I'd say instant turn rate is better. if the raptor ever gets to a merge that instant turn rate assures it only has to turn once to get a fox 2 off and finish the fight. It'd be much more difficult to pull a plane into a sustained low speed rate fight.
They didn't build enough of them. Not sure the 35 is better. Then again you only need stealth for the first one's into the battlefield. The 15's and 16's are still incredible adversaries especially over ground we control.

Craziest thing about the F 22… The pilots are not allowed to show the full capability of the aircraft in any air show or even a joint military operation with other countries while friendly dog fighting. Hence the pilots actually have to debrief train after the so-called joint friendly dogfights as to not fly stupid like they were against other pilots in other countries because the military does not want them getting used to flying that particular way. There’s a video of a French rafale shooting down a F 22. Everybody was shocked and couldn’t believe a year older generation fighter took out our F 22. Well now you know the pilot wasn’t allowed to declassified the maneuverability. There’s a reason we don’t export this particular jet to any country or why you will see all over TH-cam how Russia’s fighters are more superior it’s because that’s what the military needs everyone to believe the f-22 is literally insane. The first time I saw an F-22 was on a poster in my middle school's rocket hobby club. Needless to say it was love at first sight. A month or two later Ace Combat 4 released and my cousin let me borrow his copy. I played that game every day after school for the next 6 months. I have very fond memories of that game and this plane.

A cobra is a very useful maneuver for getting shot down, assuming that's your goal. And Western aircraft have been shooting down Russian aircraft for decades, so maybe that is the goal. It's a faster and more efficient that way.

God, flying one has to be a crazy life experience. Its like 9k to ride in a fighter jet for a hour and I want to sooo dam bad. Not a 22 but still the overall experience.
I think with a couple relatively minor improvements to the thrust vectoring and some modifications to the engine to improve performance at high speeds and if they haven't already install that jamming tech they just finished adding to the F 35 and this jet could be the most formidable fighter in the sky.
The F-35 isn't an air superiority fighter. It does a little bit of everything with a focus on BVR A2G engagements. It can certainly engage air targets and get stuck in with some dogfights if something goes horribly wrong. It's a jack of all trades and it's really good at that. The F-22 is an air superiority fighter built specifically to kill other planes, it has no A2G capability beyond its 20mm cannon which can shoot continuously for a grand total of 4.8 seconds. It was born to mulch planes with being detected and it does that exceptionally well. Despite being developed in the 90's it still has many advantages over the F-35 when it comes to A2A engagements. No other plane in the world comes close to the sheer psychotic operational power of the F-22. Certainly nothing our enemies have.

Both aircraft are similarly stealthy (F-22 has a stealthier shape but F-35 makes up for it with its fibermat skin and improved RAM coatings) but the F-35 has a more advanced radar and EW suite, it has DAS and EOTS, it can network with all other assets in the AO (F-22 can only network with other F-22's at this point), and it has better countermeasures so it would have the advantage in BVR. The F-22 is of course kinematically superior so it would have the advantage in a dogfight, except that the F-35 pilot has an HMD visor giving her 360 degree field of vision and allowing her to target anything she's looking at. Armed with HOBS missiles, the F-35 can effectively shoot down an aircraft on it's 6 o'clock like that. The F-22 can become the top dog again if it gets the necessary upgrades, but this is how things stand for now
The YF-23 is actually more maneuverable than the F-22 in high energy sustained turn rates because pf the YF-23s much lower wing loading which comes from its large wings and v tail.
