Out camping with the 'Terra Nova, Laser Compact AS' tent, wild camping amongst the Scottish mountains.
The weather forecast was initially looking good but changed during the night. This did allow me to see how this tent would perform with some moderate level windy weather.
To be honest I am not sure on this tent yet and need to do a follow up video covering all my findings. There are some things about this tent I am not too sure about yet and in this video I give my initial thoughts and ramblings.
The area I visited is called, Beinn a' Ghlò which is comprised of three Munro (Mountain) summits.
The location I was heading for was a Corbett called Ben Vuirich, however ended up camping on a lower down mountain top in between called, Sron Na H-Innearach.

I've been using the Terra Nova Competition 1 coming up 5 years soon. Used for 8 multi-day hikes, I'd guess around 2 months total putting up. The bungee cords are as good now as they were when new which has surprised me. If they are using the same cord then I'd have no worries about snapping or even stretching. Seems top quality cord.

Hi Ray, I’m like you. When I see old buildings I always imagine the people living there and how wild it must have been. I was out in the Lake District on Tuesday and had my dinner in an old quarry building. Just sat there wondering what had gone on all those years ago.

Great job Ray as always 👍 I feel your pain about the Tera Nova tent corners. I just picked up a Pioneer 2 a few months back and have used it three times and has the same set up. Was finding it difficult like yourself to get the tent nice and tight because its usually uneven groud on the hills as you know. I have used the yellow guy lines on the four corners and attached line loc 3's to them and put on some dyneema cord so i can tension/adjust it now. Have only pitched it in the local woods to try it out but looks like it should do the job keeping things more tensioned when up on a hill. Have just left the inner cord the same as the now. Should hopefully get out next weekend to try the mod out 👍

Another vote for the old sheilings - I love letting my mind wander at these places, what a different life those folk lived for sure.. harsh no doubt but I sometimes myself a little jealous... maybe I was born 200 years to late lol anyways.. Interesting thoughts about the tent, I'm in the market at somepoint for a 4 season one manner so this is very much on the list, but so is the scarp 1 and I think theres a new version out and with a little patience I should be able to get it at a more 'convenient' price I should imagine. Great video as always which we both enjoyed - ATB Tom

I have a Laser Compact 1 and the bungee cords are holding up well after 50 camps+. I love the tent and it has kept me safe and dry on some wet and windy summits. Only gripe is the door zip guard which so easily gets trapped in the zip unless you open carefully or with two hands!

Nice video as usual Ray, funny how Terra Nova can never do a 100 percent job it’s taken them twenty years to get the Lazer almost perfect but not quite!

Very true and like most tents out there. Makes me wonder who actually tests the gear they make. Never seem to take advice or comments on board either even from big reviewers, but then again many kit reviews do seem to gloss over issues with the kit they look at. Atb

New scriber here … regarding the corner bunnies on the tent, it is similar on my new voyager, my 1st terra nova and surprised they don’t have the adjustable corner points with stronger cord like on a lot of tents, do you think maybe you could retro fit a length of dynema and an adjuster to give more longevity and adjustment. Some things on these terra nova tents just seem cheap and a quick and easy option whilst others are great, not sure the designers think it through in actual use…
