Had the same problem while seasoning my grill. Lid on the fire box wasn’t flush causing a small gap. Did exactly what you said and my problem is completely fix. Thanks for the info
Thanks for showing the cover! I was also listening closely as you were moving the cover and it does sound pretty stout. I'll be ordering one now and keep it on hand so when this aftermarket cover goes I'll have it on standby ...!
Edit: Had to run out and give that "fix" a try, It Worked! A small amount of pressure and now the firebox lid closes flush! 👍👍👍👍👍
One other thing I did, I cut small patches of the gaskets I used for the cook chamber and placed them on the hinge stoppers and on the part of the shelf that touches the legs when the shelf is collapsed. This way it is not metal hitting metal and scratching up the paint.

In my notifications, a viewer by the name of Freddy Molina asked me a question but I don't see it in the comments of the video. He asked if I could show the points on the firebox to fix the gap problem. I would have to do another entire video for that. What I hope will suffice is an explanation. At the top of the door, where the hinges are, you want to place like a pencil on both the left and right side. This will keep the firebox door from closing completely. Then with gentle pressure, you push down on the handle of the door to negate the effects of over extending the door. Keep doing this until the door sits flush again. It may happen on the first time or after a few attempts. Don't give up because this will work. Afterwards, just be more conscious of how you open the door so as not to over extend it again. I hope this helps you understand more of this process.
It’s a cover material like my boat cover. Beads hold pools and does not let wet penetrate. Shake it off and it’s fine.
The cover is LEGIT! Very durable and it's been standing tall in this GA rain we've been enduring lately. lol As for the firebox, I didn't know what the cause was when it happened to me. I simply added some thicker gasket tape and I installed a clamp/latch on the front of the firebox to lock it down. Does wonders when I cook without the charcoal basket and feed wood from the side.
Just bought me XD Grand Champ. Had the lid problem not fitting flush on fire box after I seasoned it. I did exactly what you said and my problem is completely fixed. Thanks a lot for the info.

Thanks for the cover idea! I have the same issue with the firebox and just noticed some gap on the main chamber. The gasket tape did come off the firebox and I need to replace it. I will try the pencil trick and let you know the results.
In a later video, I tried the tool that comes with the grill. That works as well.
Son of a bitc* it worked! I was sitting here noticing the gap that had happened while I’m smoking some pork chops and wondering how I was going to fix it. I had come up with trying to take the door off and then hammering the hinges a bit but saw your video and it worked. I used the grate tool that came with the XD and put a little pressure and voilà it worked. Thank you so much!

How's this smoker holding up after two years?
I have no complaints! I keep it covered while not in use. Not much problems with rust except on the fire box but it's minimal and easily fixed. I'm glad I made this purchase!
Question: my HD is arriving tomorrow and I want to make the gasket mods asap. I realize the lids have gaskets on them from the factory, but what size gaskets did you use on the fire box and smoke chamber? Thanks for the great info!
Sorry bud. I just saw this today. I just use the standard size. I surrounded the throat and screwed it on tight, then I heat siliconed the seams inside the throat. My stack also wasn't flush when I put in the screw to hold it so I heat siliconed it as well on the inside seams.
Do you get any smoke leakage from the main door?
No I don't actually. It's pretty flush.
That little hook tool that came with the smoker is for lid adjustments.
