    this album is really the more tribal and avant-garde side of Swans. The whole thing feels like we are in a middle of a weird religious creepy ritual and it’s also EXTREMELY immersive for the 2 hours duration which i absolutely love. Brilliant record!

    The second half of Apostate is among the Top 10 moments in the history of music for me. Like an absolutely demented dance celebrating the apocalypse.

    This is my favorite album of all time mainly because I love the atmosphere. It's like music for some lovecraftian ritual sacrifice.

    I think this album has one of the best flows in their discography. They slam you with these walls of sound and then hand you these gorgeous gems like Song for a Warrior and A Piece of the Sky (both of which have brought me to tears). I find this album above a lot of other Swans albums to be extremely cathartic, with some of the coolest build ups and pay offs (The Seer and Avatar, holy shit). Then the climactic cacophony of drums and Michael Gira screaming is just the perfect ending.

    I'm so glad you love this album! A Piece of the Sky is one of my favorite Swans songs ever :D
    Would really love to see your reactions to The Glowing Man and Soundtracks for the Blind at some point! Also if you're looking for more 'beautiful Swans', the album 'White Light from the Mouth of Infinity' is absolutely gorgeous gothic rock, one of my personal favorites from Swans. The highlights are 'Love Will Save You', 'Blind', and 'Why Are We Alive?'.

    fun fact: During the Father Up a Rope tour, parts of The Seer were played before it merged with I Crawled, 93. Ave Blues was played before it merged with Eden Prison, and full versions of Avatar (which he made clean a lot that it had nothing to do with the movie lol) and Apostate (early on known as the Gira dubbed Lady Gaga song) were tested out as the tour went on.
    I saw them play Apostate in Toronto in a busy intersection outdoors, and there is nothing like Gira's screams of "CUNT!" echoing throughout downtown.

    Apostate has to be one of the most perfect closing tracks I've ever heard. Absolutely incredible piece of music.

  • @el_mal_de_ojo
    @el_mal_de_ojo ปีที่แล้ว +10

    'Apostate' is probably one of the best closing pieces to any album I've ever heard. Swans was on a mad one from 2010 - 2017, the standard of quality of their releases was sensational.

    Greetings from AOTY! This is one of my personal favorites. Cool to see you liked it so much. I laughed when "A Piece of the Sky" finally kicked off and you were like "This is my favorite" because that was exactly my reaction.

    I really enjoyed this video, love the editing and your commentary. I hope you cover my favourite Swans album, The Glowing Man. I also really hope you cover my second favourite Soundtracks for the Blind, which reminds me a lot of Godspeed!, it is a true album experience, one of the best albums i’ve been through.

    I had the same reaction to A Piece of The Sky when I first heard it too! After TBK and the Seer I just fell in love with Michael Gira's ethos and pathos for artistry, I was so infatuated with him. I think from your enjoyment of Swans so far if you dig into their discography deeper you will be rewarded.

    I can't believe this man will turn 69 in just under a week. He'll be the funny sex number for an entire year, we must celebrate. Also, mad respect that he's still making music at almost 70 years of age.

    PLEASE, you need to listen to the glowing man by them (it has probably the best swans song on it) and obviously, soundtracks for the blind, a GOAT album.

    This is a kind of random one but I think you should check out In a Stranger’s Car by Barlow. It’s a shoegaze album, and it’s the only one that I’ve heard that actually sounds like a real dream: Confusing, obscured, but somewhat familiar and comforting.

    I'm looking forward to your reaction to SWANS' album "The Glowing Man" from 2016. It my personal favourite of all of their albums. I know you've heard the title track, which would have been a very interesting reaction to see that first time, but hearing it again within the context of the whole album will be a different experience in itself, and well worth the investment in your time.
    Regards and Best wishes from the south coast of England.

  • @pumpkin_the_snek

    i think after you finish listening to swans post rock material, you should check out their early 80s noise rock stuff :) not sure how much you'll like it, but I love it just as much. It'll blow your mind in a completely different way ;>
    start with 'Filth', their first album. And if you aren't completely disgusted, move forward from there :D

    • @pumpkin_the_snek
      @pumpkin_the_snek ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could honestly gush about 'Filth' for so long, despite how simple of an album it seems on the surface, it definitely isn't.

  • @reishin6
    @reishin6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Glowing Man and Soundtracks for the Blind seem like obvious albums to check out next as others pointed out.
    But I'd also like to recommend White Light from the Mouth of Infinity, it's less experimental and more post-punk but it's one of my favorite albums by them.

  • @meatsuit6922
    @meatsuit6922 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nobody agrees with me on this but imo The Seer is the best of their comeback records by far, glad you checked it out, tbk is decent and the glowing man is super overrated imo
    When you return to them, I know you're getting a lot of requests for the Glowing Man, but while one can argue that it's great, in terms of a somewhat new listener, it is really not essential in their discography in the sense that you can listen to tbk and have a very similar experience. I really recommend going backwards. Above all would suggest Soundtracks For The Blind, that and the Seer are their best imo
