Here's a question though, why couldn't the doctor have gone back to a different place and saved them there I know he couldn't go back to New York but nothing was stopping Amy from saying "Go to Utah in 1940 and pick us up raggedy man."

My favourite Amelia moment has to be when she removed the torture device and saved the star whale just before the doctor was going to kill it to save the humans. The doctor is cross at first but Amy assures him she knew the star whale would stay and likens it to the doctor. "Amazing though, don’t you think? The Star whale. All that pain and misery and loneliness, and it just made it kind…I’ve seen it before: very old and very kind and the very, very last.” And it was only their second adventure together.
Ohh watching these remind me of why I love Dr Who. Why it’s one of the greatest shows there ever was or will be. Wonderful characters, larger than life villains, heroes we can both admire and relate to. And at the centre of it all The Doctor. Time’s Champion. Wisdom, child-like wonder, compassion, and ruthlessness. The contradiction of hope, the man that frightens the monsters. The light burning in the dark. This is the Doctor. These are his companions. All they said was he couldn't go to back to New York, not that he couldn't go back to somewhere else and get them. No one said they had to stay in New York.

I really felt that part when Amy saved Rory from dying with a kiss of life. My boyfriend saved my life in my eyes, I had fallen down the stairs and hit the back of my neck against something as I landed, and it left me in shock and I couldn’t breathe or move and I started to get tunnel vision. I felt like a fish out of water. He didn’t hear me but he had to come inside to grab something (luckily) and he saw me and immediately picked me up, as soon as he picked me up it was like the hands of life picking my soul back from inside the dark. I can never repay him for that, he amazes me.
In my opinion the biggest twist was the Ganger Amy situation at the end of the two parter but that also gave me a shookethness and I respect your opinion fully

Wow! What a fast and action-packed recap of Amy's story... most of it were sort-of memorable scenes - and many I had forgotten -or missed if I missed an episode or two. I know I said 'Martha Jones' when I was wondering which companion I thought was the best... but It's really a tie between Amy Pond (and Rory and River Song of course), Martha Jones and Rose Tyler... and of course Clara Oswald. I've not been so much into the more recent versions of the Doctor and the companions have not been so memorable... and I've found it more and more over-the-top and mind-boggling.
PS until the newer versions of the Doctor came along I thought my favourite Doctor was Peter Davison and 2nd Colin Baker, since I had hardly seen any with Tom Baker, being really too young to watch it in those days... but recently saw a DVD with Tom as the Doctor and think he was really good at it! I like the multi-doctor cross-over special episodes - you get the best of several of them, usually hilarious!
One thing I've always wondered...why in this instance do we see the angels moving as stone angels despite the fact nobody is looking at them and therefore they don't need to assume their self defence mechanism of turning to stone...
It does explain that they aren't paying attention so their instincts take over as they assume they're being watched but that doesn't explain the moving statues bit
