@@AlanFong Thank you for ALL your tips and how to's.....I use to be on the water a couple times a week.......then I got married and built a house.........then things changed......now I'm gearing back up......thank you for the reconnection to the fish world........
Love your posts! Going to Berryessa Monday the 12th, hoping to catch some Salmon primarily and we’re planning to use your method. Do you think the lake has turned over? Any suggestions? We may try for trout also we have been very successful at lake Crowley trolling for trout. Thanks Rick
I haven't been there in a few weeks but it should be turning here soon. Graph around and see where the bait balls are. They were in 30-50 ft a few weeks ago but they should be in 15-25 if lake is turning. Bring your trout trolling gear with you just in case. Look out on main body for the birds and you'll graph the bait. Should be able to catch trout speed trolling rapalas or speedy shinners.
Great stuff, Alan. Last year lots of TH-camrs use your technique at Berryessa and they were killing them at Berryessa. Hopefully I get to try this year😊😎
I really have come to like your work. You are relatable and the kind of guy id enjoy fishing with. I, like yourself, dont fish with many people, but I do recognize people that share my passion. I have been a tube guy for many decades and multiple species. The world is just getting wise to the value of that bait. I have started producing pork baits that will be on the market soon and i would appreciate your input on some product development, if you have time. This is the softest and most fluid moving pork ever. The dye i use will not bleed. The brine will stay gin clear for years. If you have interest in the project reach out to me. Thanks
Back in the days I used lots of Uncle Josh pork behind my jigs. Caught tons of fish on them. Yes I'd be interested it seeing some. Are you going to the ISE Sport Show here in Sac on the 18th thru 21st? I'll be doing seminars in the treater on Thur n Sat and on the tank on Sat n Sun
Tried it today and fished all over the lake. All the birds were packed in the middle from the big island to well before Putah sitting in water 100 to 150 feet or more. Didn't get a bite. Could only find scattered fish or very scattered bait in shallower but never could I find fish and bait together inside of 60 feet or so. when its like this should I have fished the 100'+ or stay shallower? Thanks for the videos, looking forward to #4
Mark this tells you the lake hasn't turned over as all the bait are in over hundred feet water. The temp is probably a few degrees warmer so the bait is comfortable there. I watch the birds all the time as they know what's going on. This last Wednesday I did a video on bass fishing and I noticed the bait in 30-40 feet as I was leaving Markley cove so it might be turning?
Alan, Excellent Video! I just purchased my Okuma rod and Daiwa reel, what else can they be used for on the lake? I hear you spooning for bass, is that a possible use for my new equipment and what does spooning mean? Thank you, Steve Mitchell, Retired Colonel
Steve if I remember right the set up you got is for trout n Kokanee trolling n mooching. Spooning u need a little stiffer rod like 7' med action n 20# test line.
When doing this in the ocean you are mooching and by law you need to be using a barbless circle hook. So on the jighead it has to be a circle hook and no one makes this jighead. I've made some and it's not as effective because of the lead head jig doesn't turn as the fish pulls! But you will need 1-2oz heads and this method works good down to sixty feet or shallower!
We ran into a problem with our links not working. Trying to get the problem fixed as it helps my channel when you buy thru my links. Hopefully it will be fixed soon
This year has been weird as the lake turned over in Dec last year. Weather and cold temps has kept the lake from turning over. Hopefully it will turn this week with the hard north winds but I think it will be a short season on them kings.
Wow I used to watch you on regular tv Channel 32.6 haha glad I found this on TH-cam
Welcome back! I think you were watching Fun Fishing lol
I’m On The List!
Dr. Alan, you are the professor of fishing. Tuff day but you scored, plus those bass. Great video thanks.
Thanks 👍 It's been real tough at Berryessa as It hasn't turned over yet hopefully it will this week with the big north winds
Thanks for sharing Alan!
no problem
Thank you again for sharing this video 💯 🎣

Nice job videographer, editor and producer, Denise! 😎👌
thanks
Could you grind up the rock salt to powder form and put monster bite stimulant stuff from pro cure with it when you fillet the anchovies
James cure the bait as I instructed then after you cut up put it in container then add the scent or stimulant
excellent presentation alan ...
thanks just showing how I get it done!
Great video Alan, Thank you.
Just trying to help people catch these land lock salmon

Thanks for Sharing Alan. I think I'm going to have to give it a go! What size jig head do you put on there?
1/4 oz and I'll fish that down to fifty feet

Can I use this technique rightnow at lake oroville? I'm going out in the morning.
Yes you can if you can find the kings schooled up. Try the dam
Striper List K.

Alan when doing this in the ocean for salmon how heavy a jig head do you recommend to compensate for current?

Alan, would this bait work on a speedy shiner trolled on Folsom Lake or does it mess up the action of the lure? Thanks for the video.
NO it would ruin the action as speedy shiners get reaction bites! The bait works great when mooching!
Where can I get those darter head
Fishermans Warehouse or Tackle Warehouse I use Owner dartheads
Alan, What size are the Gitzit's? When you getting more in?
Thanks- Randy
Randy there Canyon 3 3/4" white and I have in stock at the sac store
@@AlanFong Thanks Alan. Link in your video said out of stock. Will stop by soon. Need Lowrance updated also. Thx.
I don't see where you list the equipment /bait used in this? I go to decription- more and it lists your other videos but no equipment??
We ran into a problem with our links not working. Trying to get the problem fixed as it helps my channel when you buy thru my links. Hopefully it will be fixed soon
where do you buy the tray bait
Most local bait shops sell tray bait, FW and there are three bait shops in Freeport that sell it
When is berryessa going to turn over its taking forever .
