Renegade Scot Was blowing around 50 mph at that camp but swirling round due to that camps location, but it was less where we were than on the ridge above us ,No footage I can remember being taken but had a winter night just up from 3 Tarns in the Lakes one night storm hit at 4 pm and was still raging at 7 am when we left in the dark ,that was gusting 65 mph ..mate took a recording Turing nite when checking his pegging ..me and Oscar dog slept through it ...so very storm worthy

Hi Ray hope you's are all well. Ive been thinking in another couple of years i go ultra light, be 60 I can't keep carrying the ridiculous weight I take.
Looked at that shelter for several years and the hyperlite version. I haven't given my wickiup 3 a fair go so I do that. I prefer the white but sometimes you can't ignore a great deal. I hope it works out for you mate. ATB.

Nice.. I picked up the duo XL last year. Perfect for bike packing. I could put my bike in the tent if I felt security measures were needed. I’m about to order an inner from Bear Paw Wilderness in 1.25 DCF floor and you can spec a 10” panel on the back and sides for additional weather protection. Those 10” panels I’d spec in 0.75 DCF. Thinking is the side panel might offer more shield from driving rain or snow. I’ll find out. Used it all last yr w/o inner and just a 7x4’ tyvek groundsheet. Cheers from usa.

Love MLD gear and that's a nice shelter, plenty room.
I'd get a bathtub groundsheet for it and for midge season possibly one of those V&P bivvies. I've got one, not used it yet though.

Hello, very nice review, thanks for sharing.
Any tips about the vent part at the top of the tent ? Can't find a good way to stuff the tent back, I'm afraid to damage that metallic wire when folding it.
How are you doing with yours ? 🙂

    • @RS.Outdoors
      @RS.Outdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for watching. I would actually just roll it down from the peak and never worried about the wire. I have stuffed it in all sorts of ways and never had issue with the wire. Sold mine as I was getting a tent made for me which fell through and regretted it ever since. Still say it was the best tent I have ever owned. However have my own pyramid design in the works ;) Atb

@@RS.Outdoors thank you very much for this answer ! I was expecting it after this video. Just rolling it from the top without folding anything before ?
When it's time to manage the wire you just fold it the size of the stuff sack 😜 ?

After much research (and raising funds to get it🤣) I’ve just bought the duomid in .75 DCF spruce green. The camo version looks to be discontinued. Anyway, thank you for your videos and expertise. I bought the silnylon version back in Jan, with the MLD solomidxl mesh inner, for bug protection. I got it for the TGO, which, got cancelled, so only used it once in anger on dartmoor.I loved how easy the duomid pitched, compared to my hexpeak, and being nearly half the weight, a great upgrade. prob going t use it on the Cambrian way, if and when this lockdown gets lifted. Thanks Jay. It is like my WickiUp3 which was a great tent in wind. The pyramid design is great along with all the tie out points the Duomid has. Reason I prefer this is although it has a good sized footprint its not as big as the WickiUp was as that was often difficult to find suitable areas to pitch it. Hope you get on the TGO in the future. Done it a few years back and loved it. Take care and Atb.

I like the manufacturers camo finish. Did you know you can DIY camo most tents using Army Camo grease paint.
Ive camoflaged my Dan Durston Xmid 1p for less than £8. Been on for a yr now with no ill effect.
Ive applied 3 basic colours, green, brown and sand by dabbing and streaking the grease paint on in thoughtful all over camo pattern. Spreading your tent first out on an old cloth sheet then over a hard surface say concrete driveway helps with the application.
Remove excess grease with an old rag, this process also helps smear the pattern softening the colors into each other. It's ready to go soon after and doesent rub off onto anything else and being grease based only adds to the waterproofing. Harmful to the tent?? Well if it's tested for your skin then unlikely to contain anything detrimental to fabric is my thinking.

Oh man.. I had the SoloMid XL a couple years ago, with a mesh inner, made my own guy system on the outside, did some fancy stuff for the inside, made my own walking stick that fit perfectly for pitching it, I loved that thing.. had to sell it for financial reasons. Hoping to buy it again some day.

Thanks Sam. Looking forward to trying it mate. However the problem with this type of setup from the USA is getting a sold or partial solid inner. The US just have all mesh inner's that are no good for the Scottish windy and cold climate. Only company in the US that seems to cater for this is Tarptent products. Atb
