is the CEO (if I'm reading it correctly). So they talked about it a bit. Also RQs drummer, Yeongeun was Handong's drum teacher. So they do have some connections. Maybe one day we'll get a collab. (Fun fact that RQs vocalist, Jayoung, is a vocal teacher and one of her students, Suhye, is in Limelight).

Others already mentioned the fake tattoos being used to cover up bruises from pole dancing, but one of the After School/Orange Caramel members Nana is completely covereddddd in tats and is killing it as an actress/model for magazines/brands. I think it's so cool to see her body art on display in the publications!

I'm a stupid, bias, loonatic Orbit with Loona as my Ult till the day I die....I will tie this in to this video, don't worry. Jihan being a huge Orbit really made me pay more attention to Weeekly. You can't help but love Jihan, she's so adorable, and I love their songs. In my opinion, Monday may be in the top 10 vocalists in all of kpop. She deserves more attention for sure. And finally, thank you for keeping the Odd Eye Circle reveal clip in your intro. That's why I'll never skip your intros, as long as Kimberly Lippington is there.
