@joeyricci3796 Great drummer but, uh little late gett`in the SEE-THRU-WONDER LUDWIG. BONHAM played an orange VISTA 6 yrs. earlier. Guess those rock drummers get 1st dibs. Both percussionists are great.
😢 I haven't yet been able to find any info on him. But I know there is a video here on TH-cam from about two years ago where he was being interviewed by a lady from the Funk Music Hall of Fame, and he did not look to be in great shape. And a lady off-camera could be heard telling him what to say.
One of the most underrated sensational bands ever. The talent and showmanship is off the charts. Great hit songs. I think they would of been bigger if they didn’t have to compete with Earth Wind and Fire, The Commodores, and other iconic bands of that era. In the 70’s the talent level in all genres of music was insane. Tons of gifted artist. So it was tuff. Unlike the ungifted garbage of today. These chumps would get smoked by the likes of Heatwave.
BILBO Burger definitly had knowledge on when to pick your spots and shine and when to fall back when your part of a collective . One of the most underated drummers since Ringo Starr !!
His timing for his drum fills were perfect. He was one of those drummers who was so gifted he could make the simplest of drum rolls sound filthy. Amazing chops and grooves.
Groove Line is my all-time favorite song. I was a tad apprehensive when finding this live version, since the studio recording of the sophisticated arrangement is sublime. But wow - they played it even better live! Even without Rod Temperton, still great.
@@rickhope2825 Ok.. ok.. was he better than David Garibaldi, Steve Ferrone or Maurice White? ..No He Wasn't - so need to 1 up my respectful condolences - "really good" was accurate enough! 🙄
Ok, singing and playing an instrument is hard enough. I couldn't imagine singing, playing and trying to keep time and match steps with 4 other dudes in front of a crowd. My mind is hurting just trying to think how they did this. Great job very talented. Thanks for posting!!!
JOHNNIE ALWAYS HAS THAT ICONIC SMILE ON HIS FACE. HIM AND KEITH ALWAYS LOOK LIKE THERE LIVING THERE BEST LIVE EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY. I LOVE THIS BAND. AND LEAVE YOUR WORRIES BEHIND. THE ENTIRE BAND HAD SO MUCH TALENT. WITH ROD WRITING ALL THE SONGS. GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS
Keith Wilder sounds the same when singing "live," as does the record. He is the one who says, "we got the boiler burning," at 1:28. Only a few artists are that good.
Always has been and always will be one of my favorite bands and every time I listen to them or watch them it leaves me with a feeling of longing to go back to those days again.
Wow, this was awesome. I've never seen this before and have never heard them perform it live. Man, for Mario Mantese, Roy Carter, and Billy Jones to be able to play their guitars, sing, and dance at the same time, it must've been a lot of work to get it down. But they made it look easy.
This is how bands used to do it back in the day. They put in the work. Sadly, bands fell off with this work ethic during the 90s. None perform on this level today. It's a shame.
The more I watch this band the more I love them they were around back in the seventies when I was growing up I love all the bigger brother has a deep voice hardcore voice and then the baby brother comes in with big smiles singing his part it's great
Except Keith Wilder, with the deeper voice, was the younger brother. Johnnie Wilder, with the falsetto, smiles, and fine dance steps, was the older brother and founder of the band.
I was at school in the 70s when Boogie Nights came out. Checkout Upfront for a history of this little known band, then Musikladen - mad routines & outfits. One of the best live.
I'm rediscovering this song for the second time, and I just can't believe how amazing it sounds!!🤯🥹. This song came out the year my older brother was born, and 3 years before I was born, but I love it just the same!!😱. And to see them perform this song live is unbelievable!!😍🤩✨🥳
Heatwave were without doubt one of the best live bands or any genre from early 1976 to the end of 1978. Look at the musicianship and dancing while singing & playing live. Their joyous and boundless energy was infectious. I love these guys. They were at their peak when tragedy struck just a few months after this performance in February 1979. I won’t elaborate I think everyone that loves Heatwave knows what happened. They are gone but their music lives on. Thanks for the memories ♥️ 🎶
I was a student at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland when this song came out. We use dance and party to the song back in the 70's. I wish I had a Time Machine and I could go back into time. I miss those days and my deceased and living college-mates.😢 A shout out to the men of Groove Phi Groove Fraternity founded on the campus of then Morgan State College in 1962.
Shortly after this Johnnie Wilder one of the lead singers in this band was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident, the group was never able to reach the same level of success after that and they disband.
it is a damn shame what is called "music" by black artists today. This white Ohio rural country boy growing up in the 70's loved this tune.. Gladys Knight and the pips, the O'Jays, the Commodores, Stevie Wonder, Al Wilson I know everything changes and nothing stay the same. Right now as I write "grove line" is going through my memory now.
WOW! Thank you for the REAL Heatwave!! Vintage LIVE! Who is that on the keyboard? It doesn't look like the great Rod temperton here! But Man they sound fantastic! The energy is unreal!

Bilbo playing those Ludwig Vistalites! Killer drummer he was! One of the very best on earth....

the guitars and the bassline are magical...
You can see their joy!
Smokin' . . . They were SO GOOD live.
RIP to the entire band.. Bilbo just died!
Sad
RIP to a great drummer
He was the last member
@@nathanrogers4018 Mario Mantese is still very much alive!
@miger1824 ok thanks
The talent here is incredible! This song is insane.. they are live.. band is choreographed.. they sound amazing.. come on!
They were bloody good. Live music. Reality.
The 12" cut of Groove Line is still a club classic
My favorite heatwave song brings back happy memories
1978 was a wonderful time to be a teenager. ❤
The Greatest Skating Record Of All Times
These guys kicked out some funky jams. They were about the best disco/funk group in the world. Great live, obviously.
I gotta say that even the audience are good dancers.
A great Rod Temperton composition
Band Tight
Vocalists absolutely on point
White crowd loving it.
Disco perfection
Jeez I’ve been going through all the hits he wrote for Michael Jackson , George benson and many others ,
Rod Temperton (RIP) was from one of the least soulful places in England - Cleethorpes Lincolnshire.
Miss those days much. Real music and real good times that somehow never ended. 1977-1978
RIP Johnnie and Keith Wilder (vocalists), Rod Temperton (keyboardist/songwriter) and Ernesto 'Bilbo' Berger (drummer)
This band is unreal !!
You Can Tell The Difference Between The Record and Live Music! Bilbo Nailed Them Grooves Down To The Ground! Daammmnnnn!
YESSSSSS
It's hard to believe he spoke lil English.
Exactly
Mario was putting a hurting on the bass. Awesome.

Aw stop they were not underrated didn't u just say they had hits ?? Why do folks use the word underrated on TH-cam so darn much
Yeah they were. Watch some documentaries. It’s stated by a lot of bands that were in that era.
The keyboard player wrote some of Michael Jackson's biggest songs
When music was MUSIC!!!! SOUL!!!!!
No doubt!
Qué bonita canción.❤❤❤
Nothing like the sound of a live drum set. Awesome!
NOTHING sounded like Ernest "Bilbo" Berger.... PERIOD! TOTALLY ONE OF A KIND DRUMMER. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hard to believe he spoke lil English.
Also you gotta include Mario on bass guitar, it must've been awesome to hear right there in person.
BILBO Burger definitly had knowledge on when to pick your spots and shine and when to fall back when your part of a collective . One of the most underated drummers since Ringo Starr !!
Yes. He is an underrated drummer and he's killing it.
Quincy Jones said he's terrible. Says he needed one of the assistant engineers to do Ringo's fills for him, because he couldn't get it.
He was a truly exceptional drummer, and QJ fucked heatwave up stealing rod.
His timing for his drum fills were perfect. He was one of those drummers who was so gifted he could make the simplest of drum rolls sound filthy. Amazing chops and grooves.
The 70's had the best music ever, Still listen to it.
Definitely more creative
Best movies too.
Old School Classic Love it time to get down and Funky RIP HeatWave band
This song kicks ass LIVE
Exactly
Heatwave were the first ones that made Whowa! Whowa! popular, before Wendy Williams
I believe that vocal riff you’re talking about came from the song “Let’s All Chant” by Michael Zager Band.
Love this song

My favorite from Heatwave!! I was in 8th grade!
This song always makes me want to drag out my platform shoes and get on the nearest dance floor.
that was PHENOMENALLY AWESOME!!!!!
The crowd is loving it.
'Revolver' had an eclectic mix of live acts and here the New Wave /Punk fans are standing at the back and not dancing -- this was how it was!
In which country was revolver made?
