When you travel to a foreign country and get sick it might be quite daunting to deal with the situation. So in this video I explain a couple things and give advice on what to expect and what Japanese to use at the hospital. I hope you find it useful!

I'm a university student in Japan, and I've been having this issue with my molars. Because I've only been here for 3 months, I'm still scared to go any official building, last time I went to Immigration Office, they were so nice but I'm trembling with fear and suddenly I couldn't speak in proper Japanese. It was a very traumatizing experience for me T.T. And this video is exactly what I need to prepare myself before i go to check my molars with the doctor!! It is a huge help for me!! In the states you usually go to your doctor’s office, then after you tell them your symptoms they determine the diagnosis and what medicine you need. Once you’re done with that, if you have no gone to a pharmacy to pick up medicine for the first time, then your doctor will ask you which pharmacy you’d like to go to. I’ve never heard of any American doctors suggesting which pharmacy to go to but they do tell you which ones are closssy to your adress if you’d like them to do so.
Otherwise you can tell them which one you’d like to go to, and they’ll send your prescription to that pharmacy.
But man if you don’t have insurance, seeing the doctor is like $150 or more...

In France, we take a big exam the first year to reach medical studies. It's really hard since they select a few people. Then in 3th grade we start training course. From 4th to 6th grade we begin externship (I think it's quite the same as "student doctor" in Japan). Finally, form 6th grade to ?? (depends on the specialty) we're residential student !

In france the medical system is really different
People generally have a gp in their neighbourhood for most usual diseases
After that if the sickness needs a more specialized treatement the patient will go to a specialized doctor
Hospital is, as described, only for emergencies or patient that cant be treated or diagnosed by usual means

such a helpful video!!! In Singapore, we get our medications in the clinic after consulting the doctors. We don't go to pharmacies here to get our prescriptions

In Thailand, you can get medicine at the hospitals or clinics after getting diagnosed/treated there. But there’s also pharmacies that you can get over the counter medicines.😊

I really love your videos, I'm a new subscriber though I really have to comment on the background music you use, there's been some videos with calm music on the back and those are okay but I noticed you use this same track for the videos where you are explaining about something. I appreciate the videos for listening practice so the background music is like noise when I'm trying to listen to you. That's not to say I don't listen to you but it's somehow distracting when your lovely voice is enough by itself. I understand it's your choice to keep the track in the videos but I just wanted to share my opinion.

There were a lot of dialogues in my textbooks where people were told to go to the hospital if they had a cold which always confused me, because in my country you rarely go to the hospital - like only it's an emergency or you need surgery. But now I see it's just different for different countries :) Thanks for the video !

If I remember correctly the licence you'r talking about is around the 3rd or 4th year, right? So you never have traineeships before this licence?
All clinics I went to so far had slippers so I guess all of them have slippers!😆
We're supposed to take it when we're in the 4th grade. After we get it and people know that we have medical knowledge, we can have practice in hospital.(But we're still not doctors so we just follow doctors and see what they're doing)
After we graduate from uni ( in the 6th grade) we need to take national license for a doctor！
@@Onomappu I see, so it's kinda similar to the french system but we don't have the exam during 4th grade, the real exams are at the ends of 1st and 6th. However we also have basic traineeship in 2nd and 3rd year (not as interesting/advanced as the ones in 4/5/6 though) 🤔

私は薬剤師です。アメリカに住んでいます。In America it depends on the doctor. In small towns the doctor may refer the patient to a local independent pharmacy. In big cities there are many corporate pharmacies or grocery store pharmacies and the doctor will encourage the patient to research and go wherever is convenient and cheapest. The doctor will not know the prices and often the health insurance plan may determine which pharmacy can be used. Likewise I am hesitant to refer patients to a specific doctor or clinic. Much like what you described in Japan, I will only reference doctors or clinics based on proximity but not by recommendation.

I am a registered nurse (RN) working in obstetric/gynecology in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. We do have small clinics and big hospitals. Both can be part of the public or private sector. If it's part of the private sector, there are fees to pay and it's usually expensive but you don't have to wait. If it's part of the public sector, that means it is ruled under the government and residents of Quebec benefit from the government health insurance board, which also means they pay no fees since mostly everything is covered. As for hospitals, they're all from the public sector and only 1 is from the private sector.
Usually people go to hospitals for emergencies.
Some hospitals have a drugstore within the building (which makes life easier) but some don't. In this case, if the patient asks where he/she can go, we can give some advices/infos on which drugstore to go because we aren't forbidden to say so.

In Indonesia, we have similar system for the clinic. We go to the clinic for simple disease, first we go to the receptionist, if we have already registered with that clinic, usually we just give our member card or just give our name. Then they would ask which specialist I'd like to see, we pay right away. Usually, private insurance doesn't cover doctor visit like this, the insurance only covers the cost of hospitalization. Then they would put our file inside the doctor's office. We would wait until our turn. Inside, we would tell the doctor what's wrong etc etc. Doctor would give us the receipt for the medicine.
Now, here's s the difference between Japan and Indonesia, usually privately owned clinics and hospitals would also run an on-site pharmacy, so patients don't need to go too far to get the medication.
Standalone doctor practice usually rents a space at a pharmacy, so...yeah..never have to go too far to find a pharmacy here. 😂 But, it's true that the doctor would prescribes the medicine which is sold at that pharmacy. No wonder, right..

Usually pharmacies are really close to clinics but people working in the clinic just can’t tell patients which one to go😂
So once I couldn’t find a pharmacy which is just behind the clinic then I just went to a bit far place because at that time I didn’t know why a staff there couldn’t tell me where to go. I just should’ve changed the way to ask him haha

トルコでは保険は雇い主の責任で、健康保険の代は毎月手に入れる給料から出される。だから、公立病院で特別な治療や薬以外は無料に取れるんです。電話やウェブサイトから約束してから病院に行ってお医者さんと相談して、そのあとは薬局の紙を手に入れるんです。保険があれば全部無料。保険がない場合は一回の払いで保険プールに参加して、また無料に治療を受けるのも可能。〈外国人の場合はしらないけどね＞。便利だね！
無料なんだけど、公立病院のマイナスポイントはいつも人がたくさんいたり、約束の時間は長くなったり、血液検査などの検査道具が足りなくて尽きたりすること。。。ところで、救急車呼ぶのは保険有無とわずいつも無料です。
オプションｂとしても私立病院もトルコにある。治療によって高くなることが自然なんだけど、時間がかかると危険になれる病気の場合は人が寄っていくのが多い。お金を支払うほど、まるで王子のように扱われるかもしれないな (笑)。
日本と違ってトルコではまず小さな病院に行くという規則がない。でも大病院における人混みを避けるため、十年前くらい近所医者システムが実行されたんです。インフルエンザやほかの治療がより簡単な病気のときにはその近所医者に寄ることです。
今まで行った病院またはクリニックへのちょうど横に薬局がありました

I don't think there's a specific law or anything in Chile to prevent hospitals from directing patients to a specific pharrmacy, but I also don't think anyone wouldn't just go to the one closest to their house or something haha
