- The fairy in Jabu and Volvagia are dumb. 1st try Dampe. The section between Boomerang and Gold Gauntlets (53:30-1:52:00) was particularly good. I only lost 24 seconds to my sum of best there in almost an hour. Can probably take this down to ~3:35
The big new trick in this run compared to older 100% runs is the use of Stale Reference Manipulation or SRM. It can do a lot of things, but in this run, its used to get a bunch of items in Zora's River by manipulating a function in a butterfly and changing it into a function that can give link items (starts at 14:25). This run still has source requirement though, meaning none of the items I get from that glitch actually count towards 100% completion, but having a lot of those items early just speeds things up, even if it means I essentially have to get some items twice.

He’s posted a demonstration vid of the run where he explains it: th-cam.com/video/wHZGiJD2KNk/w-d-xo.html The bombchu’s position on the wall has a value assigned to it, like everything in the game. In this case he’s manipulated the game to use that value to determine what item link is holding, and the number that represents the bombchu’s position on the wall happens to line up with a bunch of items. As the bombchu travels across the wall, the value associated with it fluctuates, thus also changing the value of the item that the game thinks Link is holding. That’s the best explanation I can manage from an outsider’s perspective, but check the link above if you’re interested!

How does the butterfly SRM work? Are you actually modifying the code within the .text section or just changing a function pointer to point elsewhere or something?

It was recently discovered, search "get any item from a butterfly zfg," and for how it works you'll have to search "Zelda Ocarina of Time SRM" it's kind of complicated

Well this new-fangled SRM warrants a new TAS. Still, OoT is still getting some wild optimizations; we've shaved 15 minutes since November 2018, and he says we can go even faster.

Can you explain why you do the ZR srm and not the everything srm in kokiri forest from your NSR run? Why is this faster?
The one in Kokiri Forest uses ACE, not just SRM, which is completely banned. But also, getting absolutely every item would be really bad, since it actually makes getting some items from source impossible, like bombs and fire arrows. There's also some things that having earlier would slow me down, like if I had iron boots early, then it would be impossible to skip the serenade cutscene in ice cavern with a death.
can someone explain what happens between zora's river segment and adult segment? why does opening and closing the menu just give him items?
