    Nice find! I’d be interested in seeing how you replace the light seals

    • @richardt1792
      @richardt1792 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Light seals are easy to replace. Go to Michaels craft store and for about a dollar you can buy a sheet of black felt with sticky stuff on the back. cut thin strips to go in the groves of the camera and a little wider strip to replace the strip along the back of the camera door. It really is a five or ten minute job and it won't turn to goo like the black foam.

  • @richardt1792
    @richardt1792 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    When that was new in the early 70's, a kit like that might cost over $600. It was the time when professional cameras were becoming more common purchases for hobby photographers. We had darkrooms and did our own developing. The camera bodies were all metal, generally brass, the lens housing was also metal. They were designed to survive the rigors of heavy, daily use at weddings or in a war zone. You would think of a camera like a mechanic and their tools.

    I bought a Yashica fxd quartz camera in one recently, it has a 50mm f2 ml lens for £20.

    Funny that TH-cam recommended me this video after doing research on the OM-1. Last month, I got very lucky and found a red camera bag with a black Olympus OM-1 (non-MD), three lenses, filters, winder, plus a Sekonic light meter. My local Savers probably didn't even open the bag because I managed to get everything for $10.99!! That is definitely my thrift find of the year so far. Thanks for the video! Been following your channel for a little bit now and I've been learning bits and pieces of photography through you and a couple other places.

  • @cdl0

    The whole bag looks like a keeper to me! About the manual: as you see it is only a small booklet, of which a large part will likely be about how to take good photographs. Contrast this with modern digital cameras where you get a 150-page paperback book with endless, tedious descriptions of all the different menu options, and not one word on actual photography.

    That's so dope man, that's such a good feeling when you find a bargain like that cant pass is it up. Had something somewhat similar happen last week, I am a Real Estate Photographer was photographic a clients home and before I left she said she had something for me. Brings out a bag actually very similar to the one shown in this video. In the bag were a Minolta Maxxum 7000, Canon T50 and my fav. one Canon AE-1. Just got a motor drive for the AE-1 put on a new camera strap and film it has become my absolute fav. camera. I tested all cameras and they all work. Inside the bag were also multiple zoom lenses, flash, filters etc etc even a cleaning kit just like the one in your bag oh and also a lot of documents, original manual guides for the cameras. So dope man, ty for your vids definitely inspired me to shoot more film. Blessings brother, be safe out there, keep on shooting, have fun.

Not personally a big fan of Olympus OM stuff, but I really like the bag. Looks like this kit has been sitting in grandpa's closet for about 25 years. Doubt the film is worth the cost of chemicals to process it at age 25+ years and no cold or frozen storage.

    I know rating cameras is hard for some people, especially if you don't have that much experience with it, but this is not 'mint' condition. It's good condition, sure. But not 'mint' at all. Good find though, especially with the 1.4!

    I subscribed a few weeks ago., totally love your content, style, everything.
    I recently bought a Canon New F-1. I’ve shot Astrophotography via a DSLR, but I wanted to ask/suggest if there is any chance you would shoot a video detailing how to shoot star trails, etc?
    Just a thought man, 🤔
    Just love this film stuff!!

    Meanwhile in Malaysia, everything costs an arm or leg. We don't have any thrift shops that sell good camera equipment unfortunately.

    What thrift store is this? I have to go there. I’m in SoCal, and you can’t find anything film related in any thrift store. PLEASE drop the location 🙏

    So jealous. I love my custom OM2n. Would like an OM1 to go with it! That one is so clean! The only 35mm SLR I ever need.

    I have that Canon FD 135mm f/2.5 S.C. breech-lock lens and it's friggin' amazing! Some of my all time favorite portraits with that lens. You could easily sell it for double the asking price at the thrift shop.

    That C clamp thing is a mount for attaching to a car window, a fence slat, a ships rail and so on... Kind of like a tripod..

    I picked up the Zuiko 35mm f2 on eBay a couple of years back with a bunch of random other stuff for about £40, and they go for hundreds now, probably my best find

    The REI pod will allow you to mount your camera to a pole to tree branch. Just velcro that thing around a branch.

    Ultrapod is a mini table tripod, you can mount it to a tree or railing with the velcro.
    Need to add on a Acra Swiss QR plate though.
    The pedco ultrapod size in the video also suggest that it more for action camera or maybe under 1kg load.
