In this video we take a quick look into the projection mount (in this case, the Nanlite PJ-FZ60) and a few extremely useful and practical ways it can be used to light when you're in tight, awkward spaces - or to create effects that would otherwise be difficult to achieve.
    Camera:
    Panasonic LUMIX S5
    Samsung Note 8 (BTS)
    Lenses:
    Samyang 50mm t/1.5 VDSLR

I forgot to flip that BTS photo around for the first setup - apologies if it comes across as confusing! ;)
I honestly hadn't put too much thought into the projection/spot mount, as I'd rarely used a tool like this - but it's such a useful tool, especially for budget setups where you don't have much room to place lights!

Thats because teachers today are dated. And when it comes to lighting, they dont know anything except basic stage lighting principles lol I dropped out of my photo program and video students who stayed always said I taught them more lighting in a one class than an entire year of their program did. They do nothing with modern creative lighting. You’re lucky if they even have gels or “cookie cutters” lol But thats it. They only teach the studio standards, not impromptu lighting intuitiveness.

I recently got a old small slide projector for 20 bucks that I've been using kind of like this. It's basically a 500 watt bulb with a series of lenses that focus the light. A couple of issues with this method is
1.There is no way to control the brightness.
    2. It is only one color temperature.
    3. It's very bulky and has to be mounted to something sturdy.
    4. It uses a ton of electricity and has a pretty loud fan and gets dangerously hot.
    5. It takes a while to get it set up.
But for just 20 bucks I've been having a lot of fun with it. The lens can be removed to throw a ton of light at something and I'm going to make a soft box for it. I'll probably use it as a permanent mounted light in my studio.

Again a creative approach to finding solutions to shoot in tight spaces. Not enough room for lights, stands and negative fill is probably one mayor issue for every indie shooter. I'm wondering that you never checked out flexibel Led as they can also be a life safer when you need soft light in a tight space. You could get very similar results with them and they're affordable. I recommend checking out the falcon eyes 18. They honestly won't last forever but they're cheap, very good color rendering and easily powered by V Mount. Would be very interesting to see this in your hands ;)
Thank you and keep on rockin'!

    • @RobEllisCinematographer
      @RobEllisCinematographer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

With great difficulty at first, but now I've done it a few times it's a little easier! For focus, the classic focusing on an object where I'm going to sit - then when I'm sat there, using a wireless transmitter + phone/monitor to make sure I am, in fact, in focus (aswell as checking composition). In terms of my actual performance I'm usually just happy with my first take, but I do a couple just to make sure. I always do the same moody look since I'm not actually an actor in the slightest - since I've done it a fair few times now I can usually tell what it's gonna look like on camera without seeing exactly how I look and what I'm doing and generally it works well for these videos haha! The lighting I check with the wireless transmission and monitor also so I don't actually have to record anything til it's looking how I want it :)

As for the video, if you want to make it you know that of course we are going to watch it, and I think that as it would be a kinda of personal video, I think a shorter one would be very good, you don't need to stretch it just to fit TH-cam's desires. I think it is a good idea, very interesting.
